I was determined to try a less well used car and have been trying to get the GTC aston round but have to admit defeat. I can just manage a 43 but dont fancy the high wear and high temps on the tyres. Jumped in the 997Cp and couldnt believe how bad it is lol. Shows how long i've been out of it, need to re-adjust to it.

Just had a few laps in the Aston and i am happy with the feel of the car practically straight away. It is a "busy" track at the best of times so i'm expecting a tough race Sunday. Wonder what the weather will treat us to this week?  ;D

With all the championships so close i hope all the contenders get a place on the server as i noticed last week at least one person didn't get on and we were already missing some regulars like SBG and JonM. After being in leagues with ever shrinking grids its weird to be fighting to get in the server instead!

Sadly, I don't think you'll ever be rid of me or Jon :) Its great to get a full server and some new faces in GTC just hope I get in for Sunday.

p.s. a dry race would be nice

I spent much of yesterday spinning around our car storage area at Thruxton circuit, in a Mitsi L200 Warrior. 3 inch's of totally virgin snow and a rear wheel drive, well lets just say it may need a new set of rear tyre's, so yes if its wet I'm sure it'll be a breeze.

Oh good, just checked the generate weather tool & it's currently at "60". So it'll be another one where we don't have a clue what to expect. :(
Will I once again guess the wrong tyres, for what would be the 4th race in a row :-\ ::)

If only we had a hint moments before the race, that the weather was likely to get better, worse or stay the same :whistling:

I've no idea what "60" means ??? It says overcast for tonight which, surely, makes it dry? (Please)

This is my interpretation if it helps you:
It's done on a scale of 0 to 100.
0 to 61 = Sunny to Cloudy (I think ;))
61 to 74 = Damp
75 to 87 = Wet
88 to 100 = Storms

Race start was dry and since I felt that slicks were faster then inters in the qualy I started on med slicks.

Few laps into the race and it starts raining pretty hard. Still damp but I was all over the place. SBG had no problems, you were on inters?

While entering the pits I spinned into the tyre wall (), fitted inters and fueled up again. But the inters felt just as terrible actually...

So what is the tyre of choise? Guess most were on inters.. or not ::)

Weather was just ok this week. Did all of qually on soft slicks. Was on pole for quite a while, but knew it wouldn't last ended up 4th on the grid I think.

Start looked pretty dry so took the safe bet of medium slicks front and rear.

Dunno what happened at the start but Hal just pulled over from pole and we all went whizzing through. So up to third straight away.

Chased Berger and Gazza for the podium positions, but was never close enough to have an overtaking battle. Pit stops came and i came in just behind McFids in his Z4. He was very slow into the pits and even slower through the pit lane (not using limiter?) Left me a little flustered and hadn't got my engine stopped or anything for pulling into my pit box. Put on a new set of tyres and 74 litres of fuel. Was really slow pressing ENTER to do the pit stop so lost a bit of time there. Then on the out lap I was coming up to Jure and he lost it whacked the wall and then came spinning across the track. I broke very hard but he ESC out, another few seconds lost. LOL.

Medium slicks worked better in the second stint as there was not much dampness and set the fastest lap fairly near the end when Gazza was chasing me hard forcing me to drive faster! Damn him LOL. After being 25 seconds behind Berger after the pit stops had worked themselves out that was down to 8 seconds at the end, but it was never going to be enough. Finished with just over a litre of fuel so judged that to perfection. :sweatdrop:

That was almost a dry race for a change, certainly no problem running slicks the whole race.

Very pleased with 2nd position, makes the championship very tight indeed I reckon and well done to Berger. Now I just need Jon to come back so we can have a go at the team championship.

P.S. Just to re-iterate Eddie Meyer you were warping very badly the whole race for everyone. Looked like the classic wireless connection warp to me. It was certainly dangerous lapping you. Sorry.

Yep, agreed and shame. Thems the rules for this season, Ive registered my complaints and I'm just getting on with it and I promise not to gripe about anymore  (cwap just broke my promise there ;))

I went with med slicks Jimmie and they were fine. I was a little surprised to find them worn at end of long 1st stint and I had to change them (or maybe they were just cold?).

