Hello all! I´m a fair gentleman racer from Finland and would like to join you guys in the GTL action if it´s allright with you. Been racing sims online/offline for a few years with GTL, GTR2, rFactor, RBR, and now with my latest sim GTR Evo. I have been looking for a league or club with fair, clean racing and hopefully I am in a right place now. I heard about this league from my good friend Spadowski.

Should I have all the GTL tracks and cars in downloads page installed? I tried to download tracks and stuff from Filefront but the links only started my own upload page and did not direct me to the GTL download stuff. I may be a noob using Filefront, so could you give me some hints of how to get all the necessary files installed.

Greetings, did Mr Spadowski also mention the most splended GTL Team "Team Prodigy"?

Send me a pm for further details.

Hello Dynosaur welcome to the forum. I'd recommend you install the track pack and the skin pack then download the track of choice if you want to run at a forthcoming event. You will also need the addon cars, Aston martin, Ferrari and mclaren for the next few races as well.

You should just click on the track link which takes you to the filefront page for the track then click on 'download now'. Hope to see you around!

Does it matter which of the available addon car liveries you pick? I realise there is a ukgtl labeled car in the Ferrair and Aston list but is that just so it 'costs' 1? Is there anything different about that car? Probably a bit late to ask this but was going to persevere with the ferrari around here.

No differences....I only added the UKGTL version so that any folk that didn't have the available in game funds could still obtain the car.  ;)

Just wondering what's the usual sort of laptime round this track?

On the GTLrank I am the only one with a laptime in the Austin Healey with a 57.006. I tried the DB4 but it's not an easy drive!

You're about level with me at the moment then with a 57, still a couple of days practice to maybe knock off a second or two if we're lucky.  :o

I think there is something odd with Mallory on GTL Rank. I think the cutoff time to eliminate warp laps is set at 55.000s, which is too slow. According to GTL Rank I am the outright lap record holder in a Mini!, but I have done low 54s in the Alfa & Cortina.

Gonna give the Ferrari a run this race. Mid 54s with it at the moment. I guess the experts will be in the 52s! ???

It does indeed exist Alex, but it was originally designed for horses to trot around. I've only ever watched classic bikes race round here, none of which flung themselves into the barriers like the AI cars. That hairpin is a vicious swine; keep well clear.

That hairpin by the white pub should be tight for a grid of cars!..it was tight enough in the E-Type on its own.  :o

Too right.   :thumbup1:  How can a track with only 4 corners be so much fun, but it is.

Crazy short lap though and what corners there are aren't easy, gonna be busy tonight.

Fezza for me.

Lucky lucky MJ, although I have to say I'd be a bit scared to drive someone else's precious old classic round here, gently does it!

thanks guys.

Had a look a Google and I saw that they (sensibly in this case) put in some chicanes, but it must have (been?) great to powerslide round that first bend... it goes on forever..with only grass to stop you running into the barriers

Hope it will not turn into a crashfest tonite  :-\

More caution than normal is required but I see no reason (or excuses ;)) that we can't have a good race tonight. I hope everyone gets to enjoy that T1 at least once tonight :)

I'll try and retain my lead in the unofficial Aston cup tonight.

I hope everyone but Team Prod crashes into each other at the first corner and Team Prod winds up with a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 (I forget exactly how many members we have ;D)

Quit about half way through - as usual got a rocket start (can nobody else count backwards from 3?!) and gained 3 places, but the heavy iron was so quick a straight line and so slow in the bends, especially out of the hairpin, that there was no prospect of overtaking with an off and indeed significant danger of running into someone (had to slam on the anchors once in turn one to avoid it!).

Was having an interesting if frustrating little battle with Geoffers when his car warped back half its own length in the final corner - with right behind him he inevitably went sailing off. Tried to wait but the track is narrow and the front straight so quick that it's not really safe to do so. Set off again but was only really racing the lapped cars, and I was having no fun at all so I stopped.

I can't really say I like the track at all - there aren't any 'proper' passing places at all. I think I've driven it once before in GPL and never again - now I know why! ::)

Although I think the moderators are going to have some work, I enjoyed every minute (unlike the Tilke track last week..).

Hard but fair battles during the entire race. Sorry if I held up the leaders; got my hands full on keeping the Healey on the road and watching the mirrors  :D

They seriously race this track? Bl**y awesome!! They should get a medal.

Thanks all!

can nobody else count backwards from 3?

It's called 'taking it easy on the first lap' Dave. After several disastrous standing starts we've been repeatedly implored not to make a mad dash for the first corner. That's why you've found it easy to burn us all off at the start in the last couple of races.

Great race with Steve was awsome slicing through the back markers together, Left braking a liitle bit too late going into the hairpin for the final time and went off, then didnt know what button was neutral so couldnt get reverse.
Watched Bara and a few others go past in my mirror and wept  :'(
Cheers for the great chase Steve and grats on win and rest of podium.

Well what's the point of standing starts then if everyone is just going to creep off the line 2 seconds after the start? ??? You might as well go back to rolling starts and have some heat in tyres and brakes.

