  • You will not be able to join the server without v2.8.9.1 of the UKGTR car pack and v1.2 of the Track pack (see download links above).
You will not see skins correctly without the optional, matching GT1 and GT2 skins packs.

I voted for double header only because I've got another race at 21:40 so in that case I could join the first one at least I guess ;D

I voted for the double header because it's something different to normal & again I think I'll have more time being involved in actual racing over 2x30mins rather then just being lapped in 1x80mins.

It looking like another 9pm start time makes me vote for a double header...super E would take us in to the wee small hours.

If we do a Super it'll start early as per season 8.

Okay, full details posted. In light of the closeness of the poll, I'll endeavour to ensure that when we test the new GTC and GT3 cars early next year we run some of those races as double headers.

The poll has now been replaced with one for car choice. Let's try and get a good spread - there are nearly enough cars for everyone to be in something different... ;)

Note:
From last night's donny race.
Unless none of the Astons were using the speed limiter, the lights don't work when you do.
Or I'm blind... seemed to cause some confusion at the start, as many cars were Astons.

I want to go with the majority to ensure some close racing?

I'd prefer GT2, as I haven't tested those yet, but if GT1 is selectable, I'll go for that, as those cars are more thrilling :D.

If I can make the early start, then I would choose GT2. Not tried them all yet, Like Beemer, Like F430
(though it is very RED) Gallardo is an Italian Nutter Bxstard, whoa there bessy! great brakes, otherwise
a death trap for me. The mod 360 is nice, but 430 seems quicker.
Need to try Panoz and Seat, I won't be trying the Front Porches, it would only end in tears.

That's pretty good in race trim in that car.

I'm about 2s slower than record in the Marcos, and I'll probably blow up the engine ;D.

Shame. My first race with my new G25 and with Force Feedback so wasn't expecting much. I always have frame rate issues with Monza so stepped down from 1080p to 720p as a precaution.

I was shocked to qualify in 3rd with a PB and enjoyed listening to Jeff's engine on the warm-up lap and watching the Aliens disappear into the distance in the first laps.

I lost a position to H@L and enjoyed trying to keep Dave behind before the rain started and my fps fell from 50's down to between 10 and 20 - undriveable. Gave it one lap and a pit stop to settle down but quit when it didn't - parked against a wall with a steady 6fps showing.  :(

Hope everyone had fun and you all have an enjoyable Christmas.

Having an absolutely brilliant race, gambled to stay out on slicks and it paid off, I was now 5th/6th!!!! and everything going good 8)

This is the third or fourth race in a row this has happened at some point or other whilst on a SROU test race weekend, first time in the race!! and one of my best races yet!!

Gizmo, please help, is it the new pack, is it my connection (went through all of Season 8 without a glitch when compared to this short season) is my provider (Virgin Media, are they any good, what provider is the best, any recommendations) if it is my end then I will do something about it, strange that it has started over the test season.????

Soul destroying, if this carries on...someone help :'(

All i can say is; "LOL".

I put it in the pit wall after 'attempting' to enter the pits. Doh ::)

I was in the lead after getting lucky with the weather by leaving it very late to pit for wets (the idea was to save fuel) and then It stopped raining, so I stayed out ;D

I got a stop go penalty from lack of consentration (gutted about that after doing Spa without getting a single warning) and lost it on the way in to the pit :'(

I went a little wide and pushed the braking zone to the limit but just skidded into the wall. One of my most embarrassing and amusing crashes yet. :P

I love the SE races but never seem to do well.

TS was great ;D

What a great race! Was hopelessly slow in the dry, but decided to stay out when the rain started. The strategy worked perfectly, got a new set of dry tires after the rain and had my second pit stop for wets after it started again.

Was running rather well at 30 minutes to go, was maybe a bit too comfortable with a one minute gap ahead and behind. The car was slippery through the fast corner after the Lesmos, and I slid to the outside and hit at full speed into the support of the old bridge that just protruded from the armco (a bit of a safety hazard maybe? :) ). Trashed the car, but surprisingly the engine was still running, so I limped on. In hindsight I probly should have pitted in at that point and swapped the front, since I was losing seconds per lap. I guess my engine or radiator took some damage too, and it gave up with one lap to go.

The changeable weather is great, tends to equalize the field and give the slower guys a chance to gamble. Hope to see more of that in the next season!

Well shiver me timbers, what a top barnacle of a race to end the season for me!

