It's okay to use any of the "Team UKGTR" skinned cars for the race, yes?

Lovely track! Just possibly a bit tight for mixed class racing :-\ & watch yourself if you get too close on the inside of the 2nd right in the double right-hander (before the main straight).

p.s. bring a spare pair of pants ;)

Hi Greg. Good to see you here. I'm sure you'll recognise a few familiar names  ;D

No sign up is required. The grids have been close to full recently but there is normally a few free spaces. All the race info and rules are in the first post.

Have fun.  :)

Been practicing here this evening, down to a 1:12.3 in the MC12, I'd like to take another second or so off that - not sure how I'm going to though, I'll have to follow some folks on Sunday Praccy I think!

Thats a hell of a stretch of tarmac though, very cool lap. The end of the lap is awesome, the section from the straight all the way to the S/F line. Not liking that hairpin before it though, haven't been able to sort a consistent braking method into that all evening, I'm losing time there, T1 and T3 I think, reasonably quick over the rest of the lap though, and not too bad in T1, but could be better I expect.

Looking forward to it though!

This will be a complicated race as the nature of all the corners is one line only and very high speed. Add that to the short nature of the track and we have a real test of all our drivers abilities to keep up good pace while being lapped/lapping others.

Had the chance to do some practice today, its snowed again so no work  ;D  Got the car pretty much were i want it, just got to figure out my strategy and manage my tyres well. The championship is a long shot but if results go my way could still be open at Dubai so i will give it my all this weekend. Hopefully some other members of team Supersonic can help me out with this one too!  ;)

Our team goal was the team championship so a good points haul in that respect is our first priority.

I seemed to hit a brick wall (metaphorically, and literally on a few occasions :D) with my Quali setup, can't seem to get down past 1:11.8, the setup I've got at the mo is running the rears a bit hot though - but they are softs at the back, so thats to be expected. I'll see if I can turn this into a setup that'll last for a race distance...

It will be interesting to see how the race goes tonight. I suspect that lap times will be very close amongst the usual rivals. Avoiding damage and silly mistakes may be the key to good result. At least the long straight provides a good opportunity to pass cars safely.

Good luck to the Supersonic boys tonight (the hedgehog team! Legzy  ;D) . Hopefully we can edge closer to the team prize.

Please be dry  :)

EDIT: Can we have the Cup S pretty please Dave  ;)    ::)

hello,

i did watch the weather forecast and it says for sunday...BEDECKT (german), perhaps CLOUDY in english, can it be rain if there a forecast like this, or can it only be a possibility of rain in the race, if in forecast i do read something like this.....20%, 30% or 405 chance of rain (snow) comes, where the 20% (and the other %) is in green letters.
if it only can rain if a number of percent in green i do read, then this race will be dry (hurra)
i hope someone do understand my question, hard for me to explain always what i will tell.
not sure if i can do drive tonight, no laps practise actual, but i know track and track is very very easy to remember again.

servus

Its that double right hander before the straight that keeps getting me, I can't get a consistent braking point - and when I do I have issues every few laps braking up the hill, car keeps going sideways on me.

I shall just have to be extra-vigilant whem I'm on the server, make sure I don't take anybody out getting it wrong!

Got a feeling this might be quite a tough race actually, looking forward to it though!

Then use the race password. :)

You know we're still on the practice password not the race one yet?

try joining public server & then trying ours again.

if that fails, try creating a new test driver profile (don't worry about it's settings)... join via that, exit & use your proper one again.

"Race { Conditions=60.00 OnPathWetness=1.00 OffPathWetness=22.00"

Lol, so no rain at the start but the tarmac will likely already be damp. Still no clue what will happen 30 secs after the start though!

Nae chuffed, had a few discos in Quali, so I jumped back on and just put in a time to get me ahead of the GTCs.

Halfway through Lap 1, disconnected. Most displeased...anybody else running GTR2/Win7 and having issues per chance?

Oh dear :(

Qualied 3rd and was looking good with heavy fuel when, on the 4th or 5th lap Peter disappeared in front of me :o ::) Checked the timings and sure enough they were all over the place, so I hit esc. Hope no-one suffered behind me.

I run Vista so not a W7 problem here. Seems to only happen these days when we have fullish grids ???

Hope others had better luck :)

I would have thought we learnt that in the two test races here. ???

Season to forget this one sadly. :(

Bah horrible performace.

Didn't qualify bad but I should've been faster. Race start, off at Turn 2, down to last of GT1s.