Has to be said that standards were far better than Oschers and congrats to all. Nice to see a full server again and some old faces return :)

Weather was tolerable, problem I have is that I can't tell whether it's wet or not untill I slide off somewhere maybe because of the low detail I run to get a decent frame rate, dunno, but I lost count of the times I fell off just moving over
to let GT1s through and the car would not get round... into the gravel again and again .... Other than my lack
of pace weather was no big deal.  Had some fun towards the end trying to catch Dave, was slowly eating into
his lead, but was trying very hard and got a stop and go, which brought Spanner up right behind me for the last lap
Appologies if I was not as easy to lap in the later laps as in the 1st half, but having fell off so many times and as
I was trying to catch Dave, you gonna have to work for it at least a bit  :)

That was a classic endurance race  :) it had all the drama, battles at different points of the race, fuel and tyre management, varying weather conditions, and best of all, a race right to the flag  8)

Qually wrong footed me with the damp conditions, really didnt suit my reasonably stiff setup and i was well off my pbs and was quite shocked to find myself 5th or 6th GTC as could do 39's in the dry.

It was a tough call what tyres to take at start of race with my setup menu saying 'raining' and monitor saying dry with rain forecast. Went with slicks.
Race was good fun from the lights with several GTC's all in a close gaggle but within a few laps the top 5 or 6 of us had opened about an 8 sec gap over the following pack and that set the tone for the rest of the night.
After a couple of guys had offs i was soon in a strong fight for 2nd and 3rd with the two Z4m Boys in Mcfids and Prof ahead.
It took a long chase to finally close down Mcfids and then when he left a door open on the hairpin exit, i got a good run up the inside following a GT1 car and got past  :) I was expecting a strong comeback fight but his challenge faded quite quickly and he dropped back within a few laps to about 8 seconds behind ???
Next target was Prof for 2nd place (ginsters was long up the road in his GT1/GTC hybrid  ;D ) and i set about reeling him in. But prof had the racing gods with him tonight and everytime i closed the gap to 1-2 seconds, a gaggle of GT1 cars would catch us and put a decent gap between us :taz:
It was a great battle with Prof driving his socks off to stay ahead. He pitted one lap ahead of me with me right on his bumper, but i didnt have a great lap on worn tyres and low fuel and when i emerged from my stop, he steamed back past with a 3 sec lead  :(
Again i reeled him and got it down to about 1.5-2 secs but i made my only spin of the night when i tried to hurry myself up out the way of team mate TT in his GT1 at the 2nd hairpin  :wetfish: lost about 5 seconds  :(
That was all Prof needed but i chased him very hard to the end for the last 20minutes but he kept a 3 sec lead over me on the final laps. I finished 3rd on the pody  :)
Top fight Prof ! :thumbup1:

Well done to Ginsters for his win in the sleek looking and very fast Kerbies Spkyer and Berger for the GT1 win  8)

I enjoyed tonight's race and it never quite rained hard enough to make me want to change tyres. I had an excellent battle with MJ at the end of my first stint and all the way through the second half of the race where he was only ever a handful of seconds behind and seemed a bit faster on laps with no GT1s, I was kept working hard right to the end miles behind SbG as usual (Great pace as always, Sir!).
Well done to the GT1 podiums and all GT1 drivers whose lapping was excellent tonight.

Awesome race.! :D

Good job Gazza said he was using dry tyres on TS as I was considering inters thinking that it would rain very near the start of the race going on what it said for current conditions. After he said that I changed my mind. It did say rain for everyone else, yes?

I messed up at the start by hitting headlights instead of pit limiter and then limiter on and off and then on again (at least it was not my engine starter button this time, lol). Quick thinking by Gazza saved a pile up of epic proportions. Sorry all.

I almost collided from out braking myself more than once in the race, sorry simon and MJ.

1st to 10th on the first lap just like Oscherslaben.  ::) Many great battles after that including a very long fight with API, nice. 8)

I also had great scraps with Legzy, Jose, nsfast and a few others.

Classic moment of the race for me was when I followed berger as he overlapped API, jose and nsfast all fighting in the last 10 mins or so of the race. That ended up in quite a big tussle. Faaaantastic! ;D

Well done podiums.

