Could be a slightly hectic night of racing..tried the Healey in an AI race and managed to spin twice in the first 5 laps.  I know I'm not that great on tight twisty tracks but that's not a great sign for clean racing - it's just as narrow as Monaco, tailbacks did occur, until I reversed into a void and fell..........

Managed to get down to 1:00.1 in qually so the guys better at tight tracks will be well down in the 59s, hopefully I can break 1 minute.

For me, every season should include a spin around a tight street circuit but don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to race on one every week. I think its up to us too race cleanly, this car choice should help (Alpine drivers have to be wary in braking zones mind) and I am hopeful that this will be at least as much fun as the recent run at Monaco.

Disappointing not to see you last week and hope you make this one Steve  :)

I aim to be there Ian, providing I'm not going to be a liability on track.  ;)  I would have been at Mid-Ohio.

I think this ones a bit to tight for good racing tho, still as long as we all give way for each other there shouldn't be a problem

For those out there that have not seen this track yet, I just found this video for a bit of advance scouting:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhRNvB6OMao
(fast forward the first 30secs, unless you're into ACDC  ;))

Looks like there are a few unexpected corners that look like you should be going straight on at  :death:

Thx to that video I've just spent a hour wallowing in Youtube ACDC nostalgia :) Loved it.

Hope to see a few of you online morrow for usual pracci session but hope you still stay when I beat your times then, sore bunch on there tonight  ;) I really like that track as it really flows in the Healey, maybe its the chassis to beat? First time for everything. 59.6 best so far.

Is Oily back with us?

Yeah had seven on there tonight (all on team-speak, except antisocial Ian ;)), great track, great car choices, great fun!
When I had to sign off (in shame, as SBG was arguably quicker), all seven of us (though Blunder had left by that point) were within a 1 second spread from 59.5 to 1:00.5 & using three of four the car choices!!!

Nice one SBG, great match up. I'll be on tomorrow night, hopefully from about 9pm, for anyone that fancies lapping in company?

Heheh yep back with bells on Ginsters - so nice to be racing online again, no offence to the developers but the offline game sucks ass when you want to practice some racecraft.

Great to experience that unique blend of Team Oldie motivational talk for the first time on TS last night - look forward to catching everyone on again this eve.

Just had a quick test run with all of the cars on the list:

Ferrari 250: High 1:03s/Low 1:04s
Austin Healey: 1:03s (I think I managed one 1:02.8)
Renault A110: 1:03s/1:04s
Aston Martin DB4: couldn't finish a lap with

Tried the rest of the GTC-65s as well, and managed 1:03s with the Shelby 350GT. Thought it'd be miles off the pace here. :-\

Even more wierd:
Ford GT40: 1:01
Austin Mini Cooper S: 1:01

sadly i have to sit this one out. i tried the track in each of the cars, but always finished in something resembling a beetle due to bad frame rate and my inability to memorise the track.
i'm also in some turmoil with my job hunt........i have been offered a job.......great........it's in germany.......mildly disappointing........they want me to start 01.03..........panic..........i also need a car........pleasing..........i have to sort out my life.............disturbing
i hope to take part in the next one though.

This will be my first attempt to join a GTL event with UK.  Looking forward to it.

I'll just sit at the back and try not to get in anyone's way.

Edit: RATS!  I'm a reserve driver for a local auto parts supplier and I've just taken a call from work to report immediately for someone who's called in ill.  I'll have to postpone my debut.  Sry.

Welcome Doni. It's such a short lap this track Doni, you'll just end up getting lapped multiple times very quickly if you just sit at the back. You'd be better (& no doubt enjoy it more) driving at your normal pace (however fast/slow that is, usually someone will be about the same) & just be sensible when other cars are around (especially on lap one!). Look forward to seeing you on the grid  8)

Going to have to have a quick try in the Healey tonight in practice - couldn't get below 1m in the Alpine.  I'm hopeless at setting these things up though.

Came round acorner and someone was in the middle of the track, i hit them flipped over noticing cars coming round and tried to Esc out in time. I know GTL doesnt have the greatest of damage models but i didnt want to treat it like dodgems as there isnt really room to try and turn around.

