(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=227)
(5) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(6) Remember that P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function, but our gentleman's agreement is that everyone will stick to a speed limit for the pit-lane of 40mph/60kph.

As requested by a few people over various threads... use of the slower cars, familiar track & the possibility of rain 8)

Weather: Changeable (seeded from real-world conditions.)
For anyone that's not sure what that means... there is a thread somewhere explaining it properly... (I just can't find it :-[)
Basically, the race will start with the same weather conditions that Donington was enjoying at about 7pm. The race & weather will then develop as PnG sees fit. (hope that makes sense ;D)

Nope!

Sometimes it hails, snows or is foggy.  ::)

I just cannot see the point in racing these cars. Most of them don't really want to turn in but they also they understeer on the power. Dull, dull dull  :(

The abarth Gr5 is the only one that feels in any way fun, but to be honest is probably too quick for this bunch. I managed to get the cortina to oversteer with some extreme setup changes, which might end up being fun, but the rest are awful. The 970 mini and the gr2 abarth are totally outclassed, as I guess are the slower jags. The 4.2 might keep up but handles like a supertanker.

Anyway, as you might have guessed, I'll be sitting this one out. hope you all have fun  :)

The Mini 1275 is a great little car and can compete with the Abarth. The 4.2 Jag can also compete if the track layout has long straights and fewer twisty bits. The little Alpine is nimble little ankle biter and can carve up the twisties. Without testing each of the cars on track, my gut feeling tells me it will be another close bunch like last race.

Cheer up or you'll be forced to join Team Oldie! :P

The abarth Gr5 is... probably too quick for this bunch.
Wrong ;D.
I do expect it to be the "popular" choice, but it should not be in a league of its own. Like Mike said, the 1275 Mini will defo compete with it, while BOTH the Jag MK2's should have enough straight line to annoy stay ahead of the more nimble cars. The Alpine & Tina are also right there.

The 970 mini and the gr2 Abarth are totally outclassed, as I guess are the slower jags. (EDIT) is the Jag MK1
If you pick, one of those three cars... then good luck to ya. Common sense will surely steer people towards their big brother versions ;)
But being able to pick just a single group of cars like this, means that we can't have a repeat of Tuesday night (someone in the wrong car... no names... D*n ;)).

my gut feeling tells me it will be another close bunch like last race.
That's the spirit Mike. 8)
My intention was to run the GR2 cars here, but the range in ability of that group would just be stupid (don't tell FIA or MJ that I said that) :o. Ignore the slower mini/abarth/Jag out of this group & they should be pretty even (fingers crossed).

My weapon of choice here is the 3.4 Jag.  Not because I think it does anything that Paul hasn't already listed but because my dad had a 3.4MkI and in fact gave me my first driving leason in it.  I was about 13 and had just finished racing at a kart meeting at Blackbushe.  Naturally I left two black lines across the airfield.  He then explained that a racing start had not been expected and that it was permitted, in a road car, to change up before the engine peaked in each gear.

Sadly I will not be able to make it on Tuesday as the entertainments committee are dragging me off to a Christmas do!

This evening my best time in the 3.4MkI was 1:31.720, before I found out that I was other wise occupied.   :(

Have fun..........sniff

Some cars are missing from the server and others not in the selection are included. There should be a way to limit the selection to the Power & Glory Challenge 4 group only.

had a few laps in some cars
1:29.7 in Jag MKII 4.2
1:34.5 in Tina GT
1:30.2 in Arbarth Gr5

Am unable to try the 1100 Renault as the game crashes if I try to join with any of them.

If you get a chance, if you're online with anybody else... ask them to try the Alpine, to see if others having it makes you crash too.
Also, have you tried the Alpine 1100 offline?

Overwrite Gamedata/Teams/Power & Glory/GT under 2 liter/Renault Alpine A110 with this

Works off line ok, managed 34.5 in it, so it's not for me, I will likely be using the 4,2 Jag, Arbarth gr5 or maybe the Mini
if I can get the hang of it.
Humyo would not let me D/L mutliple files, and one a time was too tedious, but thanks for the effort Tony.
I'll shout if I get booted when people join with it

EDIT: Goldie in the Alpine joined while I was on line, and no probs.

Only 2 laps with each of them.

Alpine 1100 - 1.31
Cortina GT - 1.32
Mini 1275 - 1.31
Jaguar MKII 4.2 - 1.29  ;D

That is mighty quick in the Mini Ade. Maybe I should do more work on that car. I'm in the 27's with the Jag. It looks like the cars will be very competitive again this round.

1:29's in the Alpine.
1:31's in the Cortina.

