We could do something like the above. It is a tad complicated, but people should be able to edit the table by copying the code section underneath and then posting their own table. They then need to copy the table code and wrap it in a code section underneath so that others can do the same.

I can't race (not here) but would like to mess around with this bit.

Title: Re: Le Mans timing board for Christmas Special
Post by: Paul968 on December 22, 2009, 12:46:38 PM +0000
That bit is fairly easy - just copy the first row, paste it after the last row in the table,  add you name in the first col and replace the car names with your times.

Post by: Paul968 on December 22, 2009, 12:51:02 PM +0000
Alternatively, I could just hand edit the table. Perhaps that is easier  ::)

I had wanted to let others edit the table because I'm not around for much of crimbo and people will be posting then, but perhaps someone else can take over then.

I'll do it Matt, at least up to Christmas eve. If people could repost their times here though it would help.

5:23 in the Healey although that was a very conservative lap. I tried a bit harder on the next lap and fell off. ::) Letting GT40s past anywhere around the Mulsanne Kink is likely to be... interesting... :o

Healey MK11 - 34
5:05.8
Healey MK1 - 61
5:13.5

The MK11 is lighter with more power, but bounces off the limiter at 135/136mph in 4th
The MK1 with it's 6!!!!!!! gears!!!! accelerates slower, but hits 137..

That's err a closing speed of 65mph for MJ approaching already has passed Dave.

Probably the first and last bit of practice I'll have time for before 30th, reasonably happy with the car and knowing which corners go which direction, so my best has now dropped to 4:39.3. Even on 26" monitor it's still hard to pick out the braking boards on the fastest bit thoughs. :o

No idea about tyres though, do they last for hour long stints as the fuel guage tells me I only need to stop 2.2 times? I notice there are two types of slicks, I guess soft and hard, but no idea which is which. I just have on the default ones.

I'm half tempted to go the full monty on this race and disable auto-clutch, auto-blip and sequential shifting, go back to H-pattern and a manual clutch. It's either going to keep it interesting or be really annoying and which I hadn't done it.

Simon, you have two tyre types available to you.

CR65 184's are rated medium wear, all weather/dry tyres.

CR65 970's are rated soft wear, all weather/wet tyres.

Only Historic tyres as per tyre manual ie treaded just different componds and tread depth/pattern? No modern intermediate or wet tyres.

Managed a 4:01.001 chasing Matt's 4:00.6xx this afternoon but on my next lap, when 0.4s up on my best lap, I suffered a screen freeze between Indianapolis and Arnage.

I've taken the side panel off the pc in case it's the graphics card is over heating.  Bit of a worry for Wednesday.  :(

5:17 now, but never really got a proper lap in because I spent a lot of the time trying to fix the annoying flickering textures when the lights were on. Not a show stopper but it's a good job I don't have epilepsy!

Would that be a nVidia graphics card? There's a fix somewhere. Let me know if it is and I'll spend some time looking for it.

Yep, nVidia. The README says something about CAM files and clipPlanes without any usable detail but Google is unable to find anything more practical.

I had the road flashing at me with my old gfx card until Legzy suggested that I try DirectX8 instead of 9 to solve my fps problems.

It stopped the flashing track and I have never bothered going back to DirectX9.

PS  I see Legzy hasn't broken cover yet.  Last night's practice must have been really bad. Probably the pressure getting to him.  ;D

After trying in both XL and Win 7 on line last night I've come to the conclusion that P&G runs smoother and at a much higher frame rate in XP than Win 7.  In Win 7 I can not accelerate as early as in XL without twitching and the max frame rate around the Mulsanne Kink is about 140 fps in Win 7 compared to 190 fps in XL.  However on Mike's wet track these frame rates come down considerably.

whoohoo, new pb for me 4:01.305  8) took a couple of secs off my pb now that my brakes are sorted. Now i can chase the faster guys better  :)
Had a 4:00 on the cards but i am still a bit too sloppy through those final tricky chicanes.

Could this be due to your Graphics card not having the latest drivers for Win 7? Just a guess.

Title: Re: Le Mans timing board for Christmas Special
Post by: BillThomas on December 28, 2009, 07:17:17 PM +0000
No all the latest drivers were installed with Win 7.  My theory is our Sims were designed to use with XP - as was 3DMark 06 and are therefore optimised for that environment.  To use them in Win 7 requires some "overhead" which slows down their operation - noticed delays in loading various P&G overlays compared to XP.

Finally got some practise. On line 4.07 and off line 4.05 in GT40 MkII.

My headlights are not penetrating the shadows though. New GFX driver did not help. Medium shadows it is then.

When we did the Super Endurance a few seasons ago we discovered that GTR2 ignores any fuel amounts that you set past stop 1. So, no matter what fuel you set to take on for stop 2 and on wards, the amount will be ignored. You will always be given the fuel amount that you set for stop1.

I am not sure if the P&G crew have changed this. The best way to get around this is to use XD version 2 so that you can change the fuel amount as you are driving on track.
