Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=227)
(5) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(6) Remember that P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function, but our gentleman's agreement is that everyone will stick to a speed limit for the pit-lane of 40mph/60kph.

Right... some of us might not be familiar with this track, so I've selected the shorter "North" version for this fun race & we'll use the full track later on in S2, so a good opportunity to learn half the track right here :)

The other question in my mind was the inclusion of the Mustang. It seems the slowest of the big big beasts, but I'm concerned that it may still have too much of an edge over the rest here :-\. If general consensus is it's too fast(?), I'll remove it from the list.

This circuit couldn't be a bigger contrast to the l o n g straights of Le Mans  ;D

Don't know if I can make Thursday but can't wait to have a go at T1 in these beasts.  In GPL it's a complete bar steward!

That's gonna be the first race of the new year for me! I won't miss it surely, and probably I'll race with some VDA friends... I have to test the new VDA army for P&G season 2  :P
About car choice, I think that the Alpine is a bit more stronger than the other listed cars in my experience of P&G, but I don't know this circuit at all... I'll give it a try with the Alfa Junior... or the TR4 I think...
I'll post some laptimes soon!
Cu :)

After approx 10-15 laps in each, with race fuel:

Elite 1:23.6
Cortina Mann 1:21.9
Cortina Works 1:23.7
Alfa Junior 1:24.0
Alpine 1:19.0

The Alpine is in a class of 1 here.

I'll be taking the Cortina Mann :)

1:19!!!! Did you find a short cut? ??? ;)
I expected the Alpine to be 2nd behind the Stang... But currently it's the Alpine looking too fast for the group  :-\

Certainly the Alpine will be the cats meow in this group. It is by far the top car in the lineup available at the R2P slow cars. We run 2X fuel there and not only is it fast, it sips fuel. It will likely be dropped over there. I'm going to drive the Mustang. I like to find ways to get the big cars to fly. Don't get stuck behind me Paul.

I've been on the practice server with Lazlow tonight & it's obvious now that the Alpine is just too quick for the rest, so I've amended the 1st post dropping the Alpine from the available choices.

On a plus note, we also found that the Abarth Gr5 & Mini 1275 are nicely on pace here with 1:22's after only a few laps... So I've added those & the Jag Mk2 (the fastest cars from the recent Donington race).

Cheers
Chris
p.s. It would be great to know what practice lap-times Mike & Matt particularly, can get out of that Jag they took at Donni, here? ;D

Hi lentolo and welcome,

I'm sure you are not being ignored.  It's just that all the admin types are busy trying to improve their Spa times for tonight's GTR2 race.  ::)

Once they have crashed out of tonight's race I'm sure you will get a proper response.

Why not frighten us with your lap times whilst you are waiting?  ;D

Cheers

TR4:            1:20.9
Stang:          1:23.4
Alfa Jun:       1:20.9
Tina Mann:    1:23.0
JagMKII 4.2:  1:26.2 (is horrible, and cooks the left tyres with no long straights to cool them on)
Lightning Bug 1:23.1 (Arbarth)

Alpine 1300: 1:20.2
JagMKII 4.2: 126.2 (is horrible, and cooks the left tyres with no long straights to cool them on)
Thanks for checking the Jag out Matt, I thought it was horrible at Donni & was shocked/impressed what you two could get out of it!

Remember that the Alpine is no longer a valid car choice for this race chaps, but the Abarth & Mini have been added. :)

The Jag doesn't work here. There isn't enough of a straight to take advantage of the power. I couldn't get better than 1:25.6. The mustang is similar but I found a way to possibly make it work.

Just few impressions on the cars I've tried during today's long practice session with Mike miller and lentolo:

Alfa junior: best lap 1.20.0xx It's the funniest and fastest car in my opinion. In less than 10 laps I was very close to brake the 1.20 wall... No troubles of tyre warming and low fuel cunsumption! Race pace with a good setup will be near the 1.20.5 easily.

