Will be a GTC for me, but I've no idea which one. As I'm running the F430 in the GT2 enduro & ran the Z4 last season... I'll be hoping to be in something else this season :-\

GT1, pc willing  :) Quick go in MC12, Aston and Viper and I was on exactly same pace in all. Mind you that was way off pace set by Ruskus above, work to do I guess :)

Excellent track for GT1 by the way.

Gonna have a final go in the Marcos at the weekend to compare how much fun it is compared to the MC12.  Then I'll decide what I'm gonna take, but the thought of abandoning the MC12 is painful

Sticking with trusty Aston for this one. Does anyone know when the server will switch to Zhuhai, it appears to still be on Estoril. ???

I am planning on driving the GT1 Viper for this season. I do not have the testis for the Marcos I am afraid.

Here are a few short clips from the Edmonton test race that I have been meaning to put up. It shows my dramatic race end:

whats a quasi decent laptime around here in a GTC ?

I can do 1:38 in the Mosler with 50mins worth of fuel onboard, but not sure if i need to find more pace in it.

Look at the lap records MJ, we've raced around here before in GTC, check the past races. I'm sure i've done a 36.5 around here before. but then i could be wrong. Just ignore me. nothing to see.

Post by: Mark J on July 17, 2009, 07:43:33 AM +0100
oh yeah forgot the lap records...D'oh !  :wetfish:  in that case i am flipping miles off the pace in the Mosler albeit with heavy fuel load onboard  :-[

Got down to a 37.1 with qually fuel on but still well off lap records.

hmm, i can do 1:37 with 50mins fuel within 3 laps of using the F430 GTC. Is there a Legends skin for this car? It shows a Legends listing under the 3 available skins but the Legends car is just plain red on the showroom view. ???

I've been scraping mid/ low 36's in the 360.....lap records were set a while ago....when the posrsh...portch...porsht.... German thingy was ruling the roost.....I reckon 36's/37's will be about the current pace....excluding aliens.

Hang on, thought the legends car was red. Wast it that one that you'd used the wrong template for and as an emergency measure it was just left as red? Though that was at the beginning of the last season.

If it has it'll be in the pack - if you can see the other skins for the same car it wasn't. We didn't do any new ones for the 2.10 pack.

Glad to hear some others are struggling for pace as well. I've done far more laps in the Aston than usual (passed it off as testing of me pc ;) ) and still a little off pace I did in last sprint race here. Gotta say the Aston is a lot more tricky to drive fast than it first appears and I haven't managed it yet. An interesting new challenge, many thx Dave/Pseudo  :)

Has anyone else noticed a very slight flatspot in the Aston as you pull outta slow corners? Thats my excuse sorted anyways.

Not a flat spot, but quite a bit of snap oversteer coming out of corners. Did a 32 lap stint last night, got down to a 29.4 in race trim, and consistantly high 29's to low 30's for whole stint, which will do for me come race day. Do need to tune out the oversteer though, anyone got any ideas? ???

I may do some laps in the MC12 later just to compare, but I reckon it'll be Aston all the way for me.

Aston feels awkward around here and not able to push with it. Have had to soften everything up just to stop it spinning up especially out of turn 1 and to get some grip back. Still early days but managed a 31 with it, trying to stick with though.

I too found the Aston to be more 'perky' while exiting slow corners this season.
My simplest suggestions for correcting 'power exit oversteer' would be... Decrease Power Diff / Increase Front Slow Rebound / Decrease Rear Slow Bump...
Hope it helps you (if it does, remember to let me past you  ;)).

Me too Legz, at least we will both have someone to race against  :) I am still un-decided on car choice. I fancy taking a different car but the Porsche comes back to me as a comfortable pair of slippers when i try it after each other GTC car. My other choices are Mosler or F430 but my motivation for an endurance series wouldnt be as strong in those cars.  :-\ Those other two cars do sound great though. Hmmm.

Besides you all like racing and attempting to beat me in a Porsche  ;)

For me, it's either Fezza, either Porka, the Morgan or Viper (could of been the Z4 too, but I want a change).
So as I've basically got at least seven cars to choose from of about the same pace... well done Dave for the balancing job.

Your hardly narrowing your options there Legz ;D

Finally sorted out what the main issue i had with the Aston was, too much rear brake bias was causing it to oversteer when hard on the brakes and turning in! Looking forward to this now 8)

Not had any time to praccy or prepare properly for this one...so not at my best.

I was just about finding a rhythm though in a good battle with Matt ahead and Legzy just behind when caught by the leading GT1's....Think a teamie clocked me after a rush of blood  ::)...(must be the heat  ;)) and I ended up in the deep gravel with a rear puncture...so race over.....at least I missed the thunderstorm

Grats to podie's and winners.