Was chasing Legzy and bob I think, that was fun but I made a mistake after we found a frozen Porsche in the straight while we were slipstreaming :o

After pushing a bit I got it wrong in T3 (a bit less sliding and I would have done the whole corner in rallye style ;D)

Hope you had fun

I knew there would be problems and didn't think I'd last too long, seemed i was right! most people seemed to be falling off, Goldtops frozen car didn't help, then was spending too long looking back as the GT1's catch you so quickly, that i ran off just as Jayblue came past and as i was going to take him out if i carried on, on the grass i thought i should hit Esc.

I'm sure if we do loads of races here one of them might go well! I admire you perseverance Dave. I'm sure there are better ones though.

Post by: Haiku on January 17, 2010, 09:51:20 PM +0000
It was an enjoyable race for as long as it lasted...the track is a bit narrow and I caught the curbs several times while making room for GT1 cars to pass and finally had an off at a blind corner.  Traffic was a bit thick and I believe one car clipped me while I was re-entering (sorry about that) so I finally decided just to end it instead of taking out a car completely trying to get back on the track.

I will try to make the next race.

so I kept going.

Well, more than a little chuffed with 2nd place! I guess all the laps I've done at Mosport during the last few weeks in iRacing have really helped, and for once I was fabulously consistent and had only a couple of minor moments of my own doing. 8)

GSI Bob's car completely freaked me out when it started warping late in the race; at one point he lapped me going into T2 just by warping past - had minor warp contact before T3 but survived. Then later he lost it in front of me coming out of the final turn and ripped the front off his car, after which he toured round with what was obviously serious damage, still warping somewhat, and my gap to Picnic and Prof behind, which had grown to over 15 seconds, was wiped out. Luckily I didn't spin and recovered the car with some minor damage before reaching T3, and stroked it round the last lap with Prof and Picnic very sportingly not pushing me too hard. :thumbup1:

Many thanks to the lappers for being vary patient. I found out to my cost yesterday that it's not possible to hold the outside line in T4 when letting a faster car through and had a humungous accident in the Late Model. :o I think the only problem I had today was when API was caught in two minds going into T2 and I shut the door on him - sorry, but I tried to let FreQ through there in the test race and it was the last thing I did. :'(

I should be in with a very good chance of 3rd in the championship going into Dubai now. ;D

Halfway through Lap 1, disconnected. Most displeased...anybody else running GTR2/Win7 and having issues per chance?

Nope, not beyond TeamSpeak/G15 integration being a bit ropey.

Was almost a good race, except the game seemed confused, and didn't count me in. People could see me well enough
so I kept going.

We wondered how you had reappeared on XD 42 laps down. If you can work out how many laps you actually did, submit an 'incident report' about it and we'll correct the results.

I think for next season we'll have to restrict the server to 26 slots. :(

Thanks Dave, but when I went for my pitstop, it dropped me out, so I hit "race" again, and I was back in the pits
with full fuel and new tyres etc, so my final placing would be unfair. In the 1st half, I had MJ behind me after his off
but with the dodgy pitting  perhaps you could just put me last of the runners for fairness?

I was in the pits. showing 28th of 27. I tried esc, and back in a couple of times but I was always in the pits.
so I came out of the pits when everyone set off and caught up the pack, the lap counter said 1 the whole
race, but I moved up the order as people left. I saw at least 3 people in joint 14th place for a while   :o
Was  a bit of a shame as I seemed to be on the pace for a change, but no matter, If I get counted as a finisher
that's cool.

I liked this track in GPL days and still enjoy driving here. The GT1s lapped very sensibly and I managed to avoid the worst of the carnage especially the static Goldtop. The BMW is not best suited to this track so tonight was damage limitation having smashed my PB and qualified only 4th.
Apologies to SbG but at least my second attempt to let you lap me was rather more successful. :) Somehow I managed to gather enough points to force you to turn up next week - at least the league table tells a truer story of the season now. I think the team championship will be rather closer though.
Congratulations to Jayblue and Ginsters for dominating wins and the other podium winners.

a race to forget really.  :(

Qually seemed impossible to get a clean run without meeting traffic and i couldnt get a decent lap in last 10mins.

Race looked like it was going to be a good close battle with several other GTC cars but on about lap 2 when i had the perfect tow on a Z4, the door was rudely slammed shut at 150mph resulting in a high speed multiple spin and smash off the barriers >:( The car was shaped like a 50pence piece and both headlights gone and i dropped to the back of the field. :(
Need to see the replay on that to be sure but you cant change direction on someone at flat out straight tow-speed.
But in the world of what goes around, comes around i was quite pleased to see my protagonist on the grass a lap later ;)

The car was pretty awful to drive after that (and so soon in the race) and half of the GTC grid seemed to get taken out or quit in the first 10 minutes  :( which left for a pretty dull race for me with no one to chase as was so far behind the top 4 by the stops. Gawd knows how they stayed out the wars throughout the race  ???

