Introduction
The Christmas Special race is going to be organised in a different way to the usual weekly events. Please read the following carefully.

Car Selection
Cars have to be reserved in advance of the race. The number of available cars is restricted by the actual number available in P&G. We do not want any duplication of cars in this event.

Car Groups
There are three groups of cars competing in one race. Therefore there will be an overall winner as well as a champion for each of the groups.

How to reserve your Car
Drivers who have already sent a registration request pm are now automatically eligible to select their car. Drivers who have not yet registered by pm for this event need to do so in order to select a car (your registration pm and car choice pm may be sent together after October 1st. See below).

You may wish to leave it until the day of the race before you register. This is fine but please appreciate that the later you leave it to register, the less the choice of available cars will be.

Reserving your car is easy. Study the list of cars available in the three groups. Choose up to a total of three cars. List your choices in order of preference and send the list by pm to Legzy & Wiltshire Tony.

Example: 1st,    Group 2 - Ford GT40 MkI
            2nd,    Group 1 - Ford GT40 MkI Gulf
             3rd,    Group 3 - Shelby Cobra 289 Coupe

We will try to reserve your first choice. However, if that is taken, we will reserve your second choice, and then your third. In the unlikely event that all three selections have already been assigned to other drivers we will contact you by pm immediately and you will have to re-apply.
You will be notified within 24hrs of your successful reservation and the appropriate driver slot in the group table will be filled out for you.
If you wish to select a particular car, where more than one is available, please include its number in your preference list, and we will see what we can do. Otherwise it will just be the next available.

Update: If you are unsure as to whether you will be able to make the race but would like to have the chance to choose some cars in case you find out later that you can attend, please read this.
Send us your three car selection list. We will keep it safe but not publish until you say that your definitely in. At that time we will then publish whatever car choice is still available. If two of the cars you choose get selected (before you confirm your attendance either way), we'll reserve the still free third option for you.
If you want to take advantage of this please mark your entry "Attendance to be confirmed".

Rules
We will not be able to accept car reservations in any other format than that described above.

Reservations will be accepted from 00:01 BST October 1st 2009. Any car reservation pm's not addressed to both Legzy and Wiltshire Tony will be trashed.

Registration and car reservation will be closed as soon as the qualifying session starts (18:15 GMT Wednesday 30th December).

Please ask any questions you may have about the Christmas Special by pm to Legzy and Wiltshire Tony. We will post any FAQ's here.

Gentlemen, start your engines... the server is up! 8) 8) 8)

Pleased to report that I've now managed a 4:05 ;D in the gulf lol. I found the extra time by moving down from the longest gear ratio & trying some different Tyres ::). Still not had time to do any wet practice :'(

Which tyres are the softest?

And there are a lot of graphical issues with headlights on. Can't we put the ingame time to the afternoon, it looks horrible with all the flickering, and I'm not the only on?

The WS104 and the R106's are both rated medium rear tyres. However the R106 is an all weather/wet tyre. The WS104 isn't.

Please try changing some of your graphics options because we won't be changing the times.

In game, if you go options>video you'll see a selection of items to adjust. I can usually run full for almost everything, but for these conditions I'll be reducing reflections, shadows, maybe other car detail all to medium. Try these in a quick offline race with 30 cars in the rain at 18:00 and it should give you a fair idea. Suggest you keep "draw" to very far.

I run everything maxed as FPS aren't the issue, it's just the bug from this trackconversion that gets flickering, what looks like shadows from the trees. I have ATI as well, a 4890.

PnG is about as stable as Iraq. Booted me out during qualifying and refused to let me back in. CTD every time it loaded Tim's car. Tried several reboots of PC and router, joined the wet server OK, tried joining with a different car, no luck. Grrrr. Just as well I prefer GTL.

Well done Tony and Legzy for organising this, should be a good one.

And a Happy New Year to all!

Thanks for the punt on lap 2 - unbelieveable :P

In the end it didn't matter because I discoed at Indeanapolis.

Lack of any significant time to practice screwed me on this one.  Apologies to Goldtop who I punted off under braking (if you can call it that) and then Tony for being in his way while waiting for Goldtop to rejoin.  Had a big off after that when someone's car froze in the middle of the track so I figured I'd call it a day as it wasn't going to get any better for me.

