Notes:
  • Please make sure you are fully aware of the UKGTR Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3349.0) - especially the speed limiter rolling starting procedure and the rules about in-game chat messages.
  • You will not be able to join the server without v2.8.9.1 of the UKGTR car pack (see download link above).
You will not see skins correctly without the optional, matching GT1 skins pack.
  • Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of everyone's connection will be reduced.
  • Please use the Driver Details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=profile;sa=driver_info) page to ensure that the league management software has your correct GTR2 'Driving Name' (not necessarily the same as your lobby name).

Bloody cheek. Look how I did round Brno in it! If we both take it, Jeff will lap me!
Dunno what to take yet. GT or Aston or Lambo I think.

I'm planning on racing. One question though. Can I try different cars through out the pre season races? Or do I have to race the season itself with the car I race in this race?

Race what you want preseason... then when the season starts, pick a car to last the whole season  :)

Hi guys I would like to participate in this race if possible. :)

I just had a few questions.
Do I need to use that file that unlocks all the tracks?

Next question I have is which car is the easiest/hardest to drive and which one is the fastest/slowest car?

Sorry for all the questions and I know I could just try them all out and figure it out myself but I havn't raced an ISI engine game since the F1 Challenge days. I'll need all the practice I can get to even keep up with anyone for the duration of the race. :D

Any help/advice is much appreciated
Thank you :)

It will make life easier in testing offline, although IIRC you can join the practice server and drive a track you haven't unlocked yet.

Can't get anywhere near the track records in that Marcos :(. Over a second slower.
It's not really the amazing power, or for some reason the rears don't heat and wear, but it's that huuuuuuge lump at the front that blocks my view :D. That triple lefthander is impossible to do right :P.

Oh good  so including the marcos for you alien types worked then.

Hmmm, and with the Ford GT I did a 1:20.7. I think I want Monza for the Marcos ;D

So far for me:

Marcos 1:22.3
Ford GT 1:20.7
DB9 1:20.5
C6 1:20.4

Marcos is a monster but for me the biggest problem is the lack of view. Too hard to see the apex and it will be too dangerous to pick this car for this track as I won't see any brake lights as well.

Ford GT is a bit like the MC12. Steers in like mad but is quite tricky to drive. Visibility is perfect tho.

DB9 is very stable and more towards understeer (all cars driven with same setup). Nice sounds, fun handling and good visibility.

C6 is very very forgiving, tells you exactly when it's gonna go. Sounds are great but visibility is quite poor with the rollcage infront of you :P.

Is this a semi-low grip circuit? I'm having to take a higher gear through some corners just to try and stop the rear losing traction coming out even though it just doesnt feel as quick, especially the first corner sequence.

If i increase the rear roll bar shouldnt that help to keep the rear end from rolling around and help traction from both rear wheels? More often i've found dropping it helps ???

has anyone tamed the Aston here yet ?   I really struggled with it, felt like driving on ice even in dry and car just wanted to understeer off at every corner or throw you into the armcos on every corner exit  ???
I havent even tried it in the wet yet but dreading it now i've tried it in the dry  :o

Any setup advice appreciated for it here as at the moment i just dont think i could drive it for a race length or even a 5 lap stretch without binning it  :(

On ice? Really? I thought it was extremely stable and understeery. If you want I can sent a TT lap and setup.

Guys

I am rarely ata virtual wheel on Sunday eve, I'm normally at a real one.
I would like to be aboe to join the odd race where I can though
I have had GTR2 working before on a different box, but I can't get it to run on this one

The system is the same one I use for GTL and that works fine.
When I try to start GTR2 it goes to the config graphics GUI, and whatever I choose
(normally 1600x1200x16Bit for GTL) it just keeps looping back to that GUI, even if I take
the offered 800x600 it still goes away for a few secs, then brings up the UI again.

I have installed the 1.1 update. Only possibly weird thing about this box is that it is
now running Vista-64 bit (memory needs for work)
Core2 duo. Nvidia 8600GT , 4 gig, Vista -64

I am running the latest Nvidia drivers, I have d/l'd some older ones to try.
Any clues?

Ta
Matt.

I guess I am alone in having trouble. Just in case anyone has seen similar
a clean install original version works fine.
1.1 upgrade stuffs it, My box has "made in EU" on it, so I installed 1.1 EU patch
I have tried the US patch as well, and no difference, Older graphics drivers
have made no difference.
In the sysinfo file, after running graphics setup, it says 8800GT and -1809 MB
and it's an 8600GT and I think 512, or maybe256, but sure isnt a minus figure
this is before and after patching.

Can someone remind me: what's our policy about crossing the white line before entering the triple lefthander? Is it allowed or not?

overcast is right between wet and dry TT....it could go either way. 50/50 chance.

