Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=227)
(5) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(6) Remember that P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function, but our gentleman's agreement is that everyone will stick to a speed limit for the pit-lane of 40mph/60kph.

Only cars of token values between 0 & 9 tokens will be used at this event (see list above for quick ref).

Clubmans & Tokens quick guide (see bottom for full details)
  • All drivers get a Tokens budget for the season
  • The faster the driver, the less Tokens they get
  • The better the car, the higher it's Tokens cost is to use in a race
  • If you do not attend the race, you will lose a predetermined individual quantity of your Tokens (equal to races "Suggested Token Spend")
  • Trust me, you do not want to run out of Tokens before the final race! :death:

Post by: Legzy on October 22, 2009, 12:03:35 PM +0100
EXTRA INFO:(Repeated)  I'm sure you've noticed I've made a bit of a tweak to the system. I've done this because I want to encourage people to take the chance to drive the different levels of fantastic cars that PnG has to offer.

I could be wrong, but it seemed like we were all almost afraid to splash out on anything more lavish then an Elan (13 tokens)!!! For some of the faster guys it's very hard to splash out as they obviously have smaller budgets, while maybe some of the guys with bigger budgets didn't want to splash out & find themselves up front on their own :-\. So I have worked out some affordable 'token ranges' for each of the final four races of this test/fun season:

Race 4) Edmonton     = 7 to 16 Token cars
Race 5) Watkins Glen = 12 to 20 Token cars
Race 6) Mid-America = 0 to 9 Token cars
Race 7) Riverside       = 3 to 12 Token cars

Some drivers may immediately be concerned that they "can't afford a car for the Watkins tokens range"... don't worry, you can .
To go with the 'token ranges', I have also worked out a "Suggested Token Spend" for each person, for each race. You don't have to stick to your "Suggested Token Spend", but if you're close to it, you should be about on pace with most other people (= improved close racing) & finish the season on budget ;).

Cheers
Legzy

p.s. Please remember that you get nothing for finishing the season with tokens to spare, but you will suffer badly if you spend more then your budget  :gun_bandana: ;)

Is this a fantasy track? I dont think I've come across it before. I originally thought it was Mid Ohio.

It dont half eat my left front tyre on the Volumetrico. Although I think that could be an XD problem.

This is what the readme says
"The Mid America Motorplex is a relatively new club circuit located in Pacific Junction,
Iowa that was designed by world-renowned track designer Alan Wilson.
It is a driver friendly (few things to hit), yet challenging course that took me many laps to
get a good handle on.
The track is 2.23 miles long with 15 turns (increasing and decreasing radiuses),
long straights, many passing zones, a very challenging chicane near the pit entrance,
and a flat out kink."

Very interesting circuit - some of the turns feel like they will never end.

Anyone of the 'quickies' have a target time I can judge myself against.  After a few laps to learn the circuit I managed a 1:47.77 in the Cobra roadster

You must mean me Ligel? ;)

I managed a 1:46 in the 'Mustang ATCC' which would use up my one spare token :-\.

I started with the 'Z06' & it felt better then I expected it too, I'll give it another whirl when I've tried a couple more cars.
I couldn't get on with the 'Falcon Weslake' at all... didn't seem to turn at all ???

hi Ligel/all,

i had a quick drive on this track... here are my times>
GT350R SCCA = 1:46:00
Corvette L76 = 1:48.22

nice safe track to drive...large run off areas :)
My setups are not that great either, AT LEAST another 1s should be found from the above times.

hi, Hopefully I will be able to race in this event. I'm not sure how many tokens I will able to use - but i guess the L76 Corvette should be OK. Looking at the tokens list…..the thing that impresses me is the number of drivers – where did they all come from?!

I will keep an eye out for others on the simracing PnG server during this weekend - and try to get on  :)

update: i may not racing this event as drivers will be racing for points to help their championship position's. Then again, if they are free spaces on the server towards the end of quali - i may just stick around for the race.

