As much as I like the 66 cars, I won't be bombing round the French country roads as my love of football takes precedence tonight, and I'll be heading down the pub. Have fun though. ;D

LOL Syd, exactly my thoughts, hence why I didn't venture out to the pub in the first place. Beer in hand, I'll be bombing around Rouen after all! ;D

That was short and sweet. Nice battle with Hristo in qually, but the fast Ferrari's slipstreamed me right from the start, then starting lap 2 one of them bombed me out. Never mind, I have plenty of other things to be getting on with, and I'll still be in a fast car for the next race :)

Enjoyed that. I seem to be on a bit of a roll with Historics, gonna do some more I think. ;D

Spent practice learning the track in the hefty Lotus, and then tuning the default setup. Changed ARB, toe, ramp angles, clutch and gears to try and make it more friendly, and it was a forgiving car for most of practice. As I got quicker, I did 2:05s, good enough for the 2nd half of the grid.

As the flag dropped, I just kept it going, the guys in front seemed to be going slowly compared to me, and it was a lot to not slam into the back of or up the inside/outside of them. Then I made a cockup which put me towards the back end of the grid and I just hoped others would drop out, which they did! Ended up 5th after Syd was pointing the wrong way out of the corner leading to the back straight, so nearly clobbered him but didn't. Then had a good battle with him which culminated in him getting past on the penultimate lap, and me past him on the final lap at the penultimate corner, at which point I ran him off the road when the cars tyres locked up. 5th after that was pleasing, I would have liked more people to drop out so's I could get higher, but can't ask for much more than that.

I was very disappointed to see you out, Ken. It was shaping up to be quite a battle as you were just as fast and with the aid of slipstream it could've gone both ways. What a shame. :(

Qualifying was very exciting and nail-biting, I actually had doubts I could beat your best time but somehow pulled off a good one. The setup changes I made for the race were a shot in the dark as there was no time left to test them, but as it turned out they delivered positive result.

Somehow I kept you behind at the start but you were faster in the first few corners. Luckily I had a good exit on the back straight and kept a small distance, but that became irrelevant as you were taken out at the end of the lap.

I just kept a quick pace until the finish, not only so it would end quicker but also to keep my concentration higher. It looked like a good battle for 2nd between Mike, Evil and Tim. Hats off to Tim for snatching 2nd and making it a Waza 1-2, with Evil's 4th making it even better!

I'm looking forward to the next race as it seems the competition could be heating up as the season progresses. There are certainly people with a lot of potential but they have been unfortunate or not prepared well enough. I expect that to change right from the next event though!

ALL OUR VICTORIES ARE BELONG TO HER!!!

Cheers,

-=Hristo=-

P.S. Jethro, I don't understand why you handicapped yourself with the Lotus 43 BRM when you can take any 3 Liter.  ???

Clark-Hill Racing is a Lotus team, therefore I pick the Lotus, although now you mention it I might ask for a reprieve with the team and take the Brabham / BRM in each category. :)

I like the Lotus 43, I can chuck it round the circuits and it's quite forgiving most of the time.

Got a reasonable lap in praccy with full gas tanks so was lookin to get amongst the top half dozen . Syd outdragged me at the start as I was slow off the Mark , then spent the next few laps trying to get in his tow but whenever i got up close enough i made a mistake or two and dropeed behind into the clutches of team mate Steve . I found on my own i could get back up to Syd but again I overdid it onto the pits straight trying to get some Italian air, spun out and shed a wheel , race over  ::)

The alien times where almost as fast as my 67's PB , sure H is using Nitro , either that or hes'e developed a GPLKers device  ;)

The Lotus is probably fastest in general terms out of the Gp1 cars Jethro, But it makes up for it as soon as you make a mistake!  ;D

I did much better than expected after qualifying 6th, Originally had 3rd but never bettered my own time while everyone else proceeded to do so....
Spent the last 6 mins or so of practice on race fuel load adjusting to the decidedly different setup I would be using.

