Title: UKGTL Season 6 Classic Endurance - 05 TiAida (Okayama) - Sep 18
Post by: ginsters sponsored on July 19, 2008, 10:53:57 AM +0100
All members welcome.

Practice: 20:15 (10 mins)
Qualifying: 20:25 (10 mins)
Race: 20:35 (42 laps = ~80mins)

Track: 05 TiAida (download here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg81636#post_aida))
Cars allowed: Any TC65.
Time of Day Setting: 10:00
Start: STANDING
Pit Stops: You must make a minimum of one pit stop during which you must take on at least 1 litre of fuel or change your tyres. You cannot take your mandatory stop at the end of the pace lap, or with less than 1 lap to go.

Server: UKGTL Classics Cup
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.ukRules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3349.0).
(3) The season will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.6.5.0 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#msg54518).
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

(5) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=188;theme=5)

I'm experiencing CTD's on the loading screen at about 75% loaded. But not always. Tried changing no. of cars but this doesn't effect it. Tonight I was trying different cars out and on the 3rd go the game CTD. I have deleted and reinstalled track but no fix. Anyone else had this happen?

Just loaded it twice. Once in practice with two other cars, and a quick race. No crashing here.

Probably not going to make any difference, but have you removed the Team Prodigy GT40 and 911?
How about lowering the shadows?

I've noticed after recent races that some people seem to complain comment on other peoples car choices (i.e. too many people driving the Elan or BMW).
It's something I don't really understand. ???

The Race Admins ( very kindly) give everyone the same chance to choose what car they want to drive from a selection for each race.
Everyone gets to make that choice for themself, not for anybody else. What criteria you use to make that choice for yourself is up to each individual not anybody else.

If I'm wrong please explain why?  ???

Cheers
Legzy

p.s. I'm not sure what car I'll be driving at Okayama yet, but don't anyone dare pick the same one!  ;D

There looked to be some issues with the server earlier, I was getting the car selection screen minus any cars! Seems cool now though.

Great track choice btw, all the ingredients for an action packed enduro  ;D

No problems for me, track runs fine.

Great fun in the Alfa. Thought the Mini would like this track, but it seems hard work compared to the Alfa.

Falcoln hell. chortle
Tried everything 'cept Jag and Fiat500. I'm most comfy in the Alfa
probably the fine Italian leather that does it.

Tina is similar pace for me, Mini is 3 secs slower in my hands
maybe areal mini driver will do better.
Flacon is a big pot to hurl around, 'bout same times as mini
was my fave, but now I know the track a bit, I am quicker and more stable in Alfa.
What times are people getting? I reckon the aliens will be doing 1.47's
maybe the odd 46. I can only just creep under 50 in T'alfafa, maybe
could in Tina with more practice. having trouble with T1 again.
As said, should be a cracking track/car combo for a longgggg run.

No problems with the track for me. Did 10 laps practice and a 15 lap race with a full, 36 car grid, last night. I'll be taking the Mini next Thursday, though I think the Alfa will have the edge on it. Have dipped into the 1.50's, might just about get into the 1.49's if I can get that hairpin before the pit entrance sorted out. It's like a mobile geometry lesson, can't seem to get it right at all.

I was just reading that Okayama has a very large Zen monastery which has produced several abbots for other major monasteries. Pre-race prayers anyone? :notworthy: I think I'll need them.

I thought you'd favour the mini Phil, for a long race it's as much
what you are stable in as what is fastest.
I havn't got round to trying dry run races yet, I have just been
chucking the cars around.
I have a "line" for the last double hairpin thingy, in the Alfa it's
mostly sideways and pray for the first lefthander, then comtemplate
the meaning of the universe for the final right hander, before eventually
powering into the fast double right sequence.
Have not worked out what the best lines are for me, in that section
you can either go wide in the left, and tight into the right
or, as I have been doing, keep tight in the left, and take a wide late
apex into the right, so as to get best speed into the final pair of rights.

