Little question about skins. This is what says for the skin packs:

"If you have the previous skin packs installed you do not need to download and install the 2.9.1.0 GT1 or GT2 packs."

Those "previous" skin packs are the S8 ones or the 8.9? I mean I had S8 skins but didn't download any of the 8.9 skins, which ones do I need then?

I just uninstalled all the 8.9's and installed all the s9 packs. Nice work compiling them everyone, but could we get them into one easy-to-use pack?

Not a big deal though. It's nice just having them in .exe's so it's easy to add/remove them!

The 8.9 ones - if you install the 2.9.1.0 physics pack you'll be able to see what skins you're missing in game.

Doesn't bode well this, earlier, few mins after Gazza left the server my GTR2 crashed on me, even popped up a windows box about it.

Two times in two days oh.. not now :(

Does anyone know what car they're going to be running yet & anybody got any times I could aim for here?
I've been having a pop in the Viper, the Vette & the Lister & am getting regular 2:13's with race fuel... but the track record is depressingly way faster! ???

For sure I'll be making GT1 sprints in my Lambo, trying to defend the title

I practiced today and managed a good race pace around the race lap record, low 2:09's

I'll pick a car at 8:15 tonight if I'm able to attend, but it won't be the Aston or the Marcos.

What's the Ford GT like to drive? Strengths/weaknesses/flaws?
What's the CR6 like to drive? Strengths/weaknesses/flaws?

I can't really remember, it's been a while since I drove this. I think it was alright, I just found a couple of the other cars suited me better.

What's the CR6 like to drive? Strengths/weaknesses/flaws?
Strengths = Everything, easy to drive & fast. I'd expect this to be the most popular car on the grid (I was surprised this car was not equalised out further in the latest physics update).
Weakness = None that I can find.

Im gunna take the GT40 for the sprint races but not the endurance series. I really enjoy driving it but dont think its the fastest so doubt i'll be challenging the top boys. Its quite hard to get the car stable and balanced, has decent speed but feels kinda heavy in turns like youve almost got to muscle the car into turns for me anyway  and its not great on brakes but TT will probably be the one to ask on this car.

Im around the low 2.10's in race pace but have done mid 2.09's when i get the that nasty bus stop right lol.

I thought the GT was a bit like the MC12, quite twitchy but steers in like mad.

CR6 is very good and great to drive, I think its weakness is that it doesn't exceed in anything, so not the best in anything, but very good in everything.

On line GTR2,how frustrating  never had a crash offline.

Mmmmm.
Had to rebuild my Pc the last few days!
Spent 2 hours tonight putting GTR back on!
Made it by the skin of my teeth with no set up / practice etc!
Not an ideal start to the season!
Had a coulple of hints in Practice/Quali that something was going on? Frame rate dropping very low.
Exited Quali and reduced all my settings.
Rejoined, all ok until Pouhon on lap 1 !
Low frame rate, pulled off track, exited to be safe for everyone else!
Thought it may be just me but tried an offline race as a test and all ok!
No rouge processes etc.

Will see what the rest of you think!?

M.

Dropped it with a tired and heavy right foot, these cars in the wet aren't very easy when you don't have great reaction speed, and then got utterly confused with buttons on the wheel, had pressed neutral when I thought it was the clutch, and accidentally engaged reverse when I wanted to go forwards; reversed further onto the track.

Seeing Dave enter the pits for repairs I think I collected you, very sorry, I certainly wasn't trying to reverse onto the track, just all fumble fingers.

After missing pit entry I finally got in but the 30 second pitstop clearly didn't repair anything, blah blah blah just awful.

Should've expected a wet race but I didn't give it a moments thought (or practice).

I did get some choppinness at times, frames dropped to 20 or so for a few seconds once.

Dammit !...was having a great race, got myself upto 10th with 9th just ahead and really flying but got a puncture right after the pit entrance which left me stuck up at La Source. Hobbled down the road and retired off into the safe area past the pits.  :'(

Couldnt believe it when i saw it was damp/wet. Had spent a load of time perfecting my setup today and was really looking forward to a strong race. However i completely forgot we now use variable weather for GT1 sprint and hadnt done a single lap damp or wet practise so didnt even have a setup for it  :taz:

Stuck a few notches of wing on and Intermediates and hoped for the best. Had early scrap with Dave until he unfortunately broadsided into a stranded team mates car at Malmedy  :o unlucky DG, looks like we could have had a race long fight.
Then had quick battle with Prof for a few laps and was losing tons of time behind him in the twisties...low wing? Got past and immediately went 1.5 secs quicker in the first sector !
Made up a 10 second deficit to catch the top 10 and was looking forward to the last 12 minutes of the race when i got the disastrous puncture. Dont even know how.  ???

