Title: UKGTL Season 8 Endurance - Round 8 - Le Mans (Sarthe), France - Nov 19
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 30, 2009, 02:22:40 PM +0100
In case you have been hiding under a rock, there are GTL lobby problems. But.... all is not lost!

This is what I did to connect to the server:
1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

With that fix, there is no need to touch your host file (unless you've already changed it, then you would need to remove the GTL changes you did). If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Qualifying: 20:15 (15 mins)
Race: 20:30 (17 laps = ~80mins)

Track: Le Mans Sarthe v2.0 (download here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54520#post_lemans))
Cars allowed: Any GTC-76 plus GT40 plus Mclaren M1A (Available here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_mclaren_m1a)) plus Fiat Abarth 131 GT (Available here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_abarth131))

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Pit Stops: You must make a minimum of one pit stop during which you must take on at least 1 litre of fuel or change your tyres. You cannot take your mandatory stop at the end of the first lap, or with less than 1 lap to go.

Server: UKGTL Enduro
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
(5) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

HI Alex, out of interest what time of day were you thinking of?

Long, long ago we had an endurance event at the (new) Nürburgring:

https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4494#event1444

It started in relative daylight and ended in the dark...

The race started at 18:00 but I don't know if GTL has the same dusk/dawn settings.

Great choice of tracks btw! Looking foreward to the old Hock and Nogaro

Gosh, apparently I did that race, wish I could remember it!

GTL has a progressive time function but unfortunately it cannot be accelerated when driven via the online server.

Offline you can set time acceleration to look like your doing a 24hr enduro.

We are trying many different time start time settings this season for bit of variety which we hope you enjoy.

However as LeMans is the final event and is kinda traditional we didn't want to muck it about.

However there's always Season 9 and I've already been looking at the VLM Le Mans 1979 circuit  ;)

It's well worth a download

My how time flies when you're having fun.

We're here (almost) gentleman & while Lazlow has managed to seal the Drivers Championship at the last race (Monza), the highly sought after Team Championship is still up for grabs between the "Oldies" & the "Prodigy's".

With PR coming into his own in the BMW at Monza & Oily backing him up with 2nd spot, Team Prodigy managed to claim maximum points & are now only one point behind Team Oldie.
With PR almost certain to again take the top step in his BMW here at Le Mans, can we get a couple of Oldies to fill the podium places & even that might not be enough to stop that Green team :-\

While on top of that, hopefully everyone is enjoying their own battles going on right down the table. Speaking for myself, I know I can realistically sneak into a top 10 place if results go my way, but I'm surrounded by some good drivers (Phil, Matt, Alex & Tudor) & some Prodigy drivers :P ;)(Tibs, Spanner & Tony) who could all yet finish ahead of me.

Bring it on, at Le Mans.

Yes. All the cars have different wear rates. Most will probably need a tyre change, especially if you're new to GTL (the added grip will be handy ;)). Some of the cars will require refueling too.

It's a historic mod of GTR2. It's basically taking the best bits from GTR2 & GTL, all rolled into one. Very nice, but a little tougher to get the hang of then GTL. If you read the first post of any PnG race thread, it will tell you what you need to download to get up & running. :)
If in doubt, PM me & I'll help you get up to speed.

We are of the same opinion & hence they are already on different nights ;)
We've got Riverside tonight for PnG & Le Mans on Thursday for GTL. Both as the end of season events. We'll have some fun events though between now & the new season start in Jan for all :).

On the basis that I'm rubbish at Le Mans whatever I drive, I have been playing with the CSL. It drives a bit like the Blue Capri
but for me it's a bit slower. PR is so effective with it at fast tracks like Le Mans and Monza, that it has to be worth some playtime

Are there any of your setups on line for it PR? I probably won't be able to drive them properly, but I may learn something.

Remember chaps, there is a Team Championship Title up for grabs tonight!
With the Oldie's just One point ahead of the Prodigy's, anyone could win... but if pre-race favourite PR picks up his usual Le Mans win, us poor Oldies will need 2nd & 3rd & hope that the Prodigy's don't finish better then 5th to have any chance with the current scoring team scoring system! :o

Have a good race all & remember it's an Endurance so you don't need to "win" T1 :).

It will be a pleasure to listen to you silently gloating after the race  ::) ;)

Had a picture lock up on lap  2 or 3 lost quite a few seconds before it came back with the odd bright colour.  At the end of the race I escaped and clicked to finish the race and lost it all again.  Hope I haven't cocked up the results.

Had quite a good start and first session, other than the lock up, had an early pit stop which went OK but screwed up the first lap when a bunch of cars came to lap me - sorry chaps but I lost it trying to move off line on cold tyres and went into the kitty litter where my 906 decided to go discoing - quite a show off all those lovely pirouettes.  After that settle down and had a reasonable steady drive to the end apart from missing the first maker at the first chicane and driving through the kitty litter - no showing off this time.