Other one that I'm not sure of is the 1st turn. You can either go in
tight and slow, or fast and wide, which seems better for the run down
to T2, but I seem to be waiting an age to get on the power that way
I'll figure it... :-\

"Drink from the empty petrol tank" isn't that a Zen thing?

There are never any conclusions to discussions like this....just opinions.

I suppose the best way to sum up is.

Do what YOU want and not what OTHERS want.

I will be taking the old mini out for a spin...mainly so I can drive underneath all the fat falcons when they are at a standstill going round the tight bends.  ;)

Will do some praccy (hopefully) for tonight....I need an afternoon off anyway  ;D 1:49:7 best so far.

Give or take a few tenths of a second, I'm equally pants in the Alfa/Cortina/Mini & Falcon.

So I've decided to dust off the Team Oldie Mini.  ;D

This was just not the race for me . The first 5 laps went alright and could keep up with the guys around me.
But I kinda lost the momentum somewhere. Spinned 5 laps in a row and completely lost the feeling with the car while I never hit the barrier hard.
Decided to quit the race before I ruined someone elses race.

Better luck next time. Hope you all had a good race

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I can't believe this!
No sign of any dodgy connection. Leading nicely by about 35 seconds. Decided to pit on lap 24 (even tho my tyres were holding up well). Stopped at my pit. Selected my changes. Connection Lost!!

It seems as soon as something out of the ordinary happens I lose it (e.g. racing close with someone or a rare pitstop). ISP is getting a phone call tomorrow but I bet they blame BT and BT blame anyone but themselves and I'm back into that fun journey again :(

Could have sworn the lights went out.. ::)

Yeah they did, but that was at the end of the "get to grid" timer and they were green light iirc. They then went red and did the normal thang. Unlucky mate I was looking forward to racing you :(
I thought you had been playing Race 07 too much (i.e. GO when the lights go OUT) lol

BTW: Do we get any points for moral victories? ;)

Really don't like that track. But what a fantastic race ;D

Had a bit of PR to start, really fair stuff mate. Then Spanner was my huge main course. We were inseparable all race long. Bit of side by side, bit of overtaking and hardly any mistakes. Nice. JR and Matt were served up as sweet, even though I was completely full :) That was as good as it gets.

My driver of the day is really close between between Oily, congrats, and JR, who pips it for not overtaking when I was flashing him through as I thought he was lapping me. Though I would have prolly been faster in the Falcon ;)

That start was classic Dan :D. I saw you drive off and I was like...huh, does enduro have formation lap or something ;D.

Had a good start and almost collected Dan who was wondering why he had such a quick start ;). I could get in 2nd after the back straight, infront of Madd.
I could almost hear his sigh that I was infront of him with a yanktank ;D. My tyres were gone before lap 10 and I was holding up Madd badly, but it was for position :).
Went in the pits, not knowing where the limiter had to be engaged, but I guessed where the lights were :P. Lucky guess as that didn't cause a problem.
However, having a yankeedoodle pitcrew did. I turned off my engine and slowly coasted towards the pitguy. Stopped, but nothing, no clipboard :(. Quickly pressed ignition and starter and engine fired up. But it immediatly stalled, eventhough I had my clutch pressed  ???. Pressed the starter again...nothing, pressed it again...nothing.
I was about to escape out, as I thought I hit a massive bug, but I just tried once more, pressing ignition (so turning it off again) and then pressing starter....and it fired up  :hammer:.

Lost about 30 seconds just cursing my pitcrew, and when they finally got to work, I needed a lot of fuel and tyres. Actually finished with half a tank left, and started with 120L ;D. I think I'm a bit overcautious with fuel in these tanks ;D.

Was a bit disappointed with the stop, as it prevented a better result, but I had a great 2nd stint :D. Could pass Spanner, SBG and Matt Rowe (makes me thing of Mike Row's dirty jobs at discovery channel ;D) on the back straight. But that cost me about 6 laps, and by that time my tyres were shot. So instead of increasing the lead, I was holding them all up again :P.
I was pushing the car to the limit, often going very sideways, but it just didn't want to go ;D.

