Server: [PnG2.1] UKPnG S1
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=227)
(5) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(6) Remember that P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function, but our gentleman's agreement is that everyone will stick to a speed limit for the pit-lane of 40mph/60kph.

Is this thread in the right place?

Looks like more fun but will need to learn a track and a car.

Might take a look at the Shelby.

Any time you sort a setup Manteos I will be happy to "test" it!   ;D

Is this thread in the right place?
Yup, think so.
It's not a clubmans race this time, so I've come up with a new line up.

As we've done fast cars at spa & again soon at Le Mans, we're doing our slowest cars at Donington... so have plumped for somewhere in the middle this time ;).

Oooo, oooo, 350  :) I'll try and make it.

No chance of some rain? It is Interlagos :)

lol, I create them in the wrong place nearly every time & I was impressed with myself this time... till you wrote that

No chance of some rain? It is Interlagos :)
We had rain here for the actual event, but it was possibly the worst turnout of the season. That confuses me as people have voted this the most popular & everyone seems to comment that they want to see more rain ??? I'm happy either way:

Say it you want it "DRY" or "WET" please people?

Dry with maybe a bit of DRY and perhaps some DRY.
I hate wet races, I can see how some may relish the extra "challenge" but on-line wet races are masochism for me.

Dry 4  Vs  -1 Wet

I don't think that we should have the option to pick the weather.  Weather is just, well, weather.  You get what mother nature dishes out and just have to make the best of it.

And apart from a good downpour, what else will stop the front right tyre from melting at this place?

Let's keep it real 8)

Help! man down. Medic Medic!
I've installed XD, how do I get to see it? I've D/Led and installed the motec i2 as well in case it needed that.
Not tried in GTR2 yet. do you press some keys? does it just appear? how do you configure it? if you can.

erm think its the tab key phil or the one above left of it '¬'  ...failing that there is a readme or config file you can read in notepad in the game or install dir.

I'm with Clive...weather should be in the lap of the gods, no one should be able to predict it, even the guy running the weather file  ;)

Try it, exit game and lauch game again. Hope it works.

if it meant some people wont turn up if its wet, then we should stick to dry, but some of the best races i had in the MARA season 1 were when you had a downpour or shower during the race (or two), it really adds to the spice and the feeling of being in a real world race.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I now have it working fine in GTR2, it's just P&G where it won't work.
It doesn't create the XD.ini file as it has in GTR2. What did people do to make it work with P&G?

I have the latest version 2.1.3 and I have installed the latest DirectX 9.0c

Matt Ive just had a look see and took out the XD dll and XD config files from P&G and just copied the two files over from GTR2  into P&G and it worked fine, so give that a go.

May not make this now because my graphics card has just gone belly up!

Is a nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT 512 MB AGP going to be any quicker than an Fx 5950 Ultra?

Answers to day please as it will probably be ordered by tonight.  ;D

My disclaimer before I announce this is, that my maths is about on a par with MJ's... ;)

The unofficial weather vote for Thursday's race is over & I make the weather voting scores to be:
I want wet = 4
I want real = 4
I want dry = 4

Brilliant. Thanks for that ::)

The other way of looking at it is: As it's a draw, I get the casting vote ;D

As we did a wet race here last time & it wasn't that well supported... I vote for DRY this time.

But requests for "real-world weather" have been noted for future use.

Cars allowed: Alfa Romeo Volumetrico, Shelby GT350 SCCA, Jaguar E-Types (not lightweights), Ferrari 250GT Competizione, Mustang Trans Am
After completing further testing, allow me to unofficially translate that:

  • Car for Girls Cheats people who are struggling for pace here ;) = Shelby GT350 SCCA
  • Car for Aliens people who'd 'like a challenge' here :o = Ferrari 250GT Competizione
  • Cars that seem quite even paced here 8) = Alfa Romeo Volumetrico, Jaguar E-Types (not lightweights), Mustang TransAM

Maybe that'll help some people find their car for the night :-\

Interesting.

If my new graphics card shows up then it looks like a 350GT for me.  I'm not proud!

Just one concern over how many pit stops I might need because the front right tyre has caught fire.

Ordered from Germany on Sunday night and delivered before noon on Wednesday via standard "FREE" post!  They are getting some serious positive feedback from me.

Will not hear another word against HDNL  ;D

Strange one this MJ. For me the Alfa is fastest popping into the 56s but braking is .......hilarious.

The tanks I've tried have trouble with melting front right tyre. The 250 and the E-Type are both slower for me, but I've seen fast laps by others.