Bit disappointed with that as i knew i had a decent setup here from last season.

Start was a little hairy to say the least, was such a good job i had pulled over to the left when H@l pushed the wrong button and he didn't release his limiter coz if i had been right behind him i surely would of gone right up the back of him and probably would of caused chaos.

Started on medium slicks as it wasn't raining at the start and when the rain came it didn't feel to bad so stayed out and was keeping ahead of Berger apart from slowing down to lap GTC's. Was 2 or 3 seconds infront of Berger when i was behind Eddie and his car had a massive warp and i hit it which did some damage and when i took my stop i wasted time trying to cancel repair and then i put to much fuel in aswell which let Simon get 4 seconds ahead of me doh. ( Must start doing better pit stops and getting strategy right as this has cost me some better results)  I finished with 20l fuel left.

I got the gap down to 3 seconds to Simon but with traffic and  another scary moment with eddies car  i couldn't catch him but good to know i made you push lol. Couldn't believe Berger was 30 seconds ahead but now i know you didn't change tyres so credit to you for that as i never even thought of doing that as i didn't think it would work for me.

All in all a decent 3rd but i feel i should of made it a 2nd if things had gone right.

Grats all podiums.

Qualified 5th and saw a commotion at start, H@l was gong back in time. ;) Then he woke up and came shouldering by. ::) Managed to keep the car on track, though I lost a place to David Milne. After H@l spinned I was right behind David when he hit the wal on s/f straight. Hit his car in full, spinned. Ended dead last of the GT1s, sbg passed while I was testing the car for damage. It tended to drag a bit to the left but was otherwise ok. Started to drive faster then and was gaining places. Rain came and went but the meds were fine all along. :) Tried to be patient when passing GTCs though I'm not sure I always succeeded. :-\

Eventful first lap took me out of podium battle, though laptimes speak of my fair chance to stand fairly high - 0,02 sec from Sharks best which was a bit faster than Berger and Gazzer. :(

really enjoyed getting back into it ableit with a DNF! was happy with 3rd on the grid but amazed at SbG's pace in pole! (impressive  ;))

start of the race was hairy for everyone, adjusting the damp surface..... was keeping 3rd for a while but Prof was getting more and more threatening. He slipped past at a similar time to Jimmie having an off so I stayed 3rd  :D

...then it all fell apart I just kept dropping wheels off and falling down the order before losing an argument with a wall in a lack of concentration missing the braking point and having my gf talking in my ear  ::)  :P

Forgot how important consistency rather than pace is for these races

Good job too because I had a lot more consistency than pace last night!

Every time I think I'm getting a handle on the 997, an event comes along where the other Porka drivers had me my butt on a plate. Back row in qually, then watched most of the field zoom away at the start. Slicks were the only sane choice and as the rain came and went and came and went and came I just had to keep pushing as hard as I dared to keep the tyre temperature up.

Stopped at half distance and the second half of the race was more of the same. Was started to get worried about Matt chasing me down but with 2 laps to go I knew I had enough in hand, and then he had his stop and go and I could relax over the last lap.

"Yeah, it'll probably rain."  Guess who started on intermediates, hoping for a from zero to hero situation.

Lost 5 secs per lap due to dumb dumb decision, there were perhaps 2-3 laps when intermediates had similar performance to slicks, rest of the time I had to let people by, was clear to me rears will be fried if I push inters on (reasonably) dry track.

Rain never came.

Switched for slicks and got stop&go penalty for speeding in the pits (forgot to push the button, had 3 GT1s behind me whilst diving in the pits, my eyes were on rear view mirror, not pit-limiter. ah the shame of it all! :D ).

Went in and did a drive through. Came out and heard "you must do your stop and go penalty."

Now I know how idiots feel.  :stupid:

Lost it later on trying to push (was 3 or so laps down) on med-hard slicks and hit escape to avoid being collected by a (Simon's Lister?) GT1 car comming in behind me.

Cool race.  ;D

Liked the Practice & Qually conditions, sunshine but damp track. Don't recall ever seeing that here before 8)
So was shocked that when it ticked over to the race session, it was still damp but now showing light rain too (though non could be seen from the grid).
Stuck with the soft slicks that I had been happy with from the two earlier sessions, knowing that the Aston would eat them & I'd have to pit a bit earlier then normal.