Grats mr. Oily with the win :).

Oooh, that's why you flashed ;D. I thought you meant something like, yeah yeah use that stupid Falcon to power past on the straight ;D. Hence my flash the lap afterwards when I was able to power by :P.

It was kinda funny, as I was behind you when you were leaving room for me ;D. I could see you give me all that room, but I couldn't take it ;D.

Though I would have prolly been faster in the Falcon ;)

I have no doubt you would have been, too bad you chickened out :P ;) ;D

Good battles at the beginning with Legzy, Sandor and Bill. then everybody decided to pit  ???
Was working out a nice pit strategy during qually but totally forgot about the shortend time window..
rushed to qually, then rushed to grid, then forgot to fill up, back to garage and in total panic threw in fuel for 21 laps so I could basically throw away my nicely worked out strategy  ::)

next two weeks on hol so you have to do without the regular moving chicane...

Great race and grats to the podium.

Grats to podium,
I'm in a bit of a quandry now, do I risk buying a new psu or hope it is ok and reboot was just random (although this has happened a couple of times) because if it is dying then if I enter the next enduro will I suffer the same fate.
Not a happy bunny, a podium was on the cards.  >:(

What a race! I wasnt totally enamoured by the track/ car choice but it seemed to work. My fastest lap around here in qualifying put me nicely mid grid and got an ok start and took the first corner rather carefully. Then was running with PRibero, Blunder and SBG, managing to delay the inevitable with PRibero but a nice seat as Blunder seemed to dive down the inside of SBG and take them both out with Blunder in the gravel. Then seemed to be able to stay infront of SBG for a while until i got too sideways coming out of the hairpin but still i could keep with him. Even the pitstops didnt put me too far behind, as i changed all tyres as i was really struggling in the slow corners but meant i had Ruskus behind me and SBG and Matt in front.

For the rest of the race i was pretty happy to just sit there and watch Ruskus manhandle that thing around infront of the group and Matt trying anything to get passed it with my bumper glued to SBG's bumper. Great race guys, that's made my year ;D

I always seemd to be able to slowly creep back up if i slipped back for any reason, but just not enough to try anything silly. And i'm sure that i never got the same line through the uphill RH onto the back straight!

Congrats Oily on the win. Go Green!

I really like this track, has it all; good straights...ups...down...tight bends...large bends...
fast corners....and its long, as i like.....great track choice  ;)
I belive i raced here in the old Toca Race driver 1 or 2, cant remember wich one (i know its
arcade, but by then there werent much, if any, sim racing game)  ;D´
As for the race, very good batlle with Spanner and SBGinsters (like old days mate  ;) )
unfortunately the fun last only 10 laps, but i liked every second !
Very close and fair fight, cheers guys  :D
Congratulations mr_oily, nice win  ;)

Cheers

Mostly a really fun race for me. Ossie spun in front of me in the hairpin at the end of the straight
looked like he was going to slide wide, so went tight, but he came across track in front of me
Picked up some slight damage, times not particularly affected.
Tyres were going after lap 15, delayed stop untill 24, went for full repair/tyres/fuel and came out
in perfect order, right behind SBG who was going around a sec slower than I had been.
ah well, followed him politely for several laps, he made an error somewhere so i slipped by
then saw a big blue thing in mirrors, remembered alomost catching JR before pitstop
he seemd on a charge so I stayed wide for him in the hairpin, then found he was
all over the road, Several times he went so sideways I was convinced he was about to
spin! and backed off all through the slow bits, was losing heaps of time, and had
SBG and a green Tina close behind, but the display of sideways Falcoln was side splitting
to watch. had to lift big time out of final turn a couple of laps from the end, SBG
gets a better run up the outside, I stay right as I'm not sure where he was, braked
late and took a tight line in T1, as I had been doing in practice, no worries to get
round, just hoped he wouldn't turn in... oops we touch doors. Fortunately
not hard and no damage, sorry SBG I was CONVINCED that big tank was going to
fall off really soon, and I was going to be there when it... err didn't :-)

Good racing.

