Anything less than 3L. So not the McLaren, BT19, Ferrari 312, Honda or the BRM P83, Lotus 43, Cooper or Eagle T1G.

Engine expired as soon as I went in 1st gear on the start.  ::)

Sorry to those behind who couldn't avoid me, I was barely rolling so I couldn't get out of the way. That Ferrari is not only a handful but unreliable too it seems.

No prob Hristo, not your fault.

What a ball aching night that was. All that faffing around with the servers and then I don't even get off the grid!!

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!!

qualified 6th with a 1:08.33 in that 10 minute practice, then at the start mr. McRae didn't move off the starting line. the rest i can't describe really, watch for yourself :P. i made a vid for some non gpl playing friends to laugh at:

I've never got to grips with the 66's but thought this Championship would force me to practice at them.

Thought what i had was a safe set up to allow me to lap and not crash, but as soon as i switched on GPL before Qually, the car was literally all over the place.
Did you the usual thing of panicing and changing everything.. and it got worse.

Found an old basic setup that i had at the last minute and went into qualifying. Set a PB and was 8th before we swapped servers. On the other server i didn't really get into the groove and qualified lower down, but not at the back, which i expected, so was pretty happy.

Zig Zagged where possible round the pile up at the start, and started to put a few decent laps in whilst passing the odd spinner.

Attempted to make a pass on a fellow Ferrari on the back straight and 'clipped' (ploughed into) a hay bail. When the car eventually landed, i hadn't a clue where i was. Managed to get back onto the track, but GPL then black flagged me for reversing on the track. I hadn't affected anyones race to my knowledge, so carried on. However, i was being shown the Black Flag, had no info on the pit board and Pribluda was refusing to show me as i was Disqualified. As a consequence i had no idea who to let past, who to try and overtake for position..etc. Felt uncomfortable driving blind with no information and the possibility of spoiling someones race, but luckily my engine blew after two more laps giving me a more satisfactory retirement reason.

Despite the race only lasting 6 or 7 laps for me, i actually quite enjoyed it as i thought i'd struggle to get the car round, let alone maintain a pace. It actually went better than expected!  :)

To whoever caused the start-line melée... THANK YOU!!!! I've not had so much fun laughing and avoiding the chaos. I ended up 4th after that and couldn't stop sniggering the first lap! After cocking up the last corner with a bad gear change, I let evilclive through, tried to follow him, and fell off of my own accord. After *possibly* lag-tapping Dave Randall at the Loop, he made his way off the grounds, and after about half-distance I had a lapse in concentration. I was rather tired, and forgot that the back straight isn't exactly straight. I didn't turn for the kink in it. Sky grass sky grass 4 wheels attached no go.

1st race of the season could not have started much worse.  Disappointed with qualifying time and not to make the 1:07's which I'd managed in off line practice.  Ended up about 8th on the grid so was one of the many taking part in the start line slalom, took to the grass and slewed sideways enough to lose some more places.  Regained with two Ferraris ahead which I managed to pass after a few laps, though slightly tagged one in the process at the end of the back straight, when his defensive line caught me out under braking.  Finally had a chance to settle in to my pace when a regaining Jethro come in to the equation.  Was mindful of Hristos warning of being Jethro'd  ;) but had a good battle for a few laps until we were side by side going in to the loop and his tankslapper sent me into the always-welcoming hay bales, where the Brabham sat teetering on the edge and I had to think of a plan..  The possibility of release was tantalsing enough to spend a few minutes going back and forth to free the car and tenacity evenually paid off and I was free!    Regained but the climax immediately decided it had had enough and went pop  ::)

Can only get better..

edit: seemed like Hristo blew his engine at the start, it doesn't show untill someone else hits him, but that's lag i guess?

Bah. Managed to avoid all the mayhem at the start (one benefit of starting so far back I guess :D) but then after about 4 or 5 laps my engine started belching black smoke & that was that. Oh well - enjoyed it while it lasted & at least I managed to save my PB from the first server!

Sorry about the server problems tonight gents.  Start of the season teething troubles.  We must have made a typo in the Boss password the first time we started UKGPL6 and we couldn't shut it down.  Don't know why the lag was bad on UKGPL4.  We used it for the Graduates Round 1 and the Interleague praccy at Zandvoort with no noticable problems.

Anyway as far as the race went I was far enough back on the grid to avoid the start line melee but I was still thinking about the server issues about 3 laps later when I lost concentration and ploughed into the barrier at the Esses.  Race over :(

Wondered who that was - couldn't for the life of me work out why someone would crash into the haybales, loose the requisit wheel, and still just sit there!  ;D

Ruud, On my replay you can clearly see Hristo's engine pop as the flag drops  :)
That was probably the only thing stopping me from giving Jethro an earfull - Although why he couldn't have gone to the outside I don't know  ::)

Sorry to those behind who couldn't avoid me, I was barely rolling so I couldn't get out of the way. That Ferrari is not only a handful but unreliable too it seems.

