Isn't this supposed to be an endurance round? I can make the endurance races, so to see my favourite circuit which as far as I can tell should be an endurance round not be is little disappointing:( Or are people just too scared to drive a manly 90 minutes rather than a girly 45 ;D

That would be ideal but the dodgy lap counting here precludes a pitstop I'm afraid. Its just too risky.

That said, I wanted to make the race to be as "enduro like" as possible on a full tank, maybe we can extend it too 7 laps?

There is an Aston inthe car select page..
Is this just there to Taunt me? or will it be a legal car?

Your getting that cos it's "cloned" from the Healey.

What is the problem with pitting here? Last year I did a 3hr race over at NoGrip on this track & no one had any problems.

A 6 lapper will take over 1hr as the lap time will be around 10m 40s. 7 laps may not be possible on a tankful.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo.
I do love motorsports (mainly cars) but i rather prefer to see rally stages than doing it.
If i could vote, i would vote for 1 lap.
If i attend to this race is only because of you all and your company  , otherwise i will be bored.  ::)

It's the poor geo-spatial aspect of the circuit that bugs me. It's mostly flat or downhill without enough corresponding uphill.

We're doing the 24hr circuit, would doing the Tourist circuit remove the 'dodgy lap counting while pitting' issue, as that version does not include the stadium circuit (where the pits are located)?
I don't know the answer, it's just a thought off the top of my head.  :-\

I know what you mean Tony, there does seem to be more falls then rises now I think of it... but I just can't help but love it!

Popular opinion  (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5976.0) has Nordschleife currently as the 3rd most popular track (Disagree? It's not too late to vote folks  ;D).

I'm quite happy with current settings and I think they strike the right balance. I'm willing to take the flack if it all goes wrong  :tank:

Never heard a track have its geo-spatials criticised before but you have a point there though Tony. Set your cars up accordingly ;)

Bit controversial this but the lesser known Charade (the original not the newer version) is IMHO a far superior driving challenge than this wimp fest (it says here).

Good few on for practice tonight, good fun chaps  :)

Lazlow has very kindly created this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?hl=en-GB&v=0ddnYO340i4&gl=GB) of how to pit legally at this circuit & how not to pit.

If you pit incorrectly, you will register having completed a lap in about 2mins instead of about 11mins which you obviously wouldn't want  ;)

Thank gawd, we hear from a fan :) Everyone raved about this track after test race and many are voting it as a fave so there must be a few of you. Thats why we are going there.

Thx for video Lazlow. Pitting is tricky so all take a peep at it as, tis sods law, you'll have to use it.

I'm having a panic attack about the Healey doing 6 laps on a one tank. Can you gents reassure me that it will? Rather embarrassingly I can't finish three laps without a major shunt to test it (I may be Oldie material yet ;)).

A driver of your ability (:-\) could always use the games feature to multiply fuel usage by x2 (or x3/x4) to be certain. But I shall be on the server this evening & will have a go in the Healey to see what I get & will let you know when you show up later  :)

ok... I was pitting the wrong way then... but I am just wondering what the pylons/plastic thingies are for then?

Big fan also of this track although it would probably a lonely race... but we can't miss out on the Mother of all Tracks ??!! (bear with romantic idiots who think Mille Miglia is the best race in the world).

If it says it will do 6 laps, it will probably do nearly 7. I put 3 laps worth in the Alpine & nearly got to the Karussel on the 4th lap before it ran out

Just did a couple of laps and did a 10.41.36 on my first then 10.41.50 and theres still a second or two to gain , Quite surprised as its 3 secs quicker than the last time we raced here.
Going to do a quick test to see if the Healey will do six laps without a top up of fuel.

Right did a 6 lap race test in the Healey and finished with just under a 1/4 of a tank so no worries there, quickest lap was a 1.39.9.

