Wonderful to have a race featuring the Merc.

Note to Organisers - I seem to recall that when I raced these beast's last, in MARA, we had to install a fix for crash detection or behavior or something. Sorry I cannot remember exactly what the problem was. Perhaps you could check nogrip for a such a fix?

Thank you Tony :thumbup1: I was unaware there was such a problem but noticed exploding Mercs, from racing touches, trouble surfaced during a recent no-grip race. We are looking into it.

Anybody got experience of using the available fix (please don't install it yet if you haven't done so, we will sort it :)) ?

The fix available at No-Grip (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=4181) works fine, been running it for ages with no issues.  It's definitely needed.

The read-me file for the fix says that it only needs to be installed on the server to fix everyones car. But if your racing offline you will need to install the fix as well.

Its not like the option to run the Merc has only just appeared how come this is ony coming to light? I seem to remember a few people running them before but cant remember if something like this appeared.

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 6 GT Classics Cup - Crystal Palace - Sep 25

Well the Merc isn't a popular car to choose in GTC-65 races so it only gets picked when it's Hobsons choice. I don't recall a only Merc race in SROU before. I only knew about the problem because I'd had to drive one in another league.

I'm glad we're being forced to run these because there would be no way in hell i'd choose this ;D

Its surprisingly fun trying to sail this boat around here, i think the brakes on this car are only for testing the bulbs. You seem to have to drive it off the rears as it seems to brake traction so easily with all that torque.

This race is going to end in carnage for many. A lot of peoples races are going to be ruined in other peoples accidents.

Yes, I may be cynical, but I am certain there is going to be big trouble. The car is fun, but on this track it's suicidal.

Will cross my fingers the fix works.
Love these cars but I have tried a few offline races and it is a nightmare getting past any of the cars.
I have to restart half a dozen times before I get a clean first lap!?
Like the vertical jumps though!  ;)

Don't think anyone should be unduly frightened :) The Merc feels very neutral to me and its far easier to drive than the choices for the fun race we had around here, which went off without much grief. Care will be needed but I have no such concerns, we wouldn't have chosen the combo else ;) We should have news on the "exploding" Merc fix soon.

Should just let you all know that grid slots will be limited as garages are in shortish supply here. We all should get on but get there early to avoid dissapointment.

Don't know about "exploding" but they sure bounce well! Applied the fix, and now they are, if anything
overly tolerant to contact. They still bump each other around, but they don't leap off the track
vertically anymore.
Tried changing setups to make it less wobbly, and I succeeded, but also made it very slow in
the proccess, it seems to hustle it round you need it to be a bit loose, and you need a sensitive
right foot (still working on that) easy enough to slide round for a few laps, but in a proper race, I think there will be
the odd spin. Having said that, they seem to handle like the Falcoln, they go very sidways before
completely losing it. I've tried an AI race, and they just form a train, and as stated are tough
to get past. I think with mere mortals running there is likely to be a greater speed differential.

Yes, I've found that too. In an offline race last night I appeared to pass sideways through the middle of another car. Still, better that than VTOL. Should be a laugh this one, and with enough practice beforehand, there's no need for it to be any more accident-prone than any other race. You might like to remind me that I said that when you see me lying wheels-up in a ditch.

Thank god, we are in this stuff for a while, therefore we might use our brain and drive with extra carefull,
due to a - so - different driving stile car. Dont forget that the good drivers, drive all cars  ;D unfortunately,
i am an average one, so i will try to drive with carefull and under the limits for fun  :D
EXCELLENT choice Mr. SBG  ;) (as usual, i might say)
I only hope i can be there.

Having done 34 laps on the server tonight, I had fun and MY GOD this car is built like a TANK! I bounced off the walls lord knows how many times and the car kept on going without a hint of damage.

I've come to the conclusion that Thursday has the potential for huge amounts of comedy as these indestructible cars spend 40 minutes bouncing off each other, as well as the scenery, so I'm not dreading it so much now.  ;D

Will be there if I'm home Tony. Gotta go out and grab a few things. If I'm lucky I can make it back before you lot bugger off to bed.

Bara, were you having all of those connection problems while plugged directly into your modem?

Or were you using a Gateway modem? (Modem/Router combo)

None of you are true Sim Racing Gamers unless you race this one with a leather cap, pilot goggles, white wool scarf and a giant fan blowing in your face.

Bara, were you having all of those connection problems while plugged directly into your modem?

Or were you using a Gateway modem? (Modem/Router combo)

My house is on 3 floors - the phoneline comes in on the top floor (my office) and into the modem/router up there, then a lead goes down to the middle floor where I have the now new 5 port switch. This then splits it out to my game PC and into the bedroom for my laptop and my GF's laptop - and a spare for the PS3 but I usually run that wireless if I ever need it online.

