 8) Cool, I won't have to learn both a new car & a new circuit for this weeks race (as I had a couple of practice go's at the Hatch a couple of months back).

Er, I just tried knocking out a couple of laps in the 911 at lunch time... I think mine is broken?!

I turn my steering wheel & nothing happens at the front end ???. The only thing that happens is the backend appears to get impatient to overtake the rest of the car, very quickly.
Do I need to send it back to my local Porka garage or is this a standerd feature on the 911?

Welcome aboard Jimmer :)

Might be my imagination, or wishfull thinking, but I have an easier time getting the slightly lighter/less powerful one to turn in. Mind you its my first race in these porkas so which one is best around here? Think I'll be around the 1.41/42 mark in the lighter one. At least we are all stuck in the same boat/911 ;).

Are there 2 differnent versions of this magnificent car ?
Did some laps and managed a 1.42 but i haven't noticed that there is a lighter/ heavier version.

There's a lighter weight version (the one without the whale tail). I find that the difference around Brands is negligible. On principle though I always take the lighter version, which is much better at some other tracks.

If the steering wheel appears to be connected to the back why not go in reverse i am i did a 3.00.3 ace!!!

The 23 Drake Racing Porsche wasn't included in the new pack Syd  :(

I only included cars that I was informed of by the owners as per the instructions given for this new pack.

Sorry if you missed it....but ensure you re-submit it for inclusion for the next pack.

The Gray Martini Porsche is somewhat lighter (987 kg vs 1010 kg) and has somewhat more power (just a couple of kW).
The Porsche is also more expensive in the game (2k vs 1k)...

btw. thx for the setup... never driven the Porsche  :o

I would guess the reason for some of us is "we're married" :(. At about 10:30 our chores are completed & the Mrs has fallen asleep & so we get the party started  ;D.

To be fair, I can do a bit earlier usually on the Wednesday night & have bumped into others on-line, but about 10:30pm people just seem to turn up. Maybe that's when Blunder comes on? Someone to roar past at every turn  ;)

Start of the new sprint season is here....at last. :)

It may have come to your notice, but after a lot of deliberation, Myself and SBG have decided NOT to introduce the much talked about 'Punt Rule'. Whilst it obviously has it's merits in endevouring to reduce the number/severity of first lap incidents, it was in the main not very well received by the majority of regulars so we will not introduce it.

There is a down side to this however. The number/severity of first lap incidents still have to be addressed and illiminated as much as possible. But without the above rule we are totally reliant on incident reports that you submit....and unfortunately the vast majority of incidents tend to go unreported.

Therefore we must ask for your co-operation and please submit an incident report....no matter how minor or trivial it seems. The reports are not there so we can hand out penalties and 'punish' people, they are there so we can highlight and hopefully help illiminate errors etc....so don't be frightened to submit one if you see anything amiss.

SBG and myself have decided to monitor the starts and first laps closely.....not with the intention of submitting third party reports (unless we spot something that obviously requires action) and try our best to offer help and advice to anybody that may seem to be struggling with the start procedures. But, If last seasons trend continues and we still suffer from start procedure problems, we will have no alternative but to switch to rolling starts....and we don't want that.

Last season was a great seasons racing here....only marred by the number of start/first lap incidents. We are hoping this season can be better still...and I'm confident it will be too.

If the punt rule was the self imposed drive thru after an incident; I have no problem with that. I thought it was the suggestion of rolling starts that met the most opposition?

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 6 GT Classics Cup - Brands Hatch (GP) - Aug 14
Post by: psuedo on August 14, 2008, 11:17:45 AM +0100
Both really Tony, the vast majority are against rolling starts, but likewise the punt rule wasn't very well received.

So we want to simply leave things as they are and hope the 'threat' (for want of a better word) of having to switch to rolling starts will be enough to ensure we all show enough caution/sensibillity/awareness to help illiminate some of the incidents seen in previous seasons.

From what we saw last night, the Porka 911's are going to be more prone to T1 problems then most cars.
A good way to get the season kicked off I'd say, with a bang!