Any track that promotes so much close racing is good in my book & I had plenty of it here with a handful of people at different stages of the race. Great track for the mix of cars too with straights & corners. Nice to have a track that suited the lesser powered cars. Great work admins  8)

First few laps were funny, found myself surrounded by the multiple prodigy Alfa's of Tony, Tibs & Spadowski. It was like being swamped in snot!!!  ;D ;D ;D Add Sandor & Alex to that mix & we were having some good racing. I was dissappointed when I span off to lose them all for a while.

I didn't see spadowski again till just over a lap to go. My tyres were shot & you were gaining fast with every corner (& straight). I just watched the replay as we crossed the line together. Now that's a photo finish if ever I saw one!! Good driving Steve, you'd have had me if the line was an inch further..

Driving went ok from the begining, Alfa is awesome!  :-*  Had some close laps with Matt, Madd, Ossie...  :)  A few position changes, nice and clean.  8)
Went to pit at half. The first landing pitstop was unsuccesful, was probably a bit too much to the left. Went in again in the next lap, lost some hard won places.  >:(  Came to pit stall, car was lifted, I selected wanted chages, pressed enter, the the crew just ignored me.  ???  Waited for a minute, then quit.  tumbleweed

Too bad, I had the pace for 4th and with the Bara and Madd quitting, I could get a podium. This game doesn't like me.  :(

Yes, that last lap was fantastic fun! Only fun I had in the race to be honest.

In qualifying I set a personal best on RACE FUEL! Figured it bode well for the race. HA! Made a total hash of the start and dropped to 23rd by the end of the lap. Then Legzy and another Mini were fighting and it was hard to pass, so I figured I'd get my pitstop over we. Utterly screwed that up parking in the wrong place (despite a lot of practice), then a bunch of needless changes. So I head off in dead last by over 20 seconds. Make up a few places. Was motoring along in 15th with Pseudo gaining on me 2 seconds a lap. Then of course to make his life even easier, I spun. (ARGHH!) Gathered it up, drove off. Then Legzy pitted near the end and I pushed hard and really thought I'd get him coming down the straight. Another few meters and I would have, but I'm happy to just finish that close. Amazing finish.

Disappointed the race didn't go well. I think if I hadn't screwed up my start and my pitstop I'd have maybe scraped the top ten as when I was lapped, the cars around 5th place didn't pull away very much at all, so my pace was pretty good.

Ah well.

It seems as soon as something out of the ordinary happens I lose it (e.g. racing close with someone or a rare pitstop). ISP is getting a phone call tomorrow but I bet they blame BT and BT blame anyone but themselves and I'm back into that fun journey again :(

Few years ago I had problems with pitstops and connection. For some reason I disco'ed everytime the lap after my pitstop. I tried everything, but in the end taking another router helped  ???. No idea how a router could have caused those problems, but changing it helped. I only changed to a slightly faster one, so the old one might have been a bottleneck or something.
You could try that if you know somebody who has a better router.

Woooohooo!! ;D Excuse the milking of the moment but man it feels good (even this morning) to finally be on the top step! Haven't had a chance to watch the replay but it seems for once a combination of Tina power, hair-brained strategy and other people's gremlins did the trick!

I was still typing "GLA all" when I noticed Dan move off the line (bad luck dude!), almost followed suit but managed to contain the panic of being in neutral etc but left the door wide open for some hillbilly who blasted past in Shark colours with Geoffers in tow.

Got stuck very quickly into a bit of a dogfight and with Geoffers/ Ossie in their Alfas for fifth'ish. Went for the move on Geoffers into the tight left before the last two corners and after exchanging mirrors actually thought I'd punted him off! Not sure what happened but he disappeared out of my view and I slowed to wait, only to see both him and Ossie go flying past. Apologies lads, driving must have looked a bit sketchy at that point!