Should be interesting entertaining :)

My best in any car so far is a 1:57

I need all of it.

I think I saw a 56 in the Alfa and the 350 last week. This week I can just creep into the 59s with
the 250, 58s maybe in the jags, 57s inthe Alfa. I will be driving the Alfa tonight however much faster
the 350 might be. Brakes are a hoot into T1 for me, it wants to swap ends under braking
other places not so bad. I just set the brake bias well forward (like 62%), and it seems drivable.

Good effort chaps... true gent drivers  :notworthy:

I even whacked the Alfa's braking down to 80% as well as shifting the bias... still had me all over the shop under braking!

I'm running with the brakes at 80% & the bias at 68-70 to the front & you still need to be at bit careful. Eventually got down to 1.55.0 with it.

Was fun holding people up for the 1st 7 or so laps, but I span myself & had to wait for all to pass. I hung around for about another 5 laps, but it seemed like I was destined to a lonely race from then on... once I had a little knock on the car, I needed no further excuse to quit out.

Hope others enjoyed it more. :)

Sorry i had to leave the race early. Got a mate who is seriously ill in hospital so had to take the call when it rang.  :(

Great track, great cars...but too many alfas  ;) i dont think saloon cars should be mixed in with GT cars personally, unless there are two classes competing for points.

Welcome Dan  :) You'll have fun here but remember to read announcement in future  ;)

The Alfa vs 250 fight (not sure what happened to Mike :'() was tricky but fun. For first serious run in 250, I was delighted to be hanging on to Paul and it would have been interesting but, alas, it wasn't to be. Its a great little car that.

I never felt really comfortable defending against the Alfas but it was only a fun run and hopefully that confidence can be built with a few good runs before S2 (?). A couple of fun races should help me ;)

The worst first entrance imaginable.....
Wrong car;not responding to chat messages from moderator;chatting during qually and before everyone had finished etc etc. Yes I know I know, these are about the worst sins a simdriver can commit.
I feel deeply embarrassed and I am writing to you from a hole in the ground where I have been hiding since race end.

Sorry chaps, won´t happen again. It can´t be a lack of experience as some could confirm, so it must have been the age !

I´ll do better next time.    Cheers, (senior)Dan.

Ps. Tony, I sent you a pm but I am not sure I it reached you. Could you let me know, please ?

Results & Replay in the usual places

Better that you get it wrong in this one Dan then in a real event  :)
I've DQ'd you as your car was not eligible to race, but I've left your fastest lap detail there (currently) so you have an idea of your pace. Hope to see you at Donington in a legit car ;)

That was huge fun and increased my experience of close battles with these beasts by about 300%.

I don’t think that I caused too much trouble and thanks to everyone that I encountered for some good clean fun.  I did think that I may have given JPV a helping hand to exit stage right but having looked at the replay I see that he put a wheel on the grass and did it all on his own.

I know that Tim was dogging my footsteps for a long time and that I was trying to catch Ade’s E-Type at the end but who the rest of you were I haven’t a clue.  90% of you being a red Alfa with number fifty on the door didn’t help much either.

I shall have to get my elbows out and be more aggressive at the start.  I was mugged again by about half a dozen cars before I had found a slot that I felt secure in.  I was also very wary over the first two laps, waiting for my tyres to heat up.  Another handful of you took advantage of that as well.

So is it pedal cars at Donnington Legzy?

Clive, do you have labels turned on? (normally set to TAB).

Crivens!

Give me another six years and I might have found all the whistles and bells.

Can you switch it on and off during a race?  Don't think that I want anything floating about above the cars all the time.

Thanks Paul.

Yes, tab just toggles it. I tend to just turn in on and leave it. After a while you just get used to it, and it also helps you see cars in the distance and when they are hidden (over brows, in the pits, etc).

That was a lot of fun!  ;D

I had done virtually no practice so plumped for a car I could keep on track, so went for the sensible choice -Alfa. Once I sorted out the brakes it was good to go  :D

I spent most of the first part of the race trying to catch Clive, but he pulled away after I drove too hard a few times and spent the rest of my time battling it out with JPV and Phil,  JPV passed me a few times but I usually got by when he went wide at a turn.  :thumbup2:

Sorry to Truetom, I gave you a nudge in the hairpin, and I'm sure I tangled with JPV & Phil at least once.

I'm already looking forward to the next race at Donnington!

Also in a race it shows you the position of the car you're racing, making it much easier to work out if you're being lapped/lapping someone.

Like Paul, I leave it on during a race.

