Quite, was nice being 2nd in the timesheets because not many folks were there!

The Windows Update restart counter appeared though, behind GTR so I never noticed it until it rebooted the machine, hence my random departure, I'll see you on Sunday no doubt!

I've resigned from the 550 :( Whoever started the rumour thats its the best of the old lot needs a good slappin.

Looks like i'll be in the Saleen as its something i've been wanting to try out since i started and hopefully might not be quite so bad. 1.39 so far and at least its more manageable.

Though in desperation if anyone does have a semi-normal 550 setup i could try to work out where i've gone wrong it would be most appreciated.

I am a complete GTR novice but I managed a 1:39.9 in the 550 last night with what is still, in essence, the default setup.  I may have tweaked the diff a tad and I may also have softened the front anti-roll bar a click.  You can have it if you tell me how to get it there.

I could still do with more turn-in but haven't a clue how to get it as nothing that I do seems to have any great effect.  It's probably down to my stupid feet.  Especially the left one.

Nice track.

Err exactly. I've gone more extreme than that, dropping the f-arb down to 100 and even less, raising the rear to 30-40, dropping the diff right down, softening the whole car or stiffening it etc. But it seems to drive it you need quite a bizarre setup, or at least change your style to drve it from the rear.

I can do 39-40's with it but i felt i was have to catch the front from washng out all the time and i just cant sort the brakes out so it starts to lock right at the end and keeps some heat so i'm not braking from cold and having to use most of the straight!

I know its down to me and my style but everytime i drive it, its frustrating.

To me it just understeers, which for a car with pretty much central weight dist is strange. meds on the front have no grip, softs wear out too much. Strangly the Aston was better than this and you felt that mass in the front more but it would still turn in nicely.

Thanks for the link.  The GH race setup has sneaked me below the 1:39 barrier but I don't have a clue why.  I had been piling on the power side diff and had gone past 50% in an attempt to get some power on-steering but GH seems to provide that using black magic and 30% power side.

His qually setup wasn’t much use to me as it’s only good for two laps before the guy on the radio starts ranting at me, in Swahili, about the engine over heating.  It takes me two laps to remember which way the corners are going.

Nae chuffed!

Qualified 13th, that'll do after 10 months of no racing! Got going in the race, lost 2 places after re-passing somebody who'd passed me who outbraked themselves a bit into T1, so I had to run v.wide so we didn't collide, lost the 2nd place as a result.

Then the rain came, a bit rubbish 'cause I was running very long, but I realised after about 10 seconds that folk seem to struggle when it looks wet, I was planning on staying out for 3/4 laps to see which way the rain went, during which time I would make up several places. Except I suddently lagged out a lot, thought I'd been disconnected so I hit Escape to make sure my lagging 550 didn't get in anybodys way...only to find when I was back in the pits, I could see everybody else again (after a few seconds more of uber-lag)...so I could've probably got away with not quitting.

Disappointing, I was delghted when I saw the rain!

Big mess. Was disapointed to see the rain, I too was going for a long 1st run, came round the 2nd to lst
and hit a red 550 that looked to be rejoining, but was hung. got lapped while getting out of the gravel
pitted, left tyres as hard all round, got VERY warpy into T1 so I went wide to let two GT1s through
went into the fence for my trouble, partys of car flying through the air, not keen on wet on line races anyway
so quit.

Well not my best race, was hitting low 1.37s in practice but couldn't manage anywhere close to that in qualy.
First lap of the race went well made a space or 2 then the weather turned.
I was all over the place so i pitted in for wet tyres and low and behold when i came out of the pits it had stopped raining, went round one more lap pitted again, messed my fuel up and escaped out of the game.

congrats to all finishers.

Race was going OK. JayBlue was a fair bit quicker in the race and I had no answer to his speed but was confident of 2nd place, then....SBG flashed me past so was just searching for the 'h' on the keyboard to flash back and my arm flicked the gear lever and threw the car in to 1st and the engine blew :-[ 2nd time I've done that now. Nevermind. Hope you all had a good 'un 8) cya next time ;D

Am I right in thinking that if you don't select a setup when the session changes to race then you get stuffed in the default?

I certainly felt like it but with the rain I didn't really know which way was up.

I managed to always be on the wrong tyres in the first half of the race.

The sky was as black as the inside of your hat after five laps so I put wets on.

