With a Ferrari of course :taz: Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Phil Thornton on February 18, 2009, 11:44:53 PM +0000 Im in, I give this ago. I think you're probably a bit quick for this division Burt. You're probably better suited to the Amateurs race (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5866.0). However it will be up to the Divisional mods (Jack and Mike) to sort out the 65s into 2 well matched groups.Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Jack O'Ferrall on February 18, 2009, 11:57:46 PM +0000 There's some overlap between the two divisions. You can race with the slower drivers if you'd prefer Burt, though you'd be in one of the slowest chassis, or you could have one of the fastest chassis in the senior division. However, if you want to remain with the Novices you should try the BT7 out!
Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Burtoner on February 19, 2009, 12:59:55 AM +0000 well i as referring to my results of season 16, only had 1 podium but didnt race much then working late, and as you say i feel im in between, im happy to take a slower car, at least racing would be close, more exciting then likes of Hristo etc.
I maybe pretty good in 67s as we all know looking at clubmans each season, but 65s,66s, and 69s i hardly race much of them and really need to spend more time on this than 67s i feel. Im sure Clive Loynes can shed some light when we have Breasts race most thursdays in 66s. Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Hristo Itchov on February 19, 2009, 01:56:19 AM +0000 at least racing would be close, more exciting then likes of Hristo etc. Hey, I thought I'm exciting! On the track anyway... :D I think with car handicaps you can have equal chances in both divisions really. Especially on those with longer straights (which you'd love if you come in Amateurs and probably hate if you stay in Novices, given that you're put in something like the BT7 ;D ). Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Iestyn Davies on February 19, 2009, 02:43:04 AM +0000 I was going to add an ironic post about being put in an F2 car but then actually remembered 67 Advanced Trainer is quite near to 65 pace ? Anyway, nice to see the novice division flourishing ;) Yeah I've done some F2 leagues in the past. 65s have more grip in the corners but lose on acceleration, so overall it's quite similar pace. I've clicked in the poll at the top (at least 75%), but my internet froze when i did it. When i logged back in the voting buttons had disappeared so i assume i have registered. (please let me know if not - Thanks) Car choice: First choice would be the Brabham BT11 (Please!!) Second choice would be a Ferrari Also how do i go about starting a team? Myself and NHance (who should also have registered for the 65 novices) were thinking of starting a team of 2 for a bit of fun (as we're quite new to all this online racing stuff). NHance will no doubt think of a name. Is this possible? Many Thanks to all at UKGPL and looking forward to my first full season online. Clutch Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: NHance on February 19, 2009, 08:48:19 PM +0000 I've registered in the poll. Preferred car is Brabham BT 11. Second choice is Lotus . Clutch & I would like to register a 2 driver team. The team name to be named Mountside Racing. Please let us know if we have to do anything extra to complete team registration. Clutch will have mentioned this in his post but I have chosen the team name. Looking foreward to the season.

