Post by: ginsters sponsored on October 26, 2008, 11:54:37 AM +0000
All members welcome.

Special Notes:
1) There are no start lights, instead there are "authentic" starting marshals who wave a green flag to mark the start of the race.
2) The pole sitter can't see any of these marshalls without using the "look left" feature.

I thought so. Lets let the punters decide :)

What do you gents want to use? I clearly like this match up. Best not to use TC65 or 76 bearing in mind the preceding and following races.

Are there not others of a similiar performance? I can see this being heavily 906 based again!

Underpowered 911, BMW CSL?

SBG, if you're desperate to race the McLaren, would it not be better suited to LeMans? Where it would be easy for McLaren drivers to schedule in a 2nd tyres pitstop if required. I would potentially pick it (M1A) there against the whole GTC-76 class, but personally I didn't understand this 3 car match up at Silverstone & we're doing it again so soon.  ??? :-\

Sorry, just saw you updated while I was.... how about a 914 race? Does it have an equal anywhere?

It will be at Lemans :) I don't just choose what I want you know, it would be Falcon vs Mustangs all season long. Maybe thats an idea for S7 ;)

Snetterton is a very fast track  and, I thought, ideally suited to this mix. I had a real thrill driving the GT40 around there. For me, the only other interesting option is the faster GTC65 cars. I'm open to other ideas, try the track and the best idea wins. 914 is interesting but its in a class of its own as far as I know, a one make race is fine by me  :)

A single car choice may not be the best idea in reality....this will be the last race of the season and could be the championship decider....restricting choice too much will undoubtedly suit 1 driver more than another and could give an unfair advantage.

Having put some thought into a potential match up on this track... it's not easy is it. My only suggestion is any car combination we've not raced this season. Admins :notworthy:

EDIT - Would an Elite/JagMk2/Abarth race work here? That went down well last season somewhere didn't it?

Sounds good to me.

In short,no  Funnily enough I did a race with Abarths, Jags and Minis around here last week and the length of the straights left time for forty winks.

So far, I like my choice (brilliant ::)) and the 914 suggestion. I will see if I can find a match for the 914 but we are still open to ideas.

we are still open to ideas.
Shelby GT350 - v - Renault Alpine   -  The Shelby might just have the edge, but the Alpine will be easier & more consistent.

or

Porka 914 - v - 'Light weight' Cwapi - v - 'Light weight' Pantera   - Seems a good match up with AI drivers

Good question  :)
I left it out because when we raced the 'lower powered' cars at Goodwood, I seem to remember that the Beemer seemed considerably better then the other two (which was confirmed by the number driven on the day). Also, the AI test I did, didn't seem to flag it up as being as even as the other three.

I was not at Silverstone, though I watched the replay. I think the car choice here may be better
than credit is being given, if SIlverstone was a "norm"
I really do not like the 906, The only Porch I lik eis the 914? the little mid engine one.
I don't really like driving any of the rear engine ones, 'cept maybe Abarth, and Renault
I find the 906's engine braking a sure fire spin generator, and always forget about it
until I'm flying off the track.
My own times here in GT40 are the same as 906, with the M1A I'm two secs quicker
(low 32's in M1A, 34's maybe high 33's in 906 /GT40) So seems an obvious choice
But, if the M1A becomes horrid after 20 laps, then the others will catch up again
So far they are all horrible after 20 laps to me. v :-\

I've tried a few of the suggested combos now and, to paraphrase Cloughie, I found out I was right all along :-* The 914, Cwapri and Panty are around the same pace (and near the GT40) but they don't thrill me, the 914 is a nasty beast with some tyre wear. I've tried some GTC combos including the Shelby, Elan etc but after much deliberation I think we should stick with the GT, Mclaren, 906 combo. For me, this has a bit for everyone and should make an exciting season denouement.

If it goes wrong, errr blame Pseudo ;)

Is this event open to everyone as I'm champing for some online action?  I've tried a few pickup races and am impressed by how solid the multiplayer seems to be - one thing though, I've not unlocked all the cars, is there a simple way I can do this other than using one of the cars in the skin pack?

