Title: UKGPL Season 16 (2008) Novice \'65 - Rouen - Nov 18
Post by: Jack O'Ferrall on November 12, 2008, 10:26:02 PM +0000
UKGPL Season 16 - Novices and Amateurs - Race 6 - 65 mod - Rouen

The Lotus cars are on top of the Amateurs table at present, and Rouen should allow them an opportunity to extend their lead.  However, after this the only ultra-fast circuit is the last race at Monza.  Should there be enough entries to have two divisions next season the top division will be restructured and there may well be fewer power tracks- and fewer Coopers.  The continued absence of Asbjeurn has allowed Sam to build a lead in the Novices, though I'd hope that the top Ferraris would be back soon, and Steve's BT11 may also offer competition.   I'm not sure what's happened to Karlisss.  Jon has had wheel problems and Tom is also doubtful, though he might be able to return after Xmas.  However, there are also a few new faces, and Geoff has asked to join the slower field.  I'd expect there to be separate grids at Rouen.

There has been another request for improved aero for the 65s- the RSC thread is here:  http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=329607 (http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=329607)
While some consider the 66 tow excessive, the slower top speeds of the 65s would reduce this problem to a large extent.  Also, the current 65 model isn't that of the original cars as it was impossible to make it work- the crude solution was to increase top speeds 5%.  The 65s with tow might be fantastic racing- and of course the existing 65s would still be an option.

65 Mod

These were the 65 drivers
BT7 Bonnier, Baghetti, Hulme (Bonnier drove for Walker)
BT11 Brabham Gurney Gardner Anderson Siffert (Siffert drove for Walker, Gardner and Anderson were privateers)
Lotus Clark Spence Rodriguez Mitter Russo Solana (and Maggs Hailwood Attwood Amon and Ireland for Parnell)
Ferrari Surtees Bandini Rodriguez Vaccarella Bondurant Scarfiotti
Honda Ginther Bucknum
Cooper McLaren Rindt
BRM Hill Stewart

The 1965 season was the last to use the controversial 1500cc formula which had begun after 1960, to the initial advantage of Ferrari.  The 1965 cars are smaller than the 1967 cars and have less torque and hence more grip.  It was claimed that they 'cornered on rails', however this allowed the Grand Prix series to retain the use of circuits which were otherwise to prove extremely dangerous.

The 1965 cars are ideal for those new to GPL as they allow the tracks to be learnt in light reliable cars, however these are also full Formula One cars, and quite fast....  The 1965 French Grand Prix was held at the Clermont-Ferrand circuit, the French GP was next held at Rouen in 1968.  I've used Rouen this season because it might be more familiar to beginners, as one of the original tracks.  Next season we'll probably use Clermont- it isn't as hard as it might seem at first.

David Wright's 'Legends' site http://fp.gplegends.plus.com/ has the download of the most recent 2.0.1 version (under 'details') as well as being an exceptional guide to both 1965 and 1967, for those interested in Formula One history.

Unfortunately the current 65 mod download does not have default setups.  Default setups for all the cars and tracks that are likely to be used can be downloaded from http://www.neurology-crew.com/gplserver under '65 setups'.  Note that you will have to add enough fuel for the race, whether short or long!

Eh?  Was it just a chance to make yet another oblique beach reference?  East London or Imola might be better options, though you'd still need to make the top gears taller.  Your previous Mexico setup, for hairpins and long straights, might also be good.

I have a Rouen base setup for all the cars if anyone wants one, it just hasn't been transferred to the site.

The tracks I prepared setups for are simpler tracks, which also tend to favour the fast cars.  How about Adelaide or Jarama as a replacement for one of the remaining power circuits next season, after I switch Clermont for Rouen?  Adelaide is a 'could have been' circuit with the modern layout and a 67 atmosphere, while Jarama is almost as historically valid as Mosport.  There's also Vallelunga, though it hasn't got much width.

I'm told, but dunno if its true, that the 65 mod isn't that much sensative to set up changes as the other mods.

