(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=227)
(5) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(6) Remember that P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function, but our gentleman's agreement is that everyone will stick to a speed limit for the pit-lane of 40mph/60kph.

Does the Shelby Cobra 289 include the coupe and roadster? If the coupe is included, is the ringer red one included as well?

Dubai....vintage car racing  ??? where did that spring from? Seems an odd choice but will be there all the same. Not so keen on using modern circuits for P&G.

Just have to think of it as the UK Historic Drivers Club winter outing to Dubai.

So long as it isn't stuffed full of poxy chicanes I'm happy. ;D

It's an odd duck circuit with a challenging chicane which cuts through to shorten the full track. It is quite a challenging circuit.

Please just tell me which is the fastest car.

I need all the circuit time I can get and can't spend half of it sorting out which set of wheels is best.

I'm guessing, haven't driven this track in an age, it will be the red (Wilmot?) Cobra Clive. I'd hope none of the faster gents use it, ooogh the shame, but if it brings us all closer than its all good by me.

Much better choices here than last time out for me. Daytona or 914 suits me sir  :)

I'd say the 914 should be much quicker than the rest and the L88 will be too slow. Ignoring the 914, I'd guess that the 275 will be hard to beat.

Really don't know what to think about this car groupings in a circuit like Dubai National. These are cars with really different features, and in Dubai National there are only 2 straights to overwork the power of most of them. Not yet sure that the 914 will be the car to beat here, the 289 Willment and the 275 Speciale are not so easy to pass as the L88...
I'll have some troubles turning during these days, because on tuesday will start the GTRItalia championship with the faithful teammate Ayrton, and on tuesdays I'll have the other P&G championship... I'm just thinking that it's no need for me to try because I can't make this :(, but I hope to send you some VDA friends, in the case you miss us :) lol
Cu!

Really ought to use this as an opportunity to up my tank driving skills (from the non-existent), but having the 914 on the menu is just too tempting. I also think the Fezza will be very strong here.

Good :)
We've not used these cars in the 'off-season' yet & I picked the National circuit (which I've only raced on once, but had an excelent race) because I wanted to use one of the 'built in tracks'. The Dubai National version seemed like it would provide a good balance between favouring the Power & the handling cars... still, I could be wrong

Paul is correct, the 914 should be quickest & the L88/Daytona should be slowest... but there should be just enough straight track so the gap isn't too big & if you're in a 914 that gets stuck behind an L88... good luck with your laptimes

Legzy

p.s. Shame on any girls taking the F275 Speciale... so expect to see me in that come race night

If I can attend, I will drive almost for sure the 914, because when it is selectable
I always chose it.  8)
Once again, nice mix of cars in a nice track.  :)

Of course you have historic cars in Dubai!

Legzy is obviously recreating when those petrol head sheiks hire the circuit so that they can play with their car collections

However I don't think I will do this one. I'm finding it too hard to get into this track and don't really like it much.

I quite like lugging the heavy metal around as it has a couple of nice fast corners. However, initial tests vs Clive and Keith leaves me fearing the 914 murders the Daytona and Cobra, even the mighty red one (yes, yes, Paul was right on ;)). After initial trials its not even close, 40's for me and 38's for those gents, but maybe that will change?

Not a good l88 track - too few straights. Please let's not make the cars too different.

It doesn't when I've got hold of it.
Not a good l88 track - too few straights. Please let's not make the cars too different.
It looks to me like I've got three options:
1) Do nothing & don't worry that the 914 is quicker then I anticipated here.
2) Add a car (L88 Coupe is the only likely option as the Cobra 427 is probably too fast :-\).
3) Remove the 914.

Personally I can't even get out the pits in an L88 Coupe.... but a Muscle car specialist like SBG / Mike / Matt might be able to tame it?
If you chaps can make the L88 competitive & you want to drive it, then I'll add it to the official list.