Stuck behind the Alfas and not wanting to risk ditching it early I went for my thimble full of fuel and no tyres, hoping for some clean air when I rejoined. Seemed to work ok and from there it was just a case of getting the head down and hoping I could make up enough to catch the leaders following their stops.

Need to work on my lapping still but other than a tiny tap on the rear of a Tina (sorry Tinman I think it was), didn't have any incidents or off-road excursions and after some lonely laps found myself in third with 10 to go.

In the zone I wasn't giving up but in the back of my mind thought closing the 19 sec gap to second may have been a little optimistic lol. About that time I get Tony on TS telling me he's seen the leaders in the pits and that I'm P1! As per usual the heart rate went up a notch and I nearly stuffed it in shock. I knew PR was going to be on fresh rubber and was watching the gap every lap expecting a grandstand finish but somehow I managed to cross the line P1!

Loved this track, just so much scope to overtake with the different lines available and the Tina is now quickly becoming a personal fave! As Spanner pointed out, some GT40's would be amazing around here too *nudge wink etc*.

Thanks all, really  bad luck Madd and Bara - having had similar issues last year I know how gutting that can be but that's probably not much consolation!

Grats PR and Geoffers, Jeff I don't know how you do it but it's damn entertaining to watch lol.

Cheers Ian/ Bob/ Greenies. Going to enjoy this while it lasts!

I wont whinge too much, but the "tiny tap" did my suspension (didn't have it fixed at the pitstop 'cos it would have taken too long). Never got within a second of my previous laptimes after that.
You must have waited about 2 minutes for me to get back in front - and yet you still won. Now that's pace.

That's a good idea. I have a hub downstairs which goes up to the actual broadband router (which is new) but maybe its time to replace the downstairs one. Worth a try so I will get one in town tomorrow.

The ISP said if the speed is normal then it must be something to do with the game and to speak to the developers. 10Tacle seem to have vanished so I dunno where to get support from. Anyway iRacing has done it a couple of times too so its not the netcode IMO.

The only other thing I could try is reformatting with XP and reinstalling everything (currently Vista on my race PC)?? Maybe that's it!?
Thanks for the tip Rusky :)

They reason why I knew it was my router was, because when I connected my PC directly to the modem, I had no problems. Maybe try a direct connection like that to see.

My best result here for some time. Great track for these cars, some really close racing.

Ran 4th in the early laps fighting off attacks by Mr Oily, Ossie & Matt Rowe. Nabbed 3rd when Madd spun, but we had a little disagreement a lap later which lost us both a couple of places. A lap further on I encountered some lag  >:(, so drove off the racing line until it cleared which dropped me to 8th just behind PR. We circulated together for several laps with PR gradually pulling away & with pistops & others misfortunes we were 1-2 with around 10 laps & pistops to go.

We pitted together but I made a mistake & forgot to cancel tyre changes & so spent twice as long in the pits as I needed to, grrrrr. In the end it probably didn't make any difference as I doubt I could have caught PR in the last few laps & would still have been 3rd.

Congrats to Oily & PR.

Cya next time

What a race! Really enjoyed this one.  I have not had a chance to race for a while due to other commitments and was surprised by the great turnout for a game that has been around for so long and nearly got canned a year or so ago.

Was great to see a lot of old faces and many new ones and the driving standards are still very high.

Well started seventh and made a few places up early on, had some good little fights throughout with Truetom and Matt Rowe and was very surprised to find myself in third for a while mid race.  Pitted on lap twenty seven with a bit of a delay in the pits and came out nineth (Gutted).  I found myself all alone with about a twelve second gap between me and the eighth place man and on new rubber started to pick up a couple of seconds a lap on him.  Two laps to go had 5th, 6th and 7th places in my sights but could not make up the deficit and finished a few seconds behind in eighth.

Many grats to podium, see you all again soon if shift pattern permits.