This track is sick!!! ;D

I am gutted. Qualified a half decent 8th, was up to 3rd by the first corner. Then had a nice battle with a few cars for a while but eventually the field spread out and I found myself in a comfortable 3rd on the long straight at the end of the first lap. Then I lost connection! I couldn't believe it. It just had to happen at the Nurburgring with a strong chance of a podium. Yet my internet seems fine now.....

Qualified 12th, half of the 1st lap i was in 6th following very close the group in front.
A car spun, over the twisted rally stage road, i couldn't avoid it and bang...upside down...
lost a couple of places, but when i rejoin, my steering wheel and suspension were a mess.
Corners, were a nightmare doing them after that. 2nd lap 7th place in front of my team mates,
i was running too wide and going to the grass, i quit from the 2nd stage of the rally to not
compromise their races and others. Did i told you before how i hate Nordscheliefe?  >:(
I just hate to race side by side with others in a narrow twisted rollercoaster road .  >:(

I go to play some Colin Mcrae or Richard Burns game now, it is a bit safer...

Thanks for the event tho SBG, this is only my own opinion, and i'm not right nor wrong.  ;)

:wetfish:

Cheers  :D

Thanks all for a nice race. Sorry Madd, I tapped you at the last lap just before the back stretch, I was over ambitious and trying to maintain my speed for the straight, the Alpine is no match for Healey there. Glad you could carry on and take the second! I was afraid that I ruined your race.

Grats Spad, tenth place! Didn´t have time to see the whole results table, so more praise later! Ade, was a nice battle!

Grats to Dan for amazing pace and win, Dyno don't worry about it, although tbh I thought I had made the mistake by getting to close to the rumble strip, very decent of you to wait, thanks.  :thumbup1:

I believe if you had been that close earlier in the race you would have got 2nd, I just seem incapable of clicking with this track for some reason. ::)

Another good points haul for the team however.  :)

To be honest I was dreading that and I wasn't disappointed :)

Quali went ok as I managed a whole lap without a major shunt. Really not sure what happened to you Legzy as you spun out on straight, when on a flyer  :'( You were way faster than me.

I have not looked at replay of start (dreading that to be honest) but it was clear that one or two were trying to gain way too much. We have had a history of T1 incidents and I think we generally strike the balance between attacking and just settling into race lately. Tonight it just looked all wrong, especially considering the length of race and venue. Simple common sense, simple common sense :)

As for race I was simply all over the place. I've put in the normal couple of hours pracci but it was just not enough for this place, for me. I seemed to remember one bit and another bit would fly outta my brain. Not one clean lap and a shocking display really. Almost as bad as that start ;)

Congrats to RVS gents, Dyno and Ade and all finishers. That was tough. I think a lot of you had good races which is eases my pain :)

And before I forget No chat in race or quali until everyone has finished Way too much jibber jabber going on tonight.

Not a good race for me, even though I managed to get from 23rd on lap 1 to 9th at the end.

Apologies to Legzy who I managed to run into on the outlap for qually & again on the last lap of the race   Very poor driving on my part.

I also spun teammate Ade at T1, although I did have some help from behind on that one.

Congrats to Dan, Matt & Dynosaur.

Cya next week

I started practicing here last weekend...and I'm still terrible! I have to say I found this circuit really hard to learn, never mind to drive. Still, I managed to qualify 18th, which I'm fairly satisfied with as this was actually my best time, even from practice.

I had a pretty decent start and made up a few places but left the breaking a tad late and gave Baracus a bit of a nudge, sorry about that mate. Although not a great thing too do, what I did next was really embarrassing. I think I distracted myself on hitting Baracus and I ended up ploughing into PRibeiro! Thankfully on looking at the reply I didn't take him out too. So a double apology.

Basically my first two laps were a shambles. I even planted myself on the roof and smashed a couple of walls nice n' hard. After this my car wasn't feeling to great and I had to point to 11 o'clock just to go in a straight line. Nonetheless, the car was still quite drivable so I focused hard and for the most part, kept myself on track from there on in.

I swapped places with Wiltshire Tony a few times which was a lot fun and toward the end of the race Sandor kept me honest for a good lap or so.