I would say that's comfortably 28's & 30's for quicker drivers like Ade/Mike.

Finally got some late laps in last night.

1:32 in the tina GT for me. I might be able to scrape into the 31's with it but seems hopelessly outclassed by the 1275gt here  :( wouldnt it be advisable to use the Lotus Cortinas considering the pace of some of the other cars in this group?..or does that make it too powerful for rest?
It would be a real shame to not have a good spread of the tinas in the field as they are brilliant fun to drive around Doni and would make the British clubmens grid look great.

Not sure who here said the tinas were understeery but you must be using the default setup. Ive got the original P&G1 setup for the tina to make it drive Jim Clark (3 wheels around corners) stylee, bags of fun here. Can pm it to anyone who wants it.

I am more a fan of the GT cars but these touring cars do come into their own for the classic British clubmens track and would make a great little series using places like Cadwell, Doni, Brands, Crystal palace etc with a little bit of mixed weather in the mix  8)

Looks like the grid will consist of Jags, Abarths and 1275 Minis. It's a pity about the tina GT being off pace, because personally I enjoy driving that car. On the other hand I think the Lotus will eat the field judging by the few laps I've driven.

The 970 Mini and the GT tina should be close fun racing should a few decide to forget any chances of a pody. I'm up for the 970 if anyone else fancies it ;)

Yup, that's what I found. The ford version is closer.

Spot on MJ, Tina felt quite decent drive to me.
With regards the Alpine A110, if anyone tried it & thought it a little lacking... make the following changes to start bringing it to life:
Front Ride Height = Ruduce to the minimum 12cm (from 16cm)
Rear Ride Height = Increase by one click 12.5cm (from 12cm)
Front Camber = Increase to maximum negative number -1.0deg (from 0.0deg)
Front Toe = Change to 0.00deg (from 0.20deg)
Rear Toe = Change to 0.00deg (from 0.40deg)
Front ARB = Increase to the maximum 2.20cm (from 2.00)
Front Springs = Increase a click to 50n (from 40)
Front Slow Rebound = Reduce to 1 (from 3)
Rear Slow Bump = Increase to 3 (from 1)
Rear Slow Rebound = Increase to 2 (from 1)
Gear Ratio = Reduce to shortest gear ratio (8/33)

Think that was about it... I thought it was a good fun drive. Gutted I'm out tomorrow :(

I don't have snow tires ;) as an option in my Jag. I've raced in the snow for real at VIR (Virgina International Raceway). It was interesting to say the least. No snow stuck to the ground, but the track was wet and cold. Can GTR2 simulate conditions like this (cold and wet/damp)?

Sorry about the misunderstanding MJ... to clear it up, PnG will be on Thursday's starting in 2010

On a plus note, I have just had my plans for the night cancelled & so I'll be able to race here now ;D ;D ;D

Can GTR2 simulate conditions like this (cold and wet/damp)?
yes, within reason. We can't recreate snow/ice for you... but some tracks are designed as snowy for example (try downloading "Winter Dragon" if you want a giggle ;)).

I've tried Winter Dragon. That is a nightmare track. I was half tempted to memorize it and take a stab at a hot lap. It is a little over the top though. Another winter track is the latest Bull Run. It also set in the mountains with snow/ice runoff. This however is a cool track that can be very competitive with online racing. It is very high speed and very wide with some banked turns. Check it out one of these days.

Work and kids keep getting in the way of my fun. I may not be able to make it again today. The time zone difference makes it tough for me. I'll try again the next time around. I was really looking forward to this event because the preliminary testing proved the 4.2 Jag, 1275 Mini and Group5 Abarth to be very competitive and close.

really enjoyed that tonight, had some good close scrapping.

I'd be interested in everyone's thoughts on seeing these cars more often please?
I certainly think that the Abarth/Mini/Jag/Alpine are very close. There are a couple of other "slower car combo's" I think we should try out too... on similar type tracks.

It's my favourite combo (Matt ducks from all the flying bottles and cans) as long as (as MJ said) that it is at "suitable" tracks
Donny works, Brands probly would some of the tighter American tracks like Sears Point would be good.
For the faster tracks then the GT cars are much better of course.

Good race tonight managed to not completely fall off anywhere, almost got caught by API on the next to last
as I went wide in the old hairpin, who was very polite not to try anything hazardous  :)

There are plenty of tracks with nice layouts for these underpowered cars.
There are several 2 to 3 kilometers Australian tracks, can remember also Knockhill, Albi 67,
Westwood 88.

I found these cars very enjoyable to race. Cortina GT will match better perhaps with Abarth GR2,
Healey MKI and MKII, Jaguar MKII 3.4 and Lotus Elite, I guess.