Love the weather change though, despite being caught out by it, especially at Spa .  8)

Hehe, that was the most interesting finish, EVER!  ;D
2nd on start after RM, guess he and Busi made a wrong tyre choice. I decided to gamble and took slicks, same as the sneaky H@l, I guess. :D After RM spun, I got the lead. H@l was ever close, but could not pass.  :)  Race timer was getting towards 0 and I slowed down a bit to give it more time. Then I realized it's not gonna be :scared: and H@l passed me. Guess he was a bit  as he made a mistake on the top of the hill and I could get my 1st back which I managed to keep to the end.  :thumbup1:

Good stuff H@l, good tyre choice.  ;)

Where did all my Legends go?  ???  Bad luck, guys.  :(
Grats to third and all finishers.  :)

TT

Wow that was intense :o

I got comfortable with dry practise beforehand so was really disapointed when it turned out wet having done no wet weather driving. Realised that hard wets where going going to get too hot during the race as after a few laps in qually they were really high so decided to try inters on for the last lap or so before the session ended and once up to temp they didnt seem too bad.

During the race i did struggle with the tyres early on, they did seem to be better than wets but was struggling in the slower stuff until the tyres got upto to temp. Nearly got caught out by API as i was struggling, then slowly seems to catch Evert but couldnt do much then got mugged on the last lap for 7th.

Surprised myself tonight especially with no practise for a wet race. Realise i hadn't got 'simple debris colision' on last night, switched that on tonight and even with the low fps at times i had no problems.

Yeah, that and wrong tyres. The car felt fine in the faster bits but was rubbish in Sector 2 and got progressively worse. One of those races where the main difficulty was keeping concentration to keep going when in a big gap ahead and behind.

Well done to the podium and Pete for an excellent 4th with no practice or setup before race time.

Was 6th early on but then spun at the exit of the bus stop and dropped down to 9th >:(
After about half an hour my hard wet tires had no grip at all ???
Going on to the last lap I was 8th and caching the 2 cars in front of me.
Passed spanner at that corner with no name in-between rivarge and pouhon.
Then I caught evert going in to the bus stop for the final time.
He defended the inside line going in to la source but then ran wide and I slipped up the inside and moved in to 6th on the last corner!!!

When the race was not over I almost lost it at Eau Rouge,  :D

Great race, much fun. I was lucky with the tyres. Soft front slick and med slick rear.

Nice racing TT, I just could not get past.

Well done podium and everyone else :)

Most of us had no problems; make sure you've got shadows on minimum, they have more effect on stability and FPS than any other single thing. Also, if your internet connection isn't totally stable you will have occasional crashes.

Stuck a few notches of wing on and Intermediates and hoped for the best. Had early scrap with Dave until he unfortunately broadsided into a stranded team mates car at Malmedy  :o unlucky DG, looks like we could have had a race long fight.

It was shaping up to be a good one, wasn't it? I was surprised you didn't just rocket past on the Kemmel straight - I think once you'd found a way by you'd have disappear off into the distance.

Seeing Dave enter the pits for repairs I think I collected you, very sorry, I certainly wasn't trying to reverse onto the track, just all fumble fingers.

Just one of those things, I was too busy concentrating on MJ behind me and didn't see you broadside across the track until it was too late; hit the brakes and turned a certain head-on collision into a WWE-style bodyslam. ::) Unfortunately that bent the suspension so I had to crawl round to the pits for 90 seconds of repairs; in other circumstances I'd have quit, but I needed the testing miles ready for Upper Endurance so I carried on plugging away, initially with Steve to keep me honest.

Interesting race!

Had 2 ctd's one as the server clicked over to qually and one as i tried to rejoin. When i did get back in only had time for a couple of laps and had no idea what the track was like and hence put the wrong tires on so all i could manage was 12th.

Starting from 12th i thought bugger it and went for soft slicks on front and medium slicks rear as the track said damp (but it was still raining) and i remember the Zuhia  race where slicks were the way to go on damp track.

Started a little causious going through en rouge first time which almost let Steve Holmes get the drive on me for turn 3 and was expecting him to get past but maybe you remembered the last race you were behind me lol. Anyway started catching people and thought im on the right tires here as i was quicker than most ahead. Had a good clean high speed battle with Jose going into the Bus stop and got myself up to 4th and was catching Busi but realised my fuel was not gunna make it so backed right off for 2 laps desperately trying to get to the finish and maybe keep 4th but going round the last corner i had 0.2litres and Picnic got past as i coasted over the line.

Bit gutted with the qually problems and my fuel mistake but probably had more fun actually racing and passing cars starting further down.

Grats TT, h@l and Busi.

If I had my brain switched on, I would have figured out what you were doing TT and slowed as well so that Gazza would not run out of fuel.  ::)

Sorry Gazza :-\

I was on inters, which clearly weren't the best choice. Nevertheless they gave me the advantage at the start and I had a go at TT into Les Combes, he defended though and his tyres were up to operating temp after that so never had the chance again.