Abarth 1000 Gr5:  best lap 1.20.033 It's another fantastic car to drive here... In the first sector it's amazing... Unfortunately after 5-6 laps I've got some troubles with the rear left tyres, that even without forcing so much become a real Firestone... even if I'm using the GoodYear ;D ;D

Triump TR4: About that car I can only say that... It's better if i don't say nothing  ;D best lap of 1.22.0 after 3 laps, but I'll never drive again that car... 5 gears, but the gear ratios is... rather special... trying to be kind in this judjement :)

I didn't try the american beast yet, but Mike did it, and he was very close to my pace with the Abarth, maybe a bit more constant when my rear left started to create some troubles to mine little abarth after some laps...  Probably the beast will have more trouble trying to pass the alfa junior... that's sure!

All these words to say that Alfas, abarth and Stang, are really near in race pace... that's it!
Triumph and Jags seems rubbish here!

Raced here earlier this year with my Sunday Morn Antipodean Colleagues - 3 x 12 laps with 3 different GTC-65 (GTL) cars.  Elan, Elite and the A Healey.  Keeping it on the black stuff was difficult I recall.

Ahh the smell of the Big Squealy as it rumbles round the track, cough 3 secs slower than the TR4 that Manteos so adores.

Tried it, I can't get under 25 in it, maybe pastie power will move it in ways we mortals cannot...

It was a lucky lap ;D

Joking aside, try with the longer final... it will help you to get more than 60 km/h with 2nd gear :)
With a perfect setup, and a crazy lap I think that a 1.20 high it's possble even with that "car"... but not with me as a driver :)

ok maybe "pasty" as in "Cornish"

And strangely I am doing exactly the same times in TR4 and Alfa, though I think Alfa is potentially quicker

Nice to see so many faces on server late this evening.
Had a little spin in the Elite myself... quite nice once I raised the rear ride height & removed a little coast (& front toe) to get the back end to start coming round a bit quicker ;D.
Did a few 1:22's so far but am sure even I could get it comfortably in the 21's race pace. :detective:

1:22's for me too in the Cortina Mann. Contstantly flashed up as fastest lap time in the first sector but kept losing time in the 2nd so definitely have 1:21's in me with more lappage.

1:25 in the Healey but hadnt done many laps when i tried that, and was getting familiar with the car,so would hope to go quicker next time.

Will try out the sexy Elite and TR4 too.

Great time you did in the TR4 Matt.  Have you done something clever with the setup to get it through T1 a bit less like a three legged camel?

I went straight from a 65GPL race on the full circuit to the TR4 on the North circuit so I probably still had too much GPL in me but managed a low 22.  Not too sure where the next 1.5 seconds come from unless it is T1.

Can't remember quite what I did to the setup. It's my usual low diff/stiff front ARB sort of thing, oh and after
a while I realised it had 5 gears, (insert laughter from Goldie here)  so set gears to lowest.
IMHO where I found time in it was the last section, particularly 3rd to last, the tight left over the brow, was important to get over the brow while braking, with lock, and then hit the power immediately or it runs wide and wastes time
Patience is definately a virtue for the last right hander over that final brow, that for me was very "slower is faster"
If you remember I passed up the inside there at least once, can't remember if it was you or not now...
The online setup thing seems broken,  I will email the setup FWIW if I have an address.

I was losing time at the 2nd of the double right-hander by the cones, getting bogged down... again, slower was faster there too ;)

I'll be on the server tonight from about 9:30pm to try out some of the other cars if anyone wants to join?

good fun on late server again this eve with several regulars on there. Matt and Goldtop seem to live on the server!...single i take it?  ;)

1:22.2 in the Elite, tasty little car. Two penultimate corners are hurting me whatever car, the one under the bridge and the 2nd to last over the hump and tight right.

Once i crack those two corners, would hope to be in regular 1:21's. Anyone doing 1:20's should take a slower car  ;)

Keen on the Healey but can't push it below 22 and the way it takes off in T1 doesn't make for the most comfortable of rides. Now the Mustang is a totally different proposition  :)

Track is good fun but I wonder how easy close racing will be, especially Elite vs Mustang  :o Look forward to finding out.

Surprised at how much fun the Elite is. Was set on the tina, but doesn't seem to be much between them for me. Reckon the Elite/stang battle will be very good fun especially as i'm neeeeeaaaaaaaaarly as quick as the grey leader for once.