By the time I came out of the pits it had just about stopped and all four tyre were showing red in that thingamy in the top left of the screen.  So I pitted again and put intermediates on, since it was still raining.  They were OK but I had no idea what they were going to do.  Finally at half distance I went back to medium slick and stayed like that for the rest of the race.

Unlucky Jon. Maybe map the lights to your shifter unit, or don't flash back ;)? I have mine on the far left red button.

Pretty disasterous race for me. Qualified in an amazing 3rd that I really wasn't expecting. My practice involved driving back and making it just before the start of the event, so I just grabbed the last setup (as usual) and dived right in. Quick adjustment on the gear ratios and stuff and was sorted.

With Jon in 2nd and me in 3rd on the grid I thought it was going to be a bonanza night for Team Shark. Bah! Weather! Bah!

Started fine, with TT behind me, just getting into it and then the skies suddenly darkened and it started to rain heavily. In that one lap I really struggled to hold it on track and decided if it was raining this hard I would be clever and get hard wets on straight away. Jon and JayBlue didn't and I thought oooh, might get the jump on them here by coming in first. Bah! I think the reasoning was good, but after 1 or 2 laps the rain stopped and the wet tyres were so bad that it was almost like driving on ice.

Decided I had to stay out then as I didn't want to lose another pit stop, but after a while and speaking to Jon I realised I was 6 or 7 seconds off the pace of the slicks and so I stayed out as long as I could to get enough fuel to get to the end. Well I came in earlier than that to put on slicks and realising it was VERY tight on fuel I raced 40-50 minutes on short shifting to make sure I made it to the end. As it turns out not sure that was a good idea either as I was losing 2 seconds a lap short shifting which I maybe could have made up again with a splash and dash.

Oh well, most annoyed as I had the third fastest lap of anyone in the race so a podium was a real possibility. Just unlucky. In hindsight I should have stuck to my usual rule of if you aren't falling off then don't pit to change tyres just cause the rain is falling.

Well done JB and SBG on the wins.

Bad luck to Picnic too on yet another disco. :-\

BTW, can I PLEASE ask everyone to ENABLE Simple Debris Collisions in their games. There was one moment in that race when I was behind another GT1 and someone ahead went off into the gravel and it made the other GT1 warp like mad. Enabling simple debris collisions stops the graphics slow down and subsequent warp.

Well that was a total disaster.

Got a tap on the formation lap (might have been my own fault), did 2 and a half pit stops (I was already on the pit lane, going to change the tyres back to slicks when it started to rain again...) and hit 2-3 lagging cars. And I short-shifted for the last 7-10 minutes to just notice that the race won't last that long. I'm glad that I didn't practise so much for this race. ::)

Sorry GTCs if I was a bit aggressive. :( The rain just isn't for me (besides that I'm not so good in driving in wet conditions, I also suck at tactics ;D).

Well done winners and pods. :)

Very disappointing result for me after a really good performance in qualifying. Race started okay but once the rain came my tyre temperatures plummetted and I had little choice but to put. Fuelled up too and if it had stayed wet I'd have been laughing, but as soon as the rain stopped I was in the same position as Shark, miles off the pace and with badly overheating tyres. There simply wasn't enough water to cool them down the straights so I had to pit again for slicks, which put me two laps down and completely out of contention.

After that the car just never felt quite right; I managed one 45 which was the second fastest lap of the race in GTC, but it was so inconsistent whenever I started pushing that I had at least 4 or 5 offs and stood no chance of a decent result. :'( I think maybe I needed more ride height to cope with the fuel load, but it felt okay in practice.

Very disappointing.

Am I right in thinking that if you don't select a setup when the session changes to race then you get stuffed in the default?

Don't think so - normally you get whatever you had in at the end of qually. With the change in weather the car can feel quite different though.

The race didn't start too well for me, got distracted and didn't get a decent lap in during qualifying, and managed to spin myself off in the very first corner.

Of course hadn't checked the forecast before the race so the rain came as a total surprise. Figured I'd get in right away for wets to try and catch up, however so did everyone else and as I came in I had another car in my pitbox. Nothing to do but continue back out, which turned out to be lucky anyway since med slicks felt decent even during the heaviest rain, was just some seconds off my pace.