The idea is to pay extra care and attention and be very cautious at the start due to the many accidents and cases of over driving off the line...however...you can still do that quickly as Dave does.....how many start line incidents/accidents or errors have you had Dave? what...none.  ;) ;D

Its not the counting down its when the exact time you can go without jumping the start ;D. I try and go on the word 'Go'

An amazing time in qualy put me 5th with half the session to go but ended up dropping to 6th but still bloody amazing! However my lack of extended running in the Aston showed as after the first 10 laps or so my times dropped off alot and towards the end it was a struggle keeping it on the track. Managed to keep Ade behind me for a while, hope i wasnt too lairy! but I fell off, letting him through. Bara must have fell off as he rejoined behind me for a while but messed the hairpin up so dropped back again. Just tried to concentrate for the whole race on putting the laps in and trying not to drop back too far.

Then realised that i wasnt going to make the finish based on an earlier calc and then saw Steve coming through in 1st so tried to let him through before the line but I just managed to get round the last lap with the display showing 0 litres!

Cant believe that was 40 mins! That was hard work  :sweatdrop:

p.s. hope I didn't take Bara with me :'(

Unfortunately, yep but no worries. I really didn't deserve 2nd place today - I made far too many mistakes on my own.

Had a good start and even challenged for P2 on 2nd lap but outbraked myself and went on the grass and down to P7 I think... and then all my mistakes started! Very tricky track to be consistent on but I liked it - just wish i'd practiced a bit more b4 hand! Had some good battles with spanner and sbg (until he discod!) so a fun race :)

Grats to Steve on a fine win and major unlucky to Dan. Like I say I didn't deserve your place!

Mostly a fun race marred somewhat by
1: Had a good battle in the pipe with SBG until he discoed :-(
2: Had a "misunderstanding" with Racepace one of the times I was lapping him and
got pushed off into the barriers/spun, no serious damage, but it let Bara by without
having the pleasure of fighting him off

I have learned how to get the Aston sort of off the line, still painfully slow
but at least the whole field didn't get past this time! was surprised that I was
able to more or less keep up, and when they were slowing each other fighting,
actually catch Dan and Steve now and then. until we came upon traffic.
Then they made a better job of getting through than I did, and I started to
lose them a bit. passed SBG when he went off early on in hairpin, but he
was matching my pace closely, shame, would have been an excellent battle.

Managed to more or less keep Dan 4 secs in front and Ade? 4 secs behind
for a while, then wow it was lap 40! made some effort to catch Bara
might have gained a bit, but not enough to challenge, Dan went off at hairpin
on the last? lap so I lucked 3rd back.

That was an awesome race Dan, always exciting to battle in such a clean fair way, there were several times I lost momentum you could have had an optimistic look but you're a gent.  You were certainly significantly faster than me early on, at least until my car got looser and I could stay on the gas more, and I think I was about the same pace then. Epic fight, can't believe you ran off on the final corner, cruel luck.  :(

And Martin.  ???  I was cursing at the time, the two laps behind you trying to lap you cost me the small cushion I'd built up over Dan, had him right on my tailpipe for the final few laps instead of being able to drive smoothly to the end.  I must admit to madly flashing my lights which I wouldn't normally do, bad manners.   ;)  But no harm done in the end.

Excellent track for this kind of races.
Started 12th, at first lap before the hairpin i was hit and ended on the left wall, dropped to 22th. :whistling:
Then, was driving like mad to recover places. I want to thank a few drivers that during my recovering from the back, make it more easy for me without trying to hold the place. That was trully kind. :thumbup1:
BTW, for those who make it easy and for the backmarkers which did a good job again, i was pressing
my headlights key to thank you all, but my contact with the wall broke my lamps  :hammer: i could´nt
flash them.
Congrats Steve.  :notworthy:
Well done Baracus and Matt for podium aswell.  ;)

Cheers

Found I was equally good/bad in the Healey, DB4 & F250 here in practice with nothing to choose between them. I reckon that means the admins got it spot on with the car choice here  8) Decided to stick with the Fezza that served me so averagely @Donnington.

Qualifying was tough, mainly due to how long you had to wait sometimes to join the track without impeding cars coming down the home straight, or vice versa.

Started 12th, at first lap before the hairpin i was hit and ended on the left wall, dropped to 22th.
:whistling: Sorry Pribeiro, that was er... me.  :whistling:
I'd managed to get a good start, made up a couple of places off the line & round the 1st bend. I was then tootling along the back straight quite happy. Then approaching the hairpin with the crowds of cars around I wasn't traveling as fast as normal & broke early to be safe. Quickly realised I was going to stop about 100m short of the turn so released my brakes to coast briefly. Reapplied the brakes & the car just didn't stop as I expected. Saw I'd bumped you right off track & with the assistance of someone coming in the back of me I swiftly joined you in the wall. Couldn't see you rejoin so just waited till I was dead last. I was glad to see you worked your way up most of the grid by the end. Sorry once again, I gave myself 10 lashings with a horse whip... & then a drive through as punishment.