At the risk of an expensive divorce, i hope to be giving it some more revs late tomorrow ;)

been wondering that too, its a bit Lime-rock in character here and if someone bins in the fast downhill sections it could be utter chaos, especially at the deep braking zone in the curve at the foot of the hill  :o
Stang will be like an armoured knight with all the little elites, abarths and Tr4s bouncing off it !

With all you good folk in the 21s I may have to ditch the TR4 and look for the other second with another set of wheels.

I've been busy with the stopwatch again and comparing my lap with a 21.4 of Matt's I'm standardly slow on most of the lap but then manage to really make a mess of the last 180Right just over the crest.

By heck  :o
Honoured I am to be selected for such scrutiny (I assume because our times are usually close
not because I am stunningly quick  ;) )
I am a huge exponent of the fast in slow out style that usually causes me to lose races
but here, as I said previously you (well "I") can't hurry love that sequence, I brake
much earlier than I want to, and try to hug the inside kerb, "if" I manage it, I can then get
a better run on to the finish line.

Hurrah, finally in the 21's in the Elite ..only for a few others to get into the 20's  ::)

Happy all the same, the car feels reasonably good tho that penultimate corner still slows me down.

Nice mix of cars in use too.  :)

I tried with every car except the Mustang, but it's a another car I really dislike... I hate understeer...
Even the Elite is fast, not as well as the Abarth-Stang-Alfa Junior trio, but the small Lotus have some chances to be more competitive than the Abarth after some laps when the rear left will start to burn...
However, I'll wait other people's choice and then try to have much fight as possible comparing the laptimes seen during these days.
Cu tomorrow for the race!

The stang will quali well and destroy its tyres after 10 laps. The Abarth is a little slower but far more consistent. These david and goliath match ups always get me excited  :)

Noticed that we all take different approaches to T1, especially in differing cars, so much care is needed. Mind you, I'm in the tank so come and have a go.

"If you fink you're 'ard enough?"

LOL

It doesn't seem to matter which car I use I'm as slow in all of them so will probably stay with Manteos' favourite, the TR4.

Managed a 22.2 last night but was slowest of the cars on the server.

Anybody in the 19s should be in a Mini and towing a Mustang.  ::)

Had some epic fun dicing with SBG in his tank last night. It was really funny putting the abarth in an awkward place in T1 so that he couldn't carry any speed - poor thing needed a cricket pitch to himself . The Abarth is so much fun to drive as well, although the rear gets rather lively once the tyres heat up. Should be interesting  :)

You're an Heretic!
Comparing the Glorious Alfa Spyder with that Triumph it's a real Sin!

Alfa-Ferrari-Lotus-Aston Martin are cars... Triumph is definitely not a car! It's enoguh to listen at the engine sound... what is that of Triump?!? It reminds me so much the sound of a mixer  ;D ;D Instead of gasoline Triumph probably need some "milk shake" in the tank  ;D

I'll use the sinister black job if you like.   ;D

You never know, black ones might be quicker.

There again, it might be fitted out as a hearse.

At least I got to qualify and run 1 lap before I got the call to retieve the kids. This time frame is tough for me, but at least I got to enjoy 30 minutes of driving with you guys. The kids can drive now so I'll have them take the car to school going forward when I don't work in the city. Nice work in the Mustang Ian. I couldn't get T1 down like I had it while practicing with Maetos.

What a great race :) Fast, close and clean from where I was sitting 8)

I was a Matt, Ade sandwich for most of it; able to close right up to Matt's TR4 in the tighter sections and braking zones, but with very few opportunities to get past. Towards the back end of the race Matt was having to brake earlier (tyres maybe?) and on the penultimate lap I was caught out by this on the top hairpin and locked up allowing Ade an easy pass.

I tried a do or die on the last lap down the outside of Ade's Mini in T1 but cooked it just a bit too much and went mowing. Very happy in the end with 7th (or was it 8th) and more than a bit nackered.

Congrats to Ian in the tank and the rest of the pody and finishers and thanks to Matt and Ade for some excellent fun.

... I had it while practicing with Maetos.
2 days ago I was Mentos, now it's change into Maetos... lol

Sorry you can't attend this one Mike after all that training... You'll surely have a lot of fun against Ian.