Sorry I couldn't do this one justice guys and well done for organising it, looked like a great field.

Cheers, Ross.

Yeah, I'm really sorry about that, if it makes you feel any better, your disco ended my race anyhow - but I probably shouldn't have even bothered to be honest.  Apologies for screwing it up for you.

Cheers, Ross.

Was absolutely gutted to go out whilst in 2nd place after an hour  :'(
Hadnt gone off or had any incidents upto that point and was just enjoying a good battle with Jose that saw us swapping places several times over a few laps.
In the blink of an eye as i approached the ford chicane right behind Jose, i must have missed my brake point by a hairs breath and the car appeared to just pick up speed and hurtle towards the apex. I narrowly missed clumping Jose and caught the catch fencing on the inside line. Guttingly for me it tore off my front right wheel and with the pits a tantalising 100m away i couldnt drag the GT40 off the grass  :'(
Really was hoping for a podium but that momentary lapse cost me dearly.

Was well happy to qually 3rd and enjoyed running a strong 2nd for that hour. I was just about to make my first pit stop ironically.

Great stuff, hope we can do this again sometime. Though maybe just make it 2 hours long  8)

Just 5 laps from the end and the inevitable happened. Keith's GT40 + Mulsanne Kink + Healey + 70+mph speed difference = first Healey in orbit. Absolutely gutted having put so much effort in to get that far.

Really struggled in qualifying, had no idea why until the first lap of the race when Legzy’s GT40 came past me about 20 mph faster. My brake was stuck on  >:(  I had to pull my brake towards me every time I was on a straight and ended up with cramp in my foot. Kept going as I had a chance to win but that went out the window when I came in for my stop.

I had expected to receive 150L of fuel as that was what I had selected in the setup screen and that’s what it said in my XD display thing. But it was set to 0L on the pit board and I was too busy to notice because I was having a little panic about whether or not to put wets on. Only realised just as I was pressing enter. Tried to get round again but ran out of fuel in the porsche curves.
  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Very lonely race for me, but for some reason I quite enjoyed it despite having no-one to race except myself. I really don't know why as I was never in a race with another car and this has to be one of the most boring tracks ever made (especially in that configuration with the full mulsanne on it). In a car that was only competitive with itself it was a test of mind over bladder. Bladder won. :) Second stop I had to take a leak and by the time I got back the super efficient Team Shark crew had already filled me up and stuck new tyres on! ;D

Then with about 20 minutes to go after Gizmo tried out Branson's new space travel holiday tours after meeting with "surprised it didn't happen earlier" doom at the hand of an evil Ford, I was on my own and promptly whacked it hard into a barrier. No probs, car damaged but driveable but I discovered a new kind of terror, the "perspex" fence and had to drive back up the track a bit to get out from behind it. Pitted for 95 seconds of repairs and then put in my best laps of the race to finish with a fastest lap on the last lap 2 seconds faster than I'd done ever before in that car.

I liked the weather and the sunset, but my god is that circuit boring.

Well done to all and organisers and a happy new year, see you in 2010.

Well that was an unexpected result, had hoped to be on the pod if I kept it clean, had not expected to win from pole
Some was steady pace when in some discomfort - eyes on stalks, body parts aching, and some was luck
Had thought about 1 stopping but I had not actually done 20 laps on a tank, so played safe with a two stop
could not believe that Keith and Colin were not stopping, I was slowly catching them both after my 2nd stop
but had a couple of offs that put me back a bit, was thinking, "even with a splash and dash I should be able to
pass them in the pits", but err they didn't pit... Caught and passed Colin while watching the canvas showing on his tyres
and then Keith left. Shame you connected with Dave, I caught someone there, and had to go on the grass as
someone pulled out to pass him, leaving me only vegetables to drive on (was not true, but seemed that way)
Had a scare when Ade spun and blocked the road just in front, I jusssstttttt stopped with only a tiny tap (5.6 secs repair)

Anyroadup, Agree track was a bit boring, but suited the 3 hr thing, I think I would have died of exhaustion if it
was a 3 hr at silverstone or similaar.

