LOL, with five races already planned to use the BMW, I thought it might be nice to have one where 'PR doesn't win in the BMW'  :P

Why is there a big old line through the race in the list at the top of the page?

That's a fairly depressing car selection. Will someone PLEASE fix the reflection mapping on that McLaren so it fits in!

Seeing that selection, I smell an Abarth in my future.

Because the server was out of action again. Picnic has managed to switch our provider very quickly & is installing/configuring the new one ASAP. He managed to get GTR2 up for last nights race, GTL & P&G will hopefully be sorted today/tomorrow.

Will someone PLEASE fix the reflection mapping on that McLaren so it fits in!
Sorry, I don't understand  ???. This is the same car we've used in races for the last eleven months.

That's a fairly depressing car selection.
Thanks, I put no time/thought/effort into it  ::).
EDIT - Rather then just criticising something, please get in touch, tell me what you think could help/improve. Even better would have been if you made use of the Track & Car ideas thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6252.0) that Tony & I posted & have referred to many times since. It gives people the chance to have some input into where & what you'll be racing.
Thought has been put into giving every car a chance to shine in at least one race this season, that means you're going to get to see cars that might not have had so many competative chances recently. Hopefully you might enjoy the challenge of driving a different car. :)

I´m sure Steve didn´t mean to bash and underestimate your work (which is highly appreciated). I´m glad there are so few cars to choose from, it makes my life easier and I may have time to test each. And the other one, McLaren looks matte. It is not finished as the other cars are. It looks ugly to me, although I have been able to overcome the bad looks and drive it once or twice, hehe... It is a fast car but a nightmare to get around corners.

Had a few turns here over the weekend just to get a feel for the track. The porka was a blast once I had it set up and seemed quicker and less hairy than the Abarth.

Yet to try the vette, but the McLaren was a nightmare for me even on such an open track :)

Yeah, there are very few tracks I'd be crazy brave enough to take the M1a, but Silverstone '88 is about as close as it gets

There's an update out for this car:
http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=16609&readme=1#readme (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=16609&readme=1#readme)

This is version 0.32 and I think we're running version 0.3.
Haven't installed it tho because don't want to suffer incompatibility issues for this race.
Perhaps something for the future?

Will stick to the 912 because I can't keep the MIA on track...

M1A does look a bit different, is shiny on my replays though. As Legzy says, it is the same one we've used
at a few races in the past. I missed this event last season, and will be driving (real car) north up the
M6 in haste to get back home for this one, and I WILL be driving the M1A even if it's horrible.
i juyst lurve, and am addicted to the sound, oooh baby  :-*

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is the 911 the 911 RSR?  I only have one 911 so I'm guessing the answer's yes.

I'd forgotten just how different the '88 track was to today!

Cheers, Ross.

There's no such thing as a stupid question..... apparently  ;)
Yup, it's the 911 RSR. But you do have two slightly different versions in there to enjoy. A big fat powerful one & the nimble Martini version.

The '88 track version is nice wide & fast.... perfect for cars that need plenty of space to drive! 8)

I've just got GTL installed, patched and added the downloads for cars / tracks you guys require. Server is now online for testing. I don't have GTL installed so can't currently test it myself so if anyone can confirm all is ok I'd appreciate it.

Currently all cars are available but that will change for the race.

36.9 in M1A so far with full fuel, not sure of all the corners yet though.

Must be Abarth or M1A  :-\

Stupid me :censored:

Had to make a stop and go because I cut the track too many times.
Got in the pit and wanted to continue asap and hit Escape
Race over.....

Until my retirment I had much fun with Legzy passing each other every lap once or twice.
Really like the track / car combo.

Hope the rest of you made it to the finish.

Thanks Legzy.  First time after following instructions, using the Kerbcrawlers 911 I got CTD so I rejoined using a standard car it was OK then.

Made a right pigs ear of the start.  Alex vV crept at the start then bogged down at the start I pulled around him in 2nd straighted up changed up into 3rd (lifting on the change) but the car leaped to the right into the barrier when I accelerated.  Sorry to drivers behind me - messed up the suspension.  After that the handling was twitchy and getting terrible right rear locking and handling useless.  Quit on lap 5 when everyone started to lap me.

I must have really made some bad decisions on my setup! That Fiat was undrivable for me pretty much!! Just wants to send me into a tank slapper for daring to try and get around a bend. Sorry to the mclaren that collected me I just couldn't get it straight! Sorry!!