Bring more races like this one please.  ;)

Really good fun tonight chasing Mike in his supertanker Jag. Never quite got a good lap in qual (had a 26.7 on race fuel in the practice session) but luckily pipped Ade by a thousandth  :o to get pole. This was all rather academic though when Mike blasted past into T1. He then proceeded to frustrate me for the following 26 laps, putting his car exactly where I needed it not to be to get a decent run for a pass - great driving  :thumbup1:. I was quicker right from the start but could not make it count as every passing place had a long straight just after, where he just cruised back in front. As we got near the end I had a good chance out of mcleans, but I got it sideways and had to take to the grass, letting Ade through (who had been stalking us from a distance for the whole race). By then the rear tyres were making the handling 'interesting', but once I settled down I got back to Ade and managed a pass on the inside into Mcleans. I even had a chance on the last lap to get past Mike as a backmarker forced him offline a bit, but he had a big slide mid corner at the old hairpin and I had to back off completely to avoid a spin, so I finished 2nd. Grats to Mike for controlling the evil Jag so well, and to Ade for a good 3rd.

I enjoyed the race a lot for the intensity, but the novelty would soon wear off I think. For the odd race it is OK, but I don't think it works that well when the cars are so mismatched on power (the jag has nearly 3 times the power of the abarth and significantly more than 2 times the power off all the others but is less than twice the weight). Over a lap there is not much in it, but in a race the power difference is so great that any straight nullifies the slower cars advantage, and the jag can then 'park' in the middle of the corner to prevent the lighter car from using its extra grip.

The only cars I would want to drive from this bunch are the abarths and the cortina. Personally I feel that PnG is at its best with the more powerful cars, although PnG 3 when it arrives may change that. Most of the cars understeer too much - I've watched Minis racing and they seem a lot more tail happy than the ones we use. Hats off to Ade btw for getting the Mini into the 26s - no idea how you do it!

I was able to avoid the pileups in the first couple of turns and was around 12th in lap 2 when I had to give up due to suspension problems. Reason for this was that the anti-virus software decided to update and PnG went to the task bar in the middle of Coppice Corner.  >:(
I went straight into the tire wall. When I had killed the update and came back to the race the car was a smoking pile. I decide to watch the race but hat a ctd and that was it.
But I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 or 3 minutes I had in this race  ;D

I can't tell you how pleased I am to see three different cars in the Top 3 & then positions 4 to 6 are all rotated too! 8) 8) 8) I'm gutted though, because I should have been 6th with my Alpine, which could have demonstrated even more the balance of these cars. I somehow stupidly span myself to the inside of McLeans ??? & lost about 14 seconds recovering, which let the fighting Dan & Jose through.
I was able to catch them fairly quickly & even got past one of them a couple of times... but hadn't managed to stay in-front. Was a shame that I got a bit tangled going through the hairpin before the S/F straight to start the last lap, as the three of us could have traded a lot more paint on that lap ;D  :-[ ;)
Had a good 1st half to the race also, as I tried hanging onto Tibs & the front runners.

That little Alpine has very good brakes & needs to can carry some serious speed through corners! I would be more then happy to drive that 'bad boy' again against the cars in this line up.

I would be interested in one of the faster drivers, trying out the "Healey MK1" here for me please? I reckon that it should also fit into this group quite well, should certainly compete with Abarth? :-\

p.s. Well done to Mike for managing to join us at the last minute & Eddie for making his return. Finally a big thanks to PR for taking the Ford Cortina out & a big well done to GoldTop for finding good pace in the lesser Mini.

I know what you mean - I use to have that problem.  Found I'd curred it when I upgraded to a multi cpu processor.

I was planning on taking the Alpine last night, but I got a CTD everytime I tried to join, so went back to the Abarf.

I got a great start & made up a few places, but PR gave me a little tap at the old hairpin just as I was turning in, thanks for waiting mate!  :-*

At the chicane Bill gave me a real scare he appeared from nowhere and I turned into him sending him into a Mini. Sorry Bill wasn't expecting that!  :o

After that I had a few laps racing PR, eventually passed after he had a little wobble coming out of the old hairpin, and then tried to reel in Goldtop, without any success. I got within a couple of secs after I got into 1:29's mid race but I got sloppy and soon fell back.

I enjoyed the race, and thought the cars were well matched. I've not driven these cars for ages, they definately reward consistent & smooth driving. Lets keep these cars for the odd race or two, on short twisty tracks.

