Title: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Jack O'Ferrall on January 30, 2009, 12:27:03 AM +0000 UKGPL Season 16 - Inter-league race - Solitude
This is the tenth and last race in our current Inter-League season, and will use the 67 cars. Our guests will be the European Online Challenge, possibly the strongest league we'll race this season and 2009 will be their tenth year of racing. The race is scheduled at the usual earlier time of 20:00GMT. Each club is to field nine cars, and there are no chassis handicaps, drivers will be racing to complete the distance and score points for their team- on this occasion you have to avoid being lapped more than once to finish. We'll use the standard carset for this race. The start at Solitude can be very tricky, so extra caution may be required. Let's have the usual warm UKGPL welcome for our guests from EOLC! Please be in VROC UKGPL chatroom passworded 'Savage' by 19:55GMT, (You will need to set up a channel called #ukgpl if you haven't already done so) Vroc and Race passwords: see above (#post_event_password) Server EOLC server IP address Race date = 8-2-2009 Time = 20:00 GMT Track = Solitude Variant = 67F1 Damage Model = PRO Qually time = 30 minutes. Race length = 17 laps (complete 16 laps to score points as a finisher) Chassis assignments: I've left this for the team captain to complete. Lotus Ken Eagle Tim Ferrari Lorenzo Brabham John Brabham Hristo Honda Clive Cooper Phil Cooper Fulvio BRM Napo If you'd like to represent UKGPL in this race please post on the thread and advise what chassis you'd prefer. These have been the points scored by the team so far: John 80 Phil 71 Hristo 65 Storm 49 Lorenzo 48 Clive 42 Will 39 Glyn 34 Natan 19 Iestyn 17 Ken 16 Clive L 12 Mike W 11 Napo 11 Tim 11 Jack 11 Art 9 Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Hristo Itchov on January 30, 2009, 10:09:36 AM +0000 Appologies for blaming GPFun's server for my bad connection, it appears my ISP is providing bad service for the past week or so, it's usually been ok so I didn't think it was my end that's causing the warp.
Count me in for this one. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: EvilClive on January 30, 2009, 12:50:27 PM +0000 If you can tolerate the possibility of another DNF :-\ I will give it a go.
I think we need to get Ken Murray into our team for this one, ..from memory he loves Solitude, Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Turkey Machine on January 30, 2009, 12:51:56 PM +0000 Count me out for this one, I don't know the track at all, it'd take me too long to learn it effectively. I wish you good luck though. :)
Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: FullMetalGasket on January 30, 2009, 01:33:18 PM +0000 It must be at least 4 years since I drove this in a 67 :o
If you want me to run around at the back again like Monza (only hopefully a bit less off the pace this time :-[ ) then I'll start re-learning it as soon as I'm happy with a setup for Monza in the 65's ;D Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Phil Thornton on January 31, 2009, 12:00:50 AM +0000 I'd like to give this one a go, Solitude is one of my favourite tracks ATM.

Straitening out the second part of the lap so that I don't have to remember which tree is which would be great too. ;D But it won't help much. I shall be at Heathrow to put my son on a flight to Australia. Thinking about it, I may actually make it home in time but wife will have lost her one and only son for twelve months and will be a) feeling low and b) TURNING ALL HER ATTENTION ON TO ME!!!!! Still doesn't look good. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: FullMetalGasket on February 01, 2009, 01:04:04 PM +0000 :o Bad luck Clive ;)
Anyway, have been reacquainting myself with Solitude and have noted my lap times with a race worth of fuel to help whomever is being Capt :) Red times are cars I really don't enjoy racing here or crashed allot, yellow are cars I enjoyed or was just particularly good at not inserting into the scenery  White cars I don't mind either way, and all of the times qouted should in theory at least come down with some minor tweaks to the setup (or just more laps in most cases - I know I can get at least another second off the Honda with a clean lap) :) Cooper = 3:34.5 Honda = 3.35.7 BRM = 3.37.1 Brabham= 3.33.9 Eagle = 3.31.5 Ferrari = 3.32 Lotus = 3.30 Feel free to bung me in whatever you fancy ;D Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Ken Murray on February 02, 2009, 08:16:22 AM +0000 I suppose I should make an effort to turn out for this. I'd take anything but a Honda and only a BRM at a push!!