GT1 lapping was a real mixture, most were very patient whilst others seemed to think they had full right to cut up the GTCs in corners where we really couldnt go off line and we were forced over by GT1s zipping across into the racing line as we tried to make our way onto it. Trust me, a low dowforce 911 with worn tyres off line in T2 (that long downhill left hander) was no fun at all  :o and apologies to one GT1 i clumped in the side when the car went super light offline.

A couple of late spins with a car that handled worse and worse as the race went on nearly cost me 5th to E.Meyer but i held him off and finished 5th.
Got to say the Spykers are ridiculously fast for GTC class...werent they tested? They could catch and pass me like a GT1 on the straights. ???
Didnt really enjoy tonight tbh, a real contrast to last weeks two races.

my race was ruined when i pitted, mechanical failure in the pits  :'( what the hell is that about? i have never had that before, it took ages before i could get going again  :(

i was having some great battles around 8th place and i`m pleased to see the standard of driving is high in this league   ;D

one thing i noticed, some GTC cars were slowing in unexpected places to allow me to pass which almost caught me out a few times.

I decided to finish my race early after my strange pitstop so that i could have my dinner.

Was on a circuit that I like, weather was dry, made no mistakes to speak of, pits were no worse than usual and still got lapped by the leader. Not even JR was doing this. ::) Bring back the penalty ballast!

GTCs were great, even too acomodating at times - no need to go off the track, guys. Not even when 3 GT1s come screaming behind. :-\
H@l and Gazza were great as well. ;) Was lucky to overtake first one then the other at their minimum mistakes / slow exits on the exit to s/f line. T1 is a right hander and was able to keep in front both times. :)

Gotta say, considering how difficult that was, the GT1 gents were excellent. Personally, I thought the track threw up new and slightly different challenges than normal, for a start you had to be far more aware of others than anywhere else I've driven. Would like to use it again but it would be, perhaps, too tough in the wet  :o

Our main aim was the team title and it should be a cracker at Dubai :)

That was such a comedy race. I really should look at the replay before writing this as there was so many errors and comedy moments. However... ;)

As others have said it was hard to get the full potential out of the car in qually, so started in a very tight grid in 10th place. Ok, should go up from there in the race. But I was soon to discover that the Astons were a lot quicker in a straight line and it was all I could do to keep in their tow down the back straight. The one time I pulled out to overtake I just went backwards without the tow. Made overtaking difficult and sure enough after making a little mistake I was down another place.  ::)

I think during the race I understeer off twice at turn 2, took to the grass a couple of times at the hairpin and understeered and span at the right hander at the end of the back straight when Picnic waved me through on TS. This resulted in him spinning too and us making contact. Great teamwork. LOL.

I think I was last or second last after having a fight with ApexUSA in his Corvette coming to the half way point and the pit stops. Had a rough idea where the pit entrance was and I'd eyed up where the lights on pit entry were a few laps earlier. However I "misjudged it" (that's the kind version) and I went into the pit wall rather than the pit entrance.  ::) This was right near where Jayblue was pitting so he must have been laughing his head off, I know I was. ;D Reversed up, still alive (somehow not too much damage, :-\) and then drove to my pit box. Just as I was peeling into my pitbox one space ahead of Gazza, he started pulling out into the side of me and I had to do an emergency stop to avoid bigger collision. :o Pulled into my pits very slowly and at a jaunty angle to "help" my mechanics out with fixing the panels. ;)

Came out of the pits and a few laps later after most people had done their stops I had gained 3 places?! Eh? After crashing into the pit wall, having to repair the car, stopping twice in the pit lane and I still gain 3 places?! WHAT WERE THE REST OF YOU DOING?!!!! :D :-*

The last half of the race was far less eventful. I don't think I went off once and I was lapping at a decent enough pace to catch and pass Hal to finish in a completely undeserved 7th place. :-X

Firstly, apologies to MJ for my erratic driving on the back straight on lap 2. I wasn't sure at the time whether the series of shallow corners that make up the back straight constituted a single straight and therefore whether I only had a single move to defend a line. I was mortified to see you spin; I hate to end anyone's race :(

Anyway, as you say, I had my payback when Purdie (I think) spun on the last turn and I collected him and wrecked my steering. After a long pitstop I was dead last but ploughed on. Actually the car felt really good during the race but by this point it was getting a bit boring without anyone to race so I quit out.

IMO Mosport is a fun track to drive but pretty poor to race on, especially in mixed classes.

Sorry about that Simon i didn't see you and i should of been looking behind when leaving.

I enjoyed that race but ive never been more nervous of a track before. Was so hard getting a lap in qually so i cant imagine how it was for the GTC guys.

