Title: UKGTL Season 8 Endurance - Round 3 - Zandvoort (GP), Holland - Aug 6

Server: UKGTL Enduro
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
(5) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Yes Bill, NOT the 67. It's the one that comes with three circuit choices, Club, National and GP. Were doing the GP.

I believe that a 2 minutes lap is not bad.
Just tested 3 cars yet, Shelby Cobra, Shelby Mustang and a Shelby Aston Martin...kidding... ;D
tested them for 2 laps (as usual)  ::) and managed to do 1.59.7xx

Best so far: 1:59.368 in the Cobra. ;D

Can't get under 2 mins in anything except Cobra, which is more than 3 secs quicker than anything else I've tried

1:59.0 Cobra
2:02.4 TVR
2:02.6 Jag
2:02.7 Cuda
2:03.0 Aston

I am not good with Cobras, so others may go a lot quicker in it, and perhaps others will have it as less different.

Wanted to drive the Aston , as is my wont. but I will be around 4 secs a lap slower, so it's not an option.
Not tried the mini., I struggle with that 1310 one, be interested to see what times good mini drivers get .

57.7 in Cobra now
2:02 in Vette.
2:04 in Mini, but I can't get this one to steer, it's like herding cats

Your Aston laptime is 1 second faster than my Chevy laptime  ;D

oh well, it an endurance race isn't it? I can win some time not changing tires (ah-um)

Nice to do a race on track I know well.... from the grandstands  ;)

ps. racing pics were taken from the dunes on the inside of the track at the last corner ... (Bos Uit or Luyendijk corner)

Ahhh Enduro, missed that bit. even so, easy laps in the Cobra with a "kind to the rears" setup may be
more risky than Aston, But I would probably still lap myself if I took it.
I usually find the Green Cobra a bit easier to drive, but the Blue one seems more stable oddly enough here.

Damn. Qualified 6th, looking forward to the race. Made a good start, into 3rd a few corners later, but Prib said I was lagging so I quit instantly, not wanting to ruin anyone's race. I may have caused Madd to go off because of that so apologies are in order. Shame really, I thought the ethernet adapter thingies may have sorted out my internet but I guess it's just Virgin Media are rubbish  :).

This is the another of several internet related problems that I've suffered and everyones been extremely patient so thanks for that. I've tried but I just can't get a low ping. I may try the Nurburgring enduro by which time, my internet will hopefully be upgraded but if I lag again there, perhaps it's time to end my GTL/PnG career.

Disqualified for not seeing my stop/go penalty. Must have been the one and only pitstop, I didn´t practise pitting and didn´t see the pit light, because there wasn´t any, then messed up my pitstop for repairing the damage. I should have been practising pitstops... And I spun the Mini once, so what a night of mistakes for me! Thanks and see you next time!

Gutted. Having a solid race, running in 11th. Got myself in between 1st & 2nd place battle & missed my braking point & car got all wobbly. Decided to exit rather then take out PR.... despite him battling with my Teamie.

Come on Jim, you can do it!!!

1st victory in GTL though.....WooHoo!!

Very unlucky PR.....really thought that once you had blasted past me on the straight you were going to disappear into the distance...it felt like you were doing a "Rossi" on me, waiting till the very last lap to snatch the victory from my grasp ;D
Great racing as allways guys  :thumbup1:

Catch you next time

Mighty nice race at the  Dunes but - I must admit - marred with incidents. Just after the start a nice battle with my teamie and lots of tyre smoke all around.
When this settled I had a classic Mini vs Chevvy battle with Goldtop57. Could blast past him on the straights but the nimble Mini could easily outbrake me. Good stuff  8)
Unfortunately this ended with GT flipping the Mini on his roof.. what happened there?
After ten laps my tires were shot and was having brake problems with the rear stepping out... this enabled our highly rated admin mister Wiltshire to pass me..
But after putting on new rubber I could hunt down WT again  ;D
Then with a couple of laps to go I made a huge mistake which caused PR to spin. BIG sorry for that.. tried to make room but I ran out of talent. Hope I didn't ruin your race  :-\ (report me if I did!).
After an endurance race in a room which is around 30 degrees Celsius, pretty glad I made it to the end.. and found out that Scheivlak is a helluva corner!!