I opened an EOLC Server for training in solitude. In Vroc it's the EOLC3 Server: EOLC3 PW: soli IP: 217.172.189 : 32808 feel free to join! Patrick Edit: it's running 24hrs a day Edit2: If you want to join via IP in the race on sunday. We will presumably be racing on EOLC1. We're looking forward to the race, Solitude is among the favourite circuits of many of our drivers.
If there's no further volunteers by the end of today I'll be able to post our team. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Jack O'Ferrall on February 06, 2009, 12:05:26 AM +0000 I've posted the team. Napo gets the BRM, Fulvio makes his debut in the Cooper, Phil with the other Cooper, Clive returns to the Honda. John and Hristo have our Brabhams, Tim the Eagle and Ken the Lotus. Jethro has demurred on this occasion, I'm sure that he'll race for us next season, but we haven't a reserve if there are any further volunteers interested. EOLC will be very tough, so good luck!
Thanks to everyone who's raced for UKGPL, fortune hasn't always been on our side but over the season we've had some success. This will be the last time that I post a team- we want to organise the team from the start of next season, so that we don't have to recruit for each race. Couldn't connect at first, then copied your settings above into my core.ini, still couldn't get in! Restored my original .ini then had a nose about the settings in Vroc and selected the fast bandwidth settings as Fulvio did - worked fine so I presume I'm good to go on Sunday? :) Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: fpolicardi on February 06, 2009, 04:54:28 PM +0000 net_mdm_client_send_every = 3 ; Client packet freq on dialup

If I hadn't sliced off 2 wheels misjudging the jump on the back straight I could have lapped the field ;D
I'm just off to search for any graphical/AI updates, anyone know what the best ones are incase I miss them? :) Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: EvilClive on February 06, 2009, 07:38:58 PM +0000 If you are using GEM to manage your connections Tim, there is a way to increase the AI speed.
If you select "Race" on the left hand side, a selection menu appears below, one of the settings is "AI speed" I have never used it but presumably it will make them quicker? Might go and try it myself now ::) Also somewhere I have seen a parameter that allows you to match the AI speed to your own, but can't remember where that is :-\ UPDATE!! Just found it in Gem Click on "Configure" button at top centre of Gem start screen then tick "Link AI speed to player" Should do the trick, now they will keep up with you however fast you go..lol that could get VERY VERY irritating!! if you can never beat them. ;D Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Ken Murray on February 07, 2009, 09:35:57 AM +0000 Just had an offline race as practice - god are the AI slow here! net_mdm_client_send_every = 3 net_mdm_client_send_size = 84 net_mdm_server_send_every = 3 net_mdm_server_send_size = 384 net_server_port = 0 ; Server port number (0 = default) net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip = 1 ; Use modem bandwidthfor TCP/IP and then select use core.ini settings in VROC you will always be able to connect to any server. as long as the net_mdm_server_send_size value is set higher on the client side than on the server side then the server setting will overide and you will connect. I have had these settings for years and have always connected to every server I've tried. If you ever host however you may want to revise them unless you have a very good connection. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: fpolicardi on February 08, 2009, 09:20:09 PM +0000 I had to retire while I was in a good position behind the two EOLC Cooper. Just before the hump on the long straight there was a Ferrari that hit a tree end flight over me and the Cooper in front of me, scary moment :o
Soon after the Cooper spun at the hairpin braking on the right side and to avoid him I had to brake on the left and clipped grass loosing control and hit a tree loosing a wheel :( I'm very disapponted cause I like the track and till that moment I hadn't do any mistake. Oh well, next one. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: FullMetalGasket on February 08, 2009, 09:26:31 PM +0000 Bugger. :(
Gained 2nd early on due to accidents ahead, was nice and safe eeking out a couple of tenths per lap on the car behind. Then WHAM! lost concentration and ended up on my head outside Cafe Glemstal  Really gutted at this as my points would have helped somewhat due to the number of our team I'd seen disco during the race, When I left the server only John was left. We were thrashed :-[ I was really enjoying it too up till that point.... Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Ken Murray on February 08, 2009, 09:40:34 PM +0000 Big apology, again!!!