Anyway lap kme went from 9th to last with my 1st 'moment' then got back up to 9th for a bit then a quiet few laps until moment described above, which gave me a puncture so limped around for a stop but I stupidly thought the smoke from my wheels was body/suspension damage so didn't change tyres. Came out still with smoke pouring off my car and almost no steering so thought I best quit rather than get in the way for another lap! Looked a mighty scrap for 2nd to 5th I was watching for a bit! Nice :)

So, I've done my duty of checking driving standards thru the field :p
I just need to make sure that oily isn't cheating next week ;)

Woohoo!  ;D What a brilliant race! Qualified on Pole and won the race so I'm very happy  ;D. However, that was certainly a lot of work!

When the flag dropped, I made a good start and proceeded to break away from the pack. Everything was going brilliantly for the first half of the race, apart from a trip on the green stuff at Becketts, but the Mclaren had eaten it's tyres alive at half race distance! With a 20 second cushion over Minton, I felt I didn't have enough time to pit, so I put up with my well-used tyres for the rest of the race. About 5 laps from the end, the Mclaren was virtually undrivable, the rear just wanted to swap ends constantly and I had hardly any confidence with the car. This allowed Minton to close up on me at a frightninig rate. When the chequered flag was up, he was less than a second behind  :o. If the race was a lap longer, I reckon he would have passed me.

Well, I'm certainly happy to have won my first race in GTL, and here's hoping I can win a few more  ;D. A big thank you to those being lapped as well, you were extremely kind in letting me through, though I did have a scary moment when Prib was spinning his car around in front of me! Meh, added some entertainment value. See you all at the next one.

Enjoyed that one, though as always (for me) in M1A it was "testing"
Qualed 6th, not bad, was in 4th place by T1, went on grass being over cautious for room
and dropped to 15th... caught people then kept falling off going off line to pass
For me the Mc is a one line car, go off line and I lose the back even with my
ridiculously pushy setup, got it together a bit people fell off some, was minding tyres
when realised I had more than half a tank of fuel left, car was handling as at the start
and we were on lap 29!!! c'mon Matt wake up will ya.
Almost caught Lazlow, but fell off being too keen on the power
"Virtual flash of lights" to all who made passing easy, particularly Mr Blunder
who had to put up with me passing a couple of times due to me falling off
But the Mac has no headlights.

Good race that,   ;D   managed to get on the server and get a few practice laps before the race which i needed bigtime.  Bogged a bit of the line but managed to slot in behind the three Maclarens . Stayed with them for a couple of laps untill there straight line speed let them pull away. Got in front of Oily after he went of but had Tibs hunting me down and after a few laps of trying he managed a nice move into Stowe.  Couldn't really latch onto Tibs as the Porsche had much more grip on the brakes and mid corner .  Forgotten now how i got into second place but stayed there untill the end , maybe could have passed Samb with an extra lap but Grats to you mate you won the race in the first half of the race. ;)
Grats to Tibs on third nice drive.

Bara, i just used the default set up and it felt ok  . One thing i did learn about the Arbarth is that you cant flick the car to change direction otherwise it just wants to spin...have to be quite gentle with the steering.

Great to be back racing with you guys Always a pleasure. :)

Grats to Tibs on fourth i mean. :-[

I kept getting a CTD when the players were loading, sometimes after 3 or 4 other times nearly everyone.

One thing I noticed, I have 6 McLarens in my McLaren folder but only 2 were available when I tried to join! Is that correct?

My loading issues (looping) were when dynosaur name showed up. Just his name looping.
When he had left server for changing car, everything went well and I could join.

Awesome race for me. Will write up a full report like last week if I get the chance, but with moving and packing I might not. (Will miss Adelaide sadly due to moving next Thursday.)

Made my usual demon start. Sadly I ducked out too far and went onto the grass and dropped myself to last or thereabouts. Then a Porsche spun in front of me, I took avoiding action and had a chat with the barrier. *sigh*

Figured it was going to be dull, and it was until Blunder spun and I caught him, then we had an epic tussle. Like last week I was fast in the twisty stuff and he had the legs on the straight. (Though the discrepancy was nowhere near as big this week.) I'd get very close over the final sector, then he'd pull away in the first two, and I'd pull him again etc...

Lap after lap I followed. One time I dived down under the bridge into the final complex but went wide and let him back through. Really had to figure out the best place and noticed I could carry more speed off the Hangar Straight, so decided I'd stay a gear higher and try and keep the revs up. Worked, dived through.

Lots of fun out there. Really got into the groove toward the end and felt I was driving really well. Ultimately finished 10th scoring what I BELIEVE is my best ever regular season finish. YAY!

Thanks guys. I'll be back on track in two weeks hopefully. (Barring any issues getting Internet sorted.)

I had a bad one, spun several times causing some of you trouble in avoiding me, sorry for that! And Baracus, it was me in the McLaren who crashed with your Abarth. I just didn´t know which way you are going to end and took a wrong guess and collided heavily with you. I felt sorry for you when I saw a thick trail of smoke behind you when you limped away. My can didn´t get any significant damage at that point.

