Title: GTL- Latest Lobby Issues - Sept 09
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on September 26, 2009, 03:09:41 PM +0100
GTL

You will doubtless be aware that our ability to run GTL races has been severely hampered by lobby connection issues.

As we intend to continue our GTL leagues, we are proposing the use of lobby avoidance software/fixes.

One fix that has been used in the past can be found here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6553.msg113245#msg113245)

This is called the Antideco fix and requires a self executing file download. The result of installing this software is a new desktop icon which you use in place of the normal GTL icon.
If you have followed the link above you may be left with the impression that it’s very complicated and prone to causing many errors. IMO this isn’t the case. It’s actually very easy to setup and use. And problems are quite rare occurrences. It looks complicated because we have shown all known problems that may occur and their fixes.

Also available now is an alternative fix. You will need to download this (http://www.humyo.com/F/9349539-1469477767) and place it in your GTL folder. That's it!

This fix actually uses the Gamers Crib server. It doesn’t require a new desktop icon, you can continue to use your old GTL desktop icon.
We have tested this alternative and it also works fine.

However with this new solution comes a warning. It has been suggested that as this fix is based on a server not operated or licensed by Simbin it could compromise your GTL login password security.

If therefore the password you currently use for GTL is a common password that is always associated with your lobby name, wherever it’s used, be it for gaming or banking etc you may wish to consider a) changing your password or b)not using this fix. The Antideco desktop icon solution has no security implications.

Whichever fix you choose to use the procedure once GTL has loaded is identical.

Choose Multiplayer. Choose LAN/Direct IP. On the next screen click on "Add IP Address" and enter this exactly as written 81.19.209.165
Login as usual using your lobby name and password (you can normally just click on the RH side arrow). At the next screen wait for the event name to appear (can sometimes take up to 5 secs). Click on event and proceed as normal with the relevant SROUK password.

Obviously we will offer help and assistance to anyone who has doubts/difficulties about any of the above.

We hope that the GTL lobby will return to normal service in the near future and will keep you informed of all future developments as we hear of them.

Legzy & Wiltshire Tony

Is our server working as it should ??? Ive managed to get in with the remote Ruby thing with the TXT file in GTL but it will only let me drive for 10 or so seconds then freezes and reloads the track and puts me back in the pits.
Didn't have any luck with the Antideco patch last time  :( it worked once then wouldn't work again after that (ill give it another go) if not ill have to give GTL a miss for now >:(

                                                              Cheers Ade

Sorry to hear that Ade. I have reset the server but I didn't spot anything wrong with it's setup  ???

I've just completed a lap of praccy, qually and race so I think the problems at your end but I'm blowed if I can think what it might be. Maybe your firewall is picking up on something. Perhaps try with it turned off?

Hope someone smarter than me may be able to help more  :(

That's symptomatic of you not having the correct track. If it loads anything other than Bathurst you don't have the right track installed...

Looks like i'm out :(

Never got that ruby thing working before and it still doesnt work and using that text file again doesnt make any difference. I go to add the Srou server but it just cant find it. Strangely i can ping the backup lobby server but not the main one given in the anti-deco install.

You go to add the ip address and put the server ip in. After a few minutes it just says no servers found.

Try "games.simracing.org.uk" instead of an IP address. Easier to remember too. ;)

I've put together a teeny weeny little installer for the new text file "fix" which uses the GC fake lobby authentication, to help our less technically savvy members out.

Grab it here (http://www.humyo.com/F/9240347-1523718695).

It literally just puts the file into your GTL directory. If you've already got Direct IP working you don't need it.

Looks like the fix we need ;D nice and simple, just a tex document with gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de in it, pop it into your GTL folder
( don't forget to take the old one out) start your game as normal, use  multiplayer / internet, register a new  account and your in the lobby
So if it all looks good can the server starter types try it out some time :)

I wondered how long it would be before somebody expanded the RemoteRuby script into a full lobby.

Presumably, we all have to use this at once; IIRC you can't do a Direct IP join if the server is broadcasting in 'the' lobby.

If as many people as possible can give that a go, to see if they can connect... if it works for all then we'll change our server. Let us know?

Just tried it but it would not allow me to register a new account - kept stating 'general failure'

What is it I need to do to set a new account.  Do I need a new driver profile or use my present one.
Is it worth trying to log on with my existing driver and account?  Guess I need a 'fools' guide please.