If you can do that, that would be spot on 8)
I've given you a 'provisional' suggested spend of 6 Tokens for this race (which should leave you about 9 Tokens for the final race), but feel free to spend a token or two more or less ;)

So far, from what I've done/seen on the server... I think people will be racing at laptimes around 1:44 to 1:45 :-\

I will be with the little blue ant, hope not to be trampled :).
From what I see by your laptimes, I'm not bad at the moment with the Alpine... But I don't trust in Legzy's pre-tactical laptimes lolllllll :)

I hope sincerly to race with you tomorrow! Cu :)

Well that was great in parts, painfull in others
Had trouble with brake bias all practice, thought it was about right, but after a few laps the back was all over
if I braked hard, seemed to rememember that brake bias was [ and ] so drove with keys on lap trying to
keep up a good pace, got in Manteos' way with my variable braking, he spun once to avoid me, so
after a while I pulled over to let him past, and see if I could change brakes, maybe did not sure
but as I came onto the S/F straight I put the keyboard back on top of the PC only to press " + "
apparently this jumps you into the car in front  :o had no idea what I had pressed as the PC is above
head height, so driving blind, turned slightly right and braked.... when I finally figured out what had happened
I was sat on the grass in 13th. got going again, had some fun chasing but got stuck behind Kobayashi in a
yank tank went off with dodgy brakes and no room to maneouver, finally passed, and almost got past a jag
in the final section, but he lost it a bit, and had to lift to avoid, ah well, mostly a fun one.
Great track for this league, well done chaps.

Didn't think it was going to be that good but oh boy I was really wrong about that. Hat's off to you Chris, that was almost the close racing nirvana you've been seeking, racing gold mate, racing gold.

Sorry to the folk I rubbed, tapped and variously abused but I'm not used to company and you were all perfect gentlemen and carried on regardless. If you feel a telling off is in order please don't hold back. In my defence I'll just say that my idea off close racing is seeing the next car in front outlined on the horizon.

Witnessed some really pleasing driving and Lazlow giving back the lead to Pribeiro really summed up for me the very essence of what we strive for in SROUK.

great fun that was  :)

Didnt expect anything results wise as only downloaded the track at 8.10pm ! and had never done a lap here before and ive just spent a week on a beach in paradise  ;)

Took the Transam mustang as didnt have any time to try out another car. It felt okay but a real barge in the tighter corners.

Race was a real battle, never got higher than 16th but was stuck in a position changing fight with about 5 cars for most of the race. Got tapped around a couple of times by over enthusiastic Alpine drivers but otherwise good clean fun. I also boinked Ligel twice, first one my fault, 2nd he appeared to almost stop mid track well before the next set of corners and i thumped him up the jacksy hard  :o but sorry anyway. Fell off twice costing me places..almost as much time lost as being stuck behind Poodle for half a lap tonight  how slow was that car in the corners ?!!

Great track, we must use that again, it seemed to allow for plenty of overtaking and side slides. 8)

Another great mix of cars/track tonight and some excellent hard fought racing :)

Felt quietly confident about the race as the 4 speed E-Type felt great round here; just the right ratios as opposed to the 5 speed which for me seemed to be inbetween all the time. Had it handling well and made few mistakes....until the lights went out of course :wetfish:

Had some close battles with Matt, Manteos and Tim all in different cars and all stronger/weaker in different parts of the track which made it really enjoyable. Might have sneaked a couple more places had it not been for my grass cutting excursions, but happy to finish top 10.

Congrats to pody and bring on Riverside!

I enjoyed that!  ;D

The first few laps were hectic, with some bumps and nudges, lost a few places... but made good use of the Cobra's grunt to get the places back.

Spent most of the race trying to chase Ade down, but I just couldn't catch him and with Goldtop breathing down my neck which made it interesting at the end when trying to lap 4 cars that were racin' hard, but got safely through!

You gave me a scare after one of your wild excursions! But you just got the car back just as I passed! Phew  :o

Nice track Legzy, I thought the track would be dull but was fun & challenging

What a shame... after the 3rd or the 4th tap I give this evening, at the last corner of the last lap I decided to throw my self into the grass to cut the finish line... but for the game I didn't pass the finish line, and then the result is a last place...
I was a bit angry beacause it was too difficult to fight with such a different car, and even if I was faster on pace, Jose kept me behind him for the last 6-7 laps, giving me more than a second on the straight, and remainig blocked on the best driving line. I had to try something dangerous to overtake him in the first part of the track, because I knew that I had to put a margin of more than 1 second to avoid to be passed again on the straight, but there were no chances due to the "extreme defense" of Jose.
Anyway I had some good fight with someone of you before to arrive to Jose, and even the duel with Goldtop and Matt Rowe was very interesting but I had the same troubles as the battle with Jose. Once you get passed with the Alpine, you are dead in this circuit  :death:... I had to wait their mistakes to overcome both drivers. And then I arrived early to Jose, but you already know this story :)
Finally, what can I say...I'm an idiot! I was a bit nervous, and I excuse with Jose for the 2 tap and Goldtop for another tap, but that was the only way to have some chances of a better result with such a different car. Anyway the least i could do was to wait you every time I made a mistake, and I hope that was fair enough for you :).
See you for the last battle with a great head on head between Lele and Lalzow (same tokens and same points  :fencing: :fencing:...unbelievable), but with a richer driver as Legzy, and another Monster driver as Paul, that will surely be ready to take advantage of any mistakes of the 2 contenders! Great stuff!
Get ready for the final round!
CU :)