Then coming into La Source I was taking a look at the gaps and lost my braking point, went off and spend over 5 seconds to get away from there :'(

Down to 5th or 6th, luckily I could pass Pete and RM had an accident at Eau Rouge. At that moment BTW his car crashed and came into the middle of the track. I tried to avoid it but I made contact with his car. Should have been a huge accident for me but car was only gonna spin and I could control it with a quick reaction on the pedals  really scary moment I thought my race was gonna be over ;D

I kept pushing as hard as I could but TT and H@L were going away and Gazza was catching me! Could keep him behind though to take a podium :)

was surprised that people were able to fly using slicks last night. I thought it was possible to use them when only 'damp' but when i tried them in qually i had zero grip and they would not get any heat into them in the C6 Vette. When we went to grid for the race it flicked between damp and wet, and was still raining, so i went for the logical choice of Inters. They were okay in the race with decent temps and was able to do 2:17's mid race. I was looking forward to a great final 12 minutes as seemed to be reeling the next group of cars in rapidly.  :(

Still feel such a schmuck for not doing any wet practise beforehand...lesson learned !  :wetfish:

About track being damp/wet: I also didn't make any laps in the wet at Spa as the weather prediction said "Clear"  ::)  It's nice to have this unpredictable weather component, though. Gives a chance against the aliens.  :)  I experimented with wet settings in practice until I saw in chat it was damp and should dry out. Was quali time already, so I strapped my dry setup on and made good time, enough for 2nd place. I could probably make a better laptime, but I felt good enough and prefered to try the race setup. It was stable enough so I went to race with it, no ammends made, not even brake ballance or wing. I was a bit reassured in pre-race chat where H@l said he's gonna try with the slicks. I was of the same oppinion, but, you know, it was a bit of a lottery. Thank you, H@l.  ;D

I remember some seasons back when Rusky, Shark and other aliens were talking about having the same setup for wet and dry. I'm (slowly  ::) ) getting to the same conclusion. Ok, flood is extreme, but for a normal wet race you can get away with only tyre and brake ballance change - providing your dry setup is stable and makes the car act predictable.  :)

Ok, enough of the wise/hoch talk now.  :P
Bad luck, Legends, tech problems enabled those pesky Pseudododo team to take a lead.  :taz:

As usual I hadn't done a lot of practice. I did look at the weather around 7:30pm and the magic number was .15 in to wet so I did 3 practice laps offline at 20% wet in the C6R as earlier in this thread it was hinted at as not being too hard to drive (I don't do GT1 very much ;))

I'm rubbish at setups so I simply ran the C6R default with fuel set for the race during qualification and was mid pack on inters. Switched to Soft Slicks and the car felt so much better under braking, but if you got off the racing line woe is you. My team mates both went for inters but I braved it out and it worked for me. Bad luck Gazza with the fuel, I did wonder on that last lap if you were having issues.

I was on intermediates and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have enjoyed slicks!

Lower is GTC sprint and endurance.

Lower Endurance is GTC but Lower Sprint is GT2.

Totally agreed, I had done 0 practice on wet for yesterday but my only tweaks on the setup were tyres, brake pressure and one more click of rear wing. Had it not been for the tyre choice... :)

Certainly an eventful yet lonely race. Shocked to find we were racing in the "Damp" then it changed to "wet". Had to bail out half way through qually to reduce my settings as the rain was just battering my FPS. Finally got a qually lap in & was 2nd last on the grid... but amongst friends as Team Oldie occupied  three of the last four spots  ;D
Had an early off on the 1st proper lap, then was tanking it to try & catch up. Came round the corner & what looked like a police road blockade was waiting to ambush me. Still cold tyres/still cold brakes & water on the track meant I could do nothing but pile in . Car was not as damaged as I expected but my lap times suffered with the lack of grip on the front. Spent the rest of the race nowhere near anyone other then when people pitted, till with five laps to go... the car in-front was 50secs ahead but started leaking 10secs per lap to me. It was Matt, I'm not sure what happened, (maybe you thought I was lapping you or low fuel issues?) but you just seemed to leave the door wide open for me to come past under braking to the Bus Stop. So I got through there & held position going round la Source for 12th spot.

Separately, could anyone tell me why my 'Team Oldie Lister' is showing with Dunlop tyres? The other Lister was on Michelin's last night. While according to the game, all Lister's should be on Michelin's.  ??? Aren't Michelin's the better tyre too?

I did look at the weather around 7:30pm and the magic number was .15 in to wet  so I did 3 practice laps offline at 20% wet in the C6R as earlier in this thread it was hinted at as not being too hard to drive  (I don't do GT1 very much ;))
I wonder if you could return the 'easy car' hint favour (no problem ), with hinting to me where you saw that "magic number was .15 in to wet"? All I could see (& other people it seems) on the weather forecast link, was clear & zero mention of a chance of rain. I don't mind it being wet, if I'd have a sniff of a warning.  :)

I thought Dave had made the Generate Weather link available to everyone, it's to the right of the weather report link and is the source for the server starter.

