It's appeared, is my magic

Lovely looking circuit BTW, it seems to have everything. Good choice for a future Enduro I'd say  ;)

Tried this one last night with the Corvette first then the Capri. This is going to be a tough one to choose the right car for. But the circuit is certainely a contender for my top 10 best circuits. Luvin' it.

The 'Zeltweg' bit in the name confuses me, is this the proper Osterreichring they ran all through the 70s and 80s?....must try it at the weekend.  If it is that one then no wonder you love it Tony.  This is up there with the old 60s Spa circuit for adrenaline pumping insane cornering speeds.  In the mid-80s turbo era it was almost suicidally fast, got abandoned as too dangerous and hacked up into the (still pretty good) A1-Ring.

If its the track I think it is this should be a humdinger.

Which Corvettes are egible exactly?

The GTC-65 ones? That would be really fab  8)

The Corvette selection is tricky. They are under the GTC-TC76 catagory but it's the ones that DONT have the visible headlights. I believe an example of the forbidden fruit would be the Red "Stars and Stripes" version.

This is a very fast circuit with huge straights. Last night I almost topped out the Capri and that was with the longest gearing!

Oh my, I'm in danger of getting ever-excited.   Checked the download link and it takes you nowhere very specific but must be for the Osterreichring79 track.  And your comments agree with that Tony.

Haven't driven it since GPL years ago, but this is what I call a real track.  Oh boy.

Most of the circuit is easy learn stuff but the start finish straight culminates in an uphill section (at which point your car will be flat out) and a blind entry right/left/right chicane that has monster kerbing. Must be taken in 2nd after heavy braking. It's certainly an exhilarating moment when you get that done correctly.

Mmm yeah, apart from the dubious driving and silly looking kerbs at the chicane, looks good.

I hope its the same track u gents are raving about :)

I've ammended first post as it should have read the 76 Vette. However, I've not decided whether to limit it to just the Red Sparkly number or not. Will test some more and get back to you.

I am working in Amsterdam this week. WIll miss P&G and this one, next one I can do is the Ring
Grr, couldn't get in last week, and will miss this one, Bay front was for me an (entirely self inflicted)
waste of time. I'm getting more good races in GTR2 these days (and I am crap at it)
Season seems a tad short? or is it always just 6 races?

The bigger/badder 76 Vette is on the same pace as Cwapri and Panty for me so that will be the Vette avaliable. Around mid 58's in all of them.

This track is even more fun then I remembered. Banked right hander onto back straight is now my new fave corner, especially in the Panty :) Twitchy bum time indeed.

sbg / all,

Any lap times?
From the limited practice I have had I can't get under 2mins!
Race distance is 24 laps!
Unless I am painfully slow! ( quite possible  ;D ) then is 24 laps correct!
If so, I will find myself a smelly fish, slap myself round the face with it and go and cry in a corner!  ;D

Ta

Smelly fish face!!

WOW! :o what an amazing track, I love it!

It's a bit like Goodwood in that if you're brave enough you can throw the Pantera around here.

I love the fact that there are bumps mid apex, on the exit and entry to corners which make the car move and bounce around.. awesome fun ( if a tad scary at full chat!  :D ).

It would be great if we could try out the GTR2 version for PnG too.

I've just done a few laps using my Goodwood Pantera setup and hve just got a pb of 1.56.8 so far, whether I can get a quicker time depends on how much risk I feel like taking tbh!

A brilliant find to whoever found this track!

I think we saw 9 on in the end & we rounded off with a nice little 4 lap, 8 car grid race. Let's just say there was a shock winner (thank you very much  ;)).
Cars seemed well matched. I managed high 2:01's in both the Panty & Cwapi. I was a little slower in the GT40, but I hardly gave it any time. I think SBG was quickest & might have racked up a 1:57 :-\

Thursday's race is certainly going to have some 'moments' with these cars on this track  ;D 8)

I'll be on after 10'ish.
I'll probably join shortly after that i hope.

I've managed one lowish 1m58s in the Capri so far but a lot more 1m59s/2m00s.  Should be a fun race although I'm guessing there'll be a lot of people on very similar pace here.

Will be online/TS tonight for some more practice hopefully.

Cheers, Ross.

I agree, I remember it well from my GPL days although I prefer GPL's version of T1, no silly chicane with high kerbs.

I'm going to be well off the pace here, my best laps were 2:03 in the '69 Corvette or 2:04 in the 906. Leaning towards taking the 906 as I'm finding it easier to drive.