Post by: Sandor M on August 14, 2008, 01:24:35 PM +0100
Rather not with a bang, then we will get the "rolling starts"   ;)

But indeed , i've got much trouble with the Porsche in turn1 , slippin' and slidin' wherever the car wants to go to.
I think I'm gonna keep it second gear all first round just to make sure  ;D

Post by: psuedo on August 14, 2008, 03:46:24 PM +0100
yep...same for everyone with the porkas.

It will be a decent test of the starts tonight...because of the car/track choice....so if we can all handle it ok then that can only bode well for the rest of the season.

All that's required is to get away from the line cleanly (ie practice starts) and not overcook things trying to gain places into T1 (ie don't try anything your granny wouldn't do).
 ;D

If the punt rule was the self imposed drive thru after an incident; I have no problem with that.

Even though there is no rule as such, it would be nice if it was the "done thing" on lap 1. A gentlemans agreement if you like :)

If we can get through tonight unscathed we can do almost anything. Although Cobras vs the Penelope Pitstop car at Thruxton (shudders) might be a bigger test :)

Found a slight problem: the Team Prodigy Porsche 911 is number 205711. The Team Prodigy GT40 is number 205711. So the TP porsche won't load.

Any chance of a skin pack update? It'd take me 5 mins to sort them out.

Gutted - lost connection AGAIN :(   - Good start to the season then!

Had a iffy start, got a better initial launch than Dan and pulled along side, but then changed into 2nd gear and it was still wheelspinning (!) so I lost momentum but still managed to hold the inside into Paddock. He had a go back into the left hander after chicane but overcoooked it and I got a slice back on him on the exit.

Slowly pulling a lead and I was in a nice frame of mind to settle into a rhythm, then I had that haunted ghost town feeling... crossed the line with a 26 sec lead which kinda confirmed my thoughts, but then on the stretch behind the pits I caught a glimpse of nametags so thought "cool its OK, but how did Dan spin and how could us 2 even have got 26 sec ahead of 3rd. Then going down the back straight... connection lost! :(

Hope you guys have more luck!

Oh and great time in Q Tibs - see that new PC is working for you then ;)

Waste of time for me too. Those cars have to be one of the worst handling cars to drive in game and at my favorite circuit too. Anyway, eventually nicked a setup Baracus sent me for Anderstorp and although the car still felt rubbish, it felt slightly less rubbish. :)

Race started and my wheel was a whole lock to the left of straight (running at 900 degrees now), which of course I didn't know and proceeded to drive straight off the grid and onto the grass. Actually thought this might be a blessing, to avoid all the mayhem, but going through dingle dell there was accident and a red Porsche in front moved across me wiping both of us out. End of race. Just one of those things, but to be honest rubbish cars at a great track.

I do get the feeling there is something very wrong with the 911 model in GTL as it just doesn't handle anything like a car.

Kinda disappointed in this combo as well :-\ The 911 was ace around croft and to be honest ruddy hard work around here. Its a shame we had to change this last mo.

Gutted for you Syd and Bob. Thats really odd cause Phil used a standard skin I think, perhaps he could fill in the details and help you out. Equally annoyed for Dan and Bara >:(

That said I had a ball tonight ;D Terrible quali left me midfield and a little worried for my safety but standards were excellent around me. Had to chuckle as we all drove slowly in single file for first lap but thats the way to go, for me. A good race developed as a result. Kinda threw away a jammy podium but couldn't have given it to a nicer chap ;) Apologies for spin Alex and Racepace, entirely my fault.

Congrats PR, Oily (that pass will look nice on replay :)) and Ade. Welcome to Matt, Mauro and Race Pace who all drove impeccably around me.

Race with a couple of firsts:
- First race where the track was obscured by smoke. Even had to lift the throttle to find out where the h*ck that corner began.
- WHO STOLE THAT 50 METER/YARD board after paddock hill bend. That was my braking point!  :D
- First race with 40 minutes of battle. WOW!
- First race were I came across cars who actually braked earlier than me  ;D
- Race with most spinning cars during a race: behind, at the side of the track and right in front of me!! (np SBG)
- First race to see the Gentlemen Drivers score solid points... I'm almost moved to tears  :'(

Thanks for a great race!

