The idea is to allow ALL drivers of mixed abilities the chance to race. There will be two grids containing the current Amateurs and Novices respectively – GPL Racer will allocate via a similar method so we should end up with an even balance.
Let's have a generous reception for the drivers from GPL Racer. The results of both grids will be combined to produce the overall winners. We will be making the chassis allocations so please ONLY sign up if you are prepared to drive any of the above (also see note below). I don’t want to get bogged down in who gets what across two grids (would feel too much like work and not fun ;)). I will do my best to give you a favourite and you’ll be welcome to play swapsies with each other once allocated. We are hopeful we will be oversubscribed on the basis all are welcome. This being the case we will pick the drivers by lottery. IF we are oversubscribed, and GPL Racer fall short, we would let them have our overflow. Please note: This is being posted early due to the extra organisation required but don’t forget there are still 2 Interleague races on 28/6 and 12/7. UKGPL – 19 GPLR – 13 So you all get to drive we are planning on running two grids of 16. Also, we were going to pull those to be lent to GPL Racer by lottery, but I think this could potentially create an unfair advantage against us ie Hristo, Clive, John, Jethro or other seasoned interleaguers could end up with GPLR. Hence plan is as follows; Grid One – 5 experienced / interleague drivers + 3 by lottery. Grid Two – 2 experienced / interleague drivers + 6 by lottery. The remaining three drivers will be lent to GPLR. Two of these will be Geoff and myself as we also drive in their league. No offence Stiggy but I’d like to place you as the third, that way all the current regulars get to drive with UKGPL. If anyone who hasn’t signed up is still keen to drive please post here as we need reserves (you will probably be squeezed into the race). As regards team captains it wouldn’t be appropriate for me, although I will be running the admin side which will involve the initial chassis allocation. I am going to take the liberty of foisting the job on an experienced driver from each grid. The team captains will then organise tactics and sort out any chassis shuffles. I’m now working on the specific grid allocations and an update will follow shortly. Feel free to comment in the meantime. My tidbit of advice to anyone a bit daunted by Pro and running with the more experienced drivers is remember you need to complete 60% of the race to score (points run all the way down the grid) and there’s three points if you finish (even a lap down) so longevity is the key. I’ve updated the server details and added the passwords. Turning to numbers it looks like we may be a man or two down. Rather than wasting time messing around with driver numbers just before the race and, to avoid anyone being denied the chance to participate, in the event of a teams numbers differing we will count an even number of drivers in the scoring ie if UKGPL only have 8 on a grid only the first 8 of GPLR's will count and vice versa. We could still do with some reserves and it’s likely you would get to race. Finally, for those who don’t normally run Pro, please remember to be ultra-cautious, there’s a big bonus for finishing. It’s a long race and one tap or warp could end in tears for you and your opponent… The track has some long run-offs but watch those rejoins. Firstly, my race report. Great race, really enjoyed it. I don't know why but, before the race, I kept thinking wouldn't it be gutting to put in the time organising it to go out on the first lap ;D Qually was fine, 11th I think, wasn't expecting to be a front-runner. Got away fine so my fears were groundless. One silly solo spin early on which put me down a bit but the rest was clean. Once things had spread out I was running 12th with team-mate Geoff behind (another traitor ;) ) then a gaggle of UKGPL'ers beyond that. When Geoff eventually caught me I didn't put up a struggle - figured he had more chance of moving up the grid. After that I concentrated on keeping those UKGPL guys behind me and getting those bonus points for a finish. Towards the end Phil started to make strides but it wasn't enough and crossed the line in 11th. Should have been 12th but for Remy's off - not seen what happened there. Right, onto the general stuff; Firstly a big thanks to the guys at GPL Racer for helping to make this such a great event. From the posts and chat, in general, I think most agree it went well. I am hopeful we will have a re-run at some future point. Right, the moment you have all been waiting for, the result. This rule applies to the entire racing activity (chat in the lobby and in the session) as well as in the forum of GPLRACER. My short race report: I had a turbo start and got a bit over enthusiastic into T1! Sorry to Fulvio Policardi for that! In the beginning I had some great fighting with Beattie, later in the race with Julien, Clive, Thor and of course Hristo. The highlight was going side by side for nearly one lap with Hristo. I will certainly keep this replay! Besides I got a negative rank during the race. :) This was one of the best races I ever had! Hristo summed it up pretty well: Quote Great, fair racing, some of the best I ever had in GPL. A pleasure to race with such people and an example of how it should be done. No blocking whatsoever, just a single change of line on the straights, and each of us leaving enough room when having another car on the side to account for warp. Cu Stefan |