I have never seen anybody yet that doesn't cross the white line.....so I imagine as it is not an ingame warning it is acceptable.

After good time in qually which kept me smilling through it all, i tried gambling on softs to start off and once the rain came i was laughing. Well, untill it got so wet i couldnt touch the pedal without spinning. Even after fitting hard wets i could barely accelerate and was getting no fun out of it so after the umpteen spin i quit.

Awesome race!!!

Thought it might be fun not to qually and start at the back. Would have been impossible to catch Busi on pole, but he dropped (disco?) and also had to start from the back.
Completely to my surpsise it started to rain at the end of lap 1 and I didn't have any praccy in those conditions.
It slowly started to become very wet, and around lap 10 I had to pit for wets. Last lap on slicks was awesome ;D

Opted for soft wets which was the right choice, as they were perfect. It slowly started to dry to some point and my softs started to overheat, but they still gave me good grip.
With 30 minutes to go my calculations showed me I'd just run out of fuel before the finish, and my tyres were already at 22 after 30 minutes on those wets, so I needed new rubber as well.

Pitted with 25 minutes to go and did a small splash of fuel, which wasn't necessary in hindsight. Hal had overtaken me at that point with 14s lead. With fresh rubber I could close the gap and have a nice battle with him in those slippery conditions.

Great race with super conditions ;D

Yep, another great race ;D

Lots of fun, I had no answer for Ruskus. I only pitted once, put soft wets on (which worked fine) and he still beat me by 30 seconds or more after making 2 pit stops. ::)

Maybe I went too long on the slicks. Anyway, thanks all, lapping was very hard but, I think we got through it OK :)

That was really tough.....I don't think I blinked my eyes all the way through that race  :)
I am a little confused though how we ended up driving in the wet, because on the weather report it said it was "Mostly Cloudy"???
This said I am learning (slowly) how to handle the cars in wet, and today was a HUGE learning curve!!

ps. I'll get you next time Legzy!! ;D

I hate this time of year  ;)...another wet race...they're damn hard work

Qually went ok in the dry...a pb put me 4th behind 2 teamies and some legend or other  ;)

Was holding my own ok in the first few laps with medium slicks all round till I overcooked the throttle coming out of the last corner and ended up facing the wrong way dow the straight with a flat left front tyre. Cost me plenty limping all the way back round. Stuck hard wets on and they worked great after a while...at first the fronts were a little cold but as the rain eased a little they came good.
Fought my way back up to 7th and was lapping in decent times when I realised I hadn't put any fuel in on my stop, so had to do a splash n dash with 12 mins to go...That cost me a couple of spots...but then Jan ran dry on the last lap and I picked 1 back up.

Enjoyable race...even though I dont really like the place.

Grats all.

Chortle
I spent the first 20 laps trying to decide if it was wet or not..
tried soft wets, hard wets, intermediates, even asked for snow tyres
but got medium slicks. gave up half way as I was becoming a hazard
I got no rain on my screen, apart from the grip levels, how do you know
it's raining? I thought I remembered drops on screen? Perhaps that
was Race2007

My lack of practice shone through here, I'd have been OK if it had stayed dry... but the moment it started raining (i.e. lap two) I was in trouble.

Smashed my car to bits just before I was about to do my 1st pit stop, repaired everything  ::)
Hard wets were running too cold for me, but did what I could & I guess was all right... till I did another wall  ::)
Only minor damage to repair this time, but changed to soft wets.... which I spent the rest of the race trying to keep cool

Keeping an eye on the clock as I knew Lazlow was catching me with every lap. Just crossed the line with one sec in hand as I think he struggled when he tried to force a move at the last two corners... next time buddy  ;D

Note - Just spotted how good a spread of cars it was (with a slight lean to C6R's), job well done to the guys that do the balancing :thumbup1:

love the wet,car was great, pitstops were horrible as ever lost tons of time and ended up in the grass without fuel on the last lap......
Sorry for the tap Napo ( brave to drive the Viper..kudos for that ;D)

I only know cockpit view, anything else was considered to be not cricket in GPL leagues.
makes it an arcade game if you use top down view anyways.  ;D

Great race and conditions 8) 8)

Hadn't turned a wheel in the wet in the GT40, on the job training, wrong tyre choice cost me dearly until my last pit stop with about 30 minutes to go, after which I could push hard, secured a 10th/11th which I am reasonably pleased with.

..tough race by any standard

Congrats podium

Ok, I'll experiment. Only got the thing running earlier today (thanks to Ruskus)
so had no time to mess, or practice. I'll be more on it at Donny on Tues I expect.