So, as long as the gearbox is optimised for Rouen , Zandy would (might) work , the reasoning being a fairly long straight and a mix of high speed / low speed corners,  plus a hairpin and hard braking from high speed into said hairpin  ;D

I could of coarse be completeley out of kilter  ::)

I'm no expert but I tried my Spa chassis setup at Rouen and it was far too lively for me. Perhaps other mods are more sensitive but the 65s definitely need setting up properly.

Think I used the base Clermont setup and edited that when I tried Rouen in the 65's  :)
To be fair I've used that as a base for an awefull lot of tracks though!
Think Mosport is my only scratch built setup, most of my races this season used modified versions of that  ;D

Re tracks: If you pick 'em I'll race them Jack  :thumbup1:
The only one from your selection I've driven previously is Adelade, but that doesn't bother me.

Looking forward to Rouen as I actually really enjoy the circuit  8)

I’m finding that setup does make quite a difference to the car. I’m still very new to all this, and at first I really didn’t think it mattered too much, that’s until I tried Nicky’s setup for Watkins. It made a huge difference, corners that I was having problems with suddenly where fine, I could turn the car in where I wanted and the back followed instead of having to fight it.

At Rouen my first attempt at a setup was far too tail happy, I just couldn’t get rid of it either, no matter what I tried. In the end I downloaded a 67 setup and used that as a template. It made the car much easier to drive, and meant that I could get the power down much earlier in the corners. Straight away my lap times drop by 2 seconds.

Like I said before, I’m still very new to GPL, so it could be just me learning the sim, and my perceptions of changes are just really me making driving changes rather than the car behaving differently. But it’s working for me at the moment :)

I have posted a zip file here that has a collection of setups by Guru.

I find them quite friendly Alastair.  Cant match Evil's Cooper yet but in the 2:07s with the BT7.  Yes Evil,  the wide one.

Paul Jackson and Steve Cloyd both have Rouen setups and I expect the latter comes with a lap to look at and feed through the analyser.

As one numpty to another, it is one of the original papy tracks.  It comes on the disc with the sim.

I'm not familiar with the demo and what that has on it but if that is the problem then I would expect to find the download here:-

http://gpltd.bcsims.com/

Trouble is that the "Get track" link just takes you to a place to buy the game that is currently out of stock.  Hmmm....?  Not helpful.

You need a copy of the game to have Rouen available.

If I didn't already have the big box version I'd be tempted by this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GRAND-PRIX-LEGENDS-rare-BIG-box_W0QQitemZ310087216087QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS?hash=item310087216087&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1297%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GRAND-PRIX-LEGENDS-rare-BIG-box_W0QQitemZ310087216087QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS?hash=item310087216087&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1297%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318)

There is an option with Rouen historic to have the wider pits, use that.  If you use the proper pits you won't be able to join.

Ive added a couple of laps that I have done with the Guru setups, one in the Ferrari and one in the BT11.  I have my doubts about the gearbox strategy in the Ferrari.  The aliens might like it but I think that I prefer the BT11 approach.

 ;D

I started as early as I saw Grand Prix Circuit from Accolade I think, around 1990. Though I liked playing car games even before that in my childhood, that was the first "proper" title I put my hands on. Also Test Drive by the same company. Classic!  :)

GP2 is my all time fav modern f1 sim though, I played it so much it's scary. There are so many mods and things made from fans for it it's fascinating. There used to be a program that'd record the time you spend in-game and sum it up on game exit, so the counter kept increasing everytime you'd play.
I bought the game in 96. Played it extensively until 2003 or so. I used that time counter program just in the last years, but I just for an evidence - somewhere around 1999-2001, for just over an year, I had 2 months of in-game time. In other words out of 14 or so months I spent 2 full months in GP2.  :o Can't begin to imagine how much time of my life I spent overall in that brilliant sim... scary!  :-[

One question about stop and go rules: Yesterday I had a go at Rouen (yes, guys, I'm finally back online), and spun just after a turn. The driver behind me had no chance of avoiding me and crashed into me, so I had to shift-r. Maybe he also needed a shift-r, I don't know, but that's not the point. Since I was the cause of both the crash and my shift-r, I took a stop and go, just to make sure, but I'm not sure if I needed to.

The race password should be at the top of the thread.. its usually available 24 hours before a race.  I have got two servers confirmed- thanks for the offer though Pete.