I'd rather go with options one & two, as I'm loath to take the 914 away, as I know it was a popular choice instantly... :(

After an ugly qualifiy in my Italian GTR2 champ on the Nordschleife track, I decided to have some fun with the car listed for this race, and I've tried all cars with race fuel... that's the result:

Porsche 914  1.39.4
Corvette L88 1.43.0 :(
Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale 1.38.9
Lotus Elan  1.39.8
289 Willment 1.40.6

Maybe I leaved the default fuel tank on the 914, and probably I was a bit heavy than necessary, but it's not a matter... I'd turn in a 1.38 high... not so better...
I don't know if it's just my impression, but probably the 275 Speciale is stronger on this track than the 914. I made my best lap after only 2 or 3 laps, (then leaved) and I find it easier to drive than usual here in Dubai National. A good driver in this car can kill the race at the first lap I think... even if after 10-15 laps with worn tyres it won't be easy to keep the same pace during the end of the race.
L88 Roadster is definitely rejected here! Maybe the L88 Coupè can make something better and can fill the gap between the other cars, even if I'm not so sure... you can give it a try!
Another great car for this track is the Elan, that in race pace it's a bit worst than the Fezza and 914, but seems easiest than the rest of the listed cars, and that ensures a good pace during al the race... Nevetheless, on the straight is the slowest, and it will be a good challenge for a fast driver to bring it in front of fastest car like Fezza and 914 at the end of the race.
The most challenging car for the faster driver will surely be the 289 Willment, that is the funniest to drive in this group for my taste, but it's really difficult to tame such a great oversteer when accelerating for some laps... I was not so constant in it!
It's a pitty I have to miss that one, I like so much such a good car list!
Cu soon!

It's a standard GTR2 track Bill, so it should be in your GTR2 file if you can't see it in PnG. Just copy it over if need be.

Too sandy for big metal IMHO
Best in the Wilment for me is 1:42.6
Best in the red Penske L88 is 1:39.7

Not tried anything else yet.
Seems that the L88 Coupè is right balanced in race pace with the other listed cars! good news for the L88 lovers!
There are 4-5 cars in less than one second pace difference, even if the Speciale for me remains the car to beat here...and Willment is a bit too slow than the others... However it will be a funny race!

I am not here on thursday so can't race, but I did some test laps in a few cars with 10 or so laps of fuel.

914  -  1.36.2
L88 coupe  -  1.39.1
275s-   1.39.1

I did the 914 first but did quite a lot more laps. The 275 wasn't very enjoyable and I think I wasn't driving it the right way. It overheats tyres very quickly too. Should be a bit quicker with time. The L88 is a right handful on that pace compared to the 914, and I can't imagine driving that way all race.

Wilment for me is 1:42.6
red Penske L88 is 1:39.7
Elan                   1:42.2
914                    1:40.4
275 Spec             1:41.3

I think you have to be called Tazio Nuvolarteos to get the best out of the 275 spec, it's like herding cats, it dives this
way and that way, every way except where I want it to go, 914 would be better for me if I spent some time on setups

For me the easiest to drive is the Elan, then L88, 914, 275, Cobra

L88 laptimes are probably the most variable, because, as stated it is a bit of a handfull, but for me is easier than
the 275 Spec, which I can't drive.

It was absolutely a good lap Paul! I went down to a 1.38.3 this evening... 37 is surely possible for me, but I don't see any chance of getting a 1.36.2 with the 914!
Are you sure that was not a report mistake?!?  :P

Fraid not. The 914 is so much more eager to turn in that it gains big chunks of time in the twisty bits compared to the others.

I've managed a 39.8 in the L88 Coupe. (on hub caps and door handles)

Not something I could keep up all race but I do like going down the straight that fast.  ;D

It will be interesting to go back to the 914 and see if the experience has taught me anything about getting around the circuit in general.

The Lotus might come into its own if the bigger beasts start running out of rubber.

I ran a few laps in the Penske L88 and the standard 289 Coupe. This track isn't friendly to the big beasts. The Cobra turned in better, but didn't have the legs. The Penske L88 wouldn't turn for cod, but rocketed down the short straight. I'll probably find a happy middle with the Willment Cobra. 1:38's in Penske and 1:43's in 289 Cobra. I expect 40's from Willment.

