Dunno whether its good luck, or excellent car testing by Bob and Ian, but I don't think I've ever driven the GT40 and felt it to be so at home on a track.  Thought the track would be a little small for the GT40.  But no, none of the usual understeery tendencies, it's just foot to the floor with the best balance I've ever experienced in this car.  Not even close to losing it ever, and sub 20s easy.  Pure joy.  :jumpjoy:

I remember going to the Coys Festival at Silverstone in 97, I think, the 50th Ferrari anniversay, and in one race there were 8 of the 25-30 250 GTOs ever made.  I wonder if it's gonna be like that at Goodwood, a dozen or more of the few GT40s ever made.  ;D

I'm sorry Sub 20s easy? If that's the case the GT40 is heavily outclassing it's competiton in this one. The lap records are 1:17s in GTC 75 cars - I have to work my TVR's ass off to get 1:23s - and I'm keeping my foot down 95% of the track. I sure hope you were just making an over excited estimate on that

A quick look at GTL rank says that Steve is prolly going very, very well in the GT40   :-* When I tested my times were much of a muchness in GT40 (which I'm not great in I'll admit) and Cobra with the TVR lagging a little behind. There's no doubt the GT has a slight edge but I aim to push some of them very hard in my Cobra :)

Unfortunately, its very tricky to put the TVR in a tight fight with the other GTC's. I've tried bleeding hard to find the right track for it as I really enjoy it and hope others will next week  :)

I ran the GT40 and i was getting similar times that I was in the TVR - so it didn't seem to me that hte GT40 had any giant advantage at the time

It depends on whether you can get the setup to work, I think.  If you end up with a bit of understeer in the GT40 you lose loads of time, have to lift in one or two places.  I just found a setup that worked very well, divide the track up into several sections and each one is foot to the floor no lift required.  In that case the greater top speed of the GT40 gives a bit of time over the TVR.  I'm running the longest gears, hitting the rev limiter too much in mid gears. Of course, knowing the guys we have at SRouk, there will be several people quicker than me come Thursday.  ;D

On a fast track the GT40 can compete with most 76 cars, I've stayed with all but the quickest 76 cars on public servers at Monza GP for example, and Goodwood is fast too.

Had a quick blat with my Cobra vs Phil's GT40 and we were pretty evenly matched. A good Cobra driver, not me yet  ;), should be dipping into 19's but it certainly isn't easy. Boy its great fun running the Cobra alongside the GT, the sound ;D

I am left utterly speechless.  Lived in this house for 2 1/2 years, never an electrical gremlin, and then tonight there is a momentary surge, and PC shuts down while I'm in the lead.  The only blip in years occurs during the 40 minutes that matter.

Never won a race at SRouk before, and finally a good chance, got pole, messed up the start dropped to 4th, got back in the lead after a lap, had contact lapping Tibernius and fell to 3rd, and got back in the lead again and then BANG, game over.

I think I'm doing very well not to be plastering expletives all over the place.  Smilies cannot convey my mood. The power didn't even go down, just a fraction of a second's darkness and then straight back up.

Guess what....yet another race ruined for me on the first lap.

Qualy was ok ish....3 tenths down but I couldn't seem to get a decent lap together. Resonably happy with 7th though. Got a resonable start but took it very easy into turn 1 as it seemed from where I was that everybody had to be the first round it...4 abreast and not much of a view other than sparks and bits of flying bodywork. :nono:

Settled in around 9th I think only to get a hefty tap on my rear from somebody trying to overtake me on the entry to the chicane  ???...that spun me round the wrong way onto the grass and I rejoined second to last. Red mist was showing though and I was overdriving and ended up spinning a couple of times so just quit.

It may be the end of the season, but I am feeling very grumpy, so please dont be too suprised if there are some reports entered for this one after I have seen the replay.

Grats survivors and podiums.

I was happy with my quail being first non GT40/Cobra  :)
But I knew my setup was crap and was about to get worse with addition of 30 laps of fuel. To many mistakes and in the wrong car to get a good result…I was finally bumped off the track by guess what – yep you guess it! a GT40   ;)

Sorry to hear about Steve’s electrical issues.

Grats to podium in advance – (my fingers crossed for Baracus the other Daytona driver)

Sorry Psuedo, That must have been me. I didn't try to overtake you but misjudged the space in that corner.
So , I guess that is a penalty for me :'(

Gutted for you Steve (prolly the class of the field :'() and PR who had gremlins for the 2nd night on the trot I think.

It ain't gonna help you gents none, but thats the best/most intense race of the season for me. Brilliant stuff battling the very well driven GT's of Ade, Geoffers and Bernie especially. Felt like I was blocking on back straight with those little flicks, but great pass there, twice ;D, Bernie. Took all my skill to avoid incidents and your chaps were more than my equal in that beast.

Gotta say sorry to Sandor but I was suffering from a spot of GT40 fever when I came up to lap you. Flashing my lights was rude, even though I had to get past quickly being hounded, so I apologise.

Congrats to Blunder the new Jr ;). Be a shame not to use the GT40 again, even watching/hearing them was ace.

Was expecting to fight the TVR alot more, but it was incredibly tame and quite enjoyable to drive.