Asbjeurn, in your example, if you hadn't damaged the car yourself you would be allowed a free reset.  If the driver behind you had no warning or yellow flag, so would he.

Legzy, even if you're not confident no-one will be upset if you have a go!

Thanks, Jack.

At last, after a lot of work, I finally got to clear a spot in the new apartment for my cockpit. Sadly we don't have as much space now as we had in the house we were renting before, so I had to let go of the comfy armchair I sat in before:

(http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/4437/dscf0620st6.th.jpg) (http://img443.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscf0620st6.jpg)

and swap it with a garden chair:

(http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/1425/cockpitnov2008dw8.th.jpg) (http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cockpitnov2008dw8.jpg)(http://img91.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif) (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)

I've just tested it for a short five-lap race, and my bottom didn't feel to well after that, so I'm not sure if I will stand the distance of a whole race. Possibly my legs will fall asleep before halfway.

First race in GPl !
Really enjoyed it but I think only having had the sim for 3 days and not knowing half the commands etc. was not the bet plan!
Qualified 9th with a PB, 2.09 something!
Good start but had this nagging feeling I
Hadn't loaded enough fuel!? Thought I may have had only 5 laps! not knowing the sim I entered the pits after 5 laps just in case there was a fill option! Obviously not! lol I learn!  :D
So carried on, had a few minor moments but a few laps from the end, seemed to get stuck on the tyres at the hairpin and retired!
Would shift R have helped me there? Is there anyway to get off!?
Dissapointing to not finish at all  :'(

Good fun though! I'll be back!  ;)

Yes Shift R is the only way off the tyres, as it sounds like you did a stop/go before the tyre got you i wonder if you needed to do one at all .? If you shift R ed of course , would be good to know if i have that trouble.
I was not sure after my shift R if i had to pit so did anyway think that may have saved a penalty .
Good race for me to 5th much better than i expected . My only error was endng upside down on the back stretch mid race, you know wheel on the grass and round it goes lol.

PB'ed in the qualy and got second spot on the grid, behind Sam.

Start was OK, tucked in behind Sam and tried to keep up with him, but had a few bad exits, so he got a few seconds gap. During the fight I remembered I had forgotten to fill the tank, so I had only five laps worth of fuel. So then I shift-r'ed and stop and go'ed (stop and went?) down the field. Only just managed to catch a few cars, but had to shift-r before I could start a real fight, so it wasn't one of my greatest nights, to be honest. Ended up eighth, which was okay, after all. At least my behind didn't protest too much, so the garden chair isn't that bad. :)

I qualified 5th with a PB and made a place at the start then threw it away at the bottom of the hill by catching the polos.

Made a few places then got on to the back of norbert for a few laps. I was quicker than him down the hill and caught him there but my honda didn't have the guts to pass him on the climb or the straight. One time he got off the track and I had to lift and turn to avoid him coming back on. As is customary that scared me into a spin and I lost sight of him.

The rest of the race was quiet apart from getting passed by the other Honda towards the end when I had another go at the polos.

Good fun at a great track. Great to some more new faces.

Replay and reports here.

It was refreshing to taste the champagne again at Rouen after a few lacklustre performances. Quali went rather well but I really had to go for it to beat Asbjeurn for Pole. My start was reasonable and had to fight off a hard charging Ferrari of Asbjeurn for a couple of laps but he had a few issues of his own which left me to drive my own race. No major mistakes on my part, even if I selected the wrong gear occasionally which over revved the engine but the 65 engines tend to be bulletproof. (If only the H16 could be the same )

Full congrats to all the Novices who each drove superb races; I look forward to Silverstone.

