All members welcome.

Track: Pukekohe V1.02 here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg81636#post_pukekohe) Warning, you must have this latest version loaded or you will get an error.
Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING

Practice: 19:20 (80 mins)
Qualifying: RANDOM GRID (We are not sure if we can do this so it's bit of a test)
Race: 20:40 48 laps (~55 mins)

Cars allowed: Lotus Elan, Austin Healey, E-Type Jag, 261kW AC Cobra

Server: UKGTL S9 Fun Race
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7).
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=210;theme=5)
(4) This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg109873#post_skins1800).

This track was due to be raced last season but owing to the lobby problems it was dropped. We think it deserves a chance so here it is.

Had a very quick blast (couple of laps each) and the Elan seems a little too quick in this company. Maybe the Cobra in the right hands can match it, but I'd be interested in seeing some other laptimes.

Elan 1:08ish

The rest 1:12ish

The Merc incidently seems to be around 1:12 too.

Thanks for the times GT. For comparison these are the times I managed.

Cobra 1:09
E-Type 1:09
Elan 1:10
Healey 1:11

Love this circuit though, It's like a mini Goodwood. The last two turns that lead onto the S/F straight are awesome.

Nice track choice Tony.

Had a quick blast round tonight:

Cobra 1.08
Elan 1.08
Jag 1.09
Healey 1.13

There seems to be a problem with this track in that any race run on it finishes after just over half way. e.g. race ends 11 laps into a 20 lapper, 3 laps into a 5 lapper, etc. Might be worth checking this out online before Tuesday.

Thanks for the heads-up Phil. As soon as I can get my missus off my desktop pc I'll check that out.

EDIT: The track on the server was an older version, which had a race length issue. I have now fixed that by installing the correct, latest version.

Down loaded this track and deleted my original HAT file but still get a "Bill MMM pukerohe.gdb mismatch" online.

Advice please.

Bill

If you are getting a missmatch message then your on the wrong revision.

Please try downloading again as the one that was available here was in-correct.

Your track should be V1.02 (check the readme in the track subfolder)

Penney's just dropped.  This is my NZ team mates home track.  We raced three different TC-65 cars here in GTL but here's the catch we ran in the opposite direction.

This seems to be one of their real life quirks - they suddenly decide for safety or some other reason to race in the opposite direction after a number years racing one way.

Not missing Bill, but probably turned off whilst another race takes place. Check back soon and it should be ok.

Great find PR, but what is that style of racing?

BTW here's some footage from when Psuedo raced here ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EM712rZiAY

1-I used to see a few Australian touring car races on MOTORSTV a few years ago and they run
a large field of different HP cars, they used to start with the less powered cars and so on,
what was fun was that after 10 laps they were almost all battling for the win.

2-That might be a public server for sure... ;D

Think I might make a return here, love this short little track, got the itch to drive GTL over the holidays but not very many people around on public servers so this'll be a well timed dose of GTL.

Love the videos, I particularly like the Fiat 131 pulling off to the side before the race started in PRs - I used to have one of those....it took me back seeing one being parking up to await recovery...never happened to me...

As for that pile up...that's never happened in GTL. ::)

1:06.6 in the Cobra, did lots of laps, its a beast to control, worse to drive than the bigblock one!
A tenth or two slower in the Elan which is so easy and consistent in comparison and only low 08s in the E-type, although I was learning the track in that one.

So did I back in the old freeview days - it was great.  V8s, Uts, GT cars, allsorts - none of this PC stuff black smoke on acceleration and sheets of flame on the overrun a great spectacle.

Sadly wont be here for this one, I love learning new tracks (& by the sounds of it, this is a good one!) but I've not had a chance to get on Pukekohe at all, so will be doing the familiar iR event this time. tumbleweed

Replay and results posted

Well what we lacked in numbers we made up for in quality, eh guys?

Superb track, must race here again!