Had no idea where I was for the rest of the race, mostly just dodging the GT1's as usual, they either lapping, passing for position or unlapping. I guess Prof made the right call in the beginning and sneaked in second, but 1-3-4 is almost as impressive for the team. :)

Wow! Great race. ;D

Fighting all race long with Jose and nsfast. Had about 3 corners door-to-door with Jose, nice.

Sorry to GTCs. I did a few very numpty moves.  :-\
The pressure was destroying my mental state and I made a few bad decisions.

Sorry.

TT and Simon definitely surprised me with how early they went into the pits. The resident Team Psuedo rain expert, Reign Man, always said that we should wait until the lap times drop by about 10 seconds a lap before changing to wets. This info has served me well. ;D

Did I lap you TT?  ;D

Well done podiums, see you all next week.

Cwap, thought I might have been warping or something as I saw you pull off  :-\

Tough but enjoyable race that. Decided to stay out as long as I could on slicks which proved to be the right decision. It was really tough at points, wish I was on soft/soft instead of med/med, but that effectively determined outcome of race.

GT gents were very good  :) Great result for Team KC. Hopefully get time to test some other GTC's to spice things up for next week.

Qualified second in GTC and finished second albeit a lap behind SbG and nearly a lap ahead of 57GT. I copied SbG and stayed out on Med/Med when the rain came and extended my first stint to nearly an hour.
I managed to avoid most of the carnage in the early laps and had an easy time in the second stint with the gaps being so large. Well done to the GT1s especially in the wet where your advantage wasn't as big as usual and to the podium winners and all finishers on a tricky evening.

Did I lap you TT?  ;D

:cursing:

Full report tomorrow. ;)

Edit: Setup felt ok, Aston is much easier to do than Marcos.  :D
Weather service did a shot in dark as the forecast was dry. ;) It got really dark and it hinted of more than a small shower but I was undecided. If I changed tyres early I could gain a lot - to do or not to do?   While pondering it the pit entrance was already there and Shark swerved in. I followed like a sheep I am. ::) Changed to hard wets :wetfish: and filled the tank, prepaired for a long wet period. Then it started to dry and tyres were getting HOT and the wet surface wasn't really wet to cool them down. Was losing loads of time, I think I was lapped by GTCs.
Like Shark I decided to drive until I could get to the end with the full tank, only Lister uses much less fuel. ;) After pitting I had an accident, I think Picnic warped for a moment and I hit him and spun. Lost two extra places and got a suspension damage. :( Was driving a bit later behind Eddie Meyer then and he also warped, could hardly keep the car on track. Hope you two didn't have damage and extra trouble 'cause of this. Annoying. :(
Was catching Spanner then and his Saleen had enough grunt to pull away on every straight and we had a few close laps together. Well driven, Span - hope the pass wasn't too pushy. :thumbup1:
Legzy was in front and when I tried to figure where Bob was (in front of Legzy) I promptly missed my braking point and almost collected Legzy. Went into sand but didn't lose too much time. Caught Legzy again and he decided it was safer to let me pass. :D
Gsi Bob was too far away to catch, so considering tactics mistakes from my team and warping troubles I have to be satisfied with my 9th place. But I'm not ;) as I was thinking of a pody.

About the weather: ok, I have no objections to rainy races, love them. But clearly the difference between forecast and actual weather was too big in S11. Donington had wet forecast, the race was dry. Brno had snow :o forecast, the race was dry. Barcelona had dry forecast / partly cloudy and there was a shower which messed the things big time. :) I always tell my son to use his own head - I could have used this advice yesterday. ;D

Decided to go with soft slicks as things were looking a bit chilly, but it turned out that these were the right tyres to be on when the rain came and went, then came again and.........eventually all but dried up.

I concentrated on driving a steady and even paced race and hardly made a mistake. I had a fright towards the end when Lorenzo dicoed right in front of me which caused me to brake and swerve off track as I drove straight through him

I wasn't taking much notice of positions and I don't have xd set up to show all the drivers, so I wasn't really sure where I'd finished until the results were posted.

Congrats to both podies and finishers. Amazing drive once again by SBG and very impressive pace/consistency from Prof. Well done also to jpv for his 4th and to Eddie for completing what must have been a baptism of fire (or rain) after his break.

Great result for the Crawlers. Roll on Oschersbleedin whatever it's called :D

Dry forecast, it started raining & looked stormy on lap 2. Going round the last couple of bends before the pits, car had a couple of little twitches already so pitted for HW's.