I'm pretty sure its all plugged in right (its the way it always was when it was stable at least!). There is a WAN port on the new switch but I have just plugged all of them into the other 4 ports. Should I be using the WAN for the line that goes upstairs?

Thanks for your help :)

Hello to all members. It's been a while since my last race here. I might have the time to join you tonight. However, I have seen that turnout was very good in the last race, and I don't know what is the server capacity. I don't want to take the place of some of the regular drivers.

Server capacity for tonight is 30 cars.

It is normally a little higher (36) but this track only has 30 grid places.

You are welcome to join in...pretty sure there will be room for you.

I'm sure we will not be that close to the 30 limit Davor so please join us. You will need skin pack, updated track and remember to be slower than us gents as well  ;)

Also you, and all, will need this fix http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=4181 It stops the Mercs exploding all over the track and its been checked (ta Pseudo) for nasties. Remember, mismatches will not be allowed.

Well what started out as a good fun race turned into a nightmare for me. I comitted the unforgiveable sin of taking out the leader while being lapped. I can't apologise enough Dan.

Also apologies to Bill who I ran into earlier in the race, very sorry Bill.

Felt so bad about these incidents I couldn't concentrate & quit the race.

Awesome race!! ;D  Followed Bara for the first few laps but he was a couple of tenths quicker and just started to edge away until he made a mistake at the right hander at the end of the back straight. Just about squeezed through and then had Bara following me for the next 15 or so laps ,  Could keep the gap at around 8 tenths but new Bara would be through if i made the slightest mistake. Great battle mate. ;)
Unluckly while lapping someone i got rear ended which cost me the lead and followed Bara home for second.

Grats to Bara and Steve on the third, thx all the lappers not one of the easiest tracks to look forward and in the mirror. ;)

Very tough, yet enjoyable race. Without previous practice I managed 1:01, and could have gone into low 1:00s, but consistency was not there, and I produced way too many mistakes. Also, with so many cars on such short and twisty track it was a nightmare to let all people pass easily. I (and also others as I have seen) had a few scary moments, and I think I have caught PRibeiro when I tried to save the car in the turn before the long straight. I checked my replay, but there was only invisible car flashing at me. My apologies.
Otherwise, really great race. I am in love with that uphill turn after the long straight. It feels almost suicidal on approach, but somehow car bites the road every single time. Amazing.

Yeah, I agree Davor, really nice corner that right hander.   :)

Grats to Bara and Dan, good pace, sounds like you had some fun, just wish I'd been able to produce my best so I could join in instead of trundling round rather conservatively.

Shoulda realised I wasn't at my sharpest when after 12-14 qually laps I was still well off the pace I'd done in practice couple of days ago, finally, on the last gasp I managed a decent lap, but that was the only one for the whole evening!  Just didn't have the reactions to push right to the limit, had to take it down a notch in the race and play it safe running 1:00.1/2/3s, about three or four tenths off what I'd been aiming for.   Finishing ten seconds off Bara certainly flatters my pace.

Actually kind of worked, only a couple of minor mistakes one of which lost me momentum and 3rd to Assassino, but I think he lost it later after lapping someone and entering a corner off-line.  So a podium was pretty good considering.  Driving safely isn't nearly as much fun as riding the limit all night though.  :(  My setup wasn't perfect, pretty stiff, particularly at the rear, had terrible traction out of T2 and round T3 compared to the guys ahead, but it paid back in the faster bits so not too bad.

Lappees were brilliant last night, everyone did a great job, and Martin, thanks, you were most courteous of all, I owe ya!  ;)

No mate, you didnt, i passed safely, all went well.  ;)

To be honest, i was with big hopes for this racing, why? Because as some of you know, i enjoy so much,
weird and odd performance cars.  :P
Qualified with a 0.59.xxx and in a track like this all could happen, for good and for bad aswell.  ;D
After the start (great start from all, no mess) :thumbup2: i soon realised that will be very difficult to follow
the front drivers though, i was loosing a few tenths every lap, despite keep them in sight.
But the top enjoy of the race was, with no dought, the batlle beetween SBGinsters and me,
very, very, very and very close, i am sure, i spent more time looking to my rear mirror than to the front
windscreen (im glad i always stayed on the tarmac)  :whistling:
Congratulations to  Baracus win, glad your connection issues are fixed
Congrats to Dan and Steve for the podium, and thanks to Assassino for the team game (good points
to the overall table possitions)  :w00t:

Thanks and an applause for the all backmarkers, they were just fantastic, trying to keep they own pace
but letting us overtook them very easely. Although the similar effect cars and a hard layout track,
they did a very good job.  :notworthy:

Cheers

OK race, not one to write home about. Seem to remember overtaking once & being overtaken twice (other then being lapped) & neighbouring cars always seemed to be a good few seconds either side of me.