Thanks all for the clean racing.

No fuel left so the engine stopped  :-[ .

Soooo frustrating, had a rocket start (can you lot not count down from 3?! :P :D ) and then remembered why I don't really like these races with such variety in performance envelopes as I was dive bombed by the Minis, and outdragged and then held up by the heavy metal. :-\ Not to mention the cars playing pinball with each other. That's just not cricket.

Things settled down after a few laps and I started to find my feet again in the Healey, and began to slowly reel Spanner in. I had enough fuel to go the distance, so my stop was going to be a quick visit to the tyre fitters and on my way. Unfortunately I squandered the advantage by biting off more than I could chew into the daft noddy chicane and lost more than the 10 seconds I subsequently gained in my stop. ::)

After that things went from bad to worse, as, as I started to reel Spanner in again, the leaders started to lap me - in those blasted Mini things. ::) Let Lazlow by and then found myself passing him again down the front straight - tried to brake early for T1 to avoid actually passing him but instead of just losing another couple of seconds I lost another 10 when the rears locked and I went off again.

After that I tried to chase Spanner down, but the tyres had cried enough and to top it all off, during the last 5 laps the rear brakes started to overheat. ::) Oh, and despite my testing the fuel load, I still finished with loads left. ???

Good bit'o fun. Fell off way too many times to challenge for a high placing, managed fastest race lap (again)
by some fluke. Got mugged at the start:
1: I must turn down the other cars as I seem to bog down 'cos I can't hear my own engine
2: You've said that before Dave. You may be right, of course we can count down from 3.
But, I "believed" that it went 3...2...1 (variable length second) GO
and to just count 3...2...1...go could result in a false start.

Tailed PR as he hassled Oily for several laps, then did my first off as I went a bit wide into final chicane
to avoid possible contact and went on the beach. fell off lots after that so was only a matter of time...

Really enjoyed that tonight. The sort of mix that always makes for good entertainment value; great to see such a variety of cars on the grid and the different driving styles on show :)

I started steadily but found myself in last place by the end of lap 1 so decided to be a bit more proactive. This meant that
I lapped quicker but spun more often. Had some excellent battles with Alex, Bill, Tony and Smiley. Had a decent pit strategy which meant I gained back some time in the latter part of the race to finish p13.

Unfortunately this ended with GT flipping the Mini on his roof.. what happened there?

Reply:

Yeah that was one of my moments, just caught the edge of the kerb through that silly chicane and it flipped me right over. Did it for real in my youth in a 1275GT, but thankfully only onto it's side. Happy days ;D

I do "3... 2... 1... (pause for plausible denability, then floor it) Go! (thanks, but I've gone)". Only fails when the "Go!" comes up before I've finished my pause.

Congrats on your deserved win Lazlow, you were so damn consistent with the Mini.
My strategy was, 2 laps left I will close enough to the rear end on the last corner
and overtake Lazlow on the S/F straight, because when I did that 4 or 5 laps before,
to keep the lead, I was strugling and melting tires. That is why I decided to keep behind
Lazlow and wait for the last lap. It worked untill I spun when we were lapping Alex.
Alex lost it and I got myself scared, blocked rear tires and voilá...not your fault Alex.
I was afraid to hit you and make more brake pressure on Renault corner.
I thought, only 1 lap and a half to catch lazlow again  :ninja: it could be possible.
However, my subconscious was telling me that if only he made a mistake it would
be reached.  :whistling:  After next left corner, I step to hard and too soon on the throtle
and spun into the wall, damaged the steering and lost almost 20 seconds to lazlow.

But lets back to the start.  :shifty:
After almost 3 weeks with internet problems and several days with no internet at all,
I did 2 laps one week ago with Shelby Cobra Coupe, did 2 laps during practice session
and did 4 laps during qualification. Therefore, I was happy with the 8th place at the grid.
A good start allowed me to go to 3rd place at 2nd lap following mr_oily for 18 laps.
Superb driving by the way mr_oily, not a single mistake from you. And if I never tried
to attack you, I am sure that with your pace at the time I couldn't overtook you, even if
I tried it.  :)
Pit stop went very well, good entry, changed all four tires and when I came back on track,
I was right behind Lazlow. Did you only changed front tires?  Anyway first 2 outlaps were
made with extremely careful and afterwords I began to close the gap to Lazlow, untill our
last 10 laps or so of great and fair driving. I'm so happy to be back and to give
Team Prodigy a podium.