Although this was a tough circuit I did have a great time and come the last two laps I was really starting to get into a nice rhythm, which actually led to a PB -- by the end I really didn't want to stop!

I thought it was me, as i wanted to keep the pace and you Healey boys were a little more cautious driving the turns. I gained on you too fast. Will have to watch the replay of it, but the main thing was that Ade didn´t catch either of us, which I thought he would do .

If the race would have lasted just one more lap... The Alpine lacked some straight line speed, while it was fabulous in turns. Healeys got away on the long back straight.

Ade, we had some great racing going on for a while! Couple of times I ran too close and was sure I would hit you but managed to keep it together.

Sorry for your involvement in the accident there, pribeiro! We had a nice race going on, I was just behind you when I saw a big cloud of smoke, you got hit, while I was lucky and got through.

Anyway, thanks all for a nice race, for a Nordschleife fan like me it was fun!

Wasnt exactly a track to try my 1st official race at!

Lets just say, I got some laps in, beat a couple of drivers at the back. Made it into 3 laps, then I just felt I had enough for the day, it was bit too much for my 1st race lol.

At least I knew the circult well from playing Grand Prix Legends.

Also may I ask how do i change my team on the results too, Team Shark?, I race for Soggys in only GPL.

Quali went ok as I managed a whole lap without a major shunt. Really not sure what happened to you Legzy as you spun out on straight, when on a flyer  :'( You were way faster than me.
On the uncompetitive, calm & careful out-lap of qualifying, one of our drivers shunted me off the track on a straight >:( which made my rear end very loose (Not how I like to drive as you know), but not enough time to esc back to the pits so continued on.
When I passed you, the time you saw me spinning on the timed lap, I was nailing it down the straight (forgetting my now light rear end) & the little kink in road was enough for me to head for the barriers. I just did what I could to hold the barrier till you were past safely.
I was disappointed with my qually time despite starting in 9th, as you say I should have been further up the grid then you in 5th. (it's not often I'd get a chance to qualify ahead of you)

Do I seem vexed? More of the same was to come in the race. ::)

Ouch, not sounding good Legz!

Really didn't expect anything out of this but was up for a nice drive in the country after a  hard day in the office so thought I'd make up the numbers. Had never managed a timed lap prior to practice but managed to complete one and get myself a few places up from plumb last.

It's not funny but lap 1 had me chuckling away to myself as I saw Mike fire backwards along the grass helping me make up 7 places I think it was within the first two corners. Unfortunately that was flattering for my ability around here and it soon came undone when I annoyingly lost it on one of the corners I did actually recognise LOL.

At times when I could hook up a few sequences of corners around here I was able to understand the appeal and actually found myself really enjoying it (I love the subtle left that drops away from you!). On the whole it was nice to experience something different but I'll definitely be looking forward to the usual door handle to door handle racing resuming next week I have to be honest.

Was just on my own with WT keeping me company for the majority aside from a spin and hideous rejoin so not a lot more to report.

Amazing result from our man Dyno with Spadowski and Tibs putting in quality drives too, really good stuff chaps. Oh yeah, apologies about chatting at the end, checked Bill's cam (listed as last place) and he was parked, unfortunately I didn't see he wasn't parked past the finish line. Hope it didn't cause anyone any grief!

Reasonable race for me...
Good start, stayed left but a red Healey came ploughing in and then 2 drivers ahead had spun, drove round everybody as best I could avoiding people getting out of the gravel on the left, think I bumped your front end up sbg trying to avoid those on the left!
Not seen the replay!
Left me 12th!
Had been flying on Wednesday with no mistakes but a few unforced ones left me in 7th overall.
Ok with that!  :-\

An apology I think to Assassino? I was rejoing and may have clipped you at one point in the race.
Sorry about that. Hope you got away with no damage?

Thanks all. Good fun and good race.

M.

A race of too many incidents to be totally happy with, though I am calmer now  ;)

On a track I love, that throws a new challenge at you with every corner, dip & rise... Two words spring to mind about last night: "Missed opportunity", as I should have qualified higher & finished higher too.