Oh yeah! Back from the dead baby!  ;D 8)

I actually found the screens confusing, once your at the login screen click on the small 'register' button on the left-hand side near the bottom. Fill out all your details to register then click on the large arrrow bottom right. You should get a registration successful message.

Your existing details will not work as this is not the same server, you will need to re-register Laurie.

Altbierbude do have a server setup with no mods running. Enjoyed the few laps around the Anderstorp short track in the 911 i did 8)

Why dont we use the standard tracks more?

Was thinking more about all the email addresses they now have on file when registering.

Just saying that if someone else got your key, logged on with it and you tried to log on it would reject you because there is someone else using that key. That's why we keep our keys safe.

As I have 3 different GTL loaded to my PC I tried putting the new Lobby file in one of them and registered - still got the same error - give up for the moment.

:offtopic:
Off the top of my head... when we asked for track suggestions for the season, nobody suggested any standard tracks :-\

But I guess Tony & me wanted to experiment more this season, use good tracks that hadn't been used for a while or ever.

But by lucky coincidence Spanner, the very next GTL Enduro event is at a default track: Monza. :)

Pleased to hear your news PR - sadly I still can not reregister my driver on the server, still getting the same general error message.

Could it possibly be something to do with the fact I used to race with Altbierbude or the fact I recently had a NETGEAR router installed.

If I revert to the old LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.txt file will I be able to join in the races?

I don't know if you can connect direct with IP if the server is broadcast in a lobby? (Anybody know?)
If it does you'll be fine... if it doesn't (& I'm speaking before consulting anybody ), my gut reaction is that we'll go ahead with the method that the most of our racers can join through.

You may not be the only one that can't access this way Ligel, so at this point.... who knows :-\ :)

p.s. you are clicking on register & not continue aren't you? I know that that screen is soo poorly designed, I've made that mistake a few times myself. ::) :-[ ;D

I doubt their lobby is using the key at all. And why on earth would they collect and distribute keys which would render their own lobby servers unusable?

Then pay very atention at the registration steps, it's easy to click on the wrong place.

All OK here, by the way.

Have also been looking at my player PLR file.  Noticed that at the end of 'Multiplayer options' section the last four lines state

Host IP Address     - shows "81.19.209.165"
Online server         - shows "GTL_SERVER.txt"
Online UseName
OnLine Password

Could someone who has successfully connected to the server advise what their player PLR shows.

You definately put the LOCAL_IP_LOBBY text file in your GTL folder? WIth the new altbierbude address in it? Looks to me like your trying to register on the original server.

This is what it states in the new Local_IP_lobby file

'gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de'

What does your player PLR file state as the OnLine Server.  Maybe I should manually up date the PLR.

I'll set up a new driver and see how it goes

But you don't need to set up a new driver, you need to register using details different from anything you've used before.

After a bit more testing it seems that when registering you don't need to enter anything other than a user name, not even a password. Try that Laurie - on the registration screen (which should look like the one below) type a new user name in, leave all the other fields blank, then hit the big arrow at the bottom right of the screen. You should get a registration successful message. At the Log-In screen type in your new user name if it's not already displayed, leave the password field blank and hit the arrow button again to log in.

SUCCESS  at last   :thumbup2:

I really don't know if my action had anything to do with finally being able to register but this morning I disconnected the NETGEAR router and reconnected my Speedtouch modem.  Started GTL, went to multiplayer and registered my normal driver but with a different E-Mail address.  Clicked 'register' and it did it immediately.  Went to the lobby but didn't try joining a race- will do that later.

Thanks Phill and everyone else who offered advice.

Does any of our computer experts have an explaination re disconnecting the router or is it mere coincidence.

Again thanks for all the help - see you at Long Beach

very relieved

Oohh modems :shifty: I'd imagine that the router was blocking it and now you have a direct route to your PC. I'd be careful with that tho'!

I wonder if its all to do with router setups, why some people cant/ can connect?

You should still be able to connect using the current method Goldtop.

It shouldn't have anything to do with the driver profile as that only details stats on the track, your still using the same settings regardless of player profiles.

I had hoped that with a semi working lobby that it might have then let me in to the server but it still didnt like using the current method. Seems they are seperate so can people please try out connecting to the 'new' lobby?