Fantastic evenings racing - probably my best since PnG started.  Spent most of my time battling away with MJ and Poodle (who I'd normally only see when they lap me) and yes there were a few taps but that's racing in close company.  Tend to agree with MJ in that a couple of the Alpine drivers were a tad aggressive at time, but I guess that's youth.  Anyway I have no complaint and as said earlier I had a fantastic 22 laps.

Congratulations to the podium and heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to a great night.

To Legzy and Tony: I have said it before "You are doing a great job running the show" I raise my hat to you.

Why I can't find more than an hours practice time in 2 weeks is really starting to grate!  :'(
Quickly tried the Stang but was a bit slow, jumped in the z06 and was immediately quicker so tried to fine tune that.
Qualified 18th but made up loads of places at the start.
At one point there was 5 of us in a close battle round corner after corner!
That was good fun!
After that, my lack of pace and tyre wear saw me go backwards  :'(
Nothing I could do about it!

Obviously a good race for most and I did have some close racing at the start so no complaints!
Lack of practice always equals lack of race enjoyment!
How many times I have to learn that same old lesson, I don't know!

Thanks all

M.

Yes, that was a close one Tim - I just managed to skew it at the wrong time. Send me the laundry bill :D

No problem Manteos. I was keeping it tight into the corners so it was always going to be difficult to pass.

It is a joy and brilliant, these different car power/handle/physics races. Just like the 60's and 70's spirit.
Those drivers in those ages must had lots of fun undoubtedly.  :D

My car choice was a bit a shot in the dark. My first races strategy was sparing Tokens, now I can spend
a bit and it reflects the final results. It's fun because after 4 races I was in 20th and now I jumped to 9th.

Thank you master Legzy and master Tony. Both GTL and P&G has been very enjoyable.

No time to practice (dinner time as usual, can we start a bit later next seasons, pleeeeeeeease?)  ;D

After 3 qualifying laps I got a decent 6th place, which gave me confidence to achieve first corner
a few places ahead due to Cobra's power. It went well as I was in 2nd after 1st corner.
In fact, Lazlow allowed me to reach that place without fighting.
From there, I was following Tibernius and defending from Lazlow and Jose's Ferrari.
Intense battle with all. A few minutes later Tibs went wide and we passed him.
I'm not sure, but I guess Lazlow and me were in hard fight for almost 30 minutes of superb fun.
Ahhhhh...always with huge fairplay. And I must take my hat off to Lazlow when I spun, when I lapped
a backmarker. Lazlow wait for me and gave me back the race lead!  :notworthy:
Before finish I gave Lazlow the same kindness, I do believe you deserved the win mate. Well done!

Gentleman and big fairplay spirit, as has always been at SROUK.  :thumbup1:

Congrats Lazlow and Tibernius for the pole and 3rd place.  ;)

Cheers

We are unhappy about swear words (albeit disguised) being typed using the games chat facility during a race (if you have a problem, use the incident report system after race) & we are acting on it.
SROUK will not tolerate any such decline in our usual high standards, of which you should all be aware.

On a happier note :) :

I jumped in the Mustang TransAM (I recommend this car to anyone for 'a tank you can drive') & qualified pretty well (14th).
"Used the force" to gain myself a handful of places & was hanging off the back of Goldtop in 9th for a couple of laps before I managed to put a couple of wheels on the outside kerb as I drifted quite a bit a lot wide & spun her & recovered the 360 immediately (in a dukes of hazard type style maneuver)... I was immediately swallowed up by the close knit chasing pack of Keith, Tim, API & Paul (all of us in a different car to the others) & we went at it for a couple of laps ti it was just Paul & I. Well I used every ounce of muscle the Stang had & blocked where I could, but with each passing lap Paul would get closer & closer to getting ahead & then when he did manage it, he had to fend me off for a couple more laps before I couldn't sustain it any longer  :sweatdrop:

Had a couple of laps to rest & recover myself & then Matt started catching me at a couple of seconds a lap & we had a few good laps together with me on maximum defence mode  which allowed McFids to catch up & join the party too ;D What a great finish to the race it was as in turn they both slipped past me before the finish line. Great racing all.