Amend your above post for the 'rude' word please Mike.

A popular substitute we use here for 'rude' words, is to substitute in a "fish" name (i.e. The L88 wouldn't turn for haddock). With minimum thought, you'll find there really are some quite apt/satisfying names out there ;D

Thanks

::) you lot are so predictable  ;)  to quantify...i love the Dubai track, always enjoyed great races there in the modern GT cars that we've raced. I also love the P&G 914. It just so happens that this turns out a great track for P&G, but i'm still not personally keen on using modern circuits for it, but if the racings great, who cares !
This ones a winner, good choice Legz and Tony  :-*

ps had a very quick crack with the L88 but way much prefer the euro finesse of the 914, the L88s just too hard work here for me to enjoy it.

Very fair, however last races I only saw the fastest drivers chose the faster cars (which is fair also,
they are selectable). As for me and I don't want to blow my own trompet (I hope this setence is right) ;D
I will not chose the 914, the 275 neither the L88 (the supposed faster cars). I have spent last season
trying not to chose the faster cars or the ones that would suit better to each kind of track,
but if this season, the faster drivers carry on on chosing faster cars, I'm affraid I will begin to make
the same choice.  :)
Anyway, sometimes I wonder myself if Tokens weren't a good option...

Why afraid to make that choice? Choose what you want  :) I haven't done that in the past and, frankly, I'm looking forward to doing it now.

The L88 and 275 are the only choices that put me level-ish with the 914 pilots I want to race so I'll be in the L88.

Race prediction

The L88 and 914 seem quite close on lap times but barring a massive shunt or some of Legzy’s “special” weather I see this race as a massive L88 battle at the front with a swarm of 914s in close attendance.  I think that a good driver in a Coupe L88 will win and since I have tried driving the thing I think he will deserve to.  Always supposing that he still has some vestige of rubber on the front left corner.

It might depend who gets to T1 first and I just have no way of predicting this other than to say that it will not be me.  The Cobras may be able to mess things up for everyone here.

I would love to drive the L88 but thus far I do not have the consistency.  If there are three or four L88s at the front then a 914 is going to struggle to get past them.  Even if he gets past the first one at T1, the 914 driver isn’t going to do the lap any faster than the next L88 in front of him.  That will mean that the next time down the straight the previously passed L88 will breeze back past again.

As I said, I would love to drive the L88. ;-)

Hope we see some 275's in that mix as I'm sure its on the same pace. If there aren't any, I'm not afraid to take the "girly" option and use it. As with last week, the power/handling balance here has potental :)

No rain dancing here Clive, it's a dry race.

I saw Paul practicing in the Elan & reckon he could upset your prediction if he manages not to get too swamped off the line... then he will likely be making SBG work very hard up the front end in his L88. I would imagine MJ in a 914 will be keeping them company & probably a couple of our Italian friends in Fezza's. Always a few surprises likely too. ;D

I'm hoping for a decent mid pack race myself, I'll be in the 914 banging out regular 40's, hoping to finally break into the 39's :) (or maybe the F275s if it's been left out :-\)

they are selectable). As for me and I don't want to blow my own trompet (I hope this setence is right) Grin
Smiley
Anyway, sometimes I wonder myself if Tokens weren't a good option...

The consensus after last season was that people didn't want fast drivers in slower cars, so it's not surprising to see people taking what they like to drive. My only concern is when one car seems too quick or too slow for the group. Nobody wants to see a fast driver take a dominant car and win easily.

With this system there is only a small group of cars to choose from, and every driver is going to have his/her favourites. I will just pick a car that I enjoy driving, as long as it is fairly competitive. Looks like I can race tonight now, so I'll probably take the elan and try to pester the L88 monsters into a few mistakes.