This payed off as I managed to easily stay with the lead pack from the let go. Was both happy and sad to see a pair of cars go off on lap 2.
It moved me upto 4th but looked terminal - I gather from Ken's post that it was in his case -

I spent a fair few laps trailing Evil close enough to capitalise on any mistakes while hopefully not distracting him too much from chasing down Mike - a task he was performing excellently. During this period Fulvio kept catching me then falling back due to errors, eventually we seemed to break free....
Evil then decided it would be a good time to loose it on the exit of T1 in front of me, he held it but in my efforts to go to the inside to avoid him I span big style. This let Fulvio through and he and Evil now had about 3-4 seconds over me.
I rejoined to find Jethro a long way back so tightened the fundoshi and pressed on, eventually I caught Fulvio and Clive and settled in for another waiting game. My luck came through when Fulvio got the wrong gear out of the hairpin while I had a very good exit - this let me through almost easily - thank you Fulvio  ;D

I was back to chasing Evil as he in turn continued slowly reeling Mike in.
Mike eventually made a mistake allowing us past. So after a lap or 2 showed us to be clear of any danger I decided to see if i could make 2nd, the Honda felt good and I was confident while Clive's Lotus was very skittish, if blindingly quick when he peddled faster.
Eventually he span on the approach to the 2nd hairpin so I took 2nd for a few laps. Clive tightened his own Fundoshi and caught me again, only to drop back once more through an error.
The 2nd time he caught me he got past on the run up the first part of the back straight, I followed through the turn about a foot from his gearbox and draft'd past onto the main straight - out braking him to begin the run back towards the S/F line. We continued in this order for the next lap or 2 until clive Misread my entry to the 2nd hairpin and impaled himself in the haybales while awestruck over my majestic recovery from a nasty case of understeer  ;)

Sadly that ended his battle for 2nd/3rd and allowed Mike through some distance behind. Realising he was catching I pressed on as hard as I dared while trying not to make any silly mistakes so near the finish.
Eventually i crossed the line just under a second ahead I think, Very pleased with the result  8)

Congrats to all the finishers and condolences to those who didn't  :)

Happy enough in qualifying and took it easy for the first halp of the opening lap, behind Paul and Ken, who by the end of the back straight were at it hammer and thongs, allowing me to close right up. In the last corner, Ken clipped the grass on the inside and got sideways, Paul then got a tank slapper as he had to lift off. I got the run on the both of them and by the Start Line I was up to second., The pressure eased by T2 of L2 when I caught a glimpse of Ferrari and Brabham heading arm in arm into the woods !!

I pulled out a gap on Evil, but had a spin into the Hairpin on L4 which allowed him to close up, but I seemed to be able to pull away and opened the gap over the next two laps.

I then had a mad panic, when I looked at the fuel reading and thought I had under fuelled the car, I went into cruise mode for the next two laps, trying to do the math and drive Rouen at the same time !! Again Evil and Tim closed in, but with my abaccus whirling away I realised the fuel was fine and started to press on again, only to drop it at the end of the Back Straight, allowing Evil, Tim and Fulvio past.

So I set off in full attack mode reeling in Fulvio, who went mushroom picking at T1, before I caught him, and then it was time for some Wazza catching. THe gap was closing no problems but a half spin on the tight 90 left on the climb from the Hairpin saw me lose 2 precious secs. Then Evil slipped off and it was Tim who was my  focus. I was pulling him in at a sec per lap but time just ran out, you lucky Wazza :D

Grats to Hristo on another Maestro performance, and can you Wazzas keep it down, which other team has 3 front runners on their side ??? I think there should only be two teams the Wazza 3 and the rest of us, then you can become the Wussas :D

Just to clarify, I didn't clip the grass Mike, Paul nudged me from behind. That's why we were both all over the road. Then we touched again at T2 with more severe consequences!!

Just popped back to say an apology to Paul, I may have uttered some minor expletives on the in game chat just after our little coming together but it was all in the heat of the moment. These things happen in racing. We were so close over those series of corners that it is very difficult given the visual restrictions to avoid such incidents. Hope to lock horns at the next Historic race.

I'm nearly gagged when I read of Ms Phlegm's interest in my statistics. I'm a bit green round here, but I'm sure I could hawk up some more facts at the drop of a Kleenex

No problem Ken, I am sorry for the move. It was a bit ambitious and when I got a wheel on the grass under braking it all went pear shaped. :(

Silly of me but I guess there was too much red reflecting off my car :D

Sorry again for ruining your race ( and mine ) We could have given H a run for the champers.

You're confusing luck with pace... just see D1 standings, that shows the clear picture.  ::)

You make your own luck. ;) The picture's been much clearer since you haven't been hogging the top spot in D1 and Amateurs. :)

This is polite banter by the way, I'm not trying to be insulting in any way, and I've had a couple strong beers so my judgement may be as clouded as the ale I've had. :)