Congrats to Sam and the other podium finishers...
Started last and finished last so sounds strange but I had a great race. Had a really consistent race and my times are slowly coming down, feel I am beginning to make progress - only got lapped once by the leaders as opposed to four times a while back...  The new PC (old one finally died) gave me a perfect online connection so no more computer excuses  ;)
Only three things of note;
1) Someone took a spin in front of me early on and couldn't avoid them. Carried on but my revs wouldn't go above 6,000 so pulled over and did a Shift/R. Take it this doesn't carry a stop and go?
2) Steve (Busa) took a spin in front of me so decided had no choice but to overtake then let him past when he was up to speed (he was faster). Had a coming together when I got past - guess one of those things...
3) 3 laps from the end my screen faded - could hear the car crashing and was about to hit ESC (in case I was on track) when screen came back on. Was on bank so re-entered race and got to the finish. Think it's because my monitor isn't too compatible with PC (something to do with VGA monitor -DVI input). When I get the cash will get a new one.
Anyway see you all at the next one - and thanks to Mike for hosting...

In the Novices you can do a shift R to reset the car.  The general rules governing shift R's are published here (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/sporting) and the specific rules for the Novices are published here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=193&theme=6).

1) Someone took a spin in front of me early on and couldn't avoid them. Carried on but my revs wouldn't go above 6,000 so pulled over and did a Shift/R. Take it this doesn't carry a stop and go?
....

V V,
1) I think that was me, over driving the car and a badly timed touch of lag had me spin on the exit of Sanson.  I ended up across the track so probably little you could have done to avoid me.  I'll put it in the incident report, so the mod will look at it.

3) Check you have no power save functions enabled on your monitor.  I have had, and have heard of many others getting a black screen only to find the screen saver was trying to cut in.  Just a thought.

I was having some problems with my home phone line and incoming calls, not affecting the internet but was busy trying to get that sorted which left me joining late with about 3 or 4 minutes to go.  When I got on track, pribluda was corrupt so had to leave and join again to ensure it was ok for the race.  Had about a minute left to just check everything was ok but not enough to put a lap in, so ended up at the back of the grid.

Due mostly to peoples misfortune I recovered back to 7th so could have been worse.  Grats to Sam and the podium and a good drive from all others that finished.  Nice to see some more new names.

At last a clean race for me, I’m so happy that I didn’t get involved in anything silly.

Quite a quiet race for me, qualifying went as well as it could off, I pretty much matched my best times and there was no way I could have been faster than the guys in front. I was quite happy with my position. My ADSL dropped out with 5 minutes to go, so I had to quickly reset it and get back online fast. I made it and the server remembered my times.

Thankfully my race was quite quiet, the start was good, there is a Honda with rockets attached, it shot past quite a few of us. Must practice my starts, as he got quite a good advantage. After that I was pretty much by myself, I was following Clutch, who was very slowly pulling away from me, and I was being followed by someone who I was slowly pulling away from. My only real moment came on lap 6 when Asbjeurn Tverberg first pitted, he said he was pitting, and I was busy reading what he said rather than driving my car :) Silly me. I learnt my lesson next time. The only other thing I remember is a lap later when Asbjeurn Tverberg was flying, he got me easily on the pit straight, but braked too late and off line into the first corner and lost it. That scared me a bit, to see a Ferrari go flying across just in front of me. Due to some people in front having a few problems I ended up 4th, which I was pleased with, and certainly more than I expected.

Silverstone next for us all, and it’s the one track that I’ve tried which I just can’t get right. We all have our less well liked tracks, and I think mines Silverstone. I will get down to some practice and see if I can get a flow going.

Well done to Same, Geoff and Clutch, some great racing was had last night, and it’s great to see some new faces, wish they were slower :)

First of all big hand to Hristo on outstanding pole and win of the race !!
Definitely class of his own .
Congratulation to Natan on 2nd  and Tim on 3rd.
As I havnt saved replay ( as usual forgotten ) I am not sure who went out on 5th place , but guess it must had have been John . Unlucky one coz fighting for 2nd I think.

And of course congratulations goes to podium ones of Novices race and to all driver taken part at Rouen .

Well , qualy was pretty  thrilling to me , very close between 2nd down to 5th .
As for the race  , I was focused to save 4th , still knowing I`m too slow under race conditions for going any higher . After John was hidden by bad luck  , I could dream of podium for a couple of seconds .
But Tim  makes me realized very soon ; that he`s much faster . and after two laps of protecting , he cached me up and went away. Very well done !
Well , in the end I managed a lucky 4th I`m extreme pleases with .