Congrats to Lazlow on the win, PR for being a true gent & everyone for the variety of cars on the grid.

Do you know what... I thought the last race (at Watkins) was brilliant & would be hard to beat, but Mid-America has done it. For me this was our best race to date in PnG land 8). Can't wait for the Riverside finale.

Using extreme skill and race craft  ;)  (honest)  I probably had the best start of anyone, managing to blast my way up to 10th just before the end of the first lap.
All systems where go…the car was feeling good with the extra fuel, and 11th /12th was a good place to be in my L76.  Nothing went wrong as such…but lap after lap the under steer become increasing bad….it just wasn’t much fun to drive either  :(  every corner was becoming an issue. I tried to hold on the my postions…..so hard to defend with a car so slow in corners. Mann, i REALLY wanted to beat Ligel too > who had been in my mirrors for a many laps…..but could I hold on. NO!  I blame the L76….!    ::)
I hope I have enough tokens for a GT350R in the next race.

grats to the top three.

Sounds like the last few races which had close knit car groups have been enjoyed far more than the earlier races where you could use a car from the whole field!

I think that would support my theory that the less cars you use, the closer the racing becomes. Sounds obvious I suppose but that's why single spec races are generally enjoyed.
What Legzy is trying to do is maintain the closeness whilst increasing the car pool. In time this will be an easier juggle to pull off as the last couple of events show.

I'd been looking forward to getting back to racing after a project crunch period at work so it was great to be in this excellent race.

Qualified in a lowly 17th in a my E-type but clawed my way up to finish in a very, very close 10th. Brilliant wheel to wheel racing throughout especially with Legzy and Matt for a barnstorming finish :)

Thanks all.

Agree with all the previous comments, this race was a cracker. I've never had so much fun finishing 13th :D

Made a mess of lap1, braking to late for double right half way around the lap & taking to the grass. Then had great fun working my way up the field until I bumped Mcfids into a spin at the last turn, sorry Mcfids. Waited for him to repass & had to do all the overtaking again. Just failed to catch the Legzy/Mcfids/Matt battle at the end. But all great fun, especially the long snakes of cars circulating in midfield all looking for an overtaking opportunity  :thumbup1:

Congrats to the podium & three cheers for Legzy & Tony  :notworthy:

Sorry to disagree, but I don't think the token limits had that much to do with it. The big difference was the tracks, as the first 3 were quite unusual - either favouring big power or agility. Since the token values were made based on normal tracks they didn't work, and only a handful of cars worked well for their value. The last 3 races have been more representative of typical tracks, with a mix of power and handling needed, so the range of competitive cars was much greater. Go look at the results anyway - the vast bulk of the cars in the first 3 were within the same 9 point spread as the recent races, and even when given a bigger spread nobody went below 3 at mid america.

Appologies to anyone I put off if I had inadvertantly hit "Ctrl C" while I was desperately trying to get back
into my own car while parked in the grass! I was trying every key except "Esc" to try to get back.
Please read my previous post if you are 1: Interested, and 2: don't know what I'm talking about  :)

Having watched the replay, I must appologise to Ade who was probably wondering what I was doing
drifting off the track while slowing down  :o

Had a fun race having had no chance to practice until race day. I knew the alpine was strong, but it is boring to drive and would limit my options at riverside. The GTA was a tad cheaper and still seemed quickish, so went with that. Got a good start and passed several cars in he first few corners, but then got pushed onto the grass at T4 and lost them all  ::) I then ended up in the thick of the midfield melee, which was great fun while it lasted. Had a good battle with Keith for a bit, and once past it was then Legzy's rather quicker transam I had to beat. We had several great laps with the lead swapping places only for his monster to come roaring past into T1. In the end I made it stick earlier in the lap and he was too far back come the straight to respond - excellent fun   After that I was battling understeer in the alfa, so the only places I made were due to people falling off. 9th was about right for me there considering the lack of prep, but it leaves Lele and Lazlow as clear favourites for the championship. Riverside will be interesting  :)

Just wanted to add my voice to the ...
'the last 3 token races have been excellent'

I have no idea if as Paul says it is down to more even tracks ? but would like to think it reflects the effort the guys, Legz and Tony have been putting in. If this continues then I will be voting for the system we have been running for the last 3 races.
If that means Season 2 tracks are picked to be more even then even better!
Let's all remember this is the trial season 1 ! We have had ups and downs but I think we seem to be hitting the mark of late.
Encouraging for the future.

M.