Welcome Mike, if it is the Mike I saw last night on the server you should be fine. Enjoy your first race and take it easy at the start!

yeah i agree with that too ! I raced here with the F1 '79 mod in Rfactor and it didnt have those stupid toblerone kerbs at T1 chicane  >:( Still a great track though, the bumps can catch you out too. Wonder if the GTR2 track version is better?..assuming there is one?

well i started practising in the 906 and thought i had notched up some good lap times.... then I checked the off-prac server 10 mins before 8pm and i was miles off the pace!!!  :-\

i panicked and swapped for the pantera..... which i have never driven being a 911 man. Was really chuffed just to be under 2 mins but quali'd near the back. Race was mad and i end up spinning lap 4 and had nowhere to go, sideways across the side of the track and Tinman hit me and retired  :(

Sorry Tinman, in hindsight I should have quit  :-\

I just had nowhere to go when I saw Minton's car in the middle of the track.....just one of those things I guess :'(
At least the crash is going to look good on the replay though...managed to roll the car at least 10 times!!!  :)

Great fun that one - even if it was my team mate I ended up racing.  Thanks for being the gentleman there Legzy - I tried to avoid your spin, but just decided to pass on the wrong side.  Sorry to Tony for getting caught up in the aftermath!

Cheers, Ross.

Pretty uneventful race for me, somehow tiptoed past the T1 carnage and was racing myself for most of the time. Had a great view of Madd's incident with Sandor's yellow Pantera, you were lucky not to be wiped out!!!!  :o

I somehow didn't have the normal 906 unlocked so I nicked the nice blue one, returned in one piece  ::)

Sadly I won't be able to make Nurby  >:( hopefully see you in S8

So, my first race...actually a bit nerve racking, but I still had a great time.

I qualified well over a second off my practice time, but I guess it still wasn't too bad. I made a pretty good start but the extra fuel caught me out and I had to take to the inside of the first corner...thankfully I didn't hit anyone!

I think I came out of T1 around 7th and managed to hold me own for a little time until and I down shifted to much (a common mistake I'm noticing from myself!) and took myself out. After this I found it hard to get back in to the flow and went off a couple more times :(

Once I got back in to my rhythm I was doing okay but spent the last 10 laps pretty much by myself...probably a good thing for everyone else though. :)

All said and done I'm happy with 13th not taking anyone else out was a big relief I have to say. Hopefully I'll improve in the next race.

Thanks all for a great race.

UPDATE: Seems I lied, I came out of T1 12th :-|

That was a brilliant race. The Österreichring really was a great driver's circuit, despite the irritating chicane, and I hope we can race here again. Quali went rather well and I managed 7th on the grid. A poor start followed and I found myself in 9th by the end of the lap. Me and Pribeiro then had a great scrap for position, swapping places frequently. After a while I noticed that D Minton had an off and Laslow collided into him down the straight to the last corner. I managed to avoid both of them but Pribeiro sneakely passed me through all the carnage and our battle resumed once more.

Eventually Prib's car fell foul of the chicane kerbs and spun round so that left me to drive my own race to the finish. So I wound up in 5th at the race's end but that was a fine result in my eyes. See you all at the mighty Nordschleife  ;D.

Great turnout, only sorry theres no more room :'(

Delighted to be the only one in 55's for quali. Shame that those RVS boys were in the 54's :o On a different level them evil twins, sold their souls perhaps?

Race began steadily, good work from all those around me, and I quickly settled into my "strategy". After Geoffers lost out to the Panties extra grunt I was left hanging onto Assassino for dear life. I held on for ruddy 18 laps keeping him honest and hoping for a mistake and he waits till penultimate lap to make one, at that silly chicane. Enjoyed the fight and a shame it ended then as a few more laps would have been truly exciting.

Everyone I came across was as good as could be hoped, not easy with those speeds :) Congrats to Madd, Assasino and Mike for his impressive debut. Bit of a change in pace next week which is no bad thing for my nerves :)

Yup, got a damn good price too  :) ,

I thought it was going to be a battle royal between Dan and my self for pole, and it was, how we got 54's I don't know , Dan got his first then I followed for the Pole time :D , he was  a bit miffed to say the least!

As for the race I made a couple of silly errors, T1 was the first, I just started to lock up on the inside so rather than spin to try when attempting the corner I just tootled over the gravel out of the way, it meant I lost some positions but it was the lesser of two evils.

Of course this now meant chasing down Assassino and Dan, great, why do I make it so difficult for myself!

I slowly started to pull up to Assassino but got cought out by his slightly early braking into the last corner and slid into his drivers rear corner  ::) , thankfully he caught it  8) and so I backed of slightly to let him get the gap back before resuming the hunt! ;D

I got a far better drive through the chicane and managed to sneak past on the inside at the uphill right hander, next target, my Team boss!

Slowly reeled Dan in over the next few laps but just as I started to get within striking distance he spun  :( , not good, especially as I saw he quit soon after (apparently due to a quite spectacular spin and roll combination), after that it was just a case of keeping it on the black stuff and trying to pull away from Assassino, which I did albeit by only a few tenths per lap.