That end to my race just about wrapped up a dysmal race event for me.  :(

Came flying around a corner at full chat chasing Legzy and hit a stationary/Disco'd Spanner in an Aston  :o My car launched into the air in a spectacular end over end barrel roll..race over  :(

I sucked big time anyway, bad preparation, indecision of car choice, lack of praccy, no decent setup and too much P&G lately left me floundering  :-[ I dont even like the track !  :P

Not a great showing for the Legends in GTC with all 3 of us at the back of the field, one to forget in a hurry. ::)

Loved GTC last season...having to race with GT1 cars seem to take the shine off this great formula for me..didn't help things when I got shunted up the rear by a GT1 car whilst on the racing line in the braking zone severe rear end damage..undrivable..race over..GTC and GT1.. is it a good mix..?  :-\

Anyway congrats to the podium GTC/GT1

Well, typical! I dont think i've actually finished a race seemed to happen every bloody time.

Was really happy with how things were going, managed to avoid the carnage, tyres slowly going off but was trying to manage it till my stop in a few laps and happy with the pace.

Err how shall i word this. What the hell happend on the pace lap? ???

This game hates me :) Think I've cured pc problems by leaving processor fan on manual setting, its noisier but cooler, and me engine gos and blows up 8 laps from the end. Typical Aston.

Go to say standards were excellent from GTC gents as its a bit tricky. Off to Spa next time out (rubbing it in there ;)) so cya in two weeks.

Congrats to Freq who at least I kept honest.

p.s. chap in Pseudo GTC Viper may need to re-calibrate his brake pedals or something as his brake lights were coming on in main straight etc.

Hadn't raced GTR2 since May 31st at the end of last season and was going to race GT1. Joined the server in the Lister, but saw the balance of GT1/GTC wasn't very good so both me and Picnic swapped to GTC to even it out. Hopped in my trusty Morgan and managed 3rd on the grid with my Brno setup.

I kept with the leading two GTCs for the first half of the race, but just before the pitsopts API made a mistake in his Mosler and I was through into the lead. Took my pit stop and had a 40 second lead to API again. Just cruised around for the last 35 minutes making sure I didn't fall off or break the car.

1st and 5th in both categories is a great result for the team to start the season off with.

Big performance gap between GTC and GT1, was quite scarey at times how quick those GT1s got up to you.

Sorry JPS, that was me, thought that the gap you left on left hand side was for me, only to see it very quickly dissappear.

Congrats Freq, nice fight TT at the begginning, was able to stay with you until we hit the traffic, I got taken wide by a Legends porker, then went off again trying to catch you up. Then spent all my time after pitstop trying to close down Jose A. Started 15 secs behind, ended up about 3 behind, too many mistakes trying too hard.

Congrats all.

Unlucky Gin :(, I thought your pc had flunked again.

My race was pretty eventful. Only fell off once, that was until I started catching the GTC guys. Didn't want to chance it going into the corners, so waited for a straight which put me off line for the corners. Result: lots of visits to the gravel. API and Prof must have been sick of the sight of me (by the way, nice to see you back Prof).

Had good battles with Fishtail and Smokey until I went ahead at the pitstop. managed to topple off once too often with a couple of minutes to go and hit the wall causing a puncture and aero damage. Got to the pits and changed tyres, forgot to cancel fuel and then had a stop go penalty in all the excitement. Managed to limp it round (hope I didn't get in anyone's way) and served my stop go with the clock at zero. Crossed the finish line in the pit lane for 10th place ::)

Congrats to podiums :)

It was fun indeed. ;D

Guilty. Sorry mate. It was the classic mistake to make when following close. Bad judgement on my part. I definitely ruined a good race then. :(

Well done podiums. 2nd in the Marcos TT??? !!! :D

Speed difference between classes gives GT1 the option to muscle through. GT1s need to be patient. I hope I was patient enough when I was coming through from the back. I did not want to ruin any more races tonight. Thanks GTC runners for being so polite.

I did enjoy driving the Viper but its not easy. :sweatdrop:

I was shocking tonight  :-[ :-[

Sorry to everyone at the start, spun on the formation lap, was coasting round corner and slightest touch on the pedal gave me full throttle  ??? did it for a few seconds after aswell so not sure what was going on there.

First stint i was rubbish, no consistency at all and all over the place, didnt do enough practice in this car.  Then i did the unspeakable and took out my team boss  :-X Really sorry bob, totally lost my bearings in the braking after lapping a car. Did a drive through to calm down.

Second stint i was much better but still off the pace.

Not sure what to do about car choice now as wanted to drive a different one but after that display i might go back to a car i know.

Grats podiums.

Enjoyed that. Probably my most consistant race yet.

Seemed to be matched for pace by 57goldtop and Smokey in the first stint, only changing places with them when one had a spin.

