Watkins Glen International ("The Glen") is an auto race track located near Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for 20 consecutive years (1961–1980). In the early years races passed through the heart of the town with spectators lining the sidewalks, but after a car left the road in a 1952 race, killing one spectator and injuring several others, the race was moved to a new location on a wooded hilltop southwest of town. Later a permanent race course was constructed on 550 acres, overlapping part of the previous course. Despite improvements, the circuit became unable to safely handle the increasingly faster and stiffer ground effect cars of the late 70s and a few horrendous, sometimes fatal accidents and increasingly rowdy segments of the crowd began to tarnish its image. Finally, in May, 1981, several months after Alan Jones had won the 1980 race for Williams, the International Auto Sports Federation removed the race from its schedule because the track had failed to pay its debts to the teams.

Another enjoyable outing  ;D. Arrived rather late, expecting to race at Nivelles only to find that it's been cancelled. So, a quick download of the Snow Glen followed and I joined with about 20 mins to go. I somehow managed to coax the BRM to Pole and enjoyed a great little battle with B Whitwell for most of the race, till he spun at the Big Bend leaving me to drive my own race to the end. Pleased with another win, and that was probably my last for a short while. Time to start studying again; I may make the effort to join the start of S19, or if failing that, join during the summer. I'm sure you've all had enough of me for now anyway ;).

Good drive Sam, well done.

A nice drive to a lucky 6th for me.  Dean was recovering well in the closing stages to get past me with a couple of laps left but threw the hard work away spinning at the loop.  Some good clean driving by Dean who was obviously quicker than me but didn't take any risks to dive past and waited until he could ensure a clean pass.  Nice to see.

I couldn't quite get passed Al, was comfortable matching his pace sitting in the tow but wasn't noticeably faster anywhere to make a move.  Nice driving again.

Good fun race.  Thanks for organising it Tim (Vos)

Congratulations to Sam & the podium. Drove my nuts off in a race-long scrap with Steve so was a little surprised to find I'd only managed the 14th fastest race lap. Me & Steve did manage 1st & 2nd in laptime consistency though so that helped elevate us up the field for 5th & 6th. I didn't have the speed to pull away from him so just concentrated on trying not to make any mistakes - no mistakes from Steve either so there was nothing between us at the flag. Thanks to Tim for organising it (and apologies for the swerve on L1 - was trying to avoid a warping car ahead :-\ ) Very timely event - as soon as the race finished it started snowing outside my window.

Grats Sam, another demonstration drive!!!

As this was a fun drive I exchanged my usual fundoshi for a bouffant hair style and a pair of scissors ::) and cranked up the Ferrari for a first ever outing.

Starting from the default setup, I jumped upon Nicky's server that was running just prior to the "fun race" and the Glutbuckets started tweaking things.
I quite quickly found that the Ferrari is does not handle like a Wazamobile and that Arnold's delicate adjustments with his 4kg hammer had not improved things much!! I took his hammer away and told him to use more sophisticated and scientific methods.. so he went to the back of the pits and returned with a 2 mtr scaffold pole and set about the suspension settings.

The result was a setup that "worked" in so far as it would accelerate more or less in a straight line and would allow me to at least control a slide, something that was to prove invaluable later  ::)

The fun race was great with a full grid and lots of swapping of positions on the first few laps and I just managed to hang on to the leading group whilst I got used to the Glutbucket's novel setup.
As the race went on a few cars ran wide until about mid-way when I think a lot of us experienced some very bad warpage. At times all cars would vanish from the track and prib for several seconds and one had to just hope that they were still going as fast and in the same direction as when last seen until they re-materialised :o

One such warp occurred as a I was following Fulvio towards Big Bend when he re-appeared I was almost up his exhaust pipes and although I registered no contact I think warp punted him off... sry Fulvio as that was shaping up to be a good scrap. Nicky was next up the road in 3rd place and eventually he made a mistake and took the "extra" wide line through the Loop.. not recommended as the snow was very deep out there.
Mr Whitwell was next ( new name to me, are we to see more of this gentleman in UKGPL??) who was in 2nd spot and appeared to be recovering from a "moment" when I caught him. It was about this point that the limitations of the setup showed themselves in overheated tyres which provoked even more sideways action at every corner and lost me some time meaning that I had to settle for 3rd...still not too bad for an apprentice hairdresser?? ::)

Grats Sam :). It was a fun race all in all although I think I did somewhat poor performance due to the usual race adrenaline. Big Bend L1 I almost go out . I brake early cause I think Dolans Ferrari will dive on my inside. when he doesn t I think he might hit my rear and I think someone else might dive on the inside. The result of all my thinking instead of just take the turn as usual is that I go so wide I almost roll off.Just lost two places and the rest off the race was ok xpt a server issue that made me clash with Policardi. He went off I stayed on track. Got passed several times but never deared make a passing move on anyone else. Qualed 3 d and ended not futher down than 4 th since I passed some offtrack cars. Not too bad after all and I did enjoy although I felt a bit seasick watching Evils experimental Fezza from behind several laps.