The only other memorable thing was coming up to lap Sandor, who just after the chicane had a tank slapper and spun directly in front of me, I slammed on and just managed to squeeze past enough so he hit the side of my car...phew!  :sweatdrop:

Congrats to the  Ian and Assassino and to all who finished.

After missing the last 2 races I was glad to be back on the track .
Instead of going for my regular Porsche choice I decided to go out and have some fun in the Pantera.

The race was a bit lonely after the first 2 laps with no battles at all for me. The only problems i kept having was the first chicane.
Or I braked way too early or I hit the curbs and spun my car.  Normally not a big issue if you are driving for last positions but this time the frontrunners where coming by.
Just had my spin in the first chicane and managed to get my car going into the right direction when I saw Madd-Rip coming up to me.
I decided to stay on the right side of the track but somehow got my car in another spin full to the left where Madd-Rip was. :scared:
I hit his car but thankfully he survived my manouvre and went on winning the race.

The only other memorable thing was coming up to lap Sandor, who just after the chicane had a tank slapper and spun directly in front of me, I slammed on and just managed to squeeze past enough so he hit the side of my car...phew!  :sweatdrop:
  Glad you made it.

After that I was a bit distracted and hit the barriers 10 secs later. Ruined my car so the handling was gone . Luckily the race was almost over and i managed to keep my position.

Although a bit lonely, it was quite eventful to keep the lump of Detroit metal on the tarmac.... and I'm going to print and frame the UKGTL Lap Records   :D

I turned the starting countdown on for the first time just before joining the server. So I jumped the start :). Apparently you're supposed to wait for the go, not just go after 1. Anyway, I jumped, and then pulled over to let everyone pass. Now, I expected a black flag, but there was no message on the screen. So I didn't stop and got dq-ed on lap 3. I never got any kind of a message that I needed to stop in the pits. Is there some option I may have turned off, or some other reason I'm not getting any warning messages? I got dq-ed in the previous race as well, and never got any warnings either.

Qualified 12th.
Good fight with Samb, several trading positions for half an hour.
At the chicane of doom, as we were braking side by side, i thought we would do it
side by side aswell, so, i kept my left side, but you suddenly moved through the usual
line and to avoid you i had to break hard, passed over the curbs, tried to stay with you
and pushed to hard the throtle while i was exiting the curbs, lost it and spun.  ;D
Excellent track choice Mr. SBG.  ;) However, fast tracks Panteras rules, maybe only the green Corvette match it. Or my BMW...

Good fun, enjoyed very much.
Hats off to the red Corvette and GT40 drivers.  8)

Congrats to podium.  :)

Cheers

:jumpjoy: I finally finished a race in season 7.

Got a good start & was 5th into the chicane. Nearly nicked 4th from team boss SBG   when I got a much better drive out of the chicane, but the Panty power just got him ahead by T2. Then ran 5th for several laps until Dan crashed spectacularly in front of me (10/10), promoting me to 4th.

By this time Mr Oily was starting to hunt me down  :helpsmilie: & was soon on my tail. We had a bit of an outbraking battle into the chicane, I held on to the place but bounced over the kerbs a bit & forgot to short-shift to 3rd as I normally did mid-chicane, so when I accelerated in 2nd the back came round & I spun into the barriers, grrrrr!

Rejoined in 9th just behind Blunder, upto 8th when Dynosaur spun off & after 3 or 4 laps of trying, I eventually got past Blunder into the chicane with a bit of a block pass, sorry if it was a bit hard Martin! So came in 7th & very relieved to eventually finish a race.

Congrats to Matt, SBG & Rui.

Cya all at Nurby. ;D

Race build up was spoilt for me again as yet again my G25 would not work online (despite being fine in online practice through the week). Recreating my drivers profile got me round it for the pre-race practice server, but then had to recreate it again before joining the proper race server  ::) /  >:(

Made a solid start from 18th on the grid. Enjoyed clinging onto Tinman's rear bumper for the 1st 3 laps before he waved me by & with Tony in close proximity too. Then I found myself with a sizeable gap upto Ade ahead & back to the next car behind for most of the race.

But my wishes were answered with four laps to go as something (might have been the kerbs :-\) slowed Ade down to within striking distance. Got past to get myself into 10th, only to blow it at the fast T2 right-hander & I span up the slight bank on the inside. Ade managed to get past no probs. I was then wedged on the inside of a fast bend, without a great view of any possible oncoming traffic. picked my moment, but with the car seemingly still half wedged on the grass bank it was not a straight forward rejoin & Ross came round fast & between us we managed to have contact (Sorry Ross my fault buddy) & then Tony suffered too as we were recovering. Let them both past down the start of the back straight, so was down three places now  :'(

Chased & got past Tony, but despite being close for the last couple of laps I couldn't find a way past Ross. Well done for holding me off.