Was a bit concerned about fuel usage and engine health so I started out short shifting a little and just followed Prof and Hal round for the first 20 minutes or so. Once the skies darkened I could only hope that it didn't rain too hard, as I was out on soft slicks and knew that a merely damp track wouldn't force me to pit, and would also help my economy.

Sure enough we just had a short shower and whilst everyone else was diving into the pits I just kept rolling round, saving fuel and trying to stretch my first stint out until there was only 1:20 left on the clock. Didn't quite get there and pitted from the lead with about 1:22 left for a full tank and more soft slicks.

Jeffrey was hunting me down slowly but surely and it looked like 2nd was probably the best I could hope for, but then the rain came back with a vengeance; I stayed out until the car felt like it was dangerously short of grip and then gambled that the rain wouldn't get really heavy, taking on intermediates and another full tank of fuel.

I could really have done with hard wets, but the inters were good enough for me to keep the gap to JR's Marcos from shrinking too fast, and then 3 laps from the end I got the bonus of him feeling the need to splash and dash, handing me the win by over a lap.

Having done almost no practice at all, and no running in the wet or in the dark, it was basically dumb luck that my extreme reluctance to pit, a relatively stiff diff, and a lack of major mistakes gifted me a victory. ;D

Must say sorry to phspok if my early braking for Parabolica caused you to run into the gravel - I was having to brake much earlier than in the dry to avoid running off there.

There are capacity issues on the BT ADSL exchanges at the moment - luckily they haven't affected me for a few days now but up until last week I had very poor connections during the early evening.

Tiscali have been gradually applying more and more traffic shaping to their network too which doesn't help when it mistakes gaming traffic for peer to peer file sharing (the reason I left Nildram after they sold out to them).

once again i confirmed that i am one of the unluckiest sim racers around  :(

Led the GT2 race for about an hour and a half and with only 22 minutes remaining got a wobble at exit of variante ascari, clipped the barrier and either sheared off my left rear wheel or got a full puncture, not sure which, got down to the parabolica ready for a pit entry to get it repaired, but as i braked, the car speared off left into the gravel and with only 3 wheels i couldnt get out  >:(  had to retire, was gutted beyond belief.

Sorry to Martin for contact early in race, thought you had locked up and gone wide but as i dived inside for the apex you came back across and we had contact. Not seen replay but sorry if it was my fault, our braking distances were massively different.

The porker seems to be really down on power, i couldnt even draft Jans SEAT when sat right behind him and with better corner exits and then he could just pull away from me whilst Martins panoz simply left me for dead on the straights.  ???  I only had 3 rear wing so doubt it was wing settings, unless they had far less fuel onboard than me.  :-\

I was running 3rd GT2 when it started raining the first time around. Saw a few pit including the top 2 GT2s but i was only losing a couple of secs a lap in my dry setup so decided to stick it out. Just when i thought i might pit for wets i saw a blue patch appear and sky and so stayed out of slicks. Had a full lap advantage over my nearest rivals for nearly whole race.
But then i had to make my stop for tyres and fuel and i should have stuck wets on then as i could see it getting dark again and sure enough it rained about 5 laps later. So i had to stop again for wet tyres only.
Still had a good lead but picked up two stupid warnings for alleged chicane cuts whilst trying to control a low wing car in the wet and therefore had to start taking all chicanes like a grannie with the fear of a stop and go hanging over me. I think the cut warnings are ridiculous on the srouk version of Monza, especially at the 2nd chicane where you cannot even take the natural racing line  >:(
this allowed TT to gradually reel me in and i was getting slower and slower with the 22mins remaining before the wheel damage, i was even robbed of the chance of a fight on track with my team mate  :'(

Congrats to the pody guys and all who took part.  8) So gutted i lost out on a super enduro win, so near and yet so far...not even a podium after all that hard work  :(

That was another great race  ;D

My strategy was sound....untill the rain came....then went....then came again  ::) It went straight out the window and I ended up pitting 3 times...a for some reason known only to the little people that live in my head, took fuel each time too ???

No chance of catching the alien TT ahead..too damn fast again  ;)

Grats to Dave and TT.

The TS was good and didn't cause any problems except lapses in concentration listening to FreQ and Ruskus

Bring on the next season.

Tiscali have been gradually applying more and more traffic shaping to their network too which doesn't help when it mistakes gaming traffic for peer to peer file sharing (the reason I left Nildram after they sold out to them).