That gives an initial condition, although what happens after is to some extent random.

Totally agreed, I had done 0 practice on wet for yesterday but my only tweaks on the setup were tyres, brake pressure and one more click of rear wing. Had it not been for the tyre choice... :)

Interesting, I normally up the pressures a little and maybe click the brake balance back by 0.5 or 1....but I normally do that on the track when I'm driving, not beforehand. Maybe add 1 to the rear wing....but I never touch the braking force - it's always on 100% and I always run 3 braking vents. Then again, TT beat me in my last wet race so I clearly have a lot to learn!

I would do these events, but I struggle to get back from work in time - so I expect to do enduro's instead.

Congrats to TT & Hal on the inspired tyre choice. I would likely have picked inters as well.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Jeff does this:

Quote
Dry setup - check
Drop slicks, stick on wets.
Go Go Go!

That's what you gotta aim for TT

I generally stay away from Rusky's advice as they tend to leave me miserably stuck in the armco... on the second lap. :D

I never change my setup between dry and wet apart from the Lowering the power setting on the diff and it always seems to work out OK for me....

except for yesterday...I tried inters all round.  They worked great on the front, i could break almost in the same place as if it was dry, but it quickly became clear that the rears were failing, it was quite shocking how quick they went off! I think it might be because the fronts were working so well, I nearly lost it a couple of times tuning into a corner so quickly the back end couldn't cope with it.

after the first few laps I had to back off a bit, and it wasn't long before TT was right behind me...thats when I lost the back end.  It was down hill after that, rejoined in 3 and was losing about 1 second per lap.

Then i lost the back end again at Eau Rouge, went wide onto the very slippery bit of tarmac, unfortunately, my team mate Jorgen was chilln' out  :P at the exit of the pit lane after a spin and I blundered into him, and I span into the track almost collecting Busi. Sorry bout that!  :-[  .....Race over.  Luckily at least Jorgen was able to finish the race.

Hopefully the enduro will go better as i had the pace to do well.

(yay i can now access this site from work!)

Interestingly i would have though you would want to raise the power side to help reduce wheel spin, improve traction?

However that and taking off the rear ARB di make it bit understeery, though the Aston was lairy in the dry so needed to calm it down a bit.

hmmn..

I've always found that increasing power increases wheelspin.  You dont want faster transfer of power (Torque) to the wheels in damp/ wet conditions...

...Heeelllooo tyre wall  :o

of course...I could be wrong as i'm not a gear head, but it works for me

I don't know what a diff is. So it stays on default

I was a bit lucky with the tyre choice as I thought that we would need wets until I accidentally did a lap in Qualy with drys. As it turned out the drys offered more grip. ;D

I had been playing around with the setup in qauly and reloaded my dry setup, put the wing up to 8 from 6, lowered the power in the diff by one setting and increased the coast in the diff by one setting. I then went out on track forgetting to change my medium slicks to wets.

At first I thought, these changes are really working. When I got back to the garage I realised what I had done. Judging by the temps that the tyres reached, I worked out that a soft front/medium rear combination should be best.

If I had not have tried the dry tyres by mistake in qualy then I would have been on wets tyres for the race as well :D

I think that wet tyres are not needed unless you are really struggling on drys. 10 seconds slower a lap or tyres going under 50C.

HOWEVER, the most important thing I change is my driving! It is after all the same car and the same track.

Driver with less mistakes gains positions.

Normally I don't do anything though cause I'm busy having a pee in the 2 minutes before the race. :D

LOL speaking for quite a few here I guess ;D

While we wait for next Sunday's race announcement, I gotta say something must be wrong here. We've been in the server for a while with J. Wahlby and more and it's clear that the DBR9 GTC car is not ok.

Z4 - 1:38.6
F430 - 1:39.5
Gillet - 1:40.0
Spyker - 1:40.0
DBR9 - 1:43.8

All laptimes are with a first attempt of race setup, same fuel for all, and around 8-10 laps of practice. Jorgen spent much more lapping in the DBR9 and could only manage a mid 43 too, so it's just way too slow for even attempting to battle with any of the other GTC cars.

Appologies to Lazlow for the bump into la Source, I braked what seemed very early, yet still ran into the back
with what appeared from my car to be just a tap, yet it bumped you round, and got you stuck against the inner wall
:hang: This was Legzy's police road block.

Was doing ok after that as several fell off, then i got ambitious somewhere, and wnet into a wall big style
some guy on the radio said I mightr expect "some understeer" lol, was like on 3 wheels, that was why I was
unstable and leaking 10secs a lap.