Cant wait to get some proper cars on a proper track :P

Shame I was rather looking forward to this one.
Got shoved from behind into T1 lap 1, and as the Aston has no brakes I could not then slow fast enough
so apologies to anyone I pushed. Sat at the side of the road in shame for a bit, set off near back
caught and passed a few, had a good chase with Geoffers, then eventually passed him, and then promptly
bent something against something, too tired to race tonight probably.

First sorry for Tim Robey (finally got it right), who I tapped a little so he spun, waited for him to pass me, dropped from 3rd to 6th but after the incident had a good fight with Ade I remember he was, he was faster in straights and I caught him during the twistier parts. Then I blew it on the last lap, spun and got someone else to ram my wreckage cause I was trying to get going again, then realized that I just am causing trouble, someone crashed on me, I pressed esc too late, sorry! Grats to all who made to finish, and of course the podium!

Sorry guys for that gremlin. Was in the pit so didn't see chat. Thnx for the call.
Was driving the UKGTL ($1) Ferrari 250... don't know why it gave problems.
Nice first part of race until some contact.
Then cat decided it wanted in the room, got distracted, totalled the Healey in first corner.
Got the Healey back to the pits on 3 wheels; if I upset anybody's race with that, then plz file complaint.
After 120 sec pitstop, it was just bringing it home...... 3 laps back.
Apologies if I didn't get out f the way immediately. Was watching the mirrors vigorously, but track does not have a lot of racing lines  :-\

Race just summarized the rest of the week.. :-X

Think the problem was the track tonight PR, way to tight even though alot of fun.
Didnt think i would get pole as i hadnt done any practice .  Gota good start and had the BIG advantage of a clear track. Ade was doing similar laptimes the whole race so coildnt rest or make a mistake which was tough as i bent my steering on lap 3.
Grats to rest of podium. And thanks to all the lappers who let me through when they were in there own battles. ;)

Portland should be better ,great track!!

Cheers

A rather frustrating race and an all round poor effort from me. Got caught in the first lap melee and stalled the car which was a shame since as I managed to get knocked into the wall facing the wrong way. I rejoined in last, rather irritated and the reflected in my driving for the rest of the race.

Had quite a few knocks and crashes with the circuit barriers and other people - sorry to those involved. Although it must be said I had a habit of coming off second-best so serves me right I guess! Guess i'll have to make amends next race.

Will keep it short and not so sweet, grats podium but apologies once again Ade, realise I might have cost you a win tonight. Plus whoever got caught up in the mess I caused in the first chicane. Got all excited doing some side by side stuff but the talent quickly ran out - should know by now it's not won on the first lap - even around a street circuit.

Anyway some justice was served and I ran out of fuel on the last lap running fourth behind Ade who was just uncatchable tonight.

Thanks backmarkers, looked like a nightmare for you, cheers TS people and grats podium of course.

Off to get a spanking from the stewards - roll on Portland.

Not a very good one that, had a reasonable quali, seeing as i'd only driven the track for the first time half an hour before the session started  ::) , but the race was littered by some shocking driving (I'll be looking at the replay) but also by some very hard but fair driving, I made a couple of mistakes which resulted in me hitting some people under braking for which I'll be reporting myself and I suggest those who were guilty of some poor judgement do the same.

Sad to hear of connection problems. It seems to be related to the 250 even though Alex was using a standard skin and we had no problems with them previously. Thx to him for swapping cars and I felt real bad when he crashed whilst flashing me through  :'( If you believe in karma, the next race will be deservedly yours. Thx again.

Two races two put offs, what is happening on our leagues?   >:(

PR and all others please report any incidents as I certainly don't want to see races ruined and I don't think anyone can use the track as an excuse.

Its got to be said that my experience was the opposite. Everyone was exemplary in quali, pulling over to let hotlappers through etc and the race wasn't much different. Almost all used their mirrors. However, some didn't (no excuses really) and I will not mention a certain someone for, well. Reports will be needed unfortunately.