Top marks for all the organisation from Legzy and Tony, and Paul for doing the "timing board" :thumbup2:

p,s
I did what you said Gazzer, and got the pot for Team Pseudo, and Hal got 3rd on the pody ;D

Grats Matt but who the hell is Colin?  Didn’t see him.

Many thanks to Chris and Tony for organising this.  However, my wife says that once a year is enough.  I think we were talking about the race.

I didn’t find it boring but then in a GT40Mk2 just keeping all the wheels on is enough to occupy me.

As Malcolm says, I only did one stop and to be honest, with the bit of rain in each half of the race I could have done 21 laps on the tank full.

Guess that his tyres were in better nick than mine but to be honest, the wet track meant that I didn’t know if I was on foot or horseback.  We seemed to get a sunrise after the rain as well.  That was nearly a disaster as it hit me full in the face as I approached the Porsche Curves.

Had some good fun with Jose early on but I lost touch when we were lapping other cars.

Keith sneaked past and it took me a lap to figure how he had managed to pass me without being seen.  I didn’t have the name tags on so when I passed a stricken car and it appeared to want to re-pass me I didn’t think much of it.  But Keith had sneaked up behind me as I lapped the first car and I didn’t realise it was him behind me after that.

Pity we couldn’t do it on the circuit that the GT40s were built for without those poxy chicanes and the Mickey Mouse bit before it.

Great Fun.

Well done to Dan.  Great result for the Soggies.

Wow! Great race.

It had every thing. Sun, darkness, dry and wet.

Nice one for organising that gents. :)

Well done Matt, API and Ade. I am very happy with 3rd. ;D

I had a nice fight with MJ in the first 2 laps before I binned it.

Had thought about 1 stopping but I had not actually done 20 laps on a tank, so played safe with a two stop

Same here. I was not sure that I could do a one stopper. I think it may have been the way I drive. ;D I was also hoping that the front runners would all need to stop again towards the end. They did not.

I enjoyed the track and I thought that it was perfect for the length of the race.

Time to start organising another one for June with modern cars maybe. :whistling:

Congratulations Matt, you earned the win, great driving  :thumbup1:

I tried my best to keep a steady within-reach pace in case you had any incidents but it was me who had one instead  :'(

Its an odd race as like a few mentioned, your not involved in much on track fighting though i did enjoy a lengthy battle with a couple of the other GT40 runners. Buts its all about the endurance for this one and the varying light and weather conditions. Gutted i missed out on the full works.

Well done to other class winners too and big thanks to Legz and Tony for organising  8)

Thanks Dave,

I found the link and clicked on it but it says the web page cannot be found.  :(

EDIT
OK, Found it and installed it.  But I still screwed because my P&G installation wasn't set up to record verbose race report data.

Really good fun that and not as tiring as I'd though it would be although I was a bit stoned/wired after the race.

Qually conditions surprised me as it was the 1st time I had raced in proper daylight and it weird to be able to see the corners ;) Got a satisfying PB of 4.19 in the 427.

Didn't get the best of starts as Geoffers (I think) in front of me missed the lights but I have to say the 1st lap was very civilised and I didn't see any wild lunges. Ade, in the other 427, was ahead and I was aiming to stay with him as a decent benchmark. It was going well until lap 9 where I had an off on the last chicane but thought I could escape through what I thought was a flimsy fence. Nope, this fence was reinforced and it bust my steering. Luckily I could use this was in my 1st pitstop window and I could carry on.

From then it was pretty uneventful, which is good in endurance racing. By this point Ade was minutes in front but I only had one pitstop left and I was working my way back up through the field. After 15 laps on a set of tyres they suddenly seemed to let go and I barely made it in to the pits for my final stop in one piece. Did anybody else find that with their tyres?

Ade had to make a quick pitstop at the end and I was only 45secs behind but it wasn't enough. 9th overall and 2nd in class - very happy with that.

The rain was fun and made it interesting; the light switch effect of the sunshine after the last shower made me laugh :) Shame that Dave didn't make it; everytime I went past I was willing him on.

Anyway congrats to the podiums and thanks to Legzy and Tony for their hard work behind the scenes

Happy New Year, fellow PnG'ers!