Simply a great track/car combo here SBG & I'm chuffed because I didn't run with my default 906 ;D.

Meanwhile, Blunder seems to be leading the Team Oldie Charge up the table (7th overall). Concerning times!  :-[ :-*

Great fun that one - even if it was my team mate I ended up racing.  Thanks for being the gentleman there Legzy - I tried to avoid your spin, but just decided to pass on the wrong side.  Sorry to Tony for getting caught up in the aftermath!

Cheers, Ross.

You guys gave me one great OMG moment I crested that rise flat in 4th to find one car discoing to the left, one stationary on the right and one dawdling down the middle of the track just managed to squeeze through without hitting anything.  Having got by you all seemed to have the red mist as you each had a number of offs but I think it was Tony who came off worse each time eventually he dropped back and lost another position.

Early on I had a chase after Alex and was catching him fast, setting my fastest lap.  As usual my car decided I was getting too confident and got away from me and went into Disco Mode.  I doesn't matter which car, which track just as I'm lining up to have a go at passing someone it decides to show me whose Boss and flicks off into the kitty litter or onto the grass and proceeds to do doughnuts around one front wheel, completely ignoring my inputs.  After 10 to 15 secs it slowly foxtrots up to the track and lets me take control again.  (That's what if feels like - take that you cocky moron.)

Alex was about 20 secs ahead of my by the starting line and it more or less stayed that way for the rest of the race.  Overtakers kept me honest and amused.

Bill

Not a problem at all Legzy and I can't help feeling that I should have been able to avoid you, but your car was like a magnet ;)  I think I'd damaged something after that as the handling on my car seemed to go a bit whacky so I'm glad that we only had the one lap to go otherwise you'd have got past me again.

I tell you what, it's great having lots of team mates but my days does it create more nervous moments during races (not that I'd be more interested in hitting non Prodigy people you understand ;)).

Spent the opening laps tucked up behind Dyno who was putting plenty of pressure on Lazlow. Even with Ross's vastly improved Capri setup (thanks for that!!) I wasn't actually fast enough to make a safe move so tried to keep close and hoped to keep up the pressure and follow my team mate through when he made his. That would have been fine but for PR and Sam hot on my heels making things all complicated :)

Eventually, after quite a few fast laps running in close proximity I think Lazlow ran a little wide leaving the door open for Dyno who went diving through with me just about in tow. I tried to make the most of the teeniest gap on the inside of the right hander before the long straight which leads into the last corner. We were practically touching and in a synchronised power slide on that exit if I remember correctly, excellent stuff.

Anyway said teeny gap turned into side by side action down the straight and so I had to feel a little sympathy when Lazlow had nowhere to go but full chat into Dan's unsighted stationary Pantera. No idea how I wasn't collected in the carnage but I feel pretty lucky, looking back after, all I could see was Lazlow embarking on a space exploration mission high above the ground and various other cars including teamie Dyno in a spin in the middle of the track.

Had a good little tussle with Geoffers, really a shame that couldn't have gone on longer mate but you clearly got caught out by the bit that'd been worrying me in practice - the exit from the first chicane. Almost M1A style in the way it seems super slippery and almost impossible to hold the rear once it gets out of shape on one particular part of the track.

From there just drove it home listening on TS to Ross and Tony mixing it up with a hint of Legzy :) Really good finishes chaps, shame Spanner and Tibs couldn't have had better luck - next time lads.

Grats podium people, not a hope of catching ya - some of the lap times going in these days are just ridiculous.

Just been watching the replay myself Ross. No problem mate, a few seconds later I appear to bump you, and we touch again just before the chicane, which sent me into a spin. Apologies to all those - Blunder/Tinman/Tony/Sandor/Spanner/Tim/Tibs/Syd/Bill/Alex (is this a record?) - who got caught up in that. The car was a thrupenny bit after that, so it was into the pits for the obligatory week's worth of work. Came out and stuffed it straight into the barrier again. :censored: Finger hovered over the ESC button, but I like the track and with points awarded all the way down to 24th place, I reckoned it was worth continuing, even minus front spoiler. I was rewarded with six points for my perseverance. Not bad!

Not a problem at all Phil, I deserved it! ;)  I'm definitely going to have to improve my starting technique,  I was all over the place on that one.  I think part of the issue is that with three screens, cars coming up along side appear much closer than they are because the view is distorted so much which caused to me to move across left and then over to the right when in fact I actually had some space anyway and should have kept going straight.  Live and learn I guess!

Had a good time chasing Purdie as well at the start which I'd forgotten about, I think we'd have had a good battle there, but unfortunately Purdie binned it in the stadium bend.

Cheers, Ross.

Just been watching the replay myself Ross. No problem mate, a few seconds later I appear to bump you, and we touch again just before the chicane, which sent me into a spin.