Thx all for an nice race
See ya al at silver

Regards

Well, what can I say. Sam drove a cracker of a race and soundly spanked us all. My Quals were less than satisfactory with a bit of traffic about. But, when I had clear track.....I'd spin it or do something else stupid to screw the pooch. Qualified 7th over a second and a half shy of my best at Rouen.

Got a fair start, just too much wheelspin to get a feal flyer. Held it all together on lap 1, avoiding the spinners at the hairpin, to find myself 3rd at the start of lap 3 after Clutch missed his braking mark into Sciere and allowed me to slip thru. ;D

Sam and Asbjeurn had bolted in front so I got my head down and tried to run some fast laps hoping to apply some pressure and force a mistake. I could hear and see Clutchs' Brabham near behind at the slow corners, so i had to be consistent with no major mistakes. I was chasing a surprisingly inconsistent Asbjeurn, and catching him a few tenths at a time, when I then inherited 2nd from him around lap5 as he stopped a little up the hill from Nouveau Monde. 5 laps of fuel only, I believe was the problem.   :-\

From then on it was just a matter of driving smooth and driving the pitboard, maintaining a gap over Clutch or pushing again when he got a bit close.
All the backmarkers we lapped were brilliant, moving over well in advance and not retarding anybody's progress at all. Thanks guys, well done.  :balloon:
Clutch eased the pressure on me by having a little spin about lap15......from then on it was a cruise to the finish.  ;D

I always heed the JM Fangio advice, that races should be won at the slowest possible speed. Really enjoyed this race the car was a treat to drive and the company excellent.
Congrat's Sam on another win, and is that a podium in your 1st drive back in GPL Clutch?..:) Excellent work mate. Welcome to all the newcomers, hope you enjoy racing with us at UKGPL.
Geoff.

I think that may have been me Alistair. No rockets attached here.........honest! ;D
I raced GP250's for many years.....I learned a bit about starts in that time, still didn't get many right though........lol
Check out my start from the cockpit view in the replay, and burn out a few old clutches practicing. It's worth the time spent. cheers mate

Not sure what the other Honda did at the start but it could have been me as I made a place right away before stopping to taste the polos at the chicane.

I made a place off the line at Spa too.

Standard procedure is hold the brake on, give the engine an opponent scaring rev, hold the clutch button in, drop it in first, when the flag goes up get off the brake, (unless at Spa where you'll roll) get the revs up, then as soon as the starter's arm twitches let go of the clutch button and control any ensuing slide and wheelspin.

Thanks to Mike for hosting.  The results are missing Martin for some unknown reason, hopefully it can be put right, in the meantime the Novices should make any race reports.

Vlad, if your car was badly damaged after an unavoidable collision with a car out of control you are entitled to a free reset, and if you suspect you are you should always omit the stop-and-go.

Well that was my first 'proper' race online. Really enjoyed it and to get a 3rd was amazing, it can only go downhill from now on. I was driving within myself to an extent but stayed close to Geoff65 in 2nd for most of the race. We were within 1 to 3 seconds of each other for most of the race and kept pushing each other on. I kept trying to put Geoff's Honda under pressure by closing in, and at times i could see him getting a bit loose, but then he'd push and i'd get loose trying to close the gap to 1 second again. However, i cracked first by grabbing a gearbox full of Neutrals on the first left hander of the lap, around 4 laps from the end. This gave Geoff a cushion, so i backed off for 3rd after that.

I have never continually raced anythihing near to a 40minute race in GPL before. I am not exagerting, but that is the hardest thing i have done in GPL after owning it for 10months. To match Geoff's lap times and know that i couldn't make a single error whilst trying to stay on his tail for 14+ laps took a lot of concentration. The set up i had to do that, was quite a twitchy one, so it made for an entertaining race.

Backmarkers.. well done. Everyone got out of the way, and i was particularly impressed with one i guy i caught at the hairpin. I feared the worst as i braked down into the apex, but the guy gave me plently of room and pulled right over.

As i'm guessing this was a lucky start, i'm sure i'll be bringing up the rear next time.

Good fun

Do Legzy, Blunder or Ginsters have GPLRank accounts that could be added to the UKGPL2008 list?

This will enable you to easily see times that are being uploaded by your fellow competitors in UKGPL.