I can see that there may have to be some Hiki Waza painted skins painted ready for the next season  :o

Shame on you Ian, I love the little 914, just a shame it rarely gets used (hint hint for next season   ;))

hi all,
i just registered here.
i know sbg from gbgtl and probably a few others, but i'm no good remembering names (sorry).
can i just appear tonight and take part in this?
not quite sure if my mind or what's left of it grasp the hint with the password at the beginning of the thread.
btw i'm not very fast and crap at starting, so if you think i might turn into a road block and you don't want me to take part, that's ok.

okokok, i just figured out the thing with the password...........
one other question: i use the auto updater from altbierbude to keep update with all the add-ons and stuff, is that enough (apart from your skin-packs) or do you use other addons as well?
i got the m1a and most other cars and i've got the track.

Regarding files, i think we run different files than those at altbierbude so you should probably download the files from this site to prevent any issues. Might be easier if you create a copy of your install.

Hope to see you there.

Chuffed with that ,After 4 years of racing here finally got a champ win under the belt.
Race was quite normal after the first couple of laps, got mugged at the start as i couldnt see the flag but managed to get to the front . Had a spin at the bridge and lost 11 secs to Steve then i think he went off as well.

Usuall thanks to all the moderators and all the drivers ,couldnt do this great league with out you. ;)

Grats to Steve good championship battle mate, and grats to ghost speed on the team champs.

Cheers

This ends my first season here, and I have LOVED IT! You lot all rock, and it's been fantastic.

This is the best league I've ever been in I think.

Thanks everyone!!

And congratulations to Dan.

:jumpjoy: Congrats to Dan on his championship, well done boss!  :D

Had an interesting race with some good scraps with Steve (such awful luck  :'( ) and with Ossie and Dynosaur.

I had an almighty spin at T1 because I changed down early  ::) and was very lucky not to get stuck, but it meant I lost a load of time and went down to 7th.
Enter my old pal the red mist! Clawed my way back up to 3rd and almost caught Geoffers (another 2 laps and I would have been in with a shot).

Still 3rd was very nice, if somewhat fortuitous due to other peoples problems.

Another storming and thoroughly enjoyable season....Congratulations to the organisers on their hard work.  :thumbup1:

Apologies to those around me on 3rd corner of lap 1. Totally missed my braking point and steered into the countryside to avoid those in front but dragged someone, from behind, with me.

Apart from that, twas good that. I am really enjoy being UKGTL's moving road block, did my arse look big in the GT40 ;), and some great strategic fights that result. To be fair, you all worked out how to pass me in the end but hope you had as much fun as me trying working it out. Good to have u back MJ (remember why you enjoy GTL now?  :)).

For me, best thing about S6 has been numbers of newcomers and it was great to see Klose and Wazza for the last race of S6. Also gotta say, driving standards have been way better than S5 all in all. Congrats to Dan and you all  :)

That was a cracking race, 8) my first GTL event in weeks if not months thanks to silly busy life and a severely playing up pc (turned out to be an overheating cpu, throttling back my dram/gfx  ::) )

Qualied a decent 9th with a new pb here and was on an even faster lap in dying minutes but cocked up at the hairpin.

Race was all action from the green flag, with a lot of clean interchanging and position grabbing in the first few corners.
Soon found myself fighting for 5th with Dynosaur ahead and Pribeiro and Ossie chasing me very hard. Had an excellent clean fight for 8 laps or so with Prib, with both of us swapping positions several times until about lap 11 when braking behind him at the hairpin and the car suddenly veered off right into the bank  ??? That allowed Ossie past and we swapped places a few times throughout the race as we both had incidents.
Then i had a long quiete spell until about lap 22 and then for some reason the car started handling terribly in the fast sweeping corners and i went off about 3 times in 2 laps  :( This allowed someone in a Mclaren and Ginsters to catch and past me and i suddenly found myself down in 10th...and not happy!
What followed was a corking battle royale with ginsters in his GT40 for the last 6 laps of the race  :fencing: it was superb!....i was almost standing on my flipping pedals to miss his rear end in that super fast last sector every single lap as i could carry way more speed through the middle of the turn but had no way past his fat yankee butt  ;D
We had several side by side moments through turns 1 - 3 and i eventually got up the inside of him on the penultimate lap and got ahead through those same turns.  :)

Great stuff, really enjoyed that battle and race and bagged 5th fastest race lap so should have finished higher.