A group of guys have begun testing at Race 2 Play for the next season. The MkI Healy and others are being tested at Crystal Palace along with the big beasts at Riverside. I haven't done much testing yet, but many others have. You can review the Healy results there. The slower car results start appearing on page 4. http://www.nasasimracing.com/homepage/show_posts/15098

It was a bit of a hectic night for me. I snuck in at the last minute to put in 1 good quali lap out of 3 flying attempts to get me 3rd on the grid. I appologize for the chat during quali when I came. I didn't realize how late it was. Like Paul said earlier, this grid spot was good enough for me to use the RWD launch get off the line in front of Ade and I had enough juice to pip Paul into T1. He fought pretty hard the first few turns knowing it would be a struggle if I got in front. Once I got past the first few turns, all I had to do was hit my marks and victory would be likely. Paul described the race perfectly. The Jag had just enough pace and more than enough power to keep the ankle biter cars at bay. He is right using the term 'parking' it in the turns and then shooting away on the straights.

Originally, I was planning to use the Mini, but looking at the track layout and power differences, I went out in the Jag first to set a baseline and to see what my competition might be driving. I think Paul was out there with me that 1st practice session. He in the Abarth and me in the Jag. When I saw the difference in straight line speed I knew the Jag was the car to beat here. I proceeded to work on a setup that allowed me to carry more corner speed and get my laptimes within striking distance of his. From there, the power of the Jag would help me get past on the long straight if the opportunity presents itself or prevent a smaller car from getting past. It was tougher to pass the smaller cars than I originally expected, but nontheless, it was possible. It wasn't really possible for the small cars to get past the Jag unless a big mistake was made. This is why I chose the Jag for this course. On a short twisty course without a long straight (say Crystal Palace), the Jag would be eaten alive.

Thanks for the race guys. I enjoyed it. Congrats to Paul and Ade for their podium finishes and quick pace.

That's OK, a pity but that's life.   It was one of the few places I felt confident about braking late for and I slipped down the inside.  i know what it's like with blind spots, that's why I decided to go for a wide screen monitor to get better all around vision.  :thumbup1:

After that I had a battle with Tony for a couple of laps before he took too much kerb/accelerated too early at Mcleans and shot across my bows.  ??? Then I caught up with jpv and had a battle with him for a while.  :fencing: His front tyres started to wear and I was able to pass him down the  inside at Redgate, I think he re-passed me a couple of times particularly into Redgate but then scrabbled for grip whilst I drove past on the inside.  I gradually drew away and saw in my mirror he was having trouble also at the old chicane.  I drew away slowly and eventually saw him in the pits.  I had a steady drive through to the finish setting my fastest lap on lap 19.   Had a scary moment with Legzy I move to the left in the chicane which was the side he'd decided to overtake me on  ::) but we got sorted out in the end.  ;D

HI all,
Overall I was very happy with my performance. :D I Quallied in 9th, which I was not expecting. All that practice must be paying off :) I was well chuffed at getting 1.29 in qually.

The race start was a bit hectic, coming to turn 1 everyone was bunched right up. I managed to keep mostly out of the way but had some side contact with at least 1 other. By turn 4, I had been well and truly "mugged" and was last all but 1.

From there I had a great drive. I felt really at home in the abarth. I slowly worked my way through the field as they fell off one by one. Eventually I was up into 11th just behind 57Goldtop. I trailed him for a few laps and eventually was able to pass. I had'nt realised you were in the slower of the mini's, even so I was well chuffed that I caught someone and passed them, without them falling off! :) :D

Really enjoyable to race, lovely to drive the abarth, I could have done another 26 laps and still be grinning :)

Cheers all,
          Bully :gun_bandana:

Well I've had a go in the Healey MK1 & could do a 1:30... after not too much time, so about the right pace for that group. I'm sure there would be plenty more in her.
I found it a bit of a tricky customer, so maybe one for the more skilled then me :-\.

looks like you all had fun as expected, shame i missed it  :'(

where do the alfas fit into this group? doesnt the slowest of the bunch fit okay-ish? Also seems a real shame to not have the tinas in the mix, though perhaps they would fare better at a twistier track  :-\
Be good to see the Healey in there too as it seems a forgotten car in its current guise.

But dont make it 'too much' of a habit using these cars  ;) GT is where its at  8)

I seem to remember Mondello Park was another good one for the slower car groups ?

After finishing 2009 in the beasts at Le Mans... I'm looking at the 'next group up' (speed wise), as the 1st PnG race of 2010.
That group includes cars like: Alpha Junior / Alpine 1300 / Healey MK2 / Lotus Cortina's / TR4 / Lotus Elite.

They seem very evenly paced so far on the kind of tracks I'm looking at.

Don't worry MJ, GT's wont be forgotten ;)