Think you've been unlucky PR and, whilst I appreciate its not perfect and want to deal with it, standards have been good. Its just takes one mistake to ruin it for some unlucky punters. I'm bound to be thumped in next race now  :)

Results in and replay in normal slot.

Really tough circuit for back markers this one!  Having made up about 10 places on the first lap by threading through the carnage, I got pushed into a spin on the final corner of the first lap which set me to the back of the field and really didn't recover from there.

Spent most of my race trying to get out of the way of the people lapping me so I hope I did better on this race than my previous one from that perspective!

Great fun though.

Cheers, Ross.

Post by: Geoffers on February 20, 2009, 09:47:13 AM +0000
Similar race to Ross really for me. Negotiated all the carnage on lap 1 & was running around 8th but someone tapped me into a spin at T1 on the second lap. Got held up by a big pile up a couple of corners later & never really recovered. Probably tried too hard to make up ground & had several collisions with the barrier.

Ran into the back of Syd at T1 when his lagging car suddenly appeared in front of me & finally had a big off when I totally missed the braking point for the LHer by the warehouse. Had enough by then & retired.

I just can't drive accurately enough for street tracks & always end up having loads of collisions with the barriers, so will probably skip street tracks in future.

Congrats to Dan & my teammates SBG & Ade. Will try & give you more support at Portland

I'm trully sorry, but as i am doing for almost 3 years here at SROU, i will keep not reporting incidents,
because i see them all as unintentional.

But it is really frustrating that the 2 first races been ruined in a total of 5.
This time before the very first corner i dropped from 8th to 23th (last one on track).

IMHO, there is some drivers that are exaggerating on the first 2 laps to conquer positions.
There is no need to do so in 40 minutes of race.
Incidents will always happen (we are simply humans) but what hurts a bit is not having a simple
sorry even a little one.

That's why you should be reporting them - if you get a "sorry", it means the lesson has probably been learned and no report is needed. But without one, that person will probably the message that such driving is okay and that they will continue to get away with it - only if you report it will they learn.

sadly ive noted some driving standards have slipped lately at srouk for both modern and classics  :(  people pulling out of the pits in front of cars on a flying lap in qually, blocking/baulking cars on a hot lap even when they have screwed their own laps up, robust overtaking moves to muscle their own position for a hotlap etc. Some are just newish-driver related but not always. Not a good new development.

Should we be filing reports on incidents like that in qually sessions as well as races?

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 7 - Bayfront Park - Feb 19
Post by: mr_oily on February 20, 2009, 11:17:32 AM +0000
I've admittedly had a couple of shockers so not ideal timing to comment but overall the standard of driving here is still the best I've seen on my travels and nobody's actually malicious - just my opinion from what I'm seeing but I don't think we're on some slippery slope at all....every driver in every racing league, real or virtual has the odd blip!

If there's really outrageous stuff going on, yes, but bear in mind that without replays from those sessions all we can really do is remind folks about the expected etiquette as part of the moderating process.

Post by: Mark J on February 20, 2009, 11:51:03 AM +0000
no nothing outrageous or malicious, but definitely erring on the inconsiderate/selfish and definitely grid position costing. Just not gentlemenly...what what  :euro:  ;D Im sure its a temporary blip on the usually excellent standards here.

For some other reason, qually sessions have become oddly fragile connection wise too. Several drivers keep getting disco'd usually in groups (it seems) and yet then its stable all through the race.  ??? Any ideas? Would it be that people are joining/re-joining causing the already fragile net code to fall apart?

As an onlooker (I am Ades unwanted race engineer) I have definately seen some very ungentlemanly conduct with certain drivers, genuine mistakes are swiftly followed by a heartfelt apology (like Oily last night) ..... but there are certain pigheaded bullies out there that just ram and block for no reason.. and have never offered even a hint of a sorry... ruining folks races.. I say we kill them!!

That race certainly was wild! But I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Qually went well, new PB but still stuck at the back of the grid, no bad thing....

I took it easy on the first first few laps, trying to look after the car. Had a some fun battles with my fellow backmarkers, although with Syd warping badly in front of me caused me a few hairy moments, particularly with not seeing the leaders trying lap me.