Qually not bad at 3:26, just behind Hristo. Got away ahead of Hristo but he scythed through when the Eagle in front was sliding all over on cold tyres. I wasn't as brave, or skilled, so I was still behind the Eagle starting lap 2 and I spoiled both his and my race by rear ending him at T1. It was only a slight touch but enough to spin us both and allow the pack through. Then I was following a bunch of cars but there is no where to pass. The Cooper in front took a defensive line in to cafe glemstell and I went down the outside but just skimmed his wheels and I slid in to the bales. More cars through!! Set off with an open road at last and promptly spun in to the trees trying to catch up. All in all a pretty poor performance. :( Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Patrick_Kess on February 08, 2009, 09:49:39 PM +0000 Results:

Great event! I have had a great race, with some scary fights with John Roberts. Prebluda says "J.Roberts" and I thought I was racing Julia ;-) After I finaly passed John and pulled a gap I dissided to slow down abit. Ok .............. thats not the way to do it! I lost concentration, and turnd up side down at FrauenKraus (or something like that). Thanks for organising this event admins, and all drivers for racing! Hope to meet you all again sometime. Greetings Pedro vd Berg. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Phil Thornton on February 08, 2009, 10:23:17 PM +0000 Thanks for the race! Thank you Patrick. A comprehensive win for your team. Well done.Like most of my team mates I crashed out :(. Solitude requires 100% concentration and a good rhythm. I lost concentration somewhere around Spitzklinge and drifted up the banking. I only made minor contact with the greenery but it was enough to loose both offside wheels. Grats to John. The only UKGPL finisher and top scorer for UKGPL in the Interleague races! Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Napo on February 09, 2009, 06:58:35 AM +0000 I'm sorry guys! I didn't do any practice and this track was new to me. Havn't been racing gpl in a while so I was rusty. Crashing into that tree was inevitable.
I'll be better prepared next time out :) Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: john roberts on February 09, 2009, 07:29:26 PM +0000 I have had a great race, with some scary fights with John Roberts. Prebluda says "J.Roberts" and I thought I was racing Julia ;-) Not just a pretty face :P sorry to say i was pretty much a mobile chicane on the twisty 2nd half of the track, how i didn't crash on that part of the track is beyond me . the fast outward part of the track i wasn't to bad , soli is one of those tracks that is just too narrow for most overtaking ... especially with me in front sliding all over the track ! john Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: EvilClive on February 09, 2009, 07:51:55 PM +0000 Hmmmm, yes I was aware of that in the early stages John and put it down to cold tyres for the first two laps, along with your usually cautious and measured approach to these races. ::)
I almost committed the cardinal sin of taking both of us out of the race after a few laps when ( to me at least :-\) you seemed to slow down when I expected you to be hard on the gas. A quick detour through the grass and dust avoided the collision, and the armco, and I followed you for another lap. Then, bu**er me lol, I was caught out again in the same place!!, but this time I think there was some warp contact and it spelt the beginning of the end for my race as there was damage to my steering/suspension which got progressively worse as I repeatedly clipped barriers etc. I agree with comments posted earlier that Solitude is a track that demands 100% concentration at all times, there is nowhere to rest as even the flat out section isn't straight!! and as for those twisty bits..if you miss your apex on one corner then the next three are compromised and its no good trying to maintain maximum attack. Big thankyou to EOLC and a comprehensive thrashing of UKGPL except for John who at least prevented a total whitewash. Maybe next time........... ::) Title: Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008-9) - Solitude - EOLC - Feb 8 Post by: Jack O'Ferrall on February 11, 2009, 10:28:31 PM +0000 The last Interleague race of the season was against EOLC, 17 gruelling laps of Solitude. Thanks to Patrick for organising the race from the EOLC side. There were only five finishers and four of them were EOLC drivers- congratulations to them and to Mark for the win and Kelvin and Ronald who completed the podium. John was the UKGPL driver who finished, also claiming the title of top points scorer over the season.
EOLC 18+17+16+14= 65pts UKGPL 15pts EOLC are able to field at least four grids of 67 cars on their race nights, whereas we had to scramble nine drivers together at the last minute, so our grid positions were quite good- despite Carsten's attempt on the Solitude records! Had we brought even our usual 4-5 drivers home we would have been close, however everyone seemed to enjoy the race anyway. The rematch will be the last race of next season, in July. Final points tallies for the season: John 95 Phil 71 Hristo 65 Storm 49 Lorenzo 48 Clive 42 Will 39 Glyn 34 Natan 19 Iestyn 17 Ken 16 Clive L 12 Mike W 11 Napo 11 Tim 11 Jack 11 Art 9 We will attempt to implement registration for these races in season 17 and to build a stronger and more settled team. However, if you have any other suggestions on organisation, it might be helpful to present them before registration begins.