After my debut on the last race of Season 16 with just 4 laps of fuel I'm going to up the anti & use a full tank. Preferred chassis is the BRM. If anyone else is running BRM in the Novices and doesn't mind sharing setups / tips etc. please let me know. I have played GPL for about 5 years and would like to give online play a go. I would like to race in the Eagle please. Hi JamesWelcome to UKGPL! Racing on-line is sooooo much better than racing the AI ;D. You are probably novice material but please compare your lap times with those of the Eagle drivers in the Amateurs and Novice races in Season 16 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=193&theme=6). Picking the division for which you have similar lap times will ensure close competitive racing which is more enjoyable for both you and the other drivers. Race times are a better indication of true pace but laps times are close enough. Cheers Phil Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: EvilClive on February 20, 2009, 07:39:40 PM +0000 Car choice? hmmmm now let me think..... ::) oooh! how about a shiny Honda witha pretty red stripe?? and as backup???? another Honda ( but maybe disguised as a Cooper?) evil, you can't enter Novices!!! 1. Is the password to enter the race issued in the pre-race chat? 2. Although I am running the 65mod, do I need to upgrade to the later version 2.0? 3. I also noticed the words po in top left corner of my screen, what does this mean? Although I plan to attend all the races, I am unfortunately going to miss the first race as I am on holiday. On a technical note, I think that I have an 18mbps connection (although I am not sure). Is it worth trying the 60fps or might this slow down the online game. Thanks to Amagi for setting me up yesterday :) Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: miner2049er on February 23, 2009, 02:27:03 PM +0000 I had my first ever online race on Sunday and was pleased that I only got lapped once! It's a start, well done. 1. Is the password to enter the race issued in the pre-race chat? No, generally it will be in the race announcement thread on the forums but last night was a fun race. 2. Although I am running the 65mod, do I need to upgrade to the later version 2.0? You don't have to but others will have the benefit of slipstreaming where you won't, and the smaller collision boxes mean that you have more room around you for close quarter racing which really helps when racing online. It looks to be pretty stable for everybody so far so back up your Sierra folder then do the install if you like. 3. I also noticed the words po in top left corner of my screen, what does this mean? That is people sending the message PO (Pit Out) so if you're passing the pitlane somebody may be making their way onto track, just beware. Sometimes you will see the message PORF (Pit Out with Race Fuel) or you may see the message Thanks for running straight into me you Twunt! You can probably work it out. To send messages press Enter, type your message and press enter again. This is generally only done in practise. Race chat is kept to a minimum and should really be avoided as it is distracting. Is it worth trying the 60fps or might this slow down the online game. People are still finding this out so it may be best to try it in practise rather than races where I don't think it will be in general use as some people run PCs that can't handle it. Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: vosblod on February 25, 2009, 01:07:25 AM +0000 Is it worth trying the 60fps or might this slow down the online game. One thing to note. The 60fps (release due soon) and existing 36fps do NOT mix (jumpy cars/warps etc). At present there is no failsafe in IGOR.Reccommend keeping 60fps switched off unless you specifically need it... Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: JamesRye on February 25, 2009, 01:16:09 PM +0000 Previously I had asked to drive in the Eagle, not realising it was not an option in the 65mod. The Lotus 33 can be tricky if you're not used to it though, and also we've got four already. Another Honda would be good, since there's only Bookie driving the Honda, I can easily add another if anyone wants one. The RA272 is one of my favourites- and it also won the senior championship last season. Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: JamesRye on February 26, 2009, 01:13:15 PM +0000 Ferrari or Honda, I'm OK with either.
:) I have been practicing around some of the tracks that are on the calendar which I have not raced on before and was wondering about car setups. In particular, the Albi racetrack is a concern, where I can just about force a 1min 15.8 laptime. I have noticed that the computer cars have been doing 1min 12's. I have never tried using other peoples car setups before (seems like cheating) and I was wondering if anyone knows a good website for downloading them... :) Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: miner2049er on February 26, 2009, 01:51:33 PM +0000 A 1:15.8 will get you towards the front of the grid at Albi I would have thought.
Best drop down to the Honda me thinks. If you want to download setups here are a couple of links that people use. http://gpltd.bcsims.com/ http://gpladdicts.speedgeezers.net/ Here are mine which are mainly the Honda ones I used last season so Albi won't be there. http://www.jamesonline.net/gpl/setups_65.htm Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: JamesRye on February 26, 2009, 01:53:57 PM +0000 Thanks miner2049er

