Should be a good one this.

Martin, aren't you a bit of a specialist on this track? Seem to remember you've done quite well here previously  ???

A coach tour of northern England.... why?
I suppose it's true you don't get proper pies and peas down south. I'll wave as you go past Rochdale on the M62
 :D

I guess by Martin you don't mean me, you mean M Blunder.
I've never driven here before in GTL, might have done some laps in GPL years ago.
So far I can hit 21s with some effort and monstering the odd kerb in the Beemer
Capri is a few tenths slower for me, and the tanga (lightweight panty) is a couple
of seconds slower with me driving it.

Is MUCH faster track than I expected! it's more like a Cambell's Le Mans.

Damn, the wheezy Panty is great fun around here but I really doubt I can be on the pace with it  :-\ Its two seconds slower than the Brown Cwapri in my hands. Think my driver of the day will go to anyone wheeling the Panty around here on Thursday, gawd bless you  :)

I'll try and make it for some practice. I've not turned a single lap at the track yet for a variety of reasons (Spore coming out, real life issues, wheel getting more and more buggered and I can't afford to replace it) so I'll probably be hopeless, but I thought that at Thruxton and had a brilliant race.

Hoping to jump on at some point mid eve so hope to see you there, but definitely no Panty for me  :winkiss:

I'm getting some problems with disconnects unfortunately, started when I chose the Capri...at the same point approaching the last chicane on the first lap I get connection lost. Seems to be happening with the Beemer now too so not been able to practice.

No idea why but i've seen it before - may have to reinstall AGAIN but sure it'll be cool for the race.

My one and only one off very very lucky, everybody else messed up and fell off the track win last season, yes!
Will be all down hill from there!  ;D

Count me for tonights practice!  ;)

I'm finally going to get to spin some laps here at Goodwood now.
Baby Legzy is sleeping :o (she'll be awake when we try to sleep later), Mummy Legzy is gassing on the phone to family & negotiations went well to get on-line  8)

See some of you shortly.

p.s. Thanks teammate Blunder for the BMW setups, very much appreciated this week!

Ooh, I needed that. Cheers chaps. Managed a pretty pedestrian (compared to others) 1:23 a few times. So I guess that'll secure me a place on the back row of the grid  ;D (if I get my permission slip signed by the boss & new jnr boss)

Just a quick one chaps - got caught out by a Windows update last night just to warn ya.

Also, the new Beemer sounds are incredible, a bit like the E20 if you've heard those - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=8613

Man that sucks :(.

Was happy with a 1:18 in qually and had a good start. I then run wide because I was looking in my mirrors too much :P. Followed by a spin at the next corner ;D.

Bara was uncatchable in his BMW so I kinda lost concentration and spin at the double right handers at the end of the lap. Gravel traps didn't to Jack beep so I went face first into the barrier. Engine dead :(.

I quite liked the Pantera, shame it wasn't really up to the BMW, and there were too many BMW's :P. Just like real life ;D

Apologies for anyone I got in the way of while driving like a complete idiot who had never held a wheel before. Really disappointed in myself. >:( Last week was my best ever race. This week was the worst I've ever driven I think. That was pathetic.

Hope everyone else had a better race than me. And I hope my teammates had a better race than everyone else. ;D

was fun for a while.

Had a power cut (very brief) here half way through qually so started from the back..Start seemed ok...even though somebody didn't get away for some reason, I didn't see any of the usual mayhem due to it.

did 20 ish laps....but not had any time to praccy this one so just enjoyed the short run out.

Grats winner and podium.

PS....For those that haven't yet read the rules here at srou......

NO CHAT DURING PRACTICE AND RACE

is one of them......this includes sorry, hi, what time is it  :D etc.....at the end of the day, the rule is there to make it fair for everyone....please don't disrupt others races and qually. Thank you.

Had a blasting start which got me to 9th spot and could well hold this place. After misfortune for some others drivers I even drove 5th for a while  ;D Way above my level.
After a lap of 15 I lost concentration for a sec and I went wide against the wall .
I only lost one place but the beemer lost a bit of its stability and I couldn't get the same times anymore.
So just went off the throttle a bit earlier and tried to bring it home as quick as possible.
Resulted in an 8th spot ........   I'm so proud of myself  :notworthy:

See you all next week.

Agreed  :) Fair play to all those free thinkers/idiots that dared to be different. Great pace in the Panty from JR/Assas (do get that fixed and I presume thats what prevented PR joining us tonight as well  :'().