I'm curious as to why I've been given 'blatant bad rejoin' in the report.

I simply span and hit the fence, the car then bounced back onto track.  No 'rejoin' was attempted.

??

Did you send a report Steve; so that you could explain what you were up to?

Also did you have your foot clamped on the brakes to minimise the chances of your making it back to the grey bit?

I've been campaigning for some joined up thinking on the schedules that would allow people to part in GPL and GTR2.  I guess the same is true for GTL.

My GTR2 activity is curtailed at the minute as I have realised that I am suffering fps problems.

Yep, sent a report.  Can't really remember what I was doing with the brake but probably not, in hope of trying to correct the slide but just ended up in the wrong place.

Not to worry, I don't think I could have done anything differently.  Just sorry for Vlad who ended up having a car in his path.

I am neither quick nor out of place in the novices ask my own league drivers, i just had a good run while others made mistakes , it wont happen too often i can assure you.

I was hoping i had found somewhere that i could at least compete instead of trailing round at the back .

Post by: Jack O'Ferrall on November 27, 2008, 06:46:11 PM +0000
Steve, if you have a look at the replay, after you came back off the fence you were at about 15 mph with your back wheels still on the grass.  Vlad was approaching at 85 mph and still had the other half of the track to aim at.  If you'd braked hard you'd have stopped and Vlad would have made it through.  Though your car was pointing across the track your wheels were in the right direction- however, when you touched the throttle, you ended up going off at 90 degrees into Vlad.

Even if you had got grip from both tyres you would have been in front of Vlad at about 20mph, and Vlad hasn't enough time to switch lanes.  However the point is that you should brake to a stop from that sort of accident when you know there are cars behind you, and at pro level you would need to, as there's no chance for the car behind to have a free reset.  It might only be a touch on the throttle, but the few yards that you move are all that the car behind you has to aim for.  You have to counter the instinct to be back on the throttle.

Pete, what I meant was that if I consider that you, Geoff or other experienced drivers who prefer the Novices are becoming too fast I'll ask you to drop cars rather than you having to move up the the Amateurs.  I'd rather you drive your Hondas without being worried about being moved up a division.  The tracks we have coming up will reward experience over faster cars, also the division may be slower next season as the faster drivers move up.  You seemed to make an unnecessary pit stop at Rouen- I might have missed something, or was it wheel trouble or bum ache?

Okay- the sng rules for the Novices on a Novices-only grid are that you take a sng as soon as you can for any reset, unless due to a collision where you're not responsible.  I tend to ignore needed sngs if drivers are lapped, and for Novices on the Amateurs grid when they run together.  If in doubt don't sng.

I wouldn't ask anyone to change chassis without a few drives first, I'm happy that you're enjoying it.

I should have not S/G i would have been one place better off , but thats an IF and i know IFs dont mean nought lol.

I saw so many pitting i assumed i had to, and anyway i dont want to get in the way of title contenders if i can.

If i am proving to quick i will change car by my own choice , but only if i win outright .

We did a Cooper spec 65 race at Rouen before that race so i would have been about the same pace within a second , but i had more offs lol.

If the rate of joinup continues......we may even need a 3rd, Intermediate class in 65's.
Take the bottom 5 finishers in Novice to form the Nucleus of the Novice class. Then take the last 5 from Amateurs and insert them in the Intermediate Category, with the top 10-13 being the Pro racers......This system should bring the cream to the top. It will draw racers to UKGPL if it works well.
Worth a thought mate

Open for discusssion by all means.

You were right to pit Pete, and you should have done so on that lap.  It seems that most of the resets didn't show up on the mechanical report for some reason, I'll make sure to check using the detailed race report next time.

Three divisions would be good, one for fast drivers, one for slower drivers and another for online novices.  The more divisions the better the races.  However we'd probably need the combined resources of two or more leagues to achieve that.

Thanks for offering to change Geoff, I'm happy as it is for Silverstone.  You were faster than me at Rouen, maybe I should change leagues with Sam?  It seems fairer to allow online beginners at least one full season in the Novices though.  Pro might catch them out the following season, if they haven't used reliable setups or gear changes!