While I continued running till the end, that was the end of the race as the rain stopped once I got back out on track. We had a giggle about it on TS, as some hadn't come in yet ::) ;)

While my tyres melted, I briefly got my hopes up that I'd made the right choice as it once again started raining, but it was just a little light drizzle & hardly cooled my tyres. I knew I was loosing 5 secs per lap, so didn't even bother waiting till my fuel could last to the end. Pitted again on lap 10 & came out 2 laps down on the leader already ::)

I don't mind at all that we had the rain, it's just a shame that we didn't see a bit more through the race...  I took a gamble with the early pit & I lost. Next time  :)

Well done to all the finishers, apologies to Dave for possibly 'the most indecisive lapping maneuver ever', hopefully I didn't get in others way as much as I came through.

p.s. Have you checked out the GT1 Team Championship... 4 teams currently very much in the mix 8)

Seemed a few people were have connection issues, me and i think API got tangled up with Kidzer warping, nearly got taken out by the Spyker that got TT, while lapping someone there car seemed to appear inside mine!

Saw the mass exodus to the pits when it rained but thought i'd wait it out and see. Though it was pretty difficult on cold tyres and i dont think i was anywhere near the pace sadly but was catching those infront only to hit Kidzers warping car so spent a minute or so digging myself out of the gravel and a few too many spins from then on meant i was catching and passing the same cars lol. Interesting to have the field so mixed up with people coming through from the back.

Annoyingly i let TT past before my stop as he's bound to be quicker only to misjudge how long my stop will be and to come out in front of him by a few secs. Second half i was still struggling a bit and never really got under the 40's and had Legzy teasing me about having to do another stop but he managed to keep going, drat.

Saleen was interesting to drive but not sure i'll stick with it, might run a different car each race. More looking forward to the next season where i'll run GT2 and GTC!

Though i think half my problem is my wheel is playing up and likes to upshift randomly a few times so would end up in the wrong gear and have to downshift down the straights to get any acceleration! Its started a few weeks ago but havent noticed it in iRacing yet.Does anyone know about taking the DFP wheel apart? Dont really want to buy another wheel at this stage :(

Yup.  Done that and changed the upshift microswitch, which I bought at Maplin.

PM me your email address and I will send some pictures.

Another awful race for me! >:(

Qualifying was not so bad, i started from 6th position in the grid and was feeling good with the setup of my 550...
After 1rst lap the rain came on the circuit and i decided not to wait and changed the tires, i choose hard wet ones and think it was a mistake looking at my speed, then i choose intermediate tires and then changed again to dry wet, so 3 pit stops....a disaster...
After racing in no-man's land had a Ctd, second time this season...
I knew this would have been a training season for me, but i'm realizing it's really hard to get the hang of this sim....
I'm feeling like i'm loosing to much time in th pit, maybe i'm doin' something wrong....

Cheers

Lorenzo

I just map the shifters to keys using Joy2Key (or the Profiler), then the double hits go away. Every Logitech wheel I've ever used eventually had this problem - the switches just aren't debounced properly in the electronics.

Fantastic race last night. ;D

I got off to a steady start, gradually easing myself in to it until the sky changed almost straight to black.  :sweatdrop: Within one lap the track had changed from dry to wet. On the final two bends I noticed a number of cars going straight into the pits but decided to carry on for one more lap as tyre temps still seemed ok. This was a lucky break. I've made the same choice before at Spa and lost out. As the tyre temps kept up I knew very quickly that slicks were the best option and there was the chance of unlikely top 5 finish.

The rest of the race was one long fight trailling H@L and Jose, with some very close moments. H@L made a rare mistake in the last five minutes which gave me the opportunity to go past and at the end I was only a couple of seconds behind Jose on the final straight. That's as close as I'm likely to get to a GT1 podium.  :)

Great result for Supersonic Racing last night. The GT1 team championship is looking very close with four teams in contention.

Congrats to both podiums. See you next week.  :)

Made to many mistakes in Qually but 6th wasn't to bad.