Well they claim they stopped doing that. Most of the customers say they still do. ::)
If it is Tiscali causing this...new ISP time I think. >:(

once again i confirmed that i am one of the unluckiest sim racers around  :(

We use some other word(s) for that in my country. ;)  But ok, you really were unlucky to blast the car. Also, I feel robbed of the epic fight that was long overdue and was looking like it was gonna happen. :nono:  I was a bit faster, but not as much to safely overtake, so I think you would win. Good show, MJ. 8)

As for Jan, I was in the same position, faster through corners, then he just drove away. ::)  You gotta be pesky, then he makes mistakes. Sorry Jan, but you did. ;)

Psuedo, I also went to pit 3 times.  :P  Had a comfy lead of 10 seconds when the rain started. Was keeping on slicks untill I almost lost it, then went in to take hard wets and some fuel. Then the rain stopped. ::)  Didn't want to lose more time pitting, so I kept wets on and went to pit only when I was sure the fuel will last to the end. The tyres were bright red by then. Two pits required, full tank, med slicks: here we go with 70 minutes left. Driving, then the rain started again. :P  Pitted again and took hard wets again. Was gaining on MJ, then he knocked himself out. ::)  Just drove slowly from then on, keeping it on track. I also picked up two cut warnings and had to go around where I should go straight.  ;)

Tough race, what with all the water pouring down. When I was behind Jan I could't see anything and was braking waaay sooner, diminishing my chances to pass. Was frustrating, but the most interesting event I had all race.  :P

Well done Dave!  8)  And others.
Err, Rusky: Marcos looks lovely in the sand.  ;D

TT

P.S. Used Teamspeak to exchange some words with the guys. Nice to hear a voice from a person. 8)  Didn't connect for the race as I find it distracting.

Wow, what a race! Fantastic fun!
Still downloading the replay but may have been a little optimistic on your part MJ!? Span me around and was left last!
The difference in the 2 cars was huge wasn't it! I was running full fuel, medium tyres and 4 rear wing for the record! I did play with the gear ratios a lot in practice to get the best posible drive etc. but the wing obviously held me back in the corners. Grip was not brilliant and I couldn't find a suspension set up that didn't have the kerbs upsetting it! Only took the Panoz to make a mixed field but actually quite enjoyed it! Anyway all academic as I got 2 track cut warnings on the first lap! Groan! Pitted the moment it rained, bad decision! Got a black flag and had to do my first stop and go! Then back to slicks, then back to wets! Then another stop and go! How I wasn't 5 laps down I will never know...... Oops just checked, I was 6 laps down! lol  ;D
Oh, drove myself onto the gravel getting out of Freq's way when he was lapping me!
A very eventful yet enjoyeable race.

I love, love, love those Super Enduro's ! So glad we got good attendance. More please! Oh, changeable weather is fantatstic too!

Merry Christmas all, thanks for all the great racing!

M.

That was a cracking race :) Not as tired as I usually would have been, probably due to the copious amounts of full caffeine coke I drank to keep me awake.

Had a good battle with legzy until the rain came and I gambled on wet tyres. This was evidently the wrong choice as my tyres started to melt when it soon dried :)

Made a school boy error when I went to change back to dry tyres as I inadvertently changed to new wets again; I dumbly assumed that it would revert to my original setup choice. Doh!, so back in for dry tyres again.

Started to make up a few places again in the middle stint and was going well. This time when the rain came I thankfully did put on full wets. Found myself in 4th place with 15mins to go when I fell off the road at the 2nd Lesmo and lost a few places trying to slip and slide my way back on the road.

My tyres were shot by this point and Jan was catching me as I tip-toed round. He overtook with a few mins left and I gave chase but it wasn't enough. I actually lifted off before I saw the chequered flag and I thought the race was over; it wasn't :)

Did anybody follow the Gallardos in the heavy rain? The amount of spray is outrageous compared to the other cars (probably a bit more realistic though). I first thought it was smoke it was that thick - you could not see a thing behind it. I think it must be something modelled with the car as the headlamp power has also been greatly increased.

Well done to the podium and all the finishers.

It was smoke - JPV's Lambo was belching it out, see his post above!