Chuffed to hustle the Cwapri into mid pack for start. That went smoothly but there then followed a few laps when I had to pick my way through bits of bimmer everywhere (at least they had the courtesy to crash into each other) Then had a nice fight with Tibs and Sandor. Unlucky there Sandor, I tried to give you as much room as possible there and I think you just ran outta tarmac. Real shame that didn't continue. After that got passed by Dan 3/4 times and had much fun holding him up for almost a lap. All very good really :)

Backmarkers were very helpful  :) Congrats to podium and my fellow cwapri heroes  ;)

I'm afraid too  :D Never drove that line into the corner and just had too much speed to do it right......

Ah well, we had fun for some time.

Interesting race. Sorry for whimping out on the Pantera - I tried it for a bit before the race but the setup I usually use for the fast one was dreadful and it was going to be no fun. I should have made some time to get a setup sorted but didn't. Thinking I really need to get some points on the board I took the safe option ;)

Really good driving from backmarkers - very courteous as it's so hard to pass safely with thefast seeping bends of Goodwood.
@ Geoffers: what happened when I came to lap you? When I got near you kind of lagged and next thing I saw you on the grass... sorry if that was anything that I did but it was rather odd how your car stuttered for that 1 second :(

Made a poor-ish start but made up one place, I changed up to 2nd way to early though and JR blasted through for the lead. Had a good few laps with Oily in tow but I couldn't hear my engine over the Pantera (hence the early change at the start) so was looking at the rev counter all the time which was... interesting!

Going into the left kink we both ran wide letting Oily through, then Jeff clipped a kerb in the next right and spun so I was chasing down Oily but not making any inroads. Few laps later he went off same place as JR and I did earlier and I had just enough momentum to outbrake into the right hander.

Tried to then just smooth it out and make sure I didn't go off. Didn't work though, I came off 1 more time but somehow the gap stayed around 9 seconds... very evenly matched with Oily all the way - great stuff mate! Pulled out a bit more of a gap towards the end as I got into a nice rhythm. I really needed that win - all good!! :D

Well that was up and down ,back and forward, side to side and all over the place, had to much wheel spin at the start and Jeff and Bara went through.  Then went off at the nasty left hander and fell down to about 12th , started driving a bit crazy and went off again .   Sbg was driving with so much flare i had to keep dropping back behind him to watch him throwing the capri around  :D   Finally got passed him for the 4th time and caught Phil and got third.

Grats to Bara on the win and the steady connection  and to oily on a well earned 2nd..last time i give you a set up. :P

cheers

No nothing you did Bara, I got a bit of lag just at that moment & before I knew it I was on the grass. Had slow fps for about half a lap afterwards then all well again!

Really dissappointing result as I had really got to grips with this car/track combo. Running 4th for the first couple of laps trying not to overdrive & keep it smooth, then >:(  just touched the grass accelerating out of St Mary's & spun. Came to a halt in the middle of the track & Spanner couldn't avoid me & hit my right front corner. We both got going again but the handling had gone & I struggled with understeer after that which got worse & worse. After one or two more mowing sessions I gradually dropped down the field to 13th at the end.

Congrats to Bara, Mr Oily & Dan.

Cya all in Japan next week .

Geoffers

Well, I guess allowing different cars for (almost) every race (the opposite of GTR2) encourages taking the right car for the right track, hence the number of BMWs, right?  ;)

No car would help me yesterday as I didn't have enough time to prepare and got to know the track during practice. The start had again had some Sleeping Beauties and I bumped into the car before me - sorry, I don't know who it was, though I think he in turn had to wait for the car before him to get going. Was a bit disapointed to be taken out and the driver didn't even flinch, just drove on.  :-\  Degrades GTL for me, it seems a bit more laks than GTR2 and I might go play some BF2 on Thursdays.  :-\  Or maybe it was just the weather.  ;)

I turn off all non essential AV stuff. I use Norton, which I have heard from other sources is a bit intrusive for online gaming. I will probably change when my subscription runs out. I have tried rrunning with AV totally turned off & it doesn't seem to make any difference, I still get occasional lag problems. I'm sure it is AV related but I can't seem to find a way of stopping it.

The race that could have been...
Won here last season and really seemed to have clicked with the circuit but was dissappointed to be only 11th on the grid :(

Made a great start and was way ahead of the cars following, unfortunately I came round the first lefthander and the backend slowly came round on me :P
Couldn't hold it and was left in the middle of the track. By the time I had engaged my brain.... a very slow process! ;D I got T boned by someone else.
Really sorry to whoever it was? hope it didn't spoil your race!?