Yes dynosaur you did push me into the wall, as I was racing Wilts Tony I was going to let you by in the next straight. Never mind. I won't be reporting that one as you've apologised and waited.

After that I tried to keep well out of the way of any lapping cars.

And finally my motor died 5 laps from the finish, don't think I ran out of fuel so dunno what happened there :(

For some other reason, qually sessions have become oddly fragile connection wise too. Several drivers keep getting disco'd usually in groups (it seems) and yet then its stable all through the race.  ??? Any ideas? Would it be that people are joining/re-joining causing the already fragile net code to fall apart?
ooh dear, don't remember it being a problem before P&G classics racing was introduced  :whistling:
...leaves quietly  :shifty:

(obviously this is a joke & not a real suggestion  :))

or it could just be the new car sets have got some errors in them  :whistling:  ;)

P&G 'should' be a completely different install to GTR2 (if everyone followed the install instructions) so cannot see how it would influence other sim racing in any shape or form.  :-\

That race certainly was wild! But I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Forgot to mention that I enjoyed that as well  :) Very, very different to our normal fair (in a good way) what with difficult lapping (for both parties), total concentration needed and more yellows than normal made it nerve shredding/thrilling for me. Makes it almost worth normal post street circuit race aggro  :)

I'm with Oily and do rather see last nights events as unusual (although I thought standards were good, especially in difficult quali session) but perhaps that will slap us outta any complacency and things will get even better for all till end of season. Or Gothwitch will be knocking on your door.

I think the standard of driving here is very good, Of course everyone makes mistakes and makes the wrong decisions now and again but these are decisions that are made in a split second .  Every driver has different characteristics some are aggressive and not very fair, some are aggressive but fair, some love to have a clean battle even if its for last place.
None of the "aggressive/bad driving"  in my opinion is intentional  just competitiveness and people getting a bit too excited ,cant knock people for that!!

Ive done loads of stupid things but not on purpose just the wrong decision at the wrong time...but hopefully i learn.

Still the cleanest league around i say.  ;)

Came round acorner and someone was in the middle of the track, i hit them flipped over noticing cars coming round and tried to Esc out in time.

Sorry Spanner, watched the replay just now and this was caused by me.  I'd spun and before I could do anything I'd been hit by Sandor Mooijekind and then you hit him.  My mistake as I'd just lost the backend of the car at a horrible place on the track.

So apologies to both you and Sandor.

Cheers, Ross.

Watched replay now, and I did at the time say sorry to anyone I pushed, that happened to be you PR
Having been bumped around a bit myself a few seconds before, and having usually late braking Alpines to both
sides and in front (though I did not know who they were) I was concentrating on the cars to the side more
than in front, and was not expecting to outbake a high grid slot driver in an Alpine with my Aston...
Please accept my sincere appologies, it was entirely my fault. :hang:

One addition to this, Tim, it was totally my fault, I drove too close and the Alpines brakes didnĀ“t work as effectively as I thought they would If I would have known that I would have stayed farther away and waited for a better chance.

Had a good race here, lots of fun. Pleased with the team Oldie 6th, 7th & 8th place finish (though we were at 3rd, 5th & 6th for a while).

I think on a track like this, a couple of people needed to show a little more patience when looking to overtake people, but on the whole I thought it was very good (once we got past lap one!).

Forgot about this one, couldn't quite hit my PB in quali even so that wouldn't get me in front of Dan the man, so started second on the grid :o lost a place at the start to SBG  ( id like to put it down to being a bit  too cautious for the first lap) ;) T 1 went OK but T2 and 3 seemed a bit Oily under foot, but he soon dropped back ;) rest of the race went OK except i caught a few chaps as they spun out :o sorry about that. Glad Tibbs got on with my setup 8) had my work cut out trying to catch you :o (that's it, the next setup i upload  will have 1 forward gear and 4  reverse) ;) nice one Tibbs  8) good lap time there mate. I'm happy with a 3rd place ;D bring on the alien probing :o

Ooops.. almost forgot, that was SBG on your tail Dan not me(although its nice to be mistaken for a good driver, again)

                                                            Cheers Ade