The ultimate thing that killed me today was my broken throttle pedal - only getting 95% full throttle when I'm lucky really showed on the straights as GT40s were blowing past me (sorry if I couldn't move out of your way quick enough :( )

I was losing so much blood to my brain on the start because of how I was entering the 1st corner. I had a great start and the Torque of that little TVR blew me up into around 12-10th area into T1, however I was going into T1 wedged in between a Cobra, and Bara's Daytona - I was expecting the worst seeing the pack in front of me dangle around, being rubbed between two monsters, and the unknowing dread of being clipped in the rear end. So as I was gliding around T1 with all that Gas I found the TVR wanted to pretend to be an Elan and I came out battling Bara for 11th or 10th. Was holding well for 3 or 4 laps then I guffed it into the grass and lost some places down to 20th. Faught my way back and stayed extremley consistent for the TVR with only 2 more minor mishaps and finished in 13th i think. Had not so much "Battles" but "who could go the longest without making a mistake"s with Mark Jonzo who looked like he was having a hard time in his nicely painted GT40, and Sandor who was putting some pressure on my backend for quite a few off and on laps.

That race seemed to go by super fast, and the TVR tyres were quite stellar up untill the last 2, then I started Tokyo Drifting a couple turns. Was releived to see the end of the race, and I joined a pretty face in the stands as I jumped the fence and caught on fire.

Good Race all, it will be exciting now to see podiums that we're in the AR (After Ruskus) era of GTL :D

Having driven that Cobra I can see that Ruskus was right...They're bloody brilliant! ;D

I think there was some contact between me and a Daytona (one of the Poodles) on Lap 1, sorry about that. :-[

Things started to get interesting around lap 20 when my tires went. Oversteer constantly. :o
Definitely worth it though, and I'll be driving the Cobra again next chance I get. ;D

Unbelievable bad luck Steve, you were really motoring.

Had a great race with SBG holding me off in the Cobra - great stuff mate.
Seemed like everytime I overtook you I'd run off into the gravel on the very next lap - one of the most frustrating and at the same time enjoyable races i've had for a long time.

In my dreams buddy!?
Obviously I am over the moon to win but more because of others wows!
Drove consistently until 2nd and 3rd caught me up and I lost my head and went straight on at the first corner, all my own fault!
Luckily rejoined quite quickly with no damage so continued!
Sorry to hear about Steve, he was way faster than me as was Mark ! I think Mark had a small incident while leading giving me a 5 second lead with 5 laps to go!?
Tyres were going off but got over the line by about a car length!
Again, Mark should have had that also he was also way quicker than me!

Great racing all!

M.

Make mine a large one!  ;D

Mr Drake, you had a tough race.

But you had the good manners to allow me back past you after our "bump". I just wanted to say a thank you and that others should take a good hard look at their race "manners".
Because not everyone would have done that and I believe it's a point that's been overlooked here for too long.
If you cause another driver to lose a place you should slow and allow them to re-take the place they lost.
Rant over.

Mr_Oily "the papers want to know who's shirt's you wear". Great race guy, keep it up. Respect.

Organisers. Goodwood should be compulsory ever season. Never been a bad race here no matter what the car choice. And now we ought to have a GT40 spec race, eh?

You may have a point there Tony. Waiting after an incident should be the norm and, as an apology, it goes a long way. There were clearly some incidents last night and we hope some reports follow. We do not want to issue penalties but the main point of race moderation, for me, is to educate and highlight were some are going wrong so they can rectify their driving. Remember, you can make it clear that you don't want any penalties to be issued as we appreciate the present "club" like atmosphere in GTL :)

Having said that, I saw a big improvement in quali etiquette last night. Everyone was doing their best for others on their fast lap, as it should be :)

Really enjoyed Goodwood in the GT40. After several poor performances recently I was determined to keep the car on track last night & not try too hard. It paid dividends & I was well pleased with 4th.

Had some good racing, particularly with Bernie & Ginsters & but for a couple of instances of the game freezing for 2 or 3 seconds I might have been able to challenge for Ginster's third podium spot.

Congrats to Martin, Mark & Ginsters & bad luck to Steve, definitely the fastest here.

More commiserations for Steve here too, unlucky mate, you should have won last night. Will have to put it down to a 'mechanical failure'...GT40's arent the most reliable in the world  ;)

A blown opportunity for a top 5 finish for me too. Had great pace and after a reasonably good start off the line was hoping for a top race long fight but i totally misjudged how bad the GT40 was at stopping on cold tyres and brakes and basically blew my race on lap 2 by outbraking myself twice and running off into the grass/gravel and then compounding my misery by clipping the oil drums at the chicane and spinning myself around  :(...dropped from 7th? to 17th  :'(
What a disastrous start. Then spent half the race playing catch up and losing way too much time getting caught behind some drivers including Mr Drakes 20ft wide GT40 on more than one occasion :whistling:
It took until about lap 23 and running 10th before i had a nice clear track to put the hammer down and i got the gap down to 9th place from 14 secs to 4? before the race ended. But 10th is where i finished.
GT40 is a fantastic car, the track is excellent for racing and the grid looked awesome with the mixture of cars smoking away.  8)
Think i finished the race with 5th fastest race lap but too many errors early on cost me a decent finish.
Congrats to pody guys  8)

ps struggled with some bad warping issues whenever anyone left the race again last night. My home connection is hardly great at the moment but there seems something a-miss with the srouk server lately. Far too many discos and it seems to get very unstable whenever anyone leaves the game. I saw pings on certian drivers go from 91 to 1525 ! like a pulse sometimes. Someone else reported that too during qually.

I noticed that the Lap Board was never showing the time gap for cars.

It would either show one or the other, or none

Only on 3 laps did the lap board update correctly :(

I think I got spun out 2 or 3 times in the first half of the race. Also tapped a gt 40 on the acceleration (Tony?), luckily he didn't seem to have lost too much time. I waited, as that is how we usually do it in GPL circles too, which is where I'm coming from. I got as far up as 7th before the first incident, though that was perhaps a bit too high for my pace, as I had a few cars hot on my heels in those early laps. Eventually finishing in 11th is perhaps about right. I don't have enough time lately to do some proper practice for these races, so I'm usually on the brink of top 10.