Started sensibly & found others literally giving away their positions, so was up to 5th after a handful of laps & was surprised to be matching Jose's laptimes just ahead of me all the time. Was surprisingly comfortable (despite the surprise added rain with my slicks) there for about ten laps though TT was slowly gaining & had the gap down to about 2 secs, when I span myself at the left-hand hairpin (the only place on the track I was struggling all race ::)) & gifted him the position. Stayed out for another lap & then pitted.

Had to put Med-slicks on to be able to complete the 2nd longer stint, but they were fine really. Basically cruised back up the order as other pitted. NSFast looked like he might get close enough to make a move at some point a couple of times, but seemed to fall back again each time, pushing too hard maybe? Eventually I got back up to 6th & had been gaining on Jose for some time. I waited for numerous laps, thinking he'd give his team mate an easy passing opportunity as I was obviously being held up by him... but it didn't happen so I had to start pressing him... which in turn gave H@L & NSFast the chance to start chipping away at the comfortable 5 sec gap we'd built up. It took a few laps but eventually I out-broke Jose at the final right-hand turn, but it was obvious that Jose was now in danger from the other two as it had taken so long to get past. I then started opening up a gap on them all again & had it up to 5.5 secs after just two laps & I cruised through the last four laps to what was a great final finishing position for me 5th! under no pressure what so ever, I span myself at that damn left-hand hairpin for the 2nd time >:( >:( >:(.

I recovered to see H@L & NSFast go past with Jose still a few seconds behind me. Pushed on & immediately knew I'd be able to get right back with them, even if passing would be hard... but no matter as my fuel warning came on & I basically spent the last 2.5 laps cruising to the finish line. I let Jose by with about three corners to go & finished a very naff 8th after all that.

Terrible night for Team Oldie really, as we fought amongst ourselves... it pretty much gifted the points to our rival teams & made sure we're no longer at the top as the :alien: filled hedgehog team romp into 1st place  :taz:

I dont know how Magny-coour is so diferent to all other tracks ???. Normally run soft/meds but softs on the front would wear at twice the rate as the rears and I seemed to suffer with understeer and no front-end grip no matter what i did. With the damp conditions in qually and at race start i thought i plump with the softs on the front which didnt work too badly early on but as it dried i was suffering quite badly in the braking zones and was losing the back end alot which seemed to just be me downshifting too quickly.

Too many mistakes dropped me further and further back from MJ and Matt then got distracted a few times trying to let lappers through, but it culminated in my going straight on through the first RH of that fast chicane before the 2nd split and picked up loads of damage and a puncture. Then i took me forever to get the car back on track because of the stupidly high first gear and the clutch continously kicking in. So about this time i thought id better take my stop and it was about half way anyway but after the repairs ended up right at the back of the field and just couldnt really gain much time to Matt and Dave ahead. Now because of the dry track now thought i'd go back to meds on the front but ended up suffering with the rear wearing far more than the fronts which meant i was loosing the back end alot now ::)

I did notice Bob was warping a bit especially when lapping me into the haipin, which didnt help when he moved back online then me hitting the warping car!

Yes, Bob was warping again for me too. Because we're about the same pace, that's about three races from the last three races that he's been darting about my screen at some point.

Have you been racing using a WLAN Bob?

Sorry to TT for my error at the end of Lap 1, I felt somebody hit me but I don't think I got in anybody elses way after that...silly error to make.

I quite enjoyed the lap I had though, got disconnected in Quali, but it took me a few laps to realise so I had to jump back in and managed to get in an average lap to start 6th. Made up a place through T2 as there was a bit of madness up ahead, I took it easy into the hairpin too, just to make sure I didn't make an error and take out everybody in front of me. Made it through there ok and was up behind Simon G (or Dave G, I can't remember!) in 4th I think.

Just about died coming out of the Imola Chicane, put a wheel on the grass and got quite a wiggle on, held it alright though and then began to think that I was in a pretty decent position running 4th and keeping up with them for the most past whilst carrying a full tank of fuel (Mediums all round), then coming out of the final chicane I hit the edge of the outside wall and my car went skyward and all over the shop - TT was the victim of that and when I eventually did land I think I was out of the track boundray and my car was wrecked anyway so I bailed then.