Tried the 914, Elan & Daytona & am equally slow (1.41s+) in all of them so I won't be troubling the sharp end of the grid here. That chicane/link piece is awful, really ruins an otherwise quite good track.

Agreed!

I think Legzy has promised the full track during season 2 proper and I think I will enjoy that.

I quote Ian and Paul regarding the car choice, particularly in a fun event, everyone have to choose the car in which he enjoy more!
In the last fun event I think the Abarth was the 3rd strongest car, after the Mustang and the Alfa junior, and I saw not much of the "slower" people taking these cars... and the theory says that if the fast drivers would have taken the same cars of the slower, the result would have been the same...
Most of you choose to take a slower car, even if the laptimes were widely known... it's a matter of taste! I had one of the best fight in my P&G "career" with Paul and lentolo (my VDA friend), and Lentolo that is surely a bit slower than me and Paul with P&G, fit perfectly our pace with the Alfa Junior... that was the only way to get a close race for me, when I saw Paul with the Abarth, Mike and Ian with the stang, and lentolo with the Alfa, I knew that I would have fight during all the race at least with 3 of them... for me that was enough funny!
About the Dubai race, unfortunately 6 of us are engaged with the ROTW P&G championship, and lele in GTRItalia champ... I think that no one of VDA can make this one :(... That means no Fezza for us :)
Cu at the next!

From viewing some of the 914/L88 laps last night and looking at the timings, I reckon tonight's race promises to be close throughout.

It looks like the faster guys will be taking the more (for various reasons) challenging cars: L88/Elan/275 which is to their credit, leaving the rest of us to battle it out with our preferred choices. 914/275/Elan drivers who wish to challenge at the front will need to find a way through the L88s (or make time) in the middle sector which should create excellent racing.

I don't think anyone should feel awkward about taking the 914. I'm taking it because it's the only car I've really concentrated on around here and I enjoy driving it. With the aid of a great setup and lots of practice, I'm now able to keep up with the faster drivers when hotlapping, but we all know that can change come race time.

I hope we have a good turn out tonight and that everyone feels free to choose the car they think they'll have the most fun in.

I can hustle the L88 round in under 40 on a good lap, but it's messy, I don't really like the 914
though I've used it ok in the past, I like the Elan and the Daytona, but I'm too slow in both
I will priobably be using the 275 though I find it rather wayward, I "believe" I am more likely to finish
in it than the L88...

im looking forward to a david v goliath battle with the 914vL88, been there many times before in 911 v vipers etc and its always a fascinating/frustrating fight !

agree with others in the chicane area of the national ruining this tracks flow but dont mind it for classic car racing. :-\

First of all sorry to Geoffers for mucking up his race before it had begun... really sorry mate but its not like me to cause a 1st corner colliision, i need more practice in these cars and with wooden brakes! Sorry  :-\ hate doing things like that and just locked up. Watched the replay and can imagine you watched the whole thing unfold and cringe  :(

Love these cars but going to practice harder...... need more pace!  ::)

No worries mate, I made a mess of things myself after that  ::). Crashed 3 times & with a crabbing car I decided to pit for repairs, braked to stop at my pit & the car turned sharp right into the pit garages & the engine died.

Just could not get the hang of this track, I like it (apart from the link) but can't drive it!

Very sorry about driving into the back of you at the start Clive. I was so keen to get off the line quickly and make a couple of places before T1. A real rush of blood to the head which isn't usually my style :-[ Apologies also to those who were caught up in it. I hope I didn't cause too much damage.

I'll put my report in.

