Hi,

Being new to this I wonder about the cars. When I did join this league last race at Kyalami I drove the Brabham bt11.

But I have noticed that you have restrictions about cars and sins I am not on the "Full time drivers list", (although listed as such on top where the password is given), I though I better ask if it is ok if I continued with the bt11.

Yes continue with the same chassis.

If you are too fast or slow for it you could be moved but it is up to the moderator.

The moderator's report has been published for the previous round, see here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6896#event1878).

If you have been awarded a penalty you should have received a PM automatically advising you to read the report.  If you didn't pick up a penalty please read the report anyway, there are lessons to be learnt by everyone.

Good luck tonight, please take care at T1 on Lap 1, it is quite tricky.

Sorry about the server problem tonight gents.  Test race on UKGPL4 was OK so Vos will check out UKGPL6.
Well big apologies for the unmitigated disaster tonight and thanks to Phil for stepping in and at least giving a us an outing  :notworthy:
What can I say, the server has always been solid as a rock, and I'm sure I could organise a p*ss up in a brewery. Investigations are underway and, contrary to some suggestions, the server is not overloaded with hardcore porn - I keep that on the external drive  ;D
Seriously will be checking for any nasties and give it a clean out. It's a 20meg cable connection and usually 100% rock solid but we did get a major 'out' last week across the whole postcode area. Does anyone know of a proggy I can download to check the connection?

As regards the result I think we should use the Monza race. After two laps it was just Bernie and me and, after he hung up the towel, I could claim an 'official' win  ;D
Seriously (again) a re-run will be pencilled in, probably at the end of the season, but will leave that to the division mods...

Final apologies again.

after the umpteenth disco I decided to join by server IP rather than IGOR to see if things were any better connection wise .

As you might expect the connection was exactly the same and I got kicked out again

But the strangest thing , when I tried to re join again by IP the password I had previously typed in  "cascades" had been corrupted and now read "cascades/tits"

I know where the appendages came from but have no idea how they got to be forwarded to the server , very strange goings on , has anyone any ideas why it should do that  :)

well gpl remembers the passwords and Ip's of servers and you can also save the IP's with a name to it's list .

the format for passwords is...

"[access_pwd][/[boss_pwd]][=f.last_of_boss]" (neither the brackets, nor the quotes, should be used, and anything between a pair of brackets is optional).  The password is not case sensitive.

Tuesday race was just bad luck. There was some thought on the night it may be the track but it wasn't. Then there was discussion to run at another track of which I remember at least 4 suggested so no agreement so no championship race as some had no set up for tracks suggested. I can understand that. Some don't want to be late because of other commitments so below is a thought about what to try if it is that specific track on that particular server.

Suggestion - why not have an agreed reserve track so that if the track is not working on the server we try another & run a championship race at that on the night. It may have to be reduced practice or a shorter race, so be it. If everyone knows what the reserve track is they can practice it & get a set up & have the track installed ready to go. Keep that as reserve as long as it is not in the championship & if we ever use it chose another. Perhaps it would be best to use reliable tracks from those on the original game. That would give us Mexico, Mosport & Rouen for this season. Lets not mess about with votes if Vos puts the 3 names in a hat & pulls one out that is the reserve track & thats it.

Thats a good idea or another solution would be to run a practise race on the server for any track we may use that hasn't been tried previously .

If you read the threads,  there were similar problems during the Privateers graduates cup race,  though not to the extent of being disco'd from the race itself as the server seemed to have settled down and most had crashed and burned during the early laps ( I lasted 8 laps isfair which left only a handful still racing ) but certainly I got disco'd about 4 times during practise and was looking to go that way in the race so the writing was on the wall just that no one picked up on it .

Yes also a good idea. I think we tried Adelaide & Clermont in that way. Tuesday was just bad luck with the server. If I remember correctly before season 17 Zeltweg was tried as it was suspected it had a screen freeze problem but was not included in the championship as it happened to several drivers in the trial race, me included.

Not exactly , that stuff is mostly gobbly gook to me , I was simply making an observation

If you join a server using the IP

1st load GPL up

2nd  select multiplayer

3rd type in the IP address  e.g.(in this case ) 80.5.200.198

4th type in password  (in this case)  cascades

Join Race

all OK unless there is a problem joining or you get disco'd , you then have the choice to re join the race,  which takes you back to the multiplayer screen .or quit

In my case when attempting to re join,  the IP address is still displayed in memory which can be seen still in the box where we typed it .

The password is in memory and can also be seen in the same way .

BUT

The password has been altered , it now reads cascades/tits !

I have never seen this before and I was wondering if this was relevant to the connection problems we all encountered , I'm thinking here my PC has IGOR chat running behind GPL causing some kind of clash and cant understand why the extra password has suddenly appeared from nowhere

I confess to being a numpty when it comes to computer stuff its all a bit of a mistery to me , perhaps I should stop watching Derren Brown programmes  :) :) :)

If I remember correctly, when Steering hack = 1, as it is in your case, at low speeds, the steering ratio changes in the way that the car is less sensitive making it easier to control under braking (or the other way round)

I think it helps get the car around tight corners i.e. gasworks hairpin at monaco etc.

When the car speed is around 50mph or less the steering ratio is increased by the app.

I think  ::)

Still no ideas about the ghost in the system  :o

Another annoying thing I have is whenever I run GPL from first boot up my G25 isnt recognised , GPL takes me to the calibraion screen .

If I then come out of GPL , go back to GEM then run GPL again all is OK with the wheel .

fine things these compewters , do they ever work as designed or is it just a myth  :-[

bernie reminded me:

Having a hack on (or off, 1 or 0, this still confuses me) allows greater stability at low speeds when braking but at the same time you can't go around slow hairpins because radius of your U turn grows considerably.

You should try it both ways and see what suits you better, you can even have it on or off at certain tracks, other not.

Kruger ,

dont think it has much to do with stability , rather than steering lock

i.e. the turning radius of the front wheels is increased at low speeds when Hack = 1

maybe effects stability due to the greater turning circle , but cant say I ever noticed .

perhaps I should pay more attention

just a thought , maybe I should try it with and without, next time i dive inside someone going into the Parabolica  ::)

Just to give you an update on the server. Given it a clean up, ran updates etc and Jethro kindly looked through some connection stats and gave it a clean bill of health.
I'm putting it down to problems with the cable company, the connection went down a day or two before the race.
Hopefully all is ok now, if you see ukgpl6 running would be good if you could hop on to check the connection.

Thanks Vos, I'm sure it was the ISP.  I've had similar problems, very frustrating but there is nothing that can be done apart from changing ISP but there is no guarantee that will solve it.  They all have their good and bad days ::)

thx Vos !
I will hop on to check ukgpl6 todays evening.

Very true bernie, no steering hack and your wheel input under braking provides less chance of losing it under braking, hence, gives more stability.

Please note the 9 Feb re-run will be using the new server;

Server = UKGPL_T7_2
IP Address = 62.149.202.168

Updated the main race post to reflect this.