That was a good test for the Seat and me( fitness required, was totally neckered at the checkered ).
I feared the worst for the cars engine so was short shifting right from the start, had to let Pseudo go and cruised along,
tried to be smart and went for wets as the rain came, wrong  >:(  shot my wheatherman and changed back again to slicks.I think everybody made a tyre mistake along the way.
Had a nice scrap with TT,but made a mistake and he was off never saw him back again, another good race for him.
Sorry to hear of your mishap MJ .I had 2/6 wing ;D,but then you dont have to worry about your engine( mine was down to 83%).
All in all a nice experience but only once every 6 months is ok for me  ;D

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ,

Jan

Just saw in the results that the Seat was on Dunlop tyres, thats strange because in the 2891 skinpack it is on Michelins  ???

hmm, reading the posts, it would seem i was right in saying the cut warnings are too drastic here. I really dont think we need them anymore at this track. They were only introduced because we had some being rather too cheeky with their cuts but all those left racing in our league are there for the racing not cheating.

Apologies again Martin if i was 'optimistic', i only went for the apex as had so much better braking and assumed you were heading straight on into the sand as you stayed wide until very late. I was immediately 1 second faster by the next time beacon so was losing a heck of a lot of time behind you in the corners. :o  I couldnt get near you on the straights and the fact that Jan had 6 rear wing on his SEAT compared to my 3 and i still couldnt draft or catch him on the straights tells me the 997 has been a little unfairly compromised on power.  ???

Cracking last race of the year, really enjoyed it until the wheels quite literally fell off my wagon  :'(

Happy Christmas and a Happy New year to all  :)

Hopefully see some of you on track over the festive spell for some inpromptu praccy seshs' ?

I bet if we went back to the stock version we'd have people running across the first two chicanes and the grass at Ascari all the time. I got two cut warnings, one at the second chicane and one at Ascari, and both times I deserved them!

Monza is a funny old place - if we'd been somewhere with more corners and less straights the tables would've been turned. The SEAT has always been very quick on the straights. I had the same problem with the Aston when behind the 550/575 of Hal and Prof - getting held up massively in the corners but unable to stay with them even in the draft and outbrake them.

Great fun race ;D.

AT the beginning I couldn't keep up with FreQ, as I was losing too much in the Lesmo's. Then it started to rain and I kept going on slicks, and normally I would've stayed out, but I skidded a bit wide and thought what the heck, I'll come in a lap early. Halfway on my soft wets and it dryed up en I had to come in again. Was far far behind at that point as Dave stayed out.
It started to rain agin when I only had 10L in the tank and I had to make a quick decision what is was gonna be, this time I  picked the hard wets, which were good at the beginning, but got too cold near the end and it was skid-city. I couldn't keep up with Dave and to make matters worst I wasn't gonna get to the finish with my fuel and needed to do a splash and go for 5 L  :-\.
Had a nice pit entry....backwards, as I almost did a H@l and hit that wall ;D. Locked brakes, went round and drove backwards into the pits ;D. Headlights were damaged in the process, which caused me to miss my brakepoint in the penultimate lap at Parabolica and I went bloody fast into the gravel and wall. Luckily car was still running with no punctures and I was able to get out :P.

Well done Dave, you lapped the whole field :).

New TS server was fun, but to not shock people, me and FreQ were taking it easy on the talk ;D.

Thanks to Jorgen for keeping us up to date with the weather ;D

Really enjoyed that.  8)
Qualified 7th, but Jorgen didn't show up in front of me on the grid, so once the race started proper... I watched the faster GT1 drivers disappear, but I was pleasantly surprised to be on pace with Mcfids. I think I held him off till just before the 1st rain started. He was hassling me (fairly) at the middle to end of every straight as his C6r seemed to have a considerably better top speed then my Lister. But I'm guessing I had more rear wing though as I was able to eek the gaps back out again on the fast corners. Good fun that was. :)

Then the rest of the race was just a guessing game of when to pit, how much fuel to add & what tyres to stick on etc etc.

Came across Mcfids (& a few others) a couple more times for brief spells, but he seemed more at home in the wet then me (as did a few drivers). Enjoyed re-catching some of the GT2 boys that had obviously got the jump on me with the pit stops etc... got back to within striking distance of Jan twice in the last 10 mins only to lose control & head for the gravel. One of those times, there was Mcfids then Jan then me with about 2-3 secs total between us after over two hours driving! :o

Good effort all & merry Xmas  ;D

How about a WTCC race ;D

Already asked Psuedo about that. He's out playing with his Bass  8)
Can anyone else save us from boredom and set up a WTCC race? ;D

This race went OK. Qually was not too bad and got pole, embarrasingly close to Jeff in the Marcos though. It's good to have him pop back regularly because it makes me realise how rubbish I am in perspective!

