Title: Re: UKGPL Season 15 Masters - Lime Rock (mountain) - Jul 6 Post by: EvilClive on July 07, 2008, 11:12:08 AM +0100 Grats to John Roberts for a steady drive that deservedly got him maximum points.
Masters managed to scrape together a grid of 5 for this race. It was 4 until Hristo made a late entry into qually to take his customary pole slot :-\. What a monster of a circuit!!! That extra hilly section makes it totally different from the "old" Slime Crock and my setup from last season was useless( or was it me?). For a couple of laps I followed Ken and Kruger who were having a close quarters dice which looked like it might end in tears and Hristo who was slowly edging away in front. The plan was to keep the two K's in sight and hope to pass Ken when he put his Lotus into the pits for its annual service later in the race, with John in his Brab hopefully a safe distance behind....good plan I thought ;) Then I crested the mountain to a sea of waved yellow flags and a large red fruit draped in the trees on the outside of that big bend!! Prib also showed that Ken was behind me as well but his camouflage colours had hidden him from my view as I passed. So from 5 to 3 runners and still 20 odd laps to go. Hristo made an error somewhere and was suddenly back in sight, but still able to pull away, and John was holding station and visible in my mirrors at various points on the circuit. I think Hristo must have blown a gasket or something because I came upon him on the s/f straight travelling rather slowly and thought at first he was waiting for someone to play with, but Prib showed that John had also passed him and he soon Disco'd. from 5 to 2 snd still 20 laps to go. I have to admit that I found it difficult to concentrate and my mind was wandering into fantasy land, thinking about where this result would put me in the table and what chassis I would need for the next round. So the inevitable happened and I lost the tail going into T1 and John who had kept the gap at about 3 secs was past, whilst I pirouetted gracefully on the grass. By the time I recovered he was about 5 secs down the road!!! :-\ :-\ and I had gone from 1st to last place!!! ( out of 2 runners). I set about reeling John in, but he proved particularly stubborn and refused to come closer until I began to push quite hard!! Finally put in a couple of 1:41 sec laps and I could see John getting closer. Then I blew it and put a rear wheel on the grass coming out of the esses and what should have been a spin and "egg on face" was compounded by my inability to lift my right foot from the go pedal ...and we careered across the track ...up the side of a mountain....two barrel rolls.....a half twist and pike...upside down.... and DEAD. :'( Pau next...what could be worse??????? :-\ Title: Re: UKGPL Season 15 Masters - Lime Rock (mountain) - Jul 6 Post by: Steven Foster on July 07, 2008, 05:00:48 PM +0100 3 drivers?

Well done mate, looks like PRO rules worked in your favour this time (unlike Season 13 Masters where you always seemed to have the bad luck!!)

My motor blew coming down the hill and I started to coast quite quickly. Then just ahead I saw Kruger drift off track and on to the grass. I was distracted by watching this and had that "fixed vision" thing and just drifted off behind him. When he hit the trees and bounced back I slammed in to him. I don't know whether he would have survived the accident (I have my doubts as it was a hard impact anyway) but whatever I certainly finished him off!! :)
Title: Re: UKGPL Season 15 Masters - Lime Rock (mountain) - Jul 6 Post by: Kruger Enge on July 08, 2008, 08:02:55 AM +0100 I had a situation which threw me off balance and cause me to lose it at full speed there so I doubt I'd have survived it.
First the home phone rang like mad; then both of my mobiles started ringing one after the other and since my girlfriend was out and she was returning home, I thought that something may have happened and she coldn't get in the house (I have that inside only lock thing) so I merely wanted to pick up the phone and see who the hell it was - that was enough to lose it. Anyway, thanks for euthenazing me Ken :) Pau?!? sorry gents, just can't find motivation or will to learn and practice what I believe is a very tough track so I'll skip that one. I remember Ken and Michiel destroying all in a BREASTS race some time ago, we just couldn't keep up with their laptimes, but it was a nice race anyway.
I quite liked this Lime Rock version, even though joining late and learning it with 18 mins to go or so was rather desperate. My normal Lime Rock track setup seemed to work well and with adjustments only to gear ratios managed to put me on pole. Kruger almost passed me around the outside at T1; after that I just tried to get into a rythm and not do anything radical, which allowed all others to keep close behind and big in mirrors. I thought as long as I can get the exits to the long straights right, it would be ok. Then Kruger and Ken retired and from my position it looked like a collision, glad it wasn't, but it was a shame as it could've been a 3 way battle for the win. I then had a comfortable lead to Clive but lost it at T2 and that dropped the gap to 2 seconds or something. Then my engine smoked (at least in my mirrors, not sure why you couldn't see smoke, Clive) and when I retired it was saying Piston as reason. Very rare failure that one, at least in my experience. :P Grats to JR and see you all at the next one! Yes, come on boys, the Masters is dieing, it wont be worth running if no one turns up. Yes I remember the BREASTS race, very enjoyable, but don't forget to tell everyone I was in a Lotus and Michiel was in his beloved BRM. I only won because he melted his tyres!! Title: Re: UKGPL Season 15 Masters - Lime Rock (mountain) - Jul 6 Post by: Steven Foster on July 08, 2008, 08:09:04 PM +0100 ...which explode if you treat them like that in iRacing!