It wasn't me! I never touched him...I was miles away and never went near his car in the pits either!! ...except when I spilt that white powder, but that was just an accident. ::)

Grats to Gerard ( where has he been hiding until now??!!) and Fulvio.

I just avoided contact with the Hairdressers Ariel Display Team at the start by standing on the brakes, only to see Jethro barrel through the only gap left and clear off up through the esses!!

I tip toed through the carnage waiting to be collected from behind and emerged unscathed and with no idea what position I was in.

After lap 1 prib updated and confirmed that I was in about 7th spot and was closing down on Jethro's BRM :o)

Caught and passed Jethro without too much drama and now had a fat Brabham with Mike Beattie up ahead ( the Brabham was fat, not Mike! as far as I know anyway).
Once again I found catching Mike simple enough and was surprised to be able to draft past him in my little car  ::). But that seemed to have touched a raw nerve because Mike's pace increased and he just would not go away!!
We had a great dice for about 20 laps I think, and swapped places a couple of times, but neither of us was able to break the tow and pull away. Meanwhile Gerard and Fulvio were away in the top two spots and setting a cracking pace. Occassionaly I caught a glimpse of Fulvio but was never anywhere near getting on terms with him..much too concerned with Mike and his big Brabham!!

We were getting down to about 10 laps to go I think, and Mike had sneaked ahead of me when we came upon a Burtmobile who needed lapping, approaching Big Bend. Being a chicken at heart I dropped back an extra 50 mtrs ..just in case.. and to give me a better view and pick my passing spot.
Mike followed Burt into BB and on the exit, just when you thought everything was going to be ok they tangled and attempted to form a wall to wall road block!! I dived into the grass ditch on the outside and bounced around just about keeping the nose heading in the right direction and regained the tarmac in 4th gear doing about 5kph.
Rapid downshifts and a sluggish getaway were sure to allow Mike, who I thought had at least stayed on the grey stuff , to regain his position. But as I entered the S/F straight there was still no sight ( or sound) of Mike's Brab and prib showed that I was pulling several seconds of gap.

From then on it was a case of nursing the little 2 litre screambox to the flag in 3rd position, with Mike closing steadily, but at a rate that I figured would not be quite fast enough..provided i made no mistakes.

There were a few wobbly moments but made it to the flag just as Mike exited the final turn. Without the "incident" I have no idea how we would have resolved our dice...it could have got very tense in the final few laps.

I didn't go to the outside because there were cars blocking the track and I went for a gap that was there.

Nice event for me.
On the "second" qualifying, i have been towed, so i quickly did a good lap. That allowed me to do a few laps with the car tuned for the race.
For the race, i managed a good start, and i did not suffer from the mayhem. Fulvio put pressure on me, and if i remember, i had to a 1.18.1 lap on the 4th or 5th lap without draft to keep him behind.
Then he did a mistake, and lost the tow. I could then manage my advance, but i had to run on 1.18 all the time not to allow him to take my draft again. I had no choice but driving fast enough, and safe.

The fiat engine lasted hopefully, i think because i didn't make it scream due to the tall gearing i choose for the race.

I would like to thank the drivers i lapped for their fairplay letting me pass.

It is my first season at ukgpl, but i wasn't hiding before!
Last year i ran the GPL cups. A French championship (i'm French) running 100% long GPs. Too bad the challenge was so difficult, people left it and now, it doesn't exists anymore. This is how i do your championship, i find the historic champ with handicap a good idea.

So thank you for this race and see you soon!

I've finally finished a Championship race at The Glen

In the first qually session I had opted for the BRM, but just couldn't get it handling to my liking, so when that was aborted I opted for the 2.7 Brabham, which I knew was a smoother package.

For the second race in a row, the front of the grid removed a large part of themselves in the opening lap, and I was suddenly 3rd behind the two Ferraris, with Jethro 5 secs behind. I knew I didn't have the pace to catch Fulvio and Gerard, so I settled into a comfortable pace, to try and ensure a finish.

I saw Evil was now behind and catching, and when he got the tow onto the straight, I lifted to ensure he got a clean pass. My idea being that I knew he was a safe pair of heels to follow, I was happy enough with 4th, but would tag along behind him to see if he could drag us up to the leaders.

However, it soon became apparent, that his pace and mine were reasonably similar, and he was getting a bit lurid in some of the turns. Also he wasn't closing in on Fulvio so he was failing in that part of my "deal"  ::)  So I decided it might be better being in front as opposed to behind the Accident :)

Hence we had a great dice, which was finally stopped when we came upon Burtoner. I thought that he might back off and let us by on the Back Straight, but he kept the shoe in and we caught him entering Big Bend. Unfortunately he got a big sideways moment on the exit and I clipped him, spinning us both. Just  as I thought I had a clear way through we touched again and I went grass tracking, losing the bucket of time to Clive. A racing incident from my view and all part of racing, so no moans here.

Had fun chasing Evil, but needed another 2 laps

Grats to the Lead Duo a great oerfirmance