Bill

Well, for a Gentlemen Driver the Pantera is quite a beast to handle! Pfffff..  :sweatdrop:

During the first laps I had a nice dice with Tony W. in the Capri where he was clearly faster until I unleashed the horses on the straight  ;D
Quite liked it but WT decided to go into the pits for a strategic pitstop (I think..).
Then was harassed by a BMW (don't know who??) but again the horsepower surplus saved my day...
Middle of the race was just concentrating to keep the Pantera on the black stuff.
After a flawless pitstop (yes!) a driver behind me started to ear away 2 seconds a lap from a 15 second lead. That certainly wake me up!
Pushed to Pantera (well.. tried to brake somewhat later) en just managed to hold a meager 8 seconds lead in the last laps.
In the last lap my lead went up to over a minute so don't know what happened there  ???
Since I had a great gap decided to do a Le Mans style last lap with lights ablaze  8)

Want to thank Tony & Legzy for organizing these great championship. Seemed long, long ago we started the season on the Lakeside circuit.
Must not always have been easy with the rise of PnG and the lobby issues, but your efforts are much appreciated.  :notworthy:
Also thanks to the drivers I had great fights with (clean but hard) and the aliens who had to put up with me desperately getting out of the way  :-\

Hope we can have another great championship next year!

Rats! Not quite the end to the season us green ones were hoping for but an exciting one all the same. A single point in it after 8 rounds!!

I would have bet my house on PR taking that one but this is motorsport and anything can happen as they say.

I hadn't managed to put a timed lap in all bloomin practice and when qually came ,by some miracle I felt like I was on a flyer. Unfortunately I got too excited thinking of an all Prodigy front row and ballsed it up completely at the final chicane earning myself a cut/ track warning and leaving me with no time on the board lol.

Got a decent enough start - Had some fun with Legz on the first lap and some dices with Blunder, API, Geoffers and a few others but both Jim and Paulo well and truly had the upper hand. I didn't say anything on TS for fear of exposing my vulnerability to those black and yellow gits but I managed to get two cut track warnings by lap three/ four in the race, both at that damn second chicane on the Mulsanne which meant I was constantly in fear of the dreaded stop/ go.

Drove fairly sensibly in the opening stages anyway, conserved the tyres so I wouldn't need to change and that helped quite a bit when it came round to the stops.

PR I'm gutted for ya mate, same with Dyno as you were both having corkers but the trophy cabinet isn't empty (well actually it is lol) so we should be chuffed with the team sprint champ, let the Oldies have their moment, we'll get them next time  ;D. Congrats Old Folk, well deserved.

Congratulations for team Oldie! Great season and a very tight Le Mans enduro! Intense till the end. After I suffered the engine blowout, I was away for a moment and when I got back to watch the final laps, I couldn´t believe my eyes, oily second and PR third? Lazlow leading. Dramatic incidents happening just when I was away from my pc. Sorry PR, I really thought you were going to take this race home by a mile and a half, but as oily said, this is racing. Oily, you did a great job and were quite close behind Lazlow during the last laps. Lazlow, a great win once again!

Guys,  I enjoyed my first race, of course until my little Escort decided to explode.

Maybe I need a setup.  Up to now I have just used GTL default setups offline and this 1st GTL online race.

Probably those long straights did it with me in 5th gear bouncing on the rev limiter for several seconds at a time.

Next time I will try and find a setup        until next time  cheers   fun racing  ;D

I am deeply embarrased.  :-[

It's hard to believe that because a silly mistake, (in 3 years of SIM, I have never done one like this!)
I had blow the team's tittle! What a shame.

But lets review.
I only pushed hard on the first 2 laps and on the last 3 laps. Honestly.
Start went well, kept the 1st position and on the 3rd lap the gap for Lazlow was about 6 seconds.
There was when I started to spare the tires. On lap 10 the gap was 12 seconds, Panteras started to pit
and I still had fuel for more 3 laps. So, I was confident. When I pit I will lose less time adding fuel,
due to less fuel required.
Now the 'inferno' moment.
Perfect approaching to the pits, those ones that you press the pit limiter right before the line
and just when you had brake right in the exact moment to achieve the perfect speed.
My thoughts:"well done Paulinho" (Paulinho is a diminutive for Paulo, what my parents called me
when I was a kid)  ;D
Anyway, add fuel for 6 laps (safe side) changed 4 tires and full throttle. Just before this I pressed
the assigned button on the wheel to activate pit limiter. Now, that timing might have been early
enough (the pressing on pit limiter) too early that game could not assume it? Because I know I did
pressed it. Revs up, spinning rear wheels, a little slide and........needle tachometer up...up...up
OMG  :o I was running at 80km/h, neddless to say that I easy off the throttle right away and repressed
the pit limiter button. But that was too late.... :(
Exit pits in 1st with 14 seconds gap for Lazlow. Got the penalty message for speeding.
Made a good lap before which allowed me to gain 2 more seconds to Lazlow.
But not enough with only 3 laps to the end. Nevertheless I was doing less 2 seconds per lap
untill the end.
Disapointed, very disapointed, I didn't have a single 'cut track' warning and I blow up the race
in the pits for running 2 seconds at 80km/h.... :hammer: damn marshals.  :P
BTW, can we appeal to FIA about this?  :whistling:

What is done, it's done.