Rejoined in last place, and made it back up to 7th in the end!
Fantastic close battle with I think it was Ade, Syd, and someone else? 4 of us bumper to bumper for ages, really good fun! :)

Where do these aliens get 1.18's from? it's a mistery!?

Grats all, respect to the podium!

M.

Good race that, bit of a change to the usual wing mirror swapping but thanks to a sweet setup from Mr. Minton (sorry dude lol), others choosing trickier cars and some offs I somehow managed to grab second so well chuffed.

Off the start I was victim to Jeff's Top Gun skills and a Pantera fly-by, leaving me with no choice but to trundle along behind the leading pair and snap at their heels occasionally while they snapped at each others. Luckily they did some synchronised understeering at St Marys, I managed to avoid the sympathy off and grabbed the lead.

Unfortunately I didn't learn the lesson properly and did the same a few laps later rejoining right alongside Bara just in time for the double right. Thought I'd lost the position straight away but off the grass I seemed to have some momentum into the braking zone so put up a gesture of a fight. It wasn't enough and Bara snatched it>. Can't remember what happened next but I found myself 10 or so secs behind him with 15 laps to go and a decent buffer behind me.

Had a good go at catching Bara through the traffic but didn't quite have the legs and with a cut track in the bank was beginning to think I'd rather some points than a stop/go or bent beemer. Last 2-3 laps took it veeeeery easy at St Marys towards the end and through the final chicane (convinced all race that fat rear arch was going to clip it!).

Not sure if it's because there' wasn't much speed differential other than on the brakes or if I just lost my bottle a bit but I found lapping was tricky at times despite everyone driving well. The pressure just to bring it home in one piece made it fun for me but the replay won't be winning any awards.

Championship's hotting up and despite some poor races on my part I'm loving these national tracks with the enduros thrown in to spice it up a little.

Cheers all/ organising people - off to Suzuka we go  ;D

my car would go better if half way in you don't get cramp in your thottle foot and have to slow/stop but hey that's racing  >:(
the other thing is to remember not to let the people you are racing with by thinking they are lapping 17->20th  :stupid:

I seem to have the curse of being behind the guy who is behind the non starter
Dunno what Spanner saw, but I didn't see Assasino at all. Just saw Spanner make
what appeared to be a slow and wobbly start. I slowed of course, actually brushed
bumpers very slightly, so I could not have gone any faster. Lost 2 places with the
slow start, was pushed gently by Mr BLunder into T1, but it "seemed" everyone
behaved well, and there were no incidents at the front half of the grid at least.

Followed Sandor for a couple of laps, passed when he became "uncertain" at St Mary's
Right! now I can set about trying to keep up with/catch Phil... Came into the double
right of Woodcote having spent the past couple of laps in early braking/don't ram anyone
mode, and went in WAY too deep/turned too late and went CRUMP! into the fence.
arghhh. Spent the next 27 laps in damage limitation mode, with rubbish front grip
in right handers, so that's most of the track then... was diabolically slow into
Madgwick and got passed by Dan a couple of times as he fell off/repassed people
Passed Sandor again as he fell off at Woodcote, scraped a lucky 6th.

Oh, one little thing for Da Management
The grid at Gooodwood seemed very tight, considering there
were a couple of dodgy starters we were lucky there were
no pile ups.

I remember when I used to do GPL leagues we had alernate grids
with wider/longer spacing, how hard is it to do that with GTL?
I remember I even made my own grid for Mosport and Silverstone
it was just changing some numbers in a file, can't remember details.

Is this an option? we would have to have UKGTL specific track
files of course, so may not be worth the bother, but in GPL it was the server
who set the grid spacing, not the clients, so only the server had to have
the modified file.

Thoughts?

Yeah, sorry guys another rubbish start again ::) I'll need to check the replay but cant remember much of the start but lost two places than a couple of people went off at St Marys which meant i ended up in 5th and with the gap behind growing a bit i was looking at a good result ::)  Saw the smoke from Geoffers but by that stage i'd already commited to the corner then only saw him late. Might be worth dropping the special effects i think.

Rejoined in about 14th and worked my way through the capri's then got behind Syd who was defending rather stoutly but his lack of speed through turn 1 meant i had nowhere to go dropping back again then managed catch up to Ade and TT and then tried to out brake Ade even though i was already past into the corner before the final chicane which meant I hit the barriers breaking the front splitter making it nigh-on-impossible just getting through the first few corners. But by that stage it had all gone downhill so decided to jump ship.

Almost no practice in the car or track meant my driving was rubbish, but it was just great to have a break from nappies be able to spin a few laps.

Cheers everyone, congrats to all finishers.