Got passed Lorenzo straight away  ??? ( were you asleep lol or maybe wrong gear?? )

Took me a few laps to get into it and TT and Simon got away a little then the rain came, saw TT and Simon go straight for the pits but i decided to stay out as i found the grip still there, even when there was a lot of spray my car felt good just had to be a little careful at the final corner. Then the rain stopped and i thought bingo I'm in with a good shout here but then the rain started again and i thought it would stay this time but again the grip wasn't to bad so stayed out and was obviously the right call as it stopped again.

When it was damp i was keeping Jon in sight but as it dried he got away.

After pit stop it was quite a lonely race as i had i good gap from guys behind and i was never gunna catch Jon and Jayblue so just cruised really but still pulling away from the guys behind  ???
I never really had to push at all in this race which was nice and i could of gone faster but just wanted a good finish so backed off but then got a gift from Jon blowing his engine and ended with a great 2nd.

Grats both podiums.

Lol well nows the time to get off my arse and try it out then before my next race on sunday! Do you mean the logitech profiler? i'll have a play tonight. I think iRacing has this built in as i noticed something in one of the configs to disallow double shifts.

Be warned, the logitech profiler can cause its own 'special effects'. ::)
Don't think I've heard anything negative about Joy2Key.

Remapping buttons will take seconds.

Reprogramming brain to use thumb instead of finger could take me six months.  ;D

Have you got the photos yet spanner?

I love a challenge ;) How about - how the hell do you know which controller button is which so you can map them. I know which button I want to use, it's that one here on my wheel. But is that button 1, 2, 3 ..... 32? It needs a press controller button, press what you want it to do feature. I'm now hoping you're all going to shout at once and tell me the error of my ways  ;D

For the most part the Profiler will show you what is what; for the remainder I just map some stuff in Joy2Key and fire up Notepad, and see what produces what. Bit fiddly but it's a one off exercise.

Err.. thinking about this, wont this still allow me to double shift? Just mapping it to a key then mapping that to the wheel wont stop it from thinking its click it twice?  ???

I guess that the double click is a faulty switch.  If you map the gear change to the Joypad switch, which what I think is being suggested then that is a different switch mechanism all together.  You can see on the photos that I sent that the joypad brings a piece of conductive rubber into contact with an area of the circuit board that has two close but separate tracks on it.  The conductive rubber makes the connection.

No, because there's a repeat delay (just like a keyboard). IMHO the switches aren't inherently faulty, but they (perhaps intentionally) set the debouncing delay in the hardware to quite short, which works okay when the switchgear is new, but unsuitable after a few months of use. When you map it as a key, the software effectively does additional debouncing.

Oops sorry Clive it just clicked. I dont think it was suggested to map it to one of the other buttons on the wheel, but to map the paddle to a key on the keyboard which youve assigned in game to an upshift.

Thanks Dave, thought there was something like that so you could choose the strike rate for the key so it would ignore any other presses.

Ah, I get it now.  A useful ploy.

From your initial description it isn't clear if the extra upshifts are associated with a shift of your own or if they just happen randomly.

If they are associated with a shift of yours then Dave's de-bouncing should work for a time.  If they come out of the blue then my money is on the switch just falling apart.  My previous Logitech wheel did this to me on down-shifts which really did cause havoc.

Isn't there something you can edit in your plr to overcome this double shifting? Some measure which increases the gap by a few ms between recognising shift commands.

Or has that squirrel given me the slip again :D

Don't think so - there's a setting for how long after a manual shift it waits before automatic shifting is resumed if you're running auto, but I don't think there's anything for manual shift delays.

The race went really well for me on Sunday. Having pipped Jon by the smallest of margins in quali we were initially very close on pace, then it started to rain. Luckily for me i had done some laps in the afternoon in the wet so i knew exactly when the change over point was for wets/slicks. So i stuck with slicks. As soon as it got a bit wetter i was able to pull away and when others pitted i continued and found just enough grip to stay on the track and keep temps up without need of a stop. The track eventually dried and i had a 20 second lead, then after my stop i was 30 secs ahead when Jon's engine blew  :(

After that i was able to cruise and not push too hard. On the final laps i lapped Bob and Lazlow and i decided to allow them back past as i took the flag in the hope that Bob could snatch the extra place off Lazlow but it wasn't to be. Still a fantastic haul of points for team Supersonic and suprisingly i retook the championship lead too despite my Disco at Brno. Hopefully the team can continue its form into this Sunday night.

Congrats to Gazza and Jose in GT1 and Ginsters, Prof & Goldentop in GTC on their podiums.