Shame i missed all season, congrats to Dan on his well earned championship and commiserations to my team mate Steve  :'(....that means no promotion from Cinzano tea-boy at Legends im afraid  ;)

First, have really enjoyed competing in this group, great people and well thought out races.
This last race was however seriously frustrating!
Qualled 2nd! my best so far, had done some 30 lap+ testing, and knew that although
the M1A got more wobbly, and slower towards the end, I reckoned I would still be
reasonably competitive. Made a half decent start, gave way into T1 to stay safe
repassed on straight, got a better run out of the esses than Geoffers, and had to lift
no worries I'll either get him later or I won't, and oops.. Steve in the better cornering 906
gives my rear a nice little love tap, and I'm suddenly stopped facing the wrong way...
sigh.. had to wait till the whole field had passed before I could safely turn round
managed to pass up to 7th, lost concentration on worn tyres following racepace
into a turn wondering where he would go, spun, dropped to and finished 8th.
Ah well. le mans anyone?

Congratulations Dan for your deserved championship win.  :thumbup2:
Congrats also for Ghostspeed team win.  :jumpjoy:
A huge thank you for the organizers and all work you did.  :notworthy:
And finally but not least, thanks to all drivers and the outstanding behavior and driving.  ;)

After my 11th qualify place, i was expecting not much to be honest.
Had a awfull start, dropped 5 places.  :scared: but things went well after, had a fun batlle
with Mark (welcome back)  :) and with Ossie for the first 10 laps always with Dynossaur at sight.
I believe that a lost braking point made a driver hit my rear end and i spun, loosing 3 positions.
From then, monumental effort to get back the 5th place, but last 8 laps very alone. However, it was
a cool and fun race as usual.

waiting for next season(can we have the cars that noone choose, please?  :scooter:

Cheers  ;)

Didn't catch the results properly last night, massive congrats to Dyno! Awesome finish to the season in a really tough car. Same to Geoffers, anyone in the M1's deserves maximum respect, they don't like to be interrupted mid corner and that's something you have to deal with a lot around here with spinners etc. Grats Madd too, good recovery and chuffed for Spadders, great ending to the first season for the new greeny additions - this time next year/ season  ;D

Looks like I saved all my season incidents for the last round - I owe another apology, this one to Martin. Really sorry bud, would never take you out intentionally, went to get my nose ahead under braking and the gap just disappeared. I didn't realise you'd flipped, hoped you'd managed to continue while I was on the grass but seeing the replay it was a lot worse. Really sorry as you were running well.

Nice to see ya back MJ and thanks as always organising ones, my favourite season to date - cheers for trying something new with that, think it's safe to say the national championship idea was a big success.

After that I'm actually looking forward to Le Mans - normally a bogey track!  :turned:

Congratulations Dan, was a well fought and enjoyable championship.

Not to knock your achievement, but I still feel cheated and annoyed about last night, even more so after a crappy nights sleep immensely wound up about it.   >:(

You have had the lead and a very good chance of stroking it home for the championship but to be knocked off, then spoil someone else's race, then have another lesser chance of taking the win and spin out taking evasive action, that was not how I wanted the showdown to go.  So I miss out again, after last season when a power cut while leading at Goodwood denied me the championship.

Did my usual only qualifying a fraction quicker than my race pace trick (how Dan and some other go soooo quick in qually I don't know  :)) so started 5th. Perfect start launched straight past Dan and Madd and had to lift to avoid the McLarens, but they ran a little wide at T1 and I could just dive down the inside and carry a massive lead onto the straight.  Knew that I basically had it in the bag at that point, with Dan in 4th or so, he'd be a bit quicker in the middle of the race and then I'd be quicker at the end, that's the usual pattern I've observed with me using the tyres less.  With the Mclarens between I was confident of hanging on.

Could see Geoffers closing but still way too far back so instead of staring at my mirrors I concentrated on perfect braking, nailing the hairpin apex and a good exit, reached the apex and *bang* was knocked off to the outside of the track.   >:(  Not what I expected when I'm racing for the championship, a divebombing.  I know it was unintentional, you're a clean fair racer, but I simply couldn't believe it.  Fell to 4th.