Dang. I hate rain in SIms, always seemed pointless to me, it's never well modeled
and when it's stealth rain , well....  :surrender:

Thought it might be fun not to qually and start at the back. Would have been impossible to catch Busi on pole, but he dropped (disco?) and also had to start from the back.
No, no disco ;D seeing you were starting at the back, thought it would be great to try and follow you through the field, which I did till 11th or 12th place, was brilliant ;D

I pitted one lap earlier than the rest when track was getting more and more wet. Looks like it worked cause I gained 4-5 places with the pitstops. I was in 6th and on hard wets, which were not heating enough (55ish ºC fronts and 70ish ºC rears all the time) and I was losing around 3 seconds a lap to Jeff, but keeping the pace with Gazza ahead of me. We had a nice chase for several laps there :) I made some mistakes but was just a bit faster.

In the end he has a surprising spin before the entry of the triple left hander - I've had a couple of those odd spins there too, there must be something strange at the extra space on the right, just where the grass finishes. And Napo had trouble too, looks like he had to pit again.

So 4th in the end, too far behind TT, but a minute ahead of Gazza, who I guess had a problem after the spin.

I'd like to know what tyres you were on too, H@L, TT, Gazza, Napo? If that can be told

Brilliant race, amazing pace Jeff, I couldn't believe you were doing 28's on those threacherous conditions, but I guess the soft wets + less fuel + you combination made that possible ;D

No mystery here. Meds slicks and then hard wets all the way.  :)

Medium slicks at the start. I pitted just before the one hour mark and put on soft wets which lasted until the end (just).

cheers, just want to learn a bit more about wet tyres as I don't know how much faster soft wets are compared to hard wets, and how much faster they wear. What I knew so far was the difference in temperatures, after having been on 170ºC soft wets at Le Mans ;D

My hard wets also lasted 1 hour, a bit more, and they were worn around 20-22 at the end. I would guess Gazza was on softs as I could barely follow him at the beginning of the 2nd stint but then I was faster

That was hard!!

Was a little nervous about doing the formation lap but teamies talked me throught it  :)

Made a good start as was pulling away then my heart sank as the rain came lol, hadnt done any practise here in the wet. Came in for wet tyres about the right time but completely messed up the pitstop as another car pulled out as i was coming into my stall and i over shot and had to back it up which lost me alot of time which let H@l and Napo past. I filled it to the brim and went for soft wets on the front and hard wets on the rear which worked ok but in hine sight i wish i had gone for hard wets all round as towards the end my left front was very very worn and i was loosing time and made the discision to come in and change with 10 mins to go as i knew i would keep 5th and knew i wouldnt catch the ones ahead.

Had nice battles with Busi and Jan.

Grats geoff mindboggling pace, and nice one H@l

I was not actually sure that the soft wets would last but, they did, luckily :D

I just put them on because I heard thunder, which is a sign that the rain will be heavy enough to flood the track.

What a race guys!  ;D

I barely did any practice, and I wasn't doing great but I kinda expected that since I hear the Viper is hard to drive. But then Jeff tells me that not all the vipers are the same and that those letters that looks like smiley's are actually tire designations. :D So I pick the car with the better tires and I pull in a respectable 5th or 6th spot. We get going and it starts raining. I start cursing cuz I don't know how to tell when to pit or when to brake how much throttle input to use being my 1st gtr2 league race and 1st time racing in changing/wet conditions in gtr2! I back right down and a train behind me is forming. I slowly start to up the pace and close in on the driver in front of me only to see him spin out at the last corner. I start to ponder when to pit cuz the guys in front are long gone so I can't follow them if they decide to go in. Luckily when I could see more spray and the track really got slippery I came in at the right time. I come out in 7th according to my pitboard, a lap or two later when everyone else comes in I see p1 on my pitboard!!!!  :o

After that the driver behind me is closing me in fast and the plan is to keep him behind as long as possible but I blow that with too much throttle and 2 cars get past! After that I'm able to maintain good pace while in 3rd but being my 1st gtr2 league race I make the typical n00b mistakes. I could list them all but it's really long.

So I end up dropping another place. Good fights in between with drivers. I went for soft wets and I tried to go all the way but my tires were just shot! I started to struggle more and more until I got a knock from behind from a lapper I think it was Jan. He was very sportsmanlike and waited for me.  :) I had to pit for new soft wets and ended putting too much fuel in the car. But I felt more grip and that was enough for me to quickly close down 6th place driver and take it with ease. Unfortunately not enough time to try and take 5th place also he was travelling about the same speed as me near the end of the race.

Sorry for not naming who I was racing, I only use the pitboard and I lost my replay when they switched sessions...the n00b mistakes just keep coming.