Cheers

Annoyed I missed this one. Haven't got my wheel setup at the moment as the house is a bit of a mess as we just had new Windows and Doors put in, so lots of furniture is moved out of the way (including my PC desk).

Well done on the win Lazlow. Amazed to see the little Mini on top.

Yep, lucky for me the Mini is very easy on it's rear tyres, so I only had to change the fronts...I think the rears were at about "8" at the end!!

It just muller's the fronts!
Well done last night Lazlow, you did really well to win in what I believe is the slowest car in a straight line. Working through the back markers must have been made all the harder for it. You've also managed to get yourself into second in the championship standings, hot on Madd's heals. Not to mention nudging us further ahead of Team Prodigy with API's help  ;D

Seems that the 'AC Shelby Cobra' was the clear favourite last night, with no few then seven of the twenty-three drivers selecting to roar round in it. So when we get to round six at Zeltweg (Osterreichring 1979), there will be no Elan or Cobra to choose. :)

See you all in Poland next week 8) if you're not at Atlanta on Tuesday.

But, I "believed" that it went 3...2...1 (variable length second) GO
and to just count 3...2...1...go could result in a false start.

I do "3... 2... 1... (pause for plausible denability, then floor it) Go! (thanks, but I've gone)". Only fails when the "Go!" comes up before I've finished my pause.

Don't give away this tip again Dave! Been using it for ages, after you mentioned it last!  ;D

I've seen the gap between "1"....... & ....."Go" being anything from instant to about a 2 second delay.
When I've tried your technique, 33% of time I got a great start, 33% of time I got a normal start & 33% of time I got a false start.
I make above average starts anyway, so to me it's not worth risking the stop/go penalty or the increased chance of smashing into the back of the bloke in front. But good luck to those that use it.

I think you'll find using the clutch pedal is the best way to get a head start in GTL. I gained about 8 places last week off the line, some of which was down to the GT40 being powerful, but the first 30 yards was me getting the clutch start spot on.

I lapped quicker but spun more often. Had some excellent battles with Alex, Bill, Tony and Smiley. Had a decent pit strategy which meant I gained back some time in the latter part of the race to finish p13.

Yes that was an exciting period, unfortunately as you were faster than me I only knew which side of me you were attacking so I tried to give you racing room but it's a bit narrow with only a single line in some places.  Consequently I went off on the outside of the track and bounced along the Armco losing places until I was able to get up to speed again.  I ended up last on the road by about lap 13/14.

Then Tony had a moment or two allowing me bye but he powered by on the main straight.  Brought back memories of a P&G race where I caught up on the windy bits and had to overtake on the last corner exit where I was faster only to be blown away down the main straight.  Tony then had a spell all on the black stuff and drew away.

I pitted but lost over a lap with repairs.  Exited the pits and got my head down catching up Tony (a lap behind), it looked as though his tyres were on the way out and I got by and he didn't fight back.  I noticed Alex's orange Vette catching up and can only assume they held each other up as I drew away to finish 16th behind the pair of them 2 laps down.  If only I hadn't damaged the mini it could have been interesting.

Bill

Your right Bill, my tyres had had it. In fact my performance was so dismal I had given up racing and was just determined to make it to the end. Don't know what went wrong for me . The same setup in practice had been fantastic, good enought to give Oily a run in his Cobra. Come race night and it all went pete tong.  :(

Thanks for the friendly welcome, I enjoyed my first race with your league.
I will get a new mic sorted as soon as I can.
Should have taken a different car really, as the Fezza 275 was lovely to drive but way too slow.
Couldn't believe it when I ran out of fuel though, assumed I would have enough. I didn't see any warning light come on.

I have been sim racing for a few years now and have raced most of them, starting with GPL.
Have been racing the Historic Mod for rF recently and so I am very rusty with GTL, and a bit off the pace it appears!!
Hope to join you for many more races in the future.
