Title: UKGTL Season 8 GT Classics Cup - Revisited - Bathurst - Dec 3
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on November 28, 2009, 11:55:14 AM +0000
In case you have been hiding under a rock, there are GTL lobby problems. But.... all is not lost!

This is what I did to connect to the server:
1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

With that fix, there is no need to touch your host file (unless you've already changed it, then you would need to remove the GTL changes you did). If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

Not raced here since my Race Driver days - with assistance on.  ;)  I missed our last race here.  Other than the obvious one of driving slower, any tips to stop my car leaping over those walls and going for a mountain run?  ::) ???

If no one objects?

I don't have a problem with an alternative time. I'll see what I can do and will change the announcement to suit.

EDIT: Start time changed. Bring your shades  8)

I went over the wall on lap5 last time and never made it back to the track.  So I'd advise you find out how to get back on the road - take a look at the post after the last race there and the replay.

Real Shame, had practiced this one as I missed the previous one.
Got tangled with people, had to wait twice, then smacked into a car that had rejoined into the middle of the track
right in front of me, suspension bent. too annoyed to continue.

Sorry folks I just lost it for qualifying - couldn't complete a timed lap.  Had too many accidents in the race and rejoined if front of a BMW sorry - hope I didn't do too much damage.  I quit in disgust.

Miraculously avoided all the mayhem to find myself in 4th or 5th. Then locked up at the bottom of the hill when it looked like
I was going to run into Phil, which put me in the sand. A couple of silly mistakes followed and I decided to call it a night.

Somehow these revisited tracks just don't seem as much fun as they were first time round, or maybe it's because there's not a championship to add the extra bite. Roll on next season :)

What a great track!  Many thanks to Dan for providing his excellent Escort set-up - wouldn't have had a hope in hell without it.

Disappointing race for me as well unfortunately though.  Quali'd 6th with a PB which I was pleased about as I'd never even seen Bathurst before this evening.

The start was slightly chaotic because of PR's unfortunate disco, but no harm done and managed to get back past Tony after his very nippy start.  Settling in for some enjoyable laps chasing Oily with Ade and Minton disappearing into the distance.  Passed Oily after he had a minor tussle with the barriers but I clearly wasn't going to keep him behind me.  Let him past into the twisties but lost concentration doing it.  Clipped and got tipped over by the barriers and landed in the track facing the wrong way.  Thought I might just be able to get round and out of the way before everyone else behind descended on me, but realised I couldn't so hit ESC.  Hopefully, I got to the button in time and didn't cause anyone any problems (Tibs perhaps?).  If I did though, I'm really sorry.

Fantastic track though, definitely one of my favourites now.

Hope everyone else that finished had a good race!  Was looking like a Minton (1), Ade (2), Oily (3) podium when I left it half way through.

Cheers, Ross.

Great track, but with no run offs and that wall, mistakes can be costly as I again discovered  ::) Shame I didn't catch you Ligel, I was up for a battle.
Great choice though guys but Bathurst is a real car breaker, respect to Pods

That was a real test of endurance!

Man.. totally empty of 50 minutes of concentration.
Had some nice fights with API and Phil. Well, 'fights'.. they were catching me because I managed to keep the car on the track  ::)

Believe only 5 finishers.. respect Ligel for finishing this one  :notworthy:

Sorry phspok, I think it was me you kept tangling with.  First time I had a tap and half spun, thanks for waiting for me.  The second time I went off avoiding Laurie (braked earlier than I was use to - my fault Laurie)  and had to use full throttle to keep the Escort engine running in the sand trap and unfortunately did not lift early enough to rejoin.

My only consolation was I got a new PB trying to stay ahead of you.

Bill

Not to discuss incidents in the forum, but  :whistling:
Had there been any contact, (In a hypothetical world of course) It would have been as much my fault for
being too impatient
I had messed up qual with low fuel handling issues, just missed getting a lap in, had a misunderstanding
with Silbury Hill (sorry Tony) charged up behind you and didn't allow enough for the closing speed
Passed you, fell off trying too hard to make up time..... set off, saw you going accross the grass
thinking, "he'll stay on the right" wrong,  seemed you were heading left so I tried to go right  :sweatdrop:
hindsight says if I'd lifted more I could have easily avoided contact.

Loved the track although it is unforgiving, and the cars were a nice choice, I found the blue CSL much easier to
drive on the limit than any of the others.

So, when can I have another go mods? ahh next week? coolest  8)

Last night I supposed that to me Bathurst (one of the most difficult circuits to survive at) represented my ‘life’ and nothing short of total disaster would make me give up before it officially ended.  Despite being at the back, generally on my own, it is a complete challenge to successfully complete a race – no matter how long.

I used the ‘in-cockpit’ add-on Ade provided a link to for the first time, and found it a great aid.  Especially on the RHS where it showed who was in front and also who was behind me, so I was able to see the leaders gradually getting closer to lapping me.  Thanks Ade – can I use it in PnG as well?

Congratulations not only to the podium but also the 6 of us who managed finished.

Dan you were very unfortunate to suffer engine failure on the last lap – but hey it isn’t all bad news as you gave me my highest ever finishing position 5th.  :thumbup1: :thumbup1: for which I am eternally grateful.  Actually as so many kept pulling out I even mused that I might even end up on the podium.

This brings me to real ‘pet hate of mine’ drivers who leave a race just because they are having a ‘bad hair day’.  :nono:  Every time I managed to pass someone last night (usually due to them going off the track) and pick up a place the person appeared to exit the game (okay I know it doesn’t affect my position but it is more satisfying to be 12 of 13 than 12th). If you can not continue (stalled engine, no wheels etc) then okay but if you can make it to the pits for repair I believe that out of respect to your fellow drivers you should do so.  Just quitting I believe to be very disrespectful to those battling on.  I have seen all the excuses ‘I was driving below par and didn’t want to spoil others race’  ‘I couldn’t complete a lap without going off’ well why not just slow down a bit and drive with a bit more caution.

So can I appeal to everyone that next season we show considerably more respect to each other and “stick at it” if at all possible. Also (although it doesn't really affect me) can drivers stop trying to win the race on the first corner of lap 1. There is generally a long road ahead and if you are fast enough you will get back into the pack.

I’ll get off my soap box now and thank all of you for making this season’s races so enjoyable (GTL and PnG) I look forward to being able to continue next season.

Final thanks to Tony and Legzy for their great innovative organisation.  :thumbup2: :notworthy:

Laurie