I pitted 1st out of us 3 as my soft fronts were on the limit, and a few laps later was side by side with Smokey as he was exiting the pits!  :o I held my nerve into the 1st corner, but with cold brakes and tyres Smokey conceded the place, and I managed to keep him at bay (just) for the last stint.

I thought Goldtop was uncatchable at 20 secs ahead with 12 or so laps left, I guess he had a trip in the gravel as the gap dropped down to 8 sec then, I was lucky to see him the the gravel again which gifted me 8th.

Thanks to the GTC lads, I just tried to be patient and pass on the long straights. I can imagine Legzy saying "I told you so..." as I passed him, only to drift wide and let him back through!

Not a good night for you then Gazza? surely there's a forefit for taking out the team captain?  ;D

Made some 50 laps in the Marcos, trying some desperate settings I never used before. Seems like it payed off. The car is awesomly powerful, so I was working on stability mostly.
Came 3rd in Q2, much to my surprise. :o Sure enough Freq was 1 sec and sbg 0,6 sec faster, but they're from somewhere out there. ::)  I wouldn't think it possible to accomplish this a few months back - and it wouldn't be without fixing the brakes. Again, thanks to all who made it possible. Though - this track was suited to Marcos, might be different elsewhere.

Stewprovo was close and only to my mighty engine was I able to stay in front. Marcos may not be good to catch others, but it's great to stay in front.  ;D  SBG was easing away and the gap to 4th was growing slowly, so I concentrated on braking oversteer - less than before, but still present, though it can be handled now and I hope to transform this weakness into advantage. Need more laps. ::)

GTC were great, letting me by eagerly. One thing about Marcos is that it doesn't like going off driving line. Becomes unstable, locks up and drifts all over. I think Legzy had a scary moment in T7 and Lazlow wisely let me have the racing line in T1.  :D

Two Legends had accidents, too bad. Speed differences were scary and it was difficult to judge weather to push or wait for the next straight. I was trying to do it safely, though, as I said - off line... :o  Glad you could make it, Colin. Hope you have time/will to race with us. 8)

Bad luck SBG, you had 2nd place secured.  :-\  Grats to podys.

I did enjoy driving the Viper but its not easy. :sweatdrop:

Wanna try Marcos? :P  You might also consider it, Gazza. :)  Would be glad to have a session with you guys (or any) so you can at least decide knowingly. Marcos is much better now. And THE ROAR!

Did a few laps of practice on Saturday and I'm glad I did - spent the hour before the race, when I was expecting to be practising, trying to persuade Windows Server Update Services to stop mullering my bandwidth.

Spent most of qualifying working on my race setup, and did one brief run right at the end on low fuel to jump up a couple of grid slots. During the opening laps there was a gaggle of 5 or 6 of us but after a few laps that started to spread out and I was able to pull away from 57GoldTop and Fish Tail.

By half distance my tyres were starting to go off a little so I popped into the very busy pit lane for fresh boots and more go go juice. Think I came out dead last in class :o but of course gradually moved back up the order as others pitted and a few came to sticky ends. Was very lucky not to get collected by Spanner's stuck Aston and hurridly called it out over TeamSpeak to the other Sharks.

After Stewprovo's stop I thought I was in with a shot of catching him, but after a few laps he started to pull away and I had to concentrate on keeping my pace up to avoid getting caught by Gazza.

After taking the flag I watched various cars cross the line and saw GoldTop pit at the end of his last lap. We guessed he didn't realize the race was over so I used chat to encourage him to drive to the line before quitting - wouldn't have wanted him to lose a lap if he didn't twig what was going on.

ps. GTCs were excellent and I tried not to be too aggressive, though I think my poor braking performance into the slower corners nearly had one or two rear end me in surprise. :o

The one place I was cursing people for trying to let me through was on the outside of the flat out right hand kink after the chicane; you just can't go through there flat out off line and I had a couple of hairy moments getting flashed through there when I would've been happy to wait for the slow right after it or even the kinked straight after that. Not a problem getting flashed through on the right side there although the cars concerned must've lost a fair bit of time slowing to make the corner themselves. ???

The closing speeds were pretty impressive but IMHO it made lapping safer by making it easier to pass under power down the straights. The GTCs were pretty quick in the slower corners so there wasn't much frustration factor when waiting for a corner or two before going past.

Very much enjoyed that kick off to the new season.

Settled on F430 that I skinned last season with only five mins to go before the event started. Didn't manage to get more then half a lap in P1 as I was faffing  ::) But set a PB on my 1st timed lap & then managed to improve it again! :o :-* So was surprised to only be 7th GTC on the grid ???

While under the close attention of Colin, I followed Ade till he had a moment at the double left hander & we both slipped through. Then I tracked down Psuedo as I managed to pull away a little from Colin. We stayed like that for a good few laps till Psuedo was taken out by a lapper from his own team! So again I slipped through.