http://gplmz.bcsims.com/index.php?showtopi...amp;#entry27115 The long awaited 60fps patch has been released --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a single .xml file that modifies the GEM program. It gives a checkbox in each GEM mod installed. Check to use 60 fps, Uncheck to use 36 fps. My current understanding is that UKGPL will not use the patch, so run unchecked GEM or remove the .xml I ran a quick IOM Abridged and was normally in 48-51fps readings. Lowest was 37fps at the start finish. The sudden fps drops mentioned in the UKGPL 60fps testing thread doesn't 'yet' show up on my older, lower power machine. Personally, I like the smoother drive and the fact that I can run consistantly higher than 36fps when I want a drive. He finished in 4th place last season! what the hell? Point taken, but Nicky doesn't want to race at Pro rules for half distances so his only option is to drop a division but take the slowest car. However, if he begins to run away with the Novices championship another decision will have to be made. Also, Nicky had made his decision based upon the fact that he wants to be able to SHIFT-R, but if he does he has to take a SnG, and with many quick novices this season he may find his decision to be the wrong one after all. No reason to be woried Burtoner. if it turns out that I am to fast in a Cooper , of course I will stop. its not my intention to spoils someones fun or stand in the way. its an misty situation to me , cause I simply do not feel comfortable to race 50% GP races after a long working day off mine. ( would be after midnight at my time here , a pro race ended ). regards :) Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: JamesRye on March 16, 2009, 07:31:01 PM +0000 I am looking forward to my first novice race, but just had a couple of quick questions:
1. if you get a black flag (and it is your mistake) how long do you have to stop in the pits for. 2. Albi often unfairly gives drivers a black flag >:( due to mistaking the hairpin for cutting the corner, especially under heavy braking, but having read the rules, I understand that I should continue in this case. 3. I have never completed a pitstop in GPL, will we be required to do this? If so is there any indication that your car is being re-fuelled? Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Phil Thornton on March 16, 2009, 07:42:51 PM +0000 I am looking forward to my first novice race, but just had a couple of quick questions: Just do exactly what GPL mandates. See rule at bottom of this page (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/sporting).1. if you get a black flag (and it is your mistake) how long do you have to stop in the pits for. Quote 2. Albi often unfairly gives drivers a black flag >:( due to mistaking the hairpin for cutting the corner, especially under heavy braking, but having read the rules, I understand that I should continue in this case. We always (unless someone forgets which is very rare) have checkpoints disabled when racing on-line so this shouldn't happen. This is done because internet lag can sometimes cause drivers to be black flagged erroneously by GPL.Quote 3. I have never completed a pitstop in GPL, will we be required to do this? If so is there any indication that your car is being re-fuelled? No pit stops in the Novices. The pit stops are only used to level car performance in some of our other divisions. Please note the car is not refuelled by a pit stop. Only a shift R adds more fuel. Remember if you do a shift R you must perform a stop and go in the pits as recompense.Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: roguk on March 17, 2009, 04:46:10 PM +0000 I had black flag at Albi in practise race did not pit and was disqualified, did not understand what i had done wrong.
So i can if happens in novice race ignore black flag. Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Turkey Machine on March 17, 2009, 05:21:45 PM +0000 It seems the black flags at Albi are a little over-exuberant. I'm not sure about the workings of GPL on this, but I think if you ignore it, you can carry on racing. I have no idea if GPL forcibly removes you from the race, but if it doesn't, carry on and hopefully the replay will back things up and you'll be counted in scoring. Just remember where you finished. ;)
Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: roguk on March 17, 2009, 05:26:30 PM +0000 Thanks Turkey Machine
Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: vosblod on March 17, 2009, 05:28:09 PM +0000 I got the same at Albi - did a pit stop and it said 'cut corner' which I hadn't? Didn't realise I should disable the checkpoint on the server - now done this so hopefully won't happen again.
You won't show up on Pribluda if you race while DQ'd but you won't get forcibly removed as far as I'm aware. Also (I might be wrong) GPL stops showing which lap you are on. Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Phil Thornton on March 17, 2009, 07:37:37 PM +0000 I had black flag at Albi in practise race did not pit and was disqualified, did not understand what i had done wrong. So i can if happens in novice race ignore black flag. The official rules regarding black flags is at the bottom of this page (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/sporting). Assuming the disable checkpoints has been checked, the only things you can do which would give you a black flag is to jump the start or drive the wrong way down the track. As a general rule we abide by GPL, see a previous ruling on driving the wrong way here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5415#event1546). You should only ignore a black flag if you genuinely think GPL is wrong. In which case you will have to argue your case with the moderators after the event. If the moderators have the replay it is quite easy to review the replay reinstate the disqualified driver if appropriate. Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: JamesRye on March 17, 2009, 07:44:01 PM +0000 does anyone know when the practice sessions start?
Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: vosblod on March 17, 2009, 07:56:44 PM +0000 does anyone know when the practice sessions start? The races start at 9pm. We don't have 'official' pre-race practice sessions as such but you will often find UKGPL.5 & 6 running in IGOR for practice. Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Vee8 on March 23, 2009, 02:43:16 PM +0000 Hi everyone, just stumbled across Geoff's invite posted at the GPLRacer.eu forum and... here I am, hoping to get more GPL miles under my belt.
My name is Mario Bauer, I've only managed to successfully get GPL running decently earlier this year and got, so far, 4 mod65 races to my record. And almost one race lap in the 69mod, something I'm not very proud of, right Geoff...? ::) So i guess I do qualify for the novice cup and my choices would be: 1) Lotus 33 (which would spare me from having to do setups twice as this is the car I race in GPLRacer) 2) Brabham BT11 If it's OK, I'd join as of the Kyalami round. Cheers Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Geoff65 on March 23, 2009, 03:04:31 PM +0000 Hi everyone, just stumbled across Geoff's invite posted at the GPLRacer.eu forum and... here I am, hoping to get more GPL miles under my belt. Cheers Hello Mario!.....welcome to UKGPL. Ah, don't worry too much about that 69 race....it was rather an odd affair. And you were in the Lotus 63 yeah?. Not the best choice of weapon for someone new to the game. You did ok. Everyone has dramas at a crash site like the one Ico arranged for everyone.....:) Hope you enjoy yourself here, we all do! Keep an eye out for the praccy servers UKGPL 5 & 6 when they're up and come and join in when you can. No passwords just hop on. Geoff. I've been playing GPL on/off for a couple of years but never tried online, is there any spaces still available? Thanks Tom Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: vosblod on April 03, 2009, 12:19:55 AM +0100 Hi, I've been playing GPL on/off for a couple of years but never tried online, is there any spaces still available? Just vote above to register Tom. You might have to go in as a reserve but I'm sure we'll be able to squeeze you in. Also, what's your preferred chassis? Thanks, Tom Welcome to UKGPL Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: tomd18 on April 03, 2009, 12:51:59 AM +0100 Okay, voted. Ferrari would be my choice.

Another newbie to online GPL here though I have practised for a while with the 67s. I'd love to give the 65's a go if there are any spaces. Any of the chassis with a 5-speed gearbox would suit me - though if that's not possible I'm happy to give anything a bash (probably literally) Cheers Al Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Jack O'Ferrall on May 13, 2009, 11:03:55 PM +0100 Welcome to the Novices, Al. How about a Brabham BT11 then?

Hope to see you kickin' about a racetrack somewhere soon. Wait a moment....that's 2 Al's now. Can we just call you all Bruce, to avoid confusion?....... ::) Cheers, Geoff. Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Vee8 on May 19, 2009, 01:30:02 AM +0100 Hi there boys,
since I last posted here, showing interest in competing in UKGPL's Novices Cup, I encountered an almost ridiculous amount of private and professional obstacles and haven't been able to take the track with you guys once. Really bizarre! Geoff went to the extend, suggesting that it might all have to do with a supposed kick I could potentially have adressed at an innocent Chinaman, considering the streak. Actually I'm not about, kicking anyone's behind. Off the track that is :D But hey, I must have done something similar, as the latest joke destiny has been playing seems to point out: One of the 3 HDs I got on my PC began cranking up. I'll leave it up to your imagination which files are stored on drive D on my Pc... To make a long story short. My debut within UKGPL's Novice Cup will have to wait yet again. There MUST be a higher scheme behind this. Can someone just take the time and explain to me, please...? Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: Mark65 on June 20, 2009, 08:03:40 PM +0100 Hi all,
I'm in for the last two races in the BT11 if that works.. Just last night I ran my first sub 1:40 at Silverstone so I'll do my best to stay out of everyone's way ;) I'm a total NOOB to online racing but had a blast sitting in Geoff's Lotus last night, as I was black-flagged during an attempted start from pit lane hahaha... Mark Title: Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration Post by: vosblod on June 20, 2009, 08:38:10 PM +0100 Welcome to UKGPL Mark, you're signed for the Novices as a reserve but there shouldn't be any problems fitting you in for the last two races. Look forward to seeing you on track