I really enjoyed this evening, so much fun in the Abarth vs Paul and Lentolo. After ten laps I had to cool down my rear left that reached 110° (Celsius). After bringing my tyre to a "normal" temperature I was able to keep my pace comfortably, and with a better understanding of the track I keep my tyres always under 100° and when the tank was getting empty it seemed easy driving that lovely Abarth!
Cu for the next fun guys! Bye!

I think I will have to put that one down as interesting!

Mugged off the line as usual, then these two Cortinas seemed to think that my TR4 could vanish.  I think that the Cortina on the outside gave the Mini a nudge because the next second it was stationary and sideways in front of me.  Then I got Bullied!

Nice pic Clive... I'm number 23 in it ;D

They say a pic paints a thousand words... well from that pic it looks like I have the inside of the turn & with a slight lead. I'm sure I'd have fought the Tina's understeer as best I could to stay as tight as possible... I hope . Also hope I didn't cause you grief :-\

I had a good 1st half battle with Tony (the other Tina in the pic) & then a good 2nd half battle with Geoffers (the mini in the pic ). I don't think we need say anymore then I won both battles :P :P ;D

Well done to SBG, good to see you back chap... (mental note, find a way to slow Ian down without Tokens  :-\ >:( ;))

Dead chuffed with the mixed grid tonight, well done all! :euro:

Had a brilliant race, all action from lights to flag  8)

Qually was very tough and was hoping to get in the top 10 but everyone upped their game again and i had to settle for 11th or 12th.
Got stuck in a brilliant 5 car battle for the opening 5-10laps with all of us swapping places. I got spat off the kerb on the downhill stretch and drop back for a lap or so but then re-caught the pack and joined the action once more.
Had a long duel with Blunder and API in their abarths with places swapped several times. Then API fell off and left me and Blunder to duel brilliantly, whilst all the time gaining on Tinman, right until the end with a gnats todger between us.  :fencing:
I held off the buzzing fly abarth for lap after lap of intense pressure and Blunder got by me with only 2-3 laps remaining for the 10th slot. But i kept up my own intense attack and he cracked on the final lap, running wide on the kerb after T1, allowing me to zip through and re-gain my hard fought 10th place.
Brilliant stuff, really enjoyed the fight Martin  :thumbup1:
Top 8 were in a league of their own, some 20+ secs ahead of the rest  :notworthy: dont know where you guys found the extra second every lap  ???
Great fun  :)

Most excellent race
Got a good start for a change, had to lift to avoid pushing Lento down the hill, but GT stayed wide so no worries
had the extreme pleasure of hounding Meltios ( ::)) in his Lightning bug for the 1st few laps.
The sound of my food blender over the noise of his spin dryer must have been domestic horror
GT managed to stay in touch for the whole race, sometimes I could pull out slightly, then he would zoom up
after the 1st downhill, but the Venerable TR4 with it's Ferguson tractor engine was just quick and wide enough in the turns to make passing very hard, and could romp away on the straights, top marks for patience in the face of
frustration there Goldtop. Ade had been dicing with GT at first but had fallen back, he then caught us up
My front left was into the browny red though it felt ok, I was probably having to be a bit cautious
I had not really got that top left under the bridge quite as right as I had been doing in practice sessions
sorry if I gave you a scare, well avoided in any case. Paul seemed to be struggling towards the end, if I had not been
having to keep a watching brief for the little cars buzzing around behind, I might have taken more of a fight to you
But may not have been quite fast enough to pass anyway.

Mr Cornwall was in a class on his own out front, well driven Ian

The Stang clearly had an quali advantage but the race I had hoped for never really materialised. Guess I gapped Paul, Manteos and Lentola whilst they were busy fighting each other at start and I luckily maintained that gap all the way through. Hope we see more POWER, and plenty of muscle to choose from  ;),  versus handling match ups amongst differing circuits throughout S2 :) The washing machines will get their revenge.

Lappees were excellent and good to hear so many had a good race as I enjoyed the track.

Jeebus, did I hear someone mention tokens.................  ;)

A poor race from me, it has been a busy week so I've not had a chance to practice, and it showed....

