Post by: vosblod on September 14, 2009, 10:41:47 AM +0100
Following Lorenzo (Works) and Al H's (Privateers) triumphs in the first race it's on to Laguna Seca 67. Registration will be open all season for any new joiners. Please bear in mind there are a mixture of driver abilities and no second chances with PRO.

Server = ukgpl.4 (see note below)
IP address = 84.64.42.154 (tbc)
Race date = 20-09-2009
Time = 21:00 UK time (20.00 GMT)
Track = Laguna Seca 67
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Race length = 50 minutes (47 laps)

Track downloadable from here http://dixierunners.speedgeezers.net/laguna67/ (http://dixierunners.speedgeezers.net/laguna67/)
Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 p.m (UK London Time = BST = GMT + 1h).

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday).
We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the new token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=225;theme=6). Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

Laguna Seca Raceway is a paved road racing track used for both car and motorcycle racing, near Monterey, California.
The earliest development of the local area occurred in 1867 with the founding of the nearby Laguna Seca Ranch. The track was built in 1957 on part of the US Army's Fort Ord after the nearby Pebble Beach Road Races were abandoned for being too dangerous. The famous Turn 8 and 8A combination, popularly referred to as the Corkscrew, is considered one of the motorsport world's most challenging turns, due to the drop in elevation as well as its blind crest and apex on the uphill approach.
The track has undergone significant changes over the decades and is now known as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Those white polos are evil, and the less said about braking into the Corkscrew the better...

I was rubbish at the modern version of this track in IndyCar racing (remember that?), driving it in wingless cars and horrors looking to claim you at every turn is even more hair-raising. :o

I presume the passing strategy is, "Hope the guy in front of you crashes"?? ;)

Laguna will be a tough one.
The polos, the bridge, the corkscrew & the turn into the straight are all car wreckers. Even the straight has a nasty kink in it so you have to concentrate the whole time.
40 plus laps on Pro - whoever crosses the finish line will have earned their points. Apparently I do this for FUN!

Extra strong mint maybe? ;)

b)  Brakes are for wimps

I did check if I could launch myself off the top off the Corkscrew corner at max speed and magically land below. Sadly no go :(

c)  Have some sympathy for those in white whales

That's what I'm currently driving. :P

d)  there is no "hope" about it  ;D ::)

That's true, attrition is the name of the game here!

Yes, having had a short outing in the Fun Race last night, it looks like it could be another "early bath" on Sunday !!

I love Laguna, for all the reasons mentioned, it's such a challenge. I'm still not sure of attendance on Sunday though, due to a long distance "dad's taxi" job!!

Funky little track. I'm well familiar with the modern one (via Gran Turismo) but the old '67 version is sweet. Reminds me very much of Zandvoort but with bigger gradients. Lovely.

Anyone else notice the upside-down car behind the infield fence on the straight leading to the last corner?

Bloody typical. Disconnected  :censored:. Qualified well enough but everyone was warping about a bit, so I guess my internet was playing games again, but it seemed to smooth out slightly for a short while until everyone dissapeared. Apologies to those that may have been affected by my car. The new ISP can not come soon enough!

:(
:( :(
:( :( :(

Got a reasonable enough start, survived the first 6 laps. Then got a bit wobbly into the turn at the bottom of the hill, hit the barrier and lost a wheel.

Game over. Not much fun to be honest as I felt I had a decent enough setup to at least finish :(

Oh well, good luck to whoever wins. Early shower for me.

Fulvio, apologies for tagging you, I wasn't even going for the pass, but you really seemed to be very slow round that turn. Sorry if it ended your race.

Got 1 stunner lap in qually, which saw me 4th on the grid. Ran third after Fulvio went out, but spun on T3 and made a pigs ear of rejoining and lost 3 places. Got by JR and then Jethro, but popped the engine.

Had a comfortable pace, hmmm the 67s just pee me off at times

qualified 9th with 1m08.880s, start was perfect, no pileup unlike expected.

i just wasn't comfy enough with the track or focussed enough, didn't practice enough i guess. i went off every so often, then 3 laps before the end my camshaft broke when i was about to have a look at jethro's brm in 5th spot :).