Once again, apologies to TT, but I enjoyed my lap!

Lol, you couldn't hit anyone else, only the poor onlookers, tucked "safely" away behind the high fence on the stand. :D I hit you when you were in the air and the kick knocked you out of the track. :o I'd be squished like a lemon in real accident, no doubt. :-X

Accidents happen, David (ask H@l  ) so no harm there. That wall is positioned a bit wrong for a modern day circuit safety regulation, is it not? :-\

Had a pleasingly consistent race overall and not a bad finish.

Qualified a decent 5th in GTC at the last moment and lined up on the grid after gambling with med slicks (correctly!!). Had a good tussle with MJ after the initial rain but was mugged by him after letting through a GT1. I lost ground on MJ when letting through the GT1s, which Prof and MJ didn't seem to suffer from.

Pit stops came and i came in just behind McFids in his Z4. He was very slow into the pits and even slower through the pit lane (not using limiter?)

Sorry Simon, had a very confused, befuddled moment trying to decifer where the pit speed limit started and where my pit was.

After the stop was only 8 seconds behind MJ but he and Prof pulled away with impressive pace and I finished in an ok 4th (or 3rd if you discount SBG who runs in his own alien car class ;) )

Had vistors round at the last minute and couldn't make the race. Looks like a good result for the team anyway but i think a shot at the drivers title for me has passed now unless others have disco problems like i did at Brno and Oscher's. Glad everyone enjoyed the race and congrats to the podiums.

Q.3...R.1

my start was ok and i was 2nd behind gazzer49 and in front of simon. We 3 driver had exactly same speed and always in doing lapping GTC cars the gap do change always a little.
in the pistop time we 3 drivers was very close and after gazzer and simon did her pitstop and in the lap i did my i saw i had 67 sec. lead of simon.
i did pitstop one lap earlier because i know it will not be a 51 lap race with this little rain conditions and i did my pitstop in lap32.
i was sure with 67 sec. lead and not much fuel take and will stay in front of simon if i do change tyres (start wit med med) and do soft soft for the last 18laps, but the med tyres was ok and i was not sure about the wheather, if it will start strong rain we had to do an extra stop and with not change tyres i had many seconds won (do win??), so i did not change.
simon did close the gap, but to slow, but later i was in a very very unlucky situation, in front of me was API and he was little faster then nsfast and did try to catch him and with my not change tyres i was same fast or only little faster and i did think...ok stay behind, gap is good, but then i saw H@llo comes fast from behind and i was not sure what to do, if i let him overtake it is a 3driver battle which will cost me time behind this cars, but then comes a other car to group API/nsfast, so there was 3 GT cars in front battle in 1 faster direct behind me and simon comes closer and closer, i was now nervous, but then after (i think) a battle i could overtake (they let me, big thanks) and race was done, puh puh.
i am happy with my win. The weather was great, more interesting race then in complete dry, but not so difficulty as it was in spa, perfect condition.
i was again very surprive about how great the 2 class races here are, no problems i had with every GTC car, extrem fair.

i hope i can race next sunday, but i am not sure, but in my favourite track dubai (if i remember correct here is last race) i do drive.

servus

I saw you coming on Lap 1 and thought he looks like he's heading for the National circuit, so moved over to the right so you could take the shortcut. ;)

Yer, thanks. I had a feeling that there was a corner around there somewhere. Pity the feeling did not come sooner. ;D

Accidents happen, David (ask H@l  )

Dont remind me. My worst of all time was probably when I took out TT at Oschers 2 races ago. :-\
Or maybe when I hit the pit wall at Monza in the wet.
I could go on.

You know H@l, might be when one drives a difficult car might be he's more alert and has less situations - happened to me in S10 with the Marcos and I think to you also in the Viper. :) I'm thinking of going back to Marcos in S12, it's a fine excuse for bad results hate to see it rot in the garage.  :(

Thanks H@L  :)

That was a great race. Some fantastic racing in the last twenty minutes with five of us (and Berger) all so close.