Thanks to all those who turned up. It would have been tricky testing the random grid thing on me own

BTW Random grid worked a treat (I had pole)  ;D

Post by: phspok on January 12, 2010, 10:01:47 PM +0000
And I was last on the grid ! Was a great little track though, I made too many silly mistakes early on to challenge much
caught Phil and Tony then promptly got wobbly in the 1st chicane and took ages to get off the grass
did the same thing again later! Had some fun dicing with Steve (top marks for giving up the Cobra for the Jag)
then got in his way into T1, was a good recipe for some cool racing though.

Dissapointing turnout? you missed a cracker chaps.

Excellent track, brilliant car choice.   8)
This track deserved a lot more drivers on it.
Nice race, very enjoyable with Steve and Phil, thanks both for the fair fight.
Well done Goldtop for your pace and to all finishers.  :)

Cheers

Brilliant race, one of the best I've had in GTL. Lots of good, close fights. Pity about the low turnout but with iR in competition I fear grids will be smaller this season.

Looks like we lost out to iR tonight chaps, which is a shame because the track/car combination was excellent 8) Still, well done to those who did turn out.

Steve was clearly much quicker in the Cobra than I was in the Elan, but opted to battle it out in the Jag :fencing:  :notworthy: Had a nice little battle for the first couple of laps, but was able to pull away once I'd hit the front for what turned out to be a surprisingly easy win.

No problems to report with the random grid, although my XD seemed a little confused showing 2 or 3 DNFs all the way through the race ???

Be nice to see this track again :)

Yeah that was great fun dicing closely with many people, at least until my concentration failed and I couldn't control the car!  Cobra would have been boring, zoom off and then start crashing, not my idea of fun.

Not a good sign for league racing, being out of energy by half distance, as soon as the tyres went off my sluggish reactions couldn't balance the car.  Oh well.  Had so many offs decided to pit with 10 to go and put on fresh tyres, but couldn't even beat earlier times on full tanks.  And crashed a lot.  Until I got a stop go which I decided to ignore.

It was good to race closely, though I'm clearly very race rusty I never used to instantly start tightening up once I overtook someone, I was like a noob!

Hope GTL doesn't get abandoned too much, it's the only sim I have any enthusiasm for, even uninstalled P&G I enjoyed it so little.

A pity about the low turn out - please don't give up on GTL folks.

I was under practiced, even to the extent I hadn't decided whether it was better to use top or 3rd for T1.  The random start was different - I was 3rd on grid.  Made a reasonable start but was soon gobbled up by the faster drivers. On lap 3 or 4 took T1 too fast and drifted too far to the left for the chicane and got a cut track warning.  After that I had to be more carefull until Tony pitted and I pasted him.  He started to catch me so I pushed and got another cut track warning, then I spun on the second part of chicane and was back to last.  Where I finished.

I was too inconsistent again but it was nice when I got the chicane right and did the last part and the following right hander in one nice turn.

I wanted to take part, but was not in the mood for racing after I logged in. Ran a couple of laps with E-Type and since I was totally lost of what car to pick, I decided to park it there and do something else. Great to hear you had a good race!

I'm not so sure. There were only two maybe three drivers racing iR last night that would normally turn up for GTL. I think it was just one of those things last night chaps, where people didn't make it for what ever reason (as evident from some peoples posts). Quite common for people not to show for fun/test races... I'm certain that for the 1st GTL league race, you could easily expect to double last nights attendance.

Sounds like you had a good race anyway guys, disappointed I didn't have time to have a go at this track. Next time.

Good to see you planning to take on some GTL Purdie 8) (Tony, ban him from any Porka's ;))

hehe, just you try! I can only drive any car derived from a beetle!  ;)

Last night I ended up doing a 40 mins race against the AI around 1977 Le Mans in a Porsche 917 instead........this mod (http://csgt.comuv.com/csgt/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10%3A1970-world-sports-car-championship-100&catid=2%3Amods&Itemid=8) and rFactor work well  :)

Perhaps with all that snow last night and lack of grit, drivers couldn't get their cars to the track  ::) - it is a long drive.