PS. Sandor, finally our flat four experience paid off  ;)

Shame you weren't dressed in green but lets just add those points up

Great race, don't completely love the Porsche but it had it's moments.

Glad this wasn't Croft tho. Would have been too much learning this car and new circuit.

Roll on next week, congrats to the other pods.

Is it something personal? Both times I've been using standard skins, honest.

That's the Olympics Ice Skating final out the way then!  :surrender:
Very pleased with my final position as due to the track/car combo :ban:, the game plan was set before the race just to try not to come off the track. I figured it could be worth a top Ten finish for me.

Hurrah! 10th spot it was  :w00t:. Just suffered a single spin all on my own :whistling:. Had some good racing with some of you but decided to let most people past fairly quickly in fear of taking someone out or being taken out myself.

I feel a sense of achievement getting to the end, but I'm not sure I'd drive the 911  :hammer: through choice after this experience. I'm guessing that the car was selected as normally it's kind of skipped over by everyone. If this is the case, maybe a choice of two cars nobody wants to drive would work better. :-\

Good racing guys, well done to the new racers & well done to the podiums.

(@ Psuedo - Race Pace = Jimmer)

EDIT - Forgot to mention how odd/sad it was to see 6 people dropping out of the game before completing the 1st lap.

Got gifted a couple places but had great battles with Dan harrassing me at Paddock and Ginsters out the back through the fast stuff to mention a couple.

Really sorry again Mark, cheers for a quality race all ;D

Race started and my wheel was a whole lock to the left of straight (running at 900 degrees now), which of course I didn't know and proceeded to drive straight off the grid and onto the grass.
Lol! Sorry I had to laugh. I've got a good picture in my head.

After some last races a bit unlucky for me, finally one with luck (balance of life)  ;D
To be honest i never drove the 911 on a single race, tried once but didnt like,
therefore it was a bit strange, but managed to start at 7th place (lucky last minute setup).  :P
Good start put me in 5th place, then, with the misfortune of Baracus (sorry to hear your net issues)
Mr.Oily, Dan and Geoffers i jumped to 1st and secured the spot.  :) Dan and Mr. Oily were always
faster than me.
Nice car choice, maybe it could be in another track (a flat one?) thats suites better for the Porsches.
Congrats to all, and thanks to the backmarkers, good job. ;)
Cheers

Had a blast tonight   ;D cheers guys, totally unexpected 6th on the grid for me  :o  Big thanks to Geoffers  for the setup  :thumbup2: doing real well in 3rd i think until lap 7 and threw it off track at Hawthorn  :o  took a while to sort myself out and started to chase down Phil for twelve laps, good driving mate  :thumbup1: got on his tail on lap 20 when he got out off shape at the sight of Ginsters sideways on at Cooper straight  :o what was that all about SBG ? plus with Dan Mintons problems i was gifted back third  ;D Thanks to the back marker you where great  :thumbup2: it always worries me when you throw yourselves  off track  to let folk past ??? you don't have to do it. Congratulations Pribeiro and Mr Oily  :notworthy:

Grats to you too Ade. After winding me in over all those laps I thought you deserved my place, though I could have given it to you a little more elegantly.

What a start of the season.

After just one race already the best finishing spot for me personally and also the most championship points ever for 'Gentleman Drivers Club' .

Lap 1 was a bit rude with Geoffers giving me a hard kiss from the back (NP Geoffers, glad we both could proceed and have a decent race)
After that had to start from the back and had a fun race with action all the time.
In the end i made a few mistakes what resulted in a sprint to the finish with Matt Rowe .

PS. Sandor, finally our flat four experience paid off  ;)
Yeah, it was just like driving my own 1300 down the road , only with some extra HP ;D

Really up and down race,  Got a decent start but New Bara was there at paddock and left him room and he went through . As Bara always go's quicker through the race i new it was gonna be a good battle  :)  Made a little mistake and Bara pulled a second on me but i started to draw him in when his car froze right on the entry to dingle dell, braked and tried to miss him but just clipped his car and went flying into the barriers..Gutted  :(.
This tore off my front bumper and twisted all the steering but decided to go on.   Oily and PR were in front of me now , oily made a mistake and me a PR had a good battle with PR being very crafty with his race craft but fair  ;)  I tried to cut back going on to bottom bend but just clipped PR and we both spun sorry mate.
Had a good battle with Oily and pr again until pR got held up at sterlings and i got through to 2nd , caught oily who was driving well aand managed to get through and was managing to hold a gap from PR until i spun at sterlings and couldnt find neutral or reverse then i stalled it and couldnt remember where the starter button was so just sat there like a lemming facing the barrier.