I was disappointed with only 6th but without these n00b mistakes a better result was definitely possible. But on a more positive note this is why I choose gtr2 over rfactor! It's just awesome racing in changeable conditions even tho I wasn't too happy when I saw the rain I loved it! Awesome race! Lots of fun!

Great race! Thanks a lot for the racing. I hope to make more of these races but my priority lies with ukgpl. But if there's ever a time where there isn't a race and there's one here I'll be sure to join if possible. ;D

That was a very tough race in those conditions, my first wet outing in a GT1 car ever as far as i know  :o

Joined late and suffering a little from an afternoon xmas bevvy. Qualied a very respectable 6th in my first outing in a C6 Vette  8) and was feeling good for the race....if it stayed dry  :P

Race started well with me pressurising Napos Viper for 5th for a fair number of laps trying to find a way past but he made his car suitably wide in the corner complexes and had better speed down the straights, and that went on until the rain came down.
Various xmas doo's over last few days had prevented me doing any wet practise so was a case of learning very much as i went along and boy was it tricky. GT1s are a real handful in the wet on slicks and i was like bambi covered in olive oil on ice  ;D but i cleverly pitted early for hard wets and came back out 5th again and feeling very pleased for myself, 'except' i got given a bloody stop and go as i exited the pits  :taz: ???...pretty weird considering i was on auto-pit ! I can only assume my car slithered over the pit entry line before the limiter kicked in.
So had to pit two laps later, still 5th but dropped to 10th by return to track  :'(
Then it was really hard tippy toe racing for a good 40minutes in the rain and had several excursions, especially around by the fast 'S' corners.
Got upto 9th and Jan re-emerged just in front of me from the pits so looked like i would have a good battle for 8th to see me through to end of race with about 25-30mins remaining but alas a team mate got between me and him at the fast 's' turns and unsighted behind him in the tricky brake zone i flew off sideways and lost about 20 seconds. :surrender: All motivation disapeared and after another off and feeling a bit sick i retired as wasnt enjoying it enough to persist for just a fun race. It was just too hard work as my setup was a total dry one with low power diff and only 7 rear wing.
Retired from 9th i think?

Do love these atmospheric conditions, 8) just need to get more wet praccy in and some setups together.
Congrats to the podium guys.  :notworthy:

I don't have much to say, the race was quite boring, didn't race anyone really. ::)   Only the weather, lol. :D   I was expecting a dry race, overcast is a long way away from heavy rain for one hour. :whistling:  But ok, changeable, etc. - this is only good in my view. GT1s are difficult in the rain and I was accelerating in 4th where I usually did in 2nd. ;D  Had one off after Psuedododo let me by, what a smurf I was! :-[   Must have been all that pink somewhere behind me. ;)

I pitted after the rain started and it happened as I expected: there was already someone in my stall, but he moved on soon, so I only lost about 6, 7 seconds there. The race was demanding and since the gaps were big front and back I concentrated on staying on track, not high pace. It payed off, as guys in front were having various troubles and I finished 3rd in the end. :)

MJ, it doesn't get any better than that, points or no. :P  Well done, JPS, you're becomming the most very reliable team member. Just lift off 1 sec earlier. ;)

Jeffe, go back where you were in the last months. ;D   Well done, Jeff & H@l. 8)

TT

well,

sorry guys
was hoping to get in earlier to get a bit of practice in,but step daughter broke down in her car and i had to go and pick her and car up.

i think i joined with about 8 minutes of qually 2 to go.

enjoyed race, and when it started to rain,i loved it,as i think i am pretty decent in the wet,but with little practice and haven't driven the mc12 for ages,i put it into a barrier and lost the front right wheel, tried to get round to pits but pulled off track to let faster cars past, and promptly got stuck. doh!!!!

will get some practice in for the Donny bash Tuesday, so hopefully will be more competitive this time.

if not just shoot me lol

sorry if i got in anyone's way, tried hard to keep off racing line.

Dave

ps, loved the rolling start format, very good and fair.

unfortunately someone else in another mc12 overpowered on formation lap at t2 and ended up way way down the field, looking forward to more of the same.

Came into this race a bit under-prepared so tried to learn while qualifying. Not a too bad 13th considering.

The rain in the race certainly mixed things up and it was tricky trying to judge the optimum moment to pit. I left it too late and suddenly the car lost all grip on my in lap. Whilst furiously trying to calculate fuel requirements, I inadvertently forgot to change to wets and immediately stuffed it into the pit wall at the exit. Apologies to anybody I impeded <hangs head in shame at school boy error> :(

That apart, the race was fun and, as MJ said, especially atmospheric as the rain set in. btw, how long did the rain last? I quit after my pit wall altercation.