Sorry to Ade for T1, pretty poor from me :'(

Saw that the three fastest gents were in 914, L88 and Lotus (great pace Paul) so decided to go for the 275 last minute to try and add even more spice. Was getting used to it and better throughout quali but I'd never have got MJ's pole, nice one. After T1 feck up, sorry again Ade, it was pressure Mike for 38 minutes. He made one slip and I was through only to have come back at me 3 laps later. Think that effort might have codded his tyres and I was all over him for last 20 mins. I gradually worked on where I could take him on final section and was quite happy I could do him after a few dry runs. However, the sneaky American must have been watching me and he broke much more than normal in first section so that I couldn't try it. Crafty git :)

Congrats Mike, MJ and Paul. As long as you accept the likely outcome, those choices provide fantastic fun  :)

That was brilliant fun !  :)

Qually was fiercely fought with everyone seeming to up their pace from the praccy but i managed to stay in the top 3 or 4 for most of the session, then right at the end i banged in my best lap and grabbed Pole !!
Sorry Mike  ;) (who had seemed invincible!)

Sat on the grid knowing i had 3 aliens right behind me and several much more powerful cars...gulp  :P As predicted, at green light i got swamped by half a dozen cars passing me left right and centre before T1  :surrender: but luckily for me a few of them over cooked it and missed their turn in points while i calmly cut back down the inside and got back to 3rd  :)
There then ensued a fierce scrap with Pauls Elan for the next 17 laps while SBG and Mike edged out a lead. :fencing:
I tried all sorts of attack angles but Paul being the master racer he is, closed me off well wherever he could see i was quicker and the dice continued without respite.
Finally on lap 17 he cracked and outbraked himself at the final corner before the s/f and i scampered through. I knew the fight had been costing me time but once clear i pulled out a gap until i had a 6 second breathing space and the front two right in front of me dualling away. I closed right up on Ginsters fezza derrier in the final laps but had no answer to their bhp down the straights and the race finished with all 3 of us less than a second apart over the line.
Brilliant race!

Great mix of cars, cool driving by all and a superb track  :thumbup1: shame turnout was low this eve  ???

Grats to Mike on the win and Ginsters and Paul for a great race. :notworthy:

Looking at the replay Tudor I would say that it was my fault.  Without an analyser I haven't a clue exactly what I did but after an initial good start I seem to go nowhere.

Theories are:
1  Selected neutral instead of second

2 Brain jumped out of gear and I hit that blasted clutch button again.

Sorry mate

I decided to go with the L88 in the closing moments before the race cause I really enjoy driving the car and didn't get any practice time in the Cobra. Turns out my selection was spot on with the pace of others. Paul handicapped himself too much, but still put in a brilliant fight and had great pace. If the race included a pit stop for fuel he surely would have clobbered Ian and I.

I didn't take too many laps earlier in the week for practice and new I'd have to make some radical changes to my base L88 setup to work properly for this track. I got to work right away on tire pressures and cranknig up the rear bar trying to get the pig to turn. In the end, I got something that worked well for a handful of laps, but then would melt the tires. I didn't have time to work more so I had to make due.

The setup worked very well on low fuel for quali. My first flyer was quick, but Ian pipped me by a cuople tenths so I put my head down and really worked hard on the next couple laps. I was surprised to nail a 1:27.2 and felt I could do no better so I parked it. I watched others to see if I can identify their strong and weak points on the track to prepare for the race. I thought I had it locked up when Ian wasn't making an impression on my time. Last lap, MJ got me by a couple tenths and foiled my pole, but I wasn't worried being on the front row with a bazilliion horsepower.

When the light turned green, I took off and initially felt the race may be boring. Things changed on lap 5 when my tires started to complain. Ian reeled me in and pressured me into a mistake at the chicane shortly afterwards. I knew if I could catch and repass him I could "park" it in the turns and use my power to keep him at bay into T1. I had to work very hard to get within striking distance. Hew as so much better in the last sector and particularly the last turn before start/finish. It took some time, but I eventually got a good enough run through the 3rd sector and a good exit off the last turn to just get along side at the brake zone and hold on for the lead going into turn 1. From there, my tires were filayed. I was all over the place. Ian poked his head in looking for weaknesses and like he said earlier, developed a plan for the last lap pass. I knew where he was strong so I made sure to keep things tight and tidy the last lap in sector 3. If he would have pounced elsewhere, I wouldn't have expected it, but it likely would have ended in tears for both of us. And if we had 10 more minutes, I think MJ would have taken us both down.