Congratulations Lazlow and Team Oldie.  ;)
Thank you for giving me the 2nd place Mr_Oily and congrats for your recovering superb driving.

Thank you all the drivers that allowed always almost a full grid on GTL.
Please don't let GTL die, there are a lot of new cars out there. Lets use them.  ;)

CSL is not for me... I was 11 or 12 secs slower than PR in it. It understeered off a couple of times while I was hassling Alex, and having
a tussle with Tony, 2nd time I went into the fence onto the straight, suspension well bent, didn't have the heart to limp round so quit.

Co-Director hat off... Team Oldie Hat on. :P

Well what can I say? Truly great sportsmen & women are both magnanimous in defeat & victory... oh dear ;D

I am really chuffed. But probably more chuffed about the fact if was a great race last night & on Team Speak, we all had an idea of what the situation was (which just added to the drama). Basically, with just 4 laps to go, Team Prodigy were as good as Champions. Then there was another "Pitting in" text from PR!!! :o

So with three laps to go, I suggested that from memory of the team points scoring system... if Lazlow could possibly do his very best to hold off both Oily & PR (please) & I can possibly maintain my 6th place finish (which would score me 5th Team driver home, as Spanner was the 3rd Prodigy driver) by keeping myself on the track & keeping the ever gaining Phil & his Pantera behind me, then "I think we'll be Champions :-\".

What a nerve wracking three laps that was! Lazlow brought it home & despite a couple of minor twitches from my poor worn out old Cwapi, I got sixth. After that it was almost as entertaining again as we all "discussed" on TS for 20mins, who we thought was now Champions?

Well it turns out that Team Oldie  came out on top by one point, in what was surely the closest championship finish ever! So big congrats to Tinman, Oilseal, Blunder, Me, Lazlow & API (I think that's in age order). Hard luck to Team Podgy, but that made it one team champ each, so something to scrap over next season. But it sounds like the Shark & KC teams are looking to strengthen at the moment, not to mention the the RVS boys, so we're unlikely to have it all our own way again next time.

Good racing all, right through the season, right through the grid. Hope to see you at the fun event (TBA) next week.

Well pleased with 4th place, although at one point I was having ideas of being on the podium :D.

The Pantera is the obvious car for Le Mans, but I had only ever tried racing it twice before & both times crashed heavily in the early laps. Raced the Capri here several times, so I wanted to give something else a go. Tried the BMW & was painfully slow in it, it just didn't seem to have the right gearing for Le Mans, all credit to PR for doing those amazing laptimes in it :notworthy:. So I tried the Pantera again & found a setup that gave me some sort of control over it  ;D

Anyway as things turned out I had a great race in the Panty. The first half of the race was a good battle with Dynosaur & API, not much overtaking but we were always within 2-3 secs of each other. After my stop I rejoined just behind Mr Oily & nearly got ahead before the Porsche curves but he held his line & managed to put enough space between us in the twisty bits that I couldn't catch him on the Mulsanne straight. I then lost a load of time when I drifted slightly track braking for the second Mulsanne chicane & had to take the escape road. Unfortunately the gap between the barriers is quite small & I had to do a bit the shunting back & forth to get through the gap  ::)

The rest of the race was quite lonely, so I came home a distant 4th. Congrats to Lazlow, PR & Oily & also to drivers champ Lazlow & teams champs Team Oldie.

Really enjoyed the racing this season, despite having too many off track excursions, & look forward to whatever the new year brings.

You beat me fair and square there Legzy. Chasing you on the long straight towards the 2nd chicane I locked up all wheels and eased off too late. With no chance of getting through cleanly and risking a cut warning on the outside, I headed for the gravel on the inside. There must be hidden kerbs there because the next thing I knew there was a bang and I was flying. The already-knackered suspension took another pounding, after which there was no chance of catching you. Nice scrap, well done mate.

Thanks to you and Tony for all your hard work in producing a fantastic season's racing. :notworthy: Looking forward to the next one.

Yep I took it down PR - it looked rubbish. i set a better quality one uploading this morning so it should appear soon. Will repost the link.

I wasn't sure if you'd want to look or if it would be too painful :)

all it was lacking was some batman style "kapow" & "Zap" type bubble speech, with PR saying "oh haddock" when you've got the footage of his pitstop (the 1st one >:D ;))

Great footage of some of the battles going on though. 8)

Cheers PR, I think it was all getting a bit easy, obviously thought he'd spice it up a bit :)

Yes thank you for your valuable input as always Legz lol - Cadwell doesn't exist, never has, never will. La la la la I can't hear you la la la.

Thanks for the offer Robert, and for Fraps but I should be able to sort that myself I think if needed.

Hehehe thanks WT, was going for middle of the road as usual :)

Quite looking forward to doing another one (minus the sketchy pan shots!) now I've got half an idea of what I'm doing, I'd do a season review but I'm scared I'd have to give up racing for three years while I complete it lol.