Was running well, but I lost 20 seconds & received front end damage when I came together with Prof. I was letting a lapper through at T1 & continued the turn totally unaware that Prof had not only caught me somehow but was sneaking up the inside too :o . Sorry Prof, I've not seen the replay to see exactly what happened, my car seemed to suddenly jerk right (so I wonder if I placed half a tyre on the grass?) & bam I hit you. It was somewhat of a shock as I hadn't seen you & couldn't hear your car for the noise of the GT1. So sorry mate, but as you'd long gone by the time I recovered I assume you were OK?

Decided not to repair the damage & held on to third GTC spot from the moment I'd left the pits, despite Lazlow managing to get the gap down to only one second from the fifteen when he finished his stop. Nice driving mate, you'd of had me if you'd pitted a couple of laps earlier! Good result for the team though, pushing the Shark Teams points total already.  ;D

Finished third overall which I'm very pleased with, but can't help but think it would have been 2nd without the crash as API was only 6-8 seconds ahead the whole 2nd half of the race. No matter, enjoyed the race  8)

Well done all the podium guys tonight & a thanks to all the lappers who displayed patience tonight. I thought the GT1+GTC mix worked well. Not a massive difference through the corners, but it was very easy to set themselves up to out accelerate me at corner exit. Appreciated all the guys doing that  :thumbup2:

There was only one place I had confusion whilst being lapped and that was out of the 2nd/3rd/4th gear double left handers about 2/3s the way around. You have to pull from the right hand side where the exit of second corner is over to the left quite soon for the next tight right hander and there were a few times where I got caught there. I wanted to go over to the racing line but ended up in one of those moves where you start pulling one way, see the GT1 pull that way, then pull back, see the GT1 do the same thing and then end up looking like your weaving to stop them coming through LOL. Very confusing. I like to stay on the racing line most of the time when letting people through as it's predictable, but that corner you have to go from one side to the other so it becomes tricky.

I would have to look at the replay too Legzy as things were a bit busy in that corner. I think four of us, two from each class went into turn one and as I was about to accelerate out, Jose lost it right in front of me causing me to hesitate momentarily on the gas to avoid him but meaning you probably accelerated sooner and nudged me - I thought the contact was with Jose as I tried to miss him and I was mystified to see two cars spinning in my mirrors. Racing incident as far as I am concerned. Please tell me where you recruit your pit crew as your pitting lap was 40 seconds faster than mine  :D

I enjoyed the futile chase of Lazlow in the other Z4 for a while in both halves of my race and spent the rest of the race trying to keep out of the way of the GT1s on the straights and trying not to rear end them if they caught me near the corners where my Beemer was excellent.

Nice to be racing again and congrats to all the podium winners.

p.s. It would be nice to get a few non-Shark moderators for GTR2. Please pm me if you are interested. You do not need to be an 'alien' to be an effective moderator and it helps keep the driving standards here remarkably high.

Thanks for that Dave :) I needed to take a stop go on my last lap otherwise I guess I'd have been dq'd. Just lucky that my garage was before and not after the finish line ;D

Many apologies Jose - it was something fast and red and scarily sideways. I must learn to drive with those label things on  ;D

I will check it out again but, I had real trouble in that thing in my previous attempts at driving it. See how it goes.

Do you want to upload your set up from last night? ;D

didn't help things when I got shunted up the rear by a GT1 car whilst on the racing line in the braking zone severe rear end damage..undrivable..race over..

Sorry JPS, that was me, thought that the gap you left on left hand side was for me, only to see it very quickly dissappear.

No worries Stewprovo, would of expected a pass on the inside right on a right hand turn...just one of those things :)

Oops...I didn't mean to leave it this late to post here  ::)

Was a fun race at the start with Ginsters behind and following close. Only when we hit traffic did the gap start to open up a bit. I'm surprised at the gap I had out of the pits, thought that the Aston would be more fuel efficient than the Viper (3l a lap). Not long after, the gap was up again when Ginsters lost his engine. Any warning, like health dropping? I think I finished on 92%.

Towards the end I probably should have just eased off, but it was more fun to keep going at a decent pace. The Viper is flattered a bit round here, with 1/2/3 gear only corners and nice straights. Shorter straights and faster corners will make it much tougher to use and I'm expecting Suzuka sector 1 to be tough going.

Nice result for the team, just hope Pete can sort out his crappy ADSL. Also I thought I should mention that Stewprovo is getting nice and fast, only 3/10's off Ginsters who's run up the front quite a lot. Nice work.
How TT got second in the Marcos I don't know, I'm 2 seconds a lap slower than him round this track in that car. Good luck next time out  8)

See ya at Suzuka