I wondered what happened to you Mike, you'd only just got past me then pulled right off circuit as I was in your slipstream! Well done on the quick reactions. :)

I'd qualified 8th with a last gasp lap on low fuel and cold-ish tyres that put me 2nd-best BRM on the grid. I was very confident about the race setup as I'd had fun with it in practice. The start was good and clean, and nobody hit anybody, which was also good. After Fulvio had a tap at the last corner and Sam was despatched by the cybergods, I was 4th and hoping to stay there. Through a couple little mistakes and Hristo and Mike falling off the road, I'd wound up 5th behind John and Doni. evilclive powered past after I made a cockup at T3 and I then promptly re-passed him when Lorenzo lapped us both. After John did a "Hammy", as he so correctly put it, I ended up 4th in the results, which was about where I was aiming to be. Had Lorenzo fallen off the road and I'd stayed ahead of John, I might have had a sniff, just a sniff, of victory in the BRM, but not to be and I'm chuffed to survive 46 laps. Even with the awesomely epic save at T3. Now where's that replay? ;D

We don't know.  Something odd has happened, I've asked Giz to have a look at it.

I got pole as expected, though Lorenzo was very close and in the race where I had to save fuel it was going to be tough.

I had a good start, though overreved quite a lot to do it, then led ahead of Lorenzo who was very quick in the middle of the lap and the last few corners too, but he couldn't pass me as long as I kept a good line.

That went on and on for nearly 20 laps I think, then we came to lap someone and while returning to the ideal line I touched the outside dirt slightly and missed my turning point for T2, the fast left hander.

This set me off line on the exit but I quickly returned back on the track, but not before Lorenzo lined up with me going into the braking zone for the right hander under the bridge.

I left him enough room and kept the outside line, but he simply hit me, which sent me into the wall and ripped my wheel off. Thanks a lot...

Drank too much, crashed too much, practiced too little...
Stopped enjoying myself having already lost concentration on about lap 10. Ended up just pulling off as it was no fun anymore  :(

I had a good feeling about the track but due to some traffic i couldn't get a lap close to my pb in qualifying, and started from 2nd position...
The start was good and was able to keep my position, i followed Hristo for about 20 laps trying to pass him, but the track is very tight and i knew only a mistake by him could have given me the lead...
This happend after we lapped a Brm i think, Hristo went outside the track, then he rejoined while i was overtaking him and i went off to avoid him.....i did 2 spins at 15feet above the ground and "simply" hit Hristo ....my car wasn't damaged and was able to complete and win the race...

Cheers

Lorenzo

Could you submit any incident reports by close of play Friday 25 September.

Man I hated to miss this one. Never a dull turn. Grats to Lorenzo, Kruger and Doni.

Once the time changes over here and all the leaves are brown.....I'll be joining more frequently.

Yesterday was just too nice of a late summer day to deny the kid some time at the skate park.

Unfortunately, I'll be absent for the next 2 events but after that, I'll be back.....

Yes that was me.  I was a bit worried that I'd got in your way but I don't think I did.  You had to alter your line which ultimately caused you to run wide but lapping backmarkers is part of racing (well it is when I'm in the works race, I thought I was privateer material :()

This set me off line on the exit but I quickly returned back on the track, but not before Lorenzo lined up with me going into the braking zone for the right hander under the bridge.
Yes saw that, I saw cars flying and thought "oh dear" (or something similar)

I checked the replay to see if I had caused the incident.  I think I'm in the clear.  You need to submit an incident report but Lorenzo lost it on the entry to the corner trying to avoid you as you rejoined.  He was a passenger after that and wasn't in control when contact was made.  Not trying to judge - it is the divisional moderator's job to do that - I'm just stating what I saw.

I had all the luck and then some. Rode the top of the barrier backwards and came out fine on the other side!

Sry for the late answer Mike, not bad feeling at all. Yesterday morning I had a terrible new, a good friend and a team mate at Team7 died due a sudden heart attack. I'm still deeply sorry and didn't think to this race.
At the moment of our contact I was really disappointed cause I was taking easy and I was happy for my 3rd place on a track that I love. Your tap wasn't the cause of my retirement. To get out of way of the following cars I put in reverse and got stuck on the concrete tires. I'm sorry to have chat but I was hoping someone had given me a tap to free me. Then in the concitation I hit Esc-Enter with bad words coming out of my mouth towards myself...
It was better than write wrong conclusions on forum, wasn't it ;)