Congrats on a great run Ian and MJ.

Let's do pit stops one of these days.

That's very generous of you Clive. My start method does make me quick off the mark these days and looking at the replay, you did seem to bog down a little on your gear change. A combination of the two maybe, but I'll certainly be more careful in future.

Brilliant, just brilliant.
Superb mix of cars. Legzy and Tony you are spoiling us.  :)
After a couple of laps with the Elan, I realised I was having lack of skills to get a decent lap on it.
Last minute change to the Daytona, just to add one different more car to the field.
First impressions were fine. Managed a 1.40.
Start went well and I found myself at 6th, but to be honest, I was having so much fun drifting,
that after 10 laps my rear tires melt... ;D
Meanwhile I had lots of fun with Matt and Tinman first, and Clive and Legzy later.
Unfortunately, I got a S/G for a cutting (after a mistake) went to pits to get my penalty,
returned to track and got a DQ for ignoring the penalty  ??? What the heck and bollocks.
Even at the end of the pack I was enjoying so much the drifting Shelby.
Remain untill the finish, watching a few battles.
Congrats Mike, Ian and Mark for the perfect driving.
Well done to all finishers.

Cheers

Luckily PR, Clive & API sorted that out over the rest of the race ;D. I think Goldy was just going to join the party, but lost it sadly.

Really good fun fending off MJ in his 914 for a good part of the race. In a bid to stop the left rear overheating I had gone with soft fronts and hard rears, but this ended up giving me badly worn fronts and fresh rears and ever increasing understeer. I was never going to catch Mike or Ian, but I could foil Mark every lap because the Lotus had a bit more power to weight. In the end I went slightly wide at the penultimate corner and then lost track of which gear I was in, meaning I took the last corner in 3rd instead of 2nd and the car just ploughed straight on. I expect you would have got by in the end anyway, but it would have been nice to see you try for a few more laps

Grats to Mike, Ian and MJ for the podiums  :thumbup1:

NOt enough practice here. Had tried all the cars, decided Ferri was the least painful at this track.
I've never liked this track in GTR2 and with that nasty triple chicane link is worse. Had been going through the tyre types
(I really should read the tyre manual one day) Ended up with red spot on the front to stop Front left from going
red after a few laps, with yellow spot on rear which made for an understeery, but easier to drive setup, was fine
for most of the race, I had Tinman hovering around within striking distance from the end of lap one until the flag
Had not realised just how close until I watched the replay. last few laps my rears were getting very worn
and it was hard to keep the thing at a decent pace, Tinman spent the last couple being carefull not to  thump
me up the rear as I tried to stay on line, he would easily catch in the last section but the Ferri would just
romp off down the straight. Was gaining on Ade at one point, but he re discovered his pace and pulled away again.
Track seems slippery to me, maybe they recreated the sand effect, dunno, but I don't get the "flow" here
it just seems to be one awkward corner leading into another.

Any plans to run enduro length races in PnG S2? I wouldn't necessarily want a series of them but the odd one thrown in would be nice.

Reason for not finishing unknown - what a prized plonker :stupid:  It was my first timed as opposed to number of laps race, I saw the time go - - - and thought what now  ??? so I continued.  Then I saw the checkered flag and thougth that's it then and quit - wrong.  Other than a short tussle with purdie I had a quiet race trying to stay out of everbodies way.

Looking forward to the next race.

Cheers Bill.
The biggest problem being that at half of the time, a timed race will end early to a varying degree as a lot of tracks are created with a timing issue ::) (unless 'Super Dave' tweaks the problem ones ;D)
The biggest benefit of timed races, is the ease/accuracy of weather generation files. On lapped races, weather is more like guess work or trial & error while making use of my fingers & toes ;)

So I'm not convinced timed would be better currently, think we'll stick to lap distance races for now :-\

R2P league always uses timed events. We never have problems. I'll also make a push for pit stops. They really spice up the races and put a strategy element into the mix. Force a stop with 2X fuel usage.