The start was good and I could pull a small lead in the dry, but then it started to rain and I called it perfectly wrong. Stayed out on slicks for ages until finally pitting, then it dried out on the lap I pitted for hard wets and I had to pit again 2 laps later for slicks again. Then I managed to get 3 (!) stop-go's which ruined it for me. I wasn't gaining any time from the cuts, I was just understeering off over the kerbs - my fault though and I was fine in the dry. It's better that I cock up and we have this system than using the original Monza, becuase then everyone would cut every lap. Which sucks.

After that I stuck on soft wets towards the end and finally had some pace again, and caught up with Jeff. I wasn't really sure what I could do as he was 2 laps in front, but I was a second or so a lap faster. My thinking was, he's not catching Dave, it's a fun race, and I'm bored. So we had a half-hearted scrap where I'd keep pulling alongside and he kept deafening me with the Marcos. That car sounds like it has death under the bonnet  8)

Then after revving the car all race, the engine went. Best way to finish what was turning into a rubbish race

Grats Dave for the pretty perfect pit decisions, and quick lap times too. Well deserved this one.

Title: Re: UKGTR Season 8 Pre-season 9 - Monza (GP) - Dec 21
Post by: Mark J on December 23, 2008, 11:09:02 AM +0000
i only got my warnings once it rained harder and the track became more slippery. I agree that they should remain in place for areas like the first chicane and to prevent too much cutting at Ascari, but the 2nd chicane one is plain daft as it penalises you for using that small green tarmac patch on the first left jink which is part of the natural racing line through it. Forcing low winged cars to actually jink left-right, combined with the kerbs, unsettles them and causes spins (as witnessed plenty of times there, i noticed !).
I also think the Ascari exit should allow the green triangle patch to be used also, as again you are forced wide and its very easy to drop a right wheel into that suction pad gravel or slippery kerb and spin/fling you into the wall. (as happened to me when i lost the rear wheel  :( ). Watch any real race at Monza and cars are allowed to use those green triangle patches, thats why they are there !

Is it too hard to trim back the cut warning just a little to accomodate those two small areas ? Of course if the majority here are happy with it, then keep them in. Nobody wants to see people taking advantage of no-cut warnings.

I also agree that the cut warning at Craners at Doni is again too draconian. Add a bit of rain and its too easy to pick up un-neccessary warnings.

Got to say, the changeable weather has really spiced up the racing  8) It adds that extra element of uncertainty/luck that can mix the field up and challenge all racers. Now we just need to use a little light-time settings magic to really make it more lifelike  :)

whats the word on templates for the new cars? shouldnt we be dishing them out to the teams so we can all get our respective painters to skin some cars for the new season when it starts ?
Any news on GTC/G3 cars ?

Psuedo - can you set the server with several tracks, say Interlagos, Estoril and Zhuhai. Weather to mild chageable and race length 60 minutes? We can vote sessions/events on our own then, so practice and quali sessions length doesn't really matter.  :)

Oo, are we racing? ;D

I'd love Monaco, but putting up the track dl on such short notice is bound to leave us with a grid of 5 cars. So lets stick to a track we all already have.

Should we do a 1 make race? Viper CC at Interlagos? ;D

I'm up for tonight ;D I'd like a GT1 race at somewhere like Interlagos, but I'm ok with anything suggested :)

Server is now set with various tracks....all cars.

praccy session 1 and qually is 120 mins. just advance yourselves when ready.

race time is set to 20 min races.....so you could do 2 or 3 at different tracks maybe.

There will not be any results or replays uploaded.

have fun. :)

Err password is not usual practise password, its the 'race' password by the way.

Oops, my fault, never changed it back when I restarted it after Sunday's race. You can tell I don't do server duty regularly. :-[

i only got my warnings once it rained harder and the track became more slippery.

I agree with you on the cut warnings, I found myself spending more time trying to avoid the cut warnings :o  than actually racing, some are set to a ridiculous point  and go against the spirit of the track itself :nono:

Err what happened with the lights? I was expecting them to go red then green, not just to go green when the countdown went down. I'm too used to the GTL starts which threw me.