GT just put it in your GTL folder, i think  the new text file will over write the old one anyway ( if you used the text file fix to connect before and not the antideco patch).

Its just another Text file called LOCAL_IP_LOBBY with the new Bierbude lobby address/name gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de.

Although I am even more confused now I felt I should let you know:

As I mentioned before I have three separate versions of GTL loaded.  Having managed to fix the SROU and GBGTL versions this morning when connected to my old Modem I decided to reconnect the Router and try the 'Add-on' Cars version.  I first got rid of all my original drivers and created a new one.  Went to multiplayer and registered the new driver AND it bloody well worked.  I will not even attempt to understand what has been happening but felt it may make sense to or help the comp experts among us.

Still relieved and delighted but totally out of my depth

We need to 'install' it on the server before then - so far we've only tried it to do the authentication before joining direct.

I used Dave's installer and it worked fine. Re-registered with existing name (leaving everything else blank) and was soon at the lobby.

From RSC (http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?p=4008176#post4008176):

Quote from: derDumeklemmer;4008176
Bierbuden GTL-Lobby new IP-Address

We had some problems in running the "new" lobby at the current server since the physical machine was already to busy with some game server and our bierbuden-seeder (management software for our peer to peer autodownload solution in the last days.

This leaded into the situation that the lobby was down at least twice a day and the respond time was a bit slowly.

So rented we a dedicated server for lobby now and moved the lobby to this new machine hopefully the problems will disappear that way.

In case you're in trouble connecting to the lobby pls. do a ipconfig /flushdns and reboot your router (if any).

Afterwards gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de should be resolved to the ip 87.106.79.180.

In case you're still in trouble to connect pls. manually add a line to your hostfile (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts)

87.106.79.180 gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de # for the "new" lobby

Dear Sysops: Pls. check your DNS resolution to make sure your gameserver is using the new one already and restart your GTL game servers

cheers,
  Uwe

PS
Sorry for the inconveniences during the move, but we sincerely hope that the situation with the lobby uptime and speed will improve after the move!

Let's spend a big thank you to lowspeed, he did the magic to implement a new lobby code from scratch!

cheers,
  Uwe

Most people won't need to do anything, but if you have trouble over the next 24-48 hours, do "ping gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de" at a command prompt and check the address.

Use a slightly different name for registration eg Spanner*

You don't have to enter a pass or email. Just a name and off you go. Your ingame name will remain as Spanner.

Well i've no idea then, tried just a username, tried using a password but still just says cant connect to server. Be interested to hear from anyone else had problems under win7 (hint, hint)

It is just the local_ip_lobby file we need isnt it, and nothing else?

The online key is the one inside the box? not the one on the CD?

Tried inputing the key again last night but still no joy. I'm missing those 935's :(

I think you need the backup lobby file too - use the hosts hack from the GTL downloads if in any doubt.

Another file.

If you haven't already, use the hosts hack. It puts both files in with the correct address in each.

The host hack as per 1.2.0.0 from here:

http://www.humyo.com/!#/9240347/SimRacing.org.uk/UKGTL/

gives me 3 files:

HostsHack.txt
LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.TXT
uninstall_Hostshack.exe

the local ip lobby txt files gives me:-

gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de

Having re-read the gamers-crib thread posted by Legzy, it talks about a local_ip_backup_lobby but also talks about other changes. Was going to register there to work out what they are actually asking to do.

Bugger, I thought the hosts hack put the backup one in too. Just copy the local_ip_lobby.txt to the backup name too and IIRC you should be able to register.

Try registering again with a different username and a blank password.

I can now register even if it takes a few minutes to go through, but watching the packets it seems to only login to the backup lobby that says 'GT legends lobby' rather than 'altbierbude lobby' if i try and force it it wont connect.

I've just released an updated hosts hack (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack) which installs both text files as required. Sorry about that - I had assumed I'd already done it but I think I got sidetracked trying to get the FTP part for shared setups working properly.

I've just tried it and I registered a new username with blank password and email without any problems or delays.

Only thing I can think is that if you registered with the same username using a different online key you need to reregister with a different name. It doesn't make that at all obvious! Try registering again with a completely made up name (preferably one that still bears some resemblence to your forum ID though!)...