My race was full of spins, at least 4 times, mostly trying to lap people, McLaren is a pig when trying to straighten the spin. My lack of talent.

Grats to podium guys! And thanks for all the lapped for letting me through safely (which I often blew by spinning). Too bad Mac has no headlights.

All in all, this race is one to forget for me.  :o

It was a last minute decission to join in last nights race so I had to quickly jump in what I thought would be the easiest car to drive - the FIAT.  At the end, despite being a long way off the pace, I thoroughly enjoyed the race.  Don't think my setup was any help to me but I managed to keep it pointing in the right direction most of the time.  Would appreciate it if Minton and Ade would put their setups in the Sou on-line folder as I sure it would help me in future.
I am away on holiday for just over a week so see you when I return.

Oh one other thing did you appreciate that FIAT is an acronym for "fix it again Tony" which might explain 'baracus250gt' problem ;)

Great fun this one in the end despite me practicing in the Mclaren and then switching to the 911 5 minutes before qualy.  Many thanks to Lazlow for his set-up otherwise I'd have been stuck.

Finished as high as I think I was able to even if I'd not had an early spin on the final corner when battling Lazlow and Tibs or lost some time waiting for a backmarker I'd accidentally knocked off the track.

Much apologies for that by the way - I'm sure it was 'M Cooper' but I can't see his name in the line-up?  Sorry for knocking you off at turn 3, I got caught out by your earlier braking I'm afraid, I waited and saw that you got back on okay but I hope your car wasn't damaged for the rest of the race.

EDIT:  found you Mike, it was 'Oilseal', really sorry again about that lapse on my part.

Had a great time catching and eventually just passing Tinman near the end of the race - just about my first proper pass that I've actually managed to make stick!

Go Team Prodigy!  Down with the Oldies.

Cheers, Ross.

You reep what you sow....

Little practice, knew the M1A would cook it's tyres so took the safe option!
Pretty dull race but all my own fault!

Not much to say in fact.
Qualified at the back, made a good start and at lap 3 or 4 I was in 8th and that was when
my lack of skill driving the Vetteboat began to show up. Not many mistakes...3 spinings
overall, during 30 laps it isn't too bad.  :P
A few good moments with Legzy's Vette (I was not the only crazy )  8) and with Tinman
that watched my first Runaround Sue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c49klxPex-k Vette.  :)

Dynosaur wrote:"It was you Laurie, who I passed a few times and then spun right after the pass and let you by again, hehe!"
And I add: Laurie saw me spining the other two times, just after I lapped him. So, his Fiat must
have something like 007 cars that disturbed us.

Congrats to podium and to all that finished. Hats off for McLaren drivers for kepting the cars
on the tarmac.

Cheers

P.S. I forgot to mention Blunder as another Vette crazy driver.  ;D

I'm really pleased with the way the split in cars worked, with the 911 being just slightly more popular. I knew the M1a would be the fastest but that as the race progressed, the worn tyres (or possible pitstop) would bring it back in line. So chuffed that seemed to work out too.

My race sadly was a bit dull too. Did some laps on Wednesday night but intended to get myself sorted properly in the hour upto the start of the race. Instead I ended up with only a few laps under my belt as I tried to help people that were having connection problems. Still at least they all got in in the end (I think).

Did have one really good spell with Sandor. We traded places about two/three times a lap for about five laps. That was most excellent. But my lack of preparation meant I had some serious shortcomings in my Vette's setup & the serious shortcomings in my skill level were not able to make up for it. Couple of brief moments with a couple of other drivers in between my spins ::).

Still, I finished ahead of Blunder  :P :D

Congrats to SamB. Good to see Minton back. While Oily has managed to work a decent early gap at the top of the leader-board.

Laurie spread oil on the track, that must have been the reason we had a hard time passing his (leaking) Abarth.  ;)

Had great difficulty joining. Got the dreaded "looping", first with dynosaur (who was shown driving a 911S), then with Oily, dynosaur and Ross (shown driving 1310 Minis), then with ross (shown with the GTL pacecar). The common denominator must be our perpetual nemeses, those pesky Prodigies lol.
Eventually all sorted (by Legzy, I think).

Qualified in 11th, my best qually time being recorded on full race fuel (someone must have an explanation as to why that always happens).
Okay start, followed Ade for the first lap. On the second lap he seemed (to me) to brake earlier into the 2nd gear corner and I slid in to him. My fault entirely and I have already PM'd an apology and reported myself to the race stewards. Ade finished a place behind me, which I don't think is fair, so I should be demoted (at least) one place. Humble apologies, Ade.