Spent the rest of the race doing what I could to catch people with my car damaged front end & back. Had Spadowski in my sights for the last 12 laps or so & was closing the gap with each lap but despite getting right up on him, he just didn't give me the chance to make my move. :'(

Still a good race & met Martin in the pub afterwards for a "couple" of beers to debrief & recover.

Hi Legzy, TBW i didn´t realize it was you, as i was concentrating my eyes on the guys in front (didnt saw the replay yet), but please dont punish yourself with a stop&go next time (if you hitt me again)  ;D
because it was unintentional. I saw you at the back also, but i thought you was hitt also or lost it.
Cheers

And Martin.

Oh my oh my oh my! I'm really sorry Steve.
I was racing Syd Drake for position,in another Red Ferrari a few lap earlier but he had dropped back a bit. I then see what I believe to be Syd again so drove as defensively as possible.
My brain must have been in snail mode cos I couldn't figure out why Syd! ( you ) was flashing!?  I am a complete a$$ !? Was cursing myself big time when i realised, and was very relieved to see the mighty minton had not got past you. Phew!

In the light of day, my team mate Legzy informs me that I have to set something up to tell me I am being lapped!? I have just blissfully been relying on looking back! Rookie mistake after 2 years of racing! Guess I'm just not used to being lapped!

Apologies again Steve

Set off again but was only really racing the lapped cars, and I was having no fun at all so I stopped.

Dave, I was gutted! I was behind you at that stage and was driving as fast as I could to catch you!
Then you just dissappear half way down the straight! Not often i get to race with the old master!  ;)

Well what's the point of standing starts then if everyone is just going to creep off the line 2 seconds after the start? ??? You might as well go back to rolling starts and have some heat in tyres and brakes.

If you can give me some tips on starting faster I will gladly use them! :)

Good relatively clean race. 1 incident submitted.
Slow pace but PB in the race!

Really enjoyed that one!
Track may be narrow etc. but variety is the spice of life!
keep the challenges coming!

Grats to the aliens/podium! ( especially to Steve! Sorry, sorry! )

I get a blue light appear somewhere on my cockpit dials to warn me that I'm about to be lapped. It's always been there, never had to set it up? Maybe you don't race in "cockpit" view.

You're sure about this? Never have seen it while I'll get lapped very often....

.. perhaps I thought it was the fuel indicator  :P

I agree Tony, no need to set anything up. I guess you can turn it off (Martin?), but by default I think we all get a little blue light if we're about to be lapped don't we? I know I see it regularly.

I drive with the HUD enabled...(Sorry everyone :-[)... is that why I see the blue light? (as well as me being slow obviously)

Never seem a blue light but obviously need one desperately! ( Did I say sorry again Steve!  :-[ )

Use the start countdown...dont rely on seeing the lights change
Practice.
Practice.
Practice.
Practice.

and then:

Practice some more.  :)

What lights!  :D

I'm never close enough to see them! I just use the 3....2....1...Go method!
Autoclutch very slowly engages and I spin down the track as usual!

That not the best method then!?  ;D

With auto clutch...I tend to keep the revs at about 3/4 max then engage first as soon as you see the green hear 'GO' then ease back slightly on the revs untill the rears are biting properly before accelerating normally after that.

Exactly what i do, only difference is that i wait for the green lights, to keep the things more close to SIM as possible  ;D

Oi! Less of the "old" or people will think I'm in the wrong team! :wheelchair:

My starting technique is very simple.

"3"
dial up start revs
"2"
clench buttocks
"1"
fingers hover over upshift paddle
*mentally reach 0, slight pause to avoid a jump start*
select first gear and jump past three or four Astons and Fezzas

The "Go" comes up anywhere between 0 and 3 seconds later. I ignore it. :D

I really shouldn't have joined last night. I did about 10 minutes practice to learn the track, and I was completely bushwacked.

This is the one handed start technique as recommended by 6 week old Junior Legzy. It leaves the other hand free to do her hair (as demonstrated) or to send 'hand gestures' to drivers that wont let you lap them  ;D

Oh forgot to say no problem Martin, now I understand why you were racing me.  As I said, at the time when adrenaline is flowing it seems a big deal but it really isn't!

I always drive with the tags on (tab key) so I can see who's who.  So much for realism eh.

Starts should be even quicker if you use manual clutch (think you still can at the start even if you use auto-clutch). I would have thought there's a tenth of a second or so whilst 1st is selected if you wait in neutral?  Not sure. I've always used full manual clutch, map a button on the wheel to clutch, sit in 1st gear, clutch in, hold 2/3-3/4 max revs (depends on engine torque) and at Go let go of the clutch button and try to control the wheelspin.  Or buy a G25 which sounds like it has a clutch pedal!

GTL themed baby clothing Legzy, that's dedication.  ;)

Here's Pops Jr about to get stuck into iRacing, hamming it up for the camera as usual, I keep telling him he'll miss the apex  ::)
