Ooh, yes please. *raises hand*

Like the look of that calendar, and I love Spa. Never tried Albi, though I have the track and it's installed. Surprised to see so many Papy tracks in that calendar though, personally thought there'd be more addons.

50% GP distance at Pro level will make things interesting this year; the emphasis on staying on the track and the slight endurance factor will probably change the way people approach races this year.

Of course Hristo's likely to win most of them and make very few mistakes! :P

I must be m..m...m...mad suh.....but better go play with the fast boys. And long races are enticing, gives you time to settle into some kind of plan. Not good at short sprints.
Lookin' for a few of last season's novices to step up as well, come on.....you know you want to.  ;D
Geoff.

ooh yeah, nearly forgot.....As a Clark-Hill Racing Team member..I better have the Lotus, or face the wrath of the sponsors......Wish we had some.......

I'd like to try my hand here too.  As Geoff said to me in a PM, the best way to get better is to race faster drivers.

Not overly fussed on what chassis but would like to try something different than the BT11 that I was in for S16.

Could be fun to go with the Lotus to share setups with Geoff (who I normally end up practising with) and maybe get some good close racing.

Hi Hezemans

If you are very new to GPL you might be better off in the Novices (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5867.0) race.  Same cars, same time, same track list, different server.  Do you have a GPL Rank?  If so what is it?

Cheers

Phil

oh, and welcome to UKGPL  ;)

After my poor showing last season Loot has invited me to consider the damage to the reputation of British engineering- but since that's hardly his strong suit and the weaponmaster hasn't effected a noticeable improvement in his fencing skills, it'll be the P261 again.

Unless the requirements of the competition entail otherwise, that is- while we'd prefer drivers to race for their teams, Hristo is a little quick for the RA272 under the current format, and the same imperatives apply to the back of the grid.

Hezemans, if you're still learning then the Novices is probably a better option.  We run practice servers before the 65 races, which should help decide- the Amateurs is pro racing though (no resets), and the Novices int.

Yes, Dave, I realize that and also didn't notice that we have to specify our prefered chassis, but since the aim is to get a balanced field I'm leaving it to the moderators. I suppose my choice lies between Cooper and BT7 anyway. Just don't give someone fast much better chassis please...

Was that little sideswipe aimed at me Hristo? :P I'm slower than you - you know it, I know it, everybody here knows it! On that subject, I've been practicing with the BT11 to re-acquaint myself with it (it was the first car I tried with the 65 mod, then I saw the BRM light), and I like the way it handles - solid, if unspectacular.

Hezemans, the Novices might not have many P261s, so you could use one of your preferred chassis instead.

You can compare your laptimes with last season's races here: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=193&theme=6 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=193&theme=6)  Click on the flag for the Spa report.  You'd be more competitive on the Novices grid.

You can also navigate to last seasons races by using the UKGPL Races link, then there's links to the various series at top middle.  The 65s were 'S16n'.

You have probably already though about this but, if interest is such that you get over subscribed in amateurs I don't mind running a slower car in Novice if it evens the grid numbers out in both divisions.  Although my preference for my own improvement would be am's.

That's a kind offer Steve and one which I would prefer not to take you up on as you have been "brave" enough to make the move up of your own accord (with some barracking from Geoff).

However,  with 17 registered so far for Amateurs and 12 for Novices it may be that it will be for the best if you do move back down.

No decision yet though but we'll decide early this week.

Ditto for me.....Ams is looking real top heavy at the moment. I'll run a slower car in novice if necessary, as 16-17 drivers on a numptyless grid in Amateurs would afford the faster drivers some clear air and track to drive in/on. And a full Novice grid would be quite desireable. Might have to get reaquainted with the Honda, or meet the BT11 seriously for the first time. What ever you decide I'm fine with...
Geoff.

The patch WILL be allowed but it is optional not mandatory (trying to police it's non-use is practically impossible).  Dave will make an announcement and I'll update the rules.