Then immediately I had the slowing Matt Rowe through the esses, at that point with Dan taking advantage of the hairpin incident to grab the lead and me needing to finish one place ahead of him, I just had to go for it, if I'd braked I'd have been swamped down the s/f straight by several cars.  So I tried to duck down the inside line but yes, I touched you Matt, for that I'm very sorry, any other race I would have stopped and waited.  :-[

Lost my composure then and thought about jacking it in, so lost any rhythm then I was caught up in close fighting with Madd, which was excellent stuff, but not what I needed to close the gap up to Dan, or at least try to hold it stable.  Finally pulled a gap then I saw Madd make a mistake and started reeling in Geoffers, lost some time behind him having to brake at points where the McLaren was slow while the 906 would be full throttle, he made a mistake and I found I had a 14 second gap to Dan.

Began to eat away at that and then Dan had his mistake and I was 3.7s behind, couldn't believe I had another opportunity with 5 or 6 laps left, and at that point I'm certain I was quicker, I was running my quickest portion of the race, found where I could get on the gas earlier etc.  Think I got to within 2s then came round the hairpin and Oily was going slowly just where I was headed (not your fault though) so to try and maintain momentum I kept on the gas and tried to steer inside him, was too much input for the car to take and it pirouetted off onto the inside bank where I couldn't get the thing moving.  My only mistake of the whole flipping race (apart from tagging Matt Rowe).

Sorry for the long report, had a lot to get off my chest.  >:(

So ends another great season, many thanks to Ian and Bob for putting it all together  :thumbup1: (even if I'm left immensely frustrated by the ending!).

Firstly, sorry to Steve for the bump at the hairpin on the first lap :(. I wasn't trying to get past, I knew I was too far back for that, I braked at my normal point & was amazed that I still gained on you into the corner, I was sure the 906 was much better on the brakes than the McLaren. Also I didn't realise at the time that I had bumped you off the track, otherwise I would have waited, it didn't appear a very big bump from my point of view. So very sorry for that & messing up your shot at the championship.

The rest of the race went quite well, made a couple of mistakes early on which let Dan quickly get on my tail & past into the lead. Managed to hold a gap to Steve & Madd for a several laps until the tyres started to go off a bit. Eventually Steve caught up & when I missed my braking point at the esses & went off the track it handed him 2nd. Had settled for 3rd until Steve had an off & gave me 2nd back. Struggled for grip the last few laps & just held on to 2nd from a fast closing Madd.

Congrats to Dan on the win & the title & apologies to the 906s for holding you up in the corners.

Also thanks to Pseudo & SBG for organising, its been great racing here.

Cya at Le Mans

Surprised they didn't find you hanging from a noose at the back of the pits after that one Steve!!!

Pretty much was at that point last night...... :P

Sorry for being a sore loser, I'd actually said to the missus before booting the PC that I didn't expect to win the champ and I was quite happy about that, no disgrace to be outpaced by Dan here and follow him home.

Just the surprise to find I did have the racepace, the unbelievable situation to get into the position I needed and then have it taken away made it sheer hell.

Yeah, I wasn't braking terribly late Geoffers as I had a large enough gap not to need to (I thought) and on lap 1 my focus is always on maximising corner exit, not late braking and risking missing the apex. Oh well, next season.....I'll probably end up over-driving.  :-\

Firstly a big thanks to Psuedo and SBG for a great championship cheers, and to all that took part.

Well what a race  :o more like Snotterton for me (suffering with the man flu) forgot to take of my woolly jumper off before the race so had snot and sweat pouring out of me by lap 5 .
Thought i had got away with the usual first few corners  mayhem when SBG potted me at the third  :o

later on mistakes started creeping in  :-[ forgetting to give it a boot full of throttle changing down and found myself on the wrong side of the gypsy stoppers ???
managed a few times to get back up the field and caught SBG waiting for him to make a mistake and he did at the hairpin and slid a little wide so i took my chance and got through (think i gave you a little love tap on you front wing as you tried to sort yourself out) kept myself in front for a good while the threw myself over a mound again :-[ thanks to Legzy for letting me back through when i was trying to get back up the field :euro:.
Later on in the race i saw Mr Oily stuck nose high on one of the mounds and decided to help him out but he managed to get himself unstuck  :D
Thanks again for a great season, roll on the next one :thumbup2:
Well done Dan, Steve and baracus for the podiums  :notworthy: and everyone else for making my Thursday evenings so much fun.