As I've not raced the Elite before I decided to give it that a go, although I never quite mastered turn 2 or the last turn.

I spent the first few laps racing Bully and Clive, but after a couple of silly spins after I pushed too hard ended up dead last and treated the race as some useful practice for the proper race.

I tried my best to stay out of everyone's way, spent a few laps at the end racing senior Dan who was a lap ahead of me.

Things can only get better......  :)

Great fun  :)

Morning all,
Wow what a race MJ, absolutely fantastic.
As with Tony I was gonna skip this one but really glad I didn't.
Started practicing at 5pm and nearly gave up on the whole thing by 7pm! ;)
Just couldn't get a reasonable laptime together.
Tried a few cars, hated them all and then went back to the Abarth and suddenly it clicked!
Would have done even better but a half spin at the last corner dropped me down a few places but it was good fun catching up!
Seemed to catch you really fast MJ, but once I did you found another gear and it was bumper to bumper all the way.
Loved it, that is what it is all about! Didn't care you pipped me at the post!! Was having too much fun!
Thanks all and obviously Legzy/Tony for a good choice of car / track.

Have been addicted to iRacing for the last few months, must remember not to forget the old classics!!  ;)

From 2nd lap untill the very last one I was racing completly alone.
The group in front of me was racing with a 5 seconds gap, while the one behind me
was in the 5 seconds gap and increasing from the mid race.
Therefore, it wasn't a very nice race, however it had it fun, trying to catch the guys ahead.

Congrats to SBG driving and win.
Well done to podium and to all finishers.
I don't enjoy myself short twisty tracks but have to get my hat off for the car selection
for this kind of track, was superb.  ;)

Cheers

Fun fun fun for most of the race, only spoiled by greed on my part near the end  ::)

Nicked a place off the grid to get past Lentolo and then took advantage of Manteos struggling with Mike to take 3rd at T3. Then had a great battle fending off Lentolo for several laps before I had the same thing with Manteos - brilliant  8) After a while I found a rhythm that let me ease away a bit, so much so that by 2/3rds distance I was looking more ahead, waiting for Ian's tyres to melt. I was pushing as hard as I possibly could to close the gap, and that is where it all went wrong I suppose. One minute everything was fine, the next my rears turned to marshmallows and I was facing backwards  :o Lost 2nd to Manteos and Lentolo nipped past too, although I got back ahead a few corners later. It didn't last though as I chucked it off at T1 next lap and had to settle for 4th - there was no way I could push the car in that state. I'm surprised at how sudden the change was, as the rear temps weren't stupid and wear wasn't that high. With hindsight I should have been more cautious like Manteos, but where's the fun in that eh?   Oh - and I was using the 184 tyres because that it what I practiced with. Saw people saying before the race that the 970s were softer but I've changed setup before in similar circumstances and really regretted it. Maybe I should have gone with 970s, but then again maybe they wouldn't have lasted as long?

Anyway, grats to Ian, who was in a different league in the tank, and to Manteos and Lentolo for some great racing and well deserved podiums. Loved the track, especially T1, as it really suited these cars.

Yo Paul! It's always fun to see 3 cars fighting in only 1.5 secs distance for 12-14 laps! It was an example of clean racing, due to the opponents fair play! P&G demonstrated again that it's built for close and fun racing!
Finally I understand who was the driver hid behind the name of Ian Curnow, and now I know is SBG, that explains to me a lot of things... You kept a great pace during all the race and really deserved the victory!
Many grats to lentolo for his first race here, with a great behaviour on the track, and a great defence against Paul & me for a lot of laps in single file!
Grats to all finishers, and thanks to Chris and Tony for organizing the event!
Cu soon!

Forgot to say sorry to Tim for a the slight tap near the end when I was lapping you. You seemed to brake a long way before the braking zone, so I assume you were either trying to let me past or to stop running out of road. Not much I could do as I wasn't expecting you to slow down anywhere near there, but sorry anyway.

No worries Paul, I could see you racing our Italian friends so I was trying to keep out wide and slow so you could take the inside line.

You didn't affect my race as I was running dead last at that point  :(