The grids have evened out somewhat Steve.  I've provisionally allocated you a Cooper in the Novices, though perhaps that should be a BT7 with your Soggie teammates, or even a BT11, which I wouldn't object to if you don't want to setup another chassis.

However, if your preference is for the pro grid there shouldn't be any problem with that.  I would expect numbers in the Amateurs to drop slightly during the season, though this should be offset by drivers moving up.

I've recently moved over from the ADC to get away from the shift-R/reset thingie.  Too often relied on by some to make up for dodgey driving.

A T77 or BT7 would suit me just fine, thanks.   :)

Welcome Donnie, nice to see you over here too.

OK thanks Dave.  I would like to try a different chassis to the BT11 this season, so don't mind the Cooper or BT7 at all.  Once I start in either Novice or Amateurs, I'd like to stay there though.  So whatever you guys would prefer, I'm easy whichever division.  If it is to be Novice, I have not registered in that vote, but would prefer not to be in as reserve should the swap be requested at this late stage (if that makes sense ;)).

I'm looking forward to my first event with the UKGPL.

I've checked my spa folder for the track.ini and see that I have a 'track65.ini' available.  Will we be using this file?  I've noted that the grid is a parallel layout which might be cause for instant retirements should things go wrong at the start.  If the club would like, I'd happily provide a re-write with a staggered pattern that allows each runner to see every car starting ahead.  I've done this many a time for the ADC and it always seems to be welcomed.  In fact, the ADC used it for a recent round featuring GP66 cars at Spa.  Worked a treat.

Also, for my personal benefit, I'm locating my pitguy out at 10.0 1200.00 as opposed to the standard location in the pits.  This gives me adequate time to read the data without compromising a pass into Eau Rouge, tricky enough at the best of times.  It also puts up the just completed lap time.  I can provide a re-write featuring this as well.  Your call, Mr. Director.  :)

Thanks for the offer Doni but we are already using a 1x1 staggered grid for all league races (at least we should be, it will be down to a cock up if we don't).

Ah, thanks then, Phil.  The starts are a bit dodgey at the best of times.  :)

For those like me who don't use Prib and/or wish to position their pitguy & board at the place I suggested above, you may alter your 'track65.ini' file by:

1. Save a copy for backup in another location or rename it, 'track65_org.ini' or some such name.
2. Open the service file and cut this portion, "pit_board = -16.6 13939.6 -100.0 100.0" from the line: "pit_board = 10.0 1200.0 -100.0 100.0      ; dlat of board, dlong of board, dlong LOS start, dlong LOS end (last 2 not used)".
3. Add a line below the pit board datum and paste in the bit you just cut, "pit_board = 10.0 1200.0 -100.0 100.0".
4. In front of this new line, place a semi-colon, ";" to render the line as a comment only.  You do this only to have the original data readily available to swap back in if needs be and to serve as reference for any subsequent position alterations.
5. In the original line for the pitboard, install the following: "pit_board = 10.0 1200.0 -100.0 100.0".  You can do a simple copy/paste from this very line to avoid an error.  No quotes, of course.
6. Your full pitboard line should now read, "pit_board = 10.0 1200.0 -100.0 100.0      ; dlat of board, dlong of board, dlong LOS start, dlong LOS end (last 2 not used)".
7. Save the file.

Test before the race.  You should find the pitguy on the left side of the road just shy of the right-hand bend leading up to Les Combes.  Give him a wave as you roar by.  Speeds are not so great there that there's plenty of time to read the information.

Good Luck!

Doni

PS: Let the buyer beware!

Hiya, Geoff!

Hello, Fulvio!

Nice to see some familiar faces.

On re-reading my post above re the pitguy re-location, let me clarify the script in the 'track65.ini' file by posting the actual entries I'm using.  Here they are c/w the rem line denoted with the semi-colon.  Hope that avoids any confusion.

pit_board = 10.0 1200.0 -100.0 100.0      ; dlat of board, dlong of board, dlong LOS start, dlong LOS end (last 2 not used)
;pit_board = -16.6 13939.6 -100.0 100.0

Best of Luck, Gys!  :)