For an headache I had to jump this one, but I'll be ready for the next season events on Thursdays... hoping that they won't overlap with the Italian P&G championship "Racing on the Web" in which 6 VDA drivers are involved.
Mr. Legzy, did I miss some news about the new P&G season or there's nothing sure about the future?!?!
I stay tuned!!!
Cu guys :)

Kids rang my phone constantly expecting me to pick them up from school. If I didn't quit, I think I'd hear an earful from the wife all night. Better to save the win for another day. No points tonight anyways. Sorry I had to bail.

Grats on pole anyway Mike.

Would you have been able to keep the tyres on it for the complete race?

Excellent race, the Alfa really suited this track, as most of the grid agreed.

Awful start meant I was down to around 10th by T1 but recovered to 7th by the end of lap 1. Took 2 or 3 laps to find a way past API's wide Alfa & then reeled in the lead 4 (Mike having left by then). For several laps the front 5 were really close, 2-3 s, but I was stuck in 5th place unable to unseat Matt from 4th. Finally nicked 3rd when Matt & Ian had a bump  :o at T1 & set off after PR & Paul.

Hounded Paul for a couple of laps until he got onto the grass on the run to the S/F straight & nipped past. I expected a fight back, but I think the Fezza's tyres were gone & the fight back never came. With 6 laps now left to catch PR, I thought I might be able to get a win, but PR was running around the same pace as me & I couldn't get closer. In fact I started overdriving a bit & lost a couple of seconds on the last 2 laps, but more than pleased with 2nd place & an enjoyable close race.  ;D

Congrats to PR & Paul & to all who finished.

Good start allowed me to jump from 8th to 4th, just behind 2 Ferraris and the pole's Shelby.
Managed to pass the both 250 and for a time I was shortning the gap to the Shelby aswell,
unfortunately Mike wouldn't be able to finished, could be fun.
Since I got the lead I never been able to breathe as the folowing cars were always at 1-2 seconds
close. After Geoffers get the second place, I became more worried, about 8 laps to the end to keep
him behind with a very same Alfa... :o fortunately I had enough concentration to keep the 1.56-1.57
pace to mantain a 2 seconds gap, which gave me confidence.

Race was very enjoyable with the battles with Paul and Ian's 250 and with the pressure of being
chased by Geoffers.

Welcome Seniordan, it's a pleasure to see you here, you will like the SROUK community,
the lads are superb!

Congrats to the podium and all finishers.

Cheers

I'm not sure. I didn't do any testing for this event prior to just before the race. The right front was taking a bit of a beating in the slow twisty bits, but there was plenty of long straights for it to cool each lap. I think the GT350 had the pace to open a gap and then maintain. I was on the phone the 2nd lap so I couldn't show the pace. There will be plenty more opportunities.

Well, That was a surprise for me! I hadn't really paid much attention to the date, and just logged on last nite for a bit of praccy. I was surprised to see 18 of you in the server. Then it Clicked!

In Practice I was struggling to get a sub 2.00 lap, so I wasn't expecting to be competetive. (You lot are so bloody FAST!)  :scooter:

Anyhow, qualified second from last, remembered to change to race fuel & I was away! :) Had some good fun with Bill at the back of the field but at the end of the day I just was not fast enough!

Much practice needed for S2 and the crimbo Speciale

See you all soon,

I'm interested to know how people find that group of cars for racing, as we've not used them much so far. Let me know how you're getting on with them in that thread. :)

I was over as far as I could safely go, to the left, on a narrow track.  I couldn't lift off earlier to let you through as I was battling with Bully, as we'd been for most of the race.  I hit the barrier and by the time I'd restarted the engine, backed up etc I'd lost touch with Bully.  I think we were lining up for a good finish as I think I was faster on the last part of the track and lost out every time on T1 where I had to brake early and change down or else I lost it under braking.  It was good fun racing with Bully who is faster than me but seems to have a higher tyre wear than me.  I don't think I have been so close to another for so long before - thanks Bully for the racing space, it was great.

Bill

Heres mine http://www.humyo.com/F/9269991-2247890165 Very much thrown together and a tad understeery, Pauls would be a good contrast I guess.

Are you implying the 250 will be getting some more runouts  ;)

For once, SBG might have gone for a more oversteery setup than me! Anyway, mine is here:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.harrington/250%20ph2.svm

You need to be confident with the car sideways though. It will be like that quite a lot of the time, but you can learn to exploit it.

Guy's, many thanks. I found the 250 very understeery so perhaps it just the skill I'm lacking

I will study the setups at my leisure.

I'm sure Legzy will try to include the 250 in some future events

EDIT: Both setups now taken, thanks