Two biggest bonus' from this race:
1) When we raced here about two months ago I span out about 5 times & lost loads of time, tonight I didn't spin out once :alien: ;D 8)
2) My teammate (Blunder) has been disqualified & re-ranked one place behind me. Perfect!!!  >:D

"Teammate" - usually the first guy you have to beat, right? :D

Usually? What do you mean usually? Surely you meant 'always'? ;)

Just to quote our Team Oldie Handbook, subsection 6f - "Beat your teammates at all costs, take all/any opportunities to nudge them into ditches/walls (when safe for your own car to do so)."  :o :-X

Legzy (Dick Dastardly)

p.s. If they can just DQ Tinman too, then I move up again to score a Championship point  :P

Good fun race, the Merc was sufficiently odd and the track testing enough to make it
for me at least a real challenge. Had done 42 laps straight in testing without falling off once
managed a PB in Qual, didn't quite get under 60, so was hoping for an interesting race.
How is it that I can lap for ever without falling off, give me a car to chase and oh dear
there's another wall mark downthe side of me car. Must be the stress  :-\

Had some fun with Oily in the first few laps, passed him 1.5 times, took some white paint
off the pit wall doing it, as room was at a "premium", let him past on the back straight
as I'd screwed up the brow, and then spun a couple of laps later trying to outdrag him
again on the front straight. Kept catching up with the Spanner/Ossie/Syd battle
and no sooner would I catch them up than I'd fall off, and have to do it all over again
Overall had a good time.
Grats to podium for staying on the grey, and Organisers for the event, oh and a special
round of applause to the marshalls without whom we would not be able to race.

A relief that my connection lasted after a disco in pre-race praccy. Drove with that feeling that at any point it would give up - even on the last lap I was thinking "don't you dare drop now!" but all good... this time!

Had a good start, getting the power down with a little wiggle that felt pretty much on the limit. Pulled slightly away from Dan but consistently. Got into a nice ryhthm that went to pot when I had to avoid a spinner coming on to the back straight. That put me off my stride and I went into the wall on the fast uphill right when I was further distracted by someone else that looked like they were about to spin out up the hill. Managed to avoid hitting him by jinking right at the last second which almost took me into the path of Dan, but he managed to get by cleanly! Sorry about that scare mate I really didn't have time to look in my mirrors at that point so didn't know you were already that close!

Had some great laps trying to catch Dan back up but I was driving a bit too hard and losing grip at the key places I needed it so couldn't get a run on him.

Unfortunately he then had coming together when lapping and I felt obliged to take my place back ;)

My driving settled down after that as I had a 5 odd second gap so I just kept it safe and gentle on the throttle which felt a lot better out of the loose bends (mainly one onto back straight and last bend where I was previously slipping when I was keen to catch Dan :D  )

Dunno if I'm more relieved to win, or to actually finish a race these days! Definately the latter hehe

Also apologies to Bill who I ran into earlier in the race, very sorry Bill.

Thanks Geoffers, I caused most of the problems I had last night. Qualified 22nd and got up to 17th I think by lap 4.  I then lost it on that double radius corner after the long straight, held it but ended up on the right hand Armco at an angle where I couldn't see anything and having to reverse across the track.  I waited patiently and got going again last.  Had a few laps catching up then found the "magnetic" barriers and lost time getting off and almost immediately found a second set.  After that it was catch up big time which I managed to do only to have the people overtaken to quit.  I caught up to Davor a couple of times (1 lap ahead) but kept loosing touch with him, the overtakers taking precedence as I had no one behind me and nothing to race for.  Finished 4 laps down.

Bill

Qually time was some way down on pb.  Started well and had some long  battles with Mr Oily,Syd Drake and Spanner.  Appologies to Mr Oily for the knock.

Started ninth and finished ninth, could have been higher exept for some ropey driving on my part.  Congrats podium and see you all again soon.

Here is a little vid of the race.(takes approx 2 mins to d/load)

Nice video!  :punk:

Hmm... I wondered who hit me from behind into the last corner, as i was taking a tighter slower line in as someone was on the outside.

Very good.  Makes me feel better seeing everyone else having big offs - none of mine were that spectacular.

So what software do you use to produce all these goodies? I love overanalysing everything.

If you mean the results analyser, try this thread:

For some reason I couldn't get v1.65 to work on my PC but 1.61 is fine.

Do feel free to post the lapcharts yourself, I just do it sometimes since Jeff's ben unable to race much.