Anyway - I then had a good tussle with Pribeiro for about 4 laps until he spun out (unaided by me, I hasten to add). It then all got pretty lonely until about 4 laps from the end when ross caught me for 5th and I could'nt keep him behind me.
All in all an enjoyable race.
A point of interest is that (for me) the heavier 911RSR was faster at this track, which has not been the case for me at any other track. Probably the high speed nature of Silverstone.

Knew that was going to be a challenge in the M1A and I wasn't disappointed!

Great little qually battle with Sam, pipping me to pole by a tenth or so, but I think in the end but we all knew it was going to be about the race pace and tyres!

It was really obvious the Mclaren would be in bad shape in the closing stages due to tyre wear so I knew that this time, I would have to do more than just think about conserving tyres as I have in the past and then just drive flat out anyway, I would actually need to take it easy or I wouldn't be finishing at all!

Off the grid I wanted to stick with Sam and eek out that all important gap together but his pace was just too hot, so I quickly settled for sitting in second in the hope his tyres would go off or that he'd make a mistake when mine were in much better shape - oh and that I'd be able to hold off Dyno! I've never appreciated quite how difficult it is to run a pace just below your maximum...clearly another skill lacking from the toolbox! Not only did i find I was making more mistakes running slowly in the early stages but I was misjudging the pace too, letting off too much then going for a blast to gain it back and so on.

Couldn't believe the pace of both Minton and Tibs who were looming in the mirrors towards the latter stages and as i tried to use the extra speed of the Macca to peg a steady gap still managing those tyres, I think i made another mistake which saw me on the grass. Really hoping there'll be a lap chart available so I can see how it all panned out.

Anyway for the first time ever,  I could actually see I was succeeding at managing wear at times (well smoking less anyway :)). The numbers weren't climbing at such a rate on the PD (22 LR by the end still!) and towards the end of the race i had a feeling I was in better shape than others and was hopeful of a late charge on Dan for second. That might have been a bit optimistic, I realised I'd let the gap grow too large and was running out of laps - at this point I started to really push and the inevitable super slow piroutte happened towards the exit of Becketts ruining any chance of catching him and putting me firmly into the clutches of Tibs, who I have to say pulled out an absolute blinder around here- well done mate!! If it hadn't have been for your spin that podium was yours.

Really bad luck to teamie Dyno, again clearly had the pace but caught out by that damn pendulum effect of the M1A. Aside from that a fantastic Prodigy finish with green ones 3rd, 4th and 5th. Lovely Jubblee.  ;D

Next!

Your wish is my command: Lapchart (http://uk.geocities.com/bcl03z/GTLlapCharts/GTL/Silverstone88_02-07-09/index.html)

It's funny to see on the Gaps graph SamB opening up an increasing gap, till his tyres are shot & everyone starts closing back in on him

Well....

Early this week I had the brilliant idea to map some less used options to buttons on my G25.
Somehow I messed my whole config up and but found this out during/after the race.

Reason I had problems on the starting line was that my clutch pedal was not working and without autoclutch this causes the engine to cut out.
Problem was that the car moves when this happens (starter motor) so I had a stop/go before the race started  :(
Big apology to Bill for messing up his start, but could only get away after 3 times restarting the engine  :-[

When I took the penalty it turned out the pitspeed limiter button was also not working.. so I crept to the pit hoping not to break the speed limit..
Returning on the track I had problems downshifting to 4 on the H-shifter... probably the heat and me desperately figuring out what  :censored: happened!

.. and that was only after 1 lap  ;D

Way down the field I soldiered on and actually got a decent rythem where I could thrash the Porsche around.
Enjoyed all the fighting around me and trying to find the apex through all the tire-smoke....
Thanks Ligel for giving me a challenge to try to catchup (and spin again). Good to see you back.

All in all a pretty desastrous race for the Gentlemen Drivers. Things can only get better for this moment on (I hope).

Had to make a stop and go because I cut the track too many times.
Got in the pit and wanted to continue asap and hit Escape
Race over.....
You should really pay more attention at Q's briefing. The purple button is the dump-oil-on-track button and the green one is for the smoke screen. The red one is the Eject button   ;)

Bara, i just used the default set up and it felt ok  . One thing i did learn about the Arbarth is that you cant flick the car to change direction otherwise it just wants to spin...have to be quite gentle with the steering.

Yeah I know what you mean. My main problem was coming out of corners where it sometimes just wanted to carry on it's trajectory and not responding to straightening the wheel, coming off throttle, blipping or any combination of these which normally gets a reaction of some sort on any other cars I've driven. The moments I had were extremes of this behavior where I had clipped my outside rear on the grass on an exit (thru understeering) and just not had any 'feel' to correct it so it just pendulumed into a full spin or sudden 90 degree lurch!

Laurie - I'm wondering if FIATS also stand for Firing Itself At The Scenery?!
(excuse the extra S - needed it to make my pun work hehe!)