I didn't have a great qually, and started well down the field as I've had no practice, being away with my family.

I spent the first few laps racing Bully & teamie Alex, until I stuffed it into a barrier at the esses, damaged the suspension but carried on anyway, losing time to both of them. But rather than stopping I decided to carry-on....

I stopped just before halfway after the car felt like it had lost all grip at the front, so decided to spent the 2 mins repairing the car.

I was soon in a groove belting out fast and consistent laps and could see I was catching Alex & McFids, until just before the final rain shower finished I belted a barrier and bent the suspension again  >:(

I also didn't put enough fuel in, so had to stop again for a final splash & dash.

Thanks for the race Tony & Legzy, that was fun, and was surprised I made it to the end in a GT40 although I was struggling with the tiredness over the last few laps, and with hindsight if I had repaired the damage earlier I may have got a better result...

Sorry I was absent on parade - I went down hill from mid afternoon, shivers and sick.  I just couldn't get warmed up ended up going to bed about 5 ish with extra blankets on top, then the sweats - felt terrible still not feeling to good - all that practice and no race.

Glad to see a good time was had by most of you - the dreaded gremlins striking for others.

As a point of interest, some time ago in early practice, I had to turn my shadows down from max as it was too realistic under the trees and I just couldn't see the corner markers.  I have a GTX 275 card.

With regrets

Bill

Very sorry to hear that Bill, you were missed.

Thanks Tony - I can't even say the brain (I think I was on another planet) was willing but the body was weak.

Thinks from Le Mans!

1.   I really most remember to do a pit stop during Qually so that I know where my pit stall is located.  I had to crawl down the pits at 40kph to make sure that I didn’t miss the little man.  I think that this was the main cause of my slow pit stop.  Keith seemed to gain about 20 seconds on me and at first I thought that he must have kept the same tyres on to gain that time.  Stalling the bloody engine when it was time to leave didn’t help either.

2.   Must have a look at which buttons I use for clutch and lights.  Lost count of the number of times that I dipped the clutch at full throttle trying to acknowledge a headlight signal from a car that I was about to lap.  Amazed the engine stayed in one piece.

3.   I don’t think that it was the state of my tyres that allowed Matt to catch and pass me at the end of the race.  It was more the state of my mind.  I was happy when the rain was lashing down.  It was when it stopped that I was in trouble.  I just didn’t know how hard I could push and didn’t have any experience to fall back on.   I had done some trial runs on accelerated fuel and tyre wear and at 80% rain I could do a complete race on one set of tyres.  If I tried to push it any further I was in trouble.  Difficult to get much practice on a slightly damp track with varying degrees of tyre wear.

4.   At the end of the race the tyre wearomiter was only showing about a 20% down on new.  I had done tests in the wet with tyres at 80% down on new and still kept it on the track.

5.   Anticipating my appalling pit stop performance I had decided, early on, that I would go for a one-stop strategy.  Hence all my so called “whinging” about the weather.  I was just trying to extract as much information as possible to confirm my strategy and did my tyre testing on that basis.

6.   In the heat off battle I had come to the conclusion that Keith had not changed his tyres and thus I pushed for all I was worth in the second half of the race, particularly when it started to rain again.  I reasoned that I needed to keep the pressure on.  This seemed to be working but I doubt it I would have had enough race left to catch him, even if it had stayed wet to the end.  I think that I had dropped the gap from 30s down to 20s by the time that he encountered Dave.  Perhaps I had him Worried.  LOL

Glad you surfaced ok Bill; I had a similar experience yesterday I think, either that or it was the DT's :)

No problem by the way Ross, just one of those things although the air was a little blue around here for a while. Why do you think I stayed clear of the GT40s ;)

Congrats to the finishers and the winners/podies.

So what's next then Tony/Legzy? You're keeping us all in suspense ;) Talking of which The Italian Job's on later and my kids have never seen it - time for some education :D

HNY all 8)

Well done Clive :)

Great to see that I managed 2 laps of about 6:30 & even one of 8:30!!! :o  Had to replace my suspension twice, of maybe it was three times :-\

Was a great race that though, I look forward to a similar challenge in the future some time.