Had some great moments though & my highlight was probably when Blunder, Lazlow & me were in close quarters & then drafting each other in our pucker Oldie Alpines  8) ;D & we eventually finished a strong 6th, 7th & 8th to remain 3rd in the team championship.

Great to see yet another full GTL grid.
Well done all who finished & bad luck to those who didn't. See you all next week on some new fashionable game called 'PnG' ??? ;) that apparently MJ's not a big fan of :whistling:. Nah, I've had a go at next weeks event & anyone that's not clicked with P&G yet, it's worth a go at next weeks event (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5995#event1753).

Bill was lapped. I was last of the lead lap and finished more than 8 minutes after the winner. Probably was just leaving stadium section when leader was crossing the finish line  :-\

Thanks for the chat restraint. Must be hard to wait almost 10 minutes to celebrate a victory/great run on this beautiful track  :)

Something I forgot to mention that I loved about this race, was the race duration (64 to 72 mins depending on where you finished). 8)

As far as I know, nobody pitted for tyres or fuel? I remain of the opinion that Endurance races of differing lengths would get people thinking about the race ahead & decide on a race strategy to try to follow. It would be treated like &an endurance, rather then like two 40 min sprints (who knows, it might help people's mind set to avoid Lap T1 incidents). Differant car/circuit combo's would require differant race lengths to take them to that point of "should I change tyres or not?". Often with 80 min races there will be a car like the 906/Elan/Alpine where a splash & dash is the obvious choice, 85 or 90mins would surely make that less obvious?

I'm confused.  Past the finishing line and got the escape or return to pits signal.  I saw the winner parked up on the right and thought what a good idea to pull over out of the way instead of the usual missile release with escape.

I sat there patiently waiting for everbody to finish when I had an almighty clout up the rear.

Where did I go wrong - answers on a post card ................?

It's the poor geo-spatial aspect of the circuit that bugs me. It's mostly flat or downhill without enough corresponding uphill.
Discovered that if you watch the replay in reverse from a viewpoint from cars front looking rearward there is a large amount of "uphill". But you dont seem to get the effect translate to the cars performance?

I don't know if it was because I was starting to get to know the track but I noticed I was really starting to get some good grip on lap 4 and 5. Perhaps a couple more laps and and it'd all disappear so a pit stop would be needed -- not sure I want to do an 10 lap test here just yet :)

Just noticed a few "touchy" responses to incident report of start debacle. The gent putting in that report really can't be expected to determine who was right or wrong, thats the mods job, so fairly reported us all. If you didn't do anything naughty, which is gonna be most of you, just say so. There is no need to take exception to it.

Differing race lengths is a good idea  :)

I was going to take part in this, but I don't really want to go installing Python just to download a bunch of stuff.

It seems that you need 'ALL' the cars they have in the event, otherwise you end up in an 'infinite loop' - basically it'll crash. You can download the cars individually, but do you really want to manually download the dozens of cars needed for this event?

Ah well.

How the **** am I the one that caused the incident????????? All I did was try not to hit anyone, had to search for an opening from the right hand side of the track because there was tight and did not even notice I hit anyone. I had a bad start as usual, and am not the kind of a person who rushes eyes closed to the turn one.

The worst thing about this is I can´t watch the replay myself, GTL ctd´d when I tried to watch it.

This one was a total shock for me.  ???

As the one that Dynosaur ran into, I think he has been the victim of how each of our PCs interprets what is happening. I don't usually DL & watch the replays, but as i was involved in a couple of incidents I had to on this occasion. The replay shows just the slightest of touches on my car and the effect it had was definitely out of proportion to the contact. I'm sure we have all had moments where we didn't think we had touched another car & they suddenly spin off & other times when we are sure we hit the car in front & nothing happens. I think we need to bare in mind this is a PC simulation & not real life & what we see on our monitor is not exactly what another driver sees.