Anyway an exciting race ..grats to podium.
Cheers

Fun race last night.
Was way off the pace but drove consistently and watched everybody fall off around me!
Did a PB in Quali and the Race!
Lack of a good set up and talent held me back!  ;)

Bumped off the track by Matt, while giving him room to overtake  :(
Will review the replay

Thanks all.

Wierd one for me last night  ???

Got on the praccy server ok but got a CTD after about 10 mins....then try as I might, I couldn't get back passed the password screen....after entering password it just took me back to the lobby, slowed my pc for a minute or two then.......nothing....just back to a normal lobby. Joined other servers ok.

Anyone else ever had this?....and any idea what it could be?

Yeah does sound familiar actually pseudo - it's almost as if when there's a CTD for whatever reason, it doesn't close the port/ connection with the server properly leaving it busy for the rest of the session. I'm sure somebody can do a better job of explaining this but I had it a lot at one stage.

I still to this day don't know a definitive answer to sorting it as I upgraded machine and haven't had it since, but typing "ipconfig /renew" in your command window can help sometimes!

Can't do a better job of explaining it but that concurs fully with what I've experienced when I've had a crash while online. In my case I rebooted the router each time, which in effect gave me a new ip address and allowed me back in.

Start didnt look too bad either  ;) ;D

I had that for one of the races last season. Think it was Mexico? Restarting the router didn't work, tried it 5 times and still the same thing. Don't know what made it work again afterwards.

My Two farthings.

Great race, really enjoyed it, despite the frustration of the way those Porches handle
or don't. Sincere appologies to Mr Blunder, was not aware he was trying to let me past
could not understand why he braked so early and stayed off the power so long
while I was desperately trying to slow, different viewpoint I guess, I could see
no way to avoid on the inside or the outside, and I am just not good enough
to try a pass there anyway. Ah well newbie error I guess.

Thanks to organisers.
Matt.

Don't beat yourself up about it Matt.
All of us have done it before and will likely do it again!?  :D
Bit frustrated at the time but luckily it didn't really effect my race.
I was way slow and chose not to fight for that position as you were way quicker.
Better to let you through and avoid an incident!? Err.... ok may be I should have let you past on the straight!?  ;D

No worries!

M.

Cool, thanks for the understanding Martin.
Perhaps in an easier to control car I'd had more than 2 hr's
total drive time in, I might have been able to drive round you
My perception was that although I was catching you. we were
going at much the same speed, caught me off guard.
Normally I throw my car into the fence rather than touch
someone in a league race. I must learn that people here
are polite and, err, let you pass??????? no, no, wake up Matt
:-)
Nowthen, to Oulton.
You can still see the marks on the fence at
Old Hall where I stuffed an Ax a few years ago, and....
I can almost see Phil's old house!
Chortle.

Apart from the first lap I had an excellent race. I seem to be one of the few who actually likes driving the Porka.

The first lap was a bit of a disaster >:(. Got a good start & went for the gap between the 2 cars in front which closed so I had to lift off which let PR get past into Paddock. All was going well until I gave it too much gas on cold tyres at Surtees & half spun into the barriers. Quickly regained the track but lost about 8 places. Then got caught out by Sandor braking early at the chicane, braked hard but got sideways, managed to catch it but couldn't avoid running into Sandor . Many apologies Sandor, totally my fault.

Waited for Sandor to rejoin, meanwhile 2 other Porkas slammed into the barriers right in front of us. Set off again & then had a cracking race working my way through the field to an eventual 6th place.

Congrats to PR, Mr Oily & Ade (no probs with the setup)

See you all at Oulton
Geoffers