                                             Cheers Ade

decided to help him out

Hahaha cheers dude, didn't realise that was deliberate but was glad of the company! Spent quite a lot of time parked up on those ridges throughout the course of the race. Thought we might have a little light entertainment for a few laps once we got going but by that point i'd lost the plot - decided to brake 10 metres later than I knew was possible in a bid to steal that prestigious 18th spot from you!

Having all been there, to a lesser or greater extent, I think we all sympathise with you Steve. I am sure those involved feel as badly as you do. We have a fun event in 2 weeks time that be just what you need. How does a figure of 8 mash up sound to you  :) We will are also working hard on S7 so the start of that should ease your pain soon. Erm, 3rd time lucky mate :-X

Also congrats to Ghostspeed for their team title. Hope thats some consolation to Bara who has had more than his fair share of bad luck this season.

Qually was a nightmare! Had a screaming baby Legzy doing her nut in all through practice & didn't get on track till 9 mins to go in qually. In 9 minutes I managed to bump or ruin a couple of peoples laps (sorry) & throw my car off track countless times & damaging it in the process. Only managed to complete two laps & found myself 18th on the grid.
Did nothing special off the line, but seemed to have a lucky run down the inside of the 1st few bends & was donated about 12th spot. As I went round T1 of lap two, more people had gone off & I was up to 9th :o & managed to hold onto that for about 12 laps doing slow 1:34's till SBG & Ade caught up (at about 2 secs a lap!). I let them both through as I knew they were so much quicker. But having them to follow instantly knocked 2 secs a lap of my time & it was quite funny cause i remember thinking that SBG's GT40 fat butt was now slowing me down.  ;) But he managed to eek out a little gap & my pace just dropped again.
Spent the rest of the race on my own really, except for keeping an eye on the catching spadowski with every lap. I could see Minton coming right up behind with only a few turns to go to finish his race, thinking he'd lap me & 11th spot was safe  :) he dropped back & let spadowski through too!!!!!!!!! :o :'( ;)
So I had brown pants time for the last lap as I managed to just cling on to a totally unearned 11th spot.

Great 1st season's racing for me, thanks to SBG & Psuedo for your efforts. Much appreciated. Thanks to all the other drivers who keep turning up each week, without you there'd be nobody to race  :)

NOTE- Oh & well done to 'Team Oldie' for managing to finish 6th overall, with a regular string of average results  :D

Just want to say thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this season from the mods and to everyone for turning up and making it a huge success.

Well i wasnt planning on doing the whole season but i kinda got caught up in it all after realising i was doing quite well, kinda wish i hadnt missed the first race now :( But after the high's early on it and aiming to get into the top ten in the standings it degenerated into two DNF's which has kinda deflated me a bit. But good planning(!) has meant as some of the team falter and struggle to keep it up ;) the new recruits have stepped up admirably. Think we can all be proud of the teams standing, world domination here we come :tank:

Congratulations Mr Minton! Great driving all season and enjoyed battling you on track!

Well, seeing as you were having sooo much fun though I would leave you to it! :D

Actually, really sorry to have missed out on the 3-way showdown but my timing went to pot on Thursday - we went food shopping at Tesco, big mistake. Didn't realise it was gonna be so busy so we didn't get back in time for me to get on :(
Oh well that just rounds off my luck for the season I suppose.

Unlucky Steve - close run thing all season though at most circuits.... good stuff!

Huge thanks to Psuedo, SBG and all participants for their time and efforts to make this what it is.

P.S. - Yes thanks SBG the team trophy is certainly a nice consolation but that's largely down to PR's consistency and dogged determination! It's been a bloomin' frustrating season for me!!

@ PR - see, I told you our plan to use stock cars would work ;)
I'm sure all that extra paint weighs them all down :p

...got mugged at the start as i couldnt see the flag...

Missed that, well good thing it didn't matter in the end, would have been rubbish to have that cost you the championship.  Looks like you had it covered at the end of the race too, I missed the pitboard the lap you did your fastest lap and the gap went up a bit.  :)

Hope you can be free of technical (and shopping) issues next year Bara and really go for the champ.

I've just caught the replay and i'm sorry about my frozen car causing problems at the start.

As an aside, anybody know why the cars seem to jump when stationary in the replays?