I did quite a bit of practice sunday morning and was doing 1.11.7's but i couldn't get anywhere near this in the race as i think i was practicing with higher temps. Car didn't quite feel right and didn't have the confidence to push especially in the fast sweeping corners and was to afraid of falling off hence slower times. Made a tiny mistake on last corner which let TT sneak through and he was obviously a bit quicker, could stay with him as he tried to get past H@l but once he did he pulled away.

Was reasonably comfortable in 4th so just tried to finish without any major offs.

Grats Jayblue, Berger, TT and GTC podium.

GTc's were very good tonight as that cant of been easy with the GT1's constantly passing

Fristly very sorry to McFids  :-[ .... after Goldtops car froze on the straight I glanced off it and then glanced off the wall. Altho not big impacts they were both high speed (end of the main straight!) and I was worried the suspension may have been damaged. I tip-toed round the last set of corners before catching the curb and spinning on the last corner, ending up sideways across the track and he t-boned me  :-\ .... I hated that feeling of driving past you afterwards McFids when your crawling along with your FR wheel sparking and damaged!  :( sorry mate

Quali was a bit disappointing to not get into the 1m16s, after doing it offline and getting low17s in practice earlier on the server. No idea how a 911 could muster a 15 to be with the Spykers! The tyres seemed to protest and overheat after one hard-driven lap so race pace was always going to have to be 'controlled'  ::)

Start was fun and enjoyed putting the pressure on Prof....side-by-side down the straight  ;) just before the above happened. With a new modelled car I carried on and crashed 10 mins from the end! Struggling to go quicker than a 1m19!  :(

In hindsight I should have pitted for repairs, especially at a track where aero is so important and I had a 'triangular' 911. Its just with such short laps I would have been 2 laps down (where I ended up anway  )

Shame cos I was loking forward to a good battle with MJ in the 911s.... hopefully Dubai will be fun and the 911s are more competitive against the Spyker (schmoke and a pancake)

Seems like I caused a lot of mayhem last night with my frozen car. I hit esc as soon as I realised what was going on, but clearly not soon enough. Apologies to all those who were caught up in the consequences. :-[

Can't help disco's mate. The funny thing was how good Prof's reactions were and how bad mine were! He had 5 car lengths at 130mph to react and he missed you, I had at least twice that! haha

EDIT: Forgot to say grats to Sbg.... great drive with great consistency and friendly flashing when lapping me twice  ;)

Nice race.

I qualified well and lost control a few times in the race as has been the case with all my races in the Saleen so far this season. ::)

I started off well enough but eventually TT caught me and I did not want to let him past as he was my main competitor in the championship before yesterdays race. However, he was very quick and very determined to get passed. It was not long before he had done just that. :(

He soon after did a well timed pass on a GTC on the left hand turn before the tight U bend corner. I had to wait until after the U bend to safely pass the GTC, by which time TT had built a gap and Gazza had caught me up. I started to fight Gazza and could not keep up with TT. Gazza also soon got passed and then the mistakes started coming. ::)

The race was not so good for me after that and I was passed by several more cars.

I had an issue with the pits as well. My box was near the end of the pit, possibly the last box. I was not getting a response from the crew at all after requesting the pit. I decided to stay out and see if I could get confirmation on the next lap. As I drove down the S/F straight, I saw some of my crew standing in the middle of the S/F line???!!!

I almost took avoiding action ( ;D) but then just drove straight through them. They should have know better. ;D When I did come into the pit (still no blue light) the crew were ready despite the fact that I just ran them over at 130ish mph.

Anyway, TT now has a massive gap over me in the championship and I am now fighting with nsfast. See if I can finish Dubai without crashing. :)

Well done podiums. :)

Thanks for apology Mcfids. I was a bit miffed at the time! I believe its pretty dangerous driving to move over and shut the door on someone as they are drafting past as it literally leaves you with too much momentum and nowhere to go. I probably would have been quite within rights (and safer!) to bump into the rear of your car, which may have seen both of us off, but i tried avoiding action which resulted in the car going into a rapid spin. :(

Arent we only allowed to change lines in a braking zone to block a potential pass ? Moderators on here will have to clarify that. Its too dangerous to jink across when about to be passed at full speed down a straight.

From someone with pretty mediocre driving skills compared with most around here if you decided to jink in front of me while I'm of the limit of braking you can expect contact  :-\ If one believes blocking is gentlemanly racing then please ensure you do it early enough for me to react, personally I'll drive a defensive line when in front but that's done in anticipation not reaction to someone else's move. If they have a run and I didn't anticipate it I won't change my line and block. I then hope I have the speed and the same courtesy back if I attempt a move.

I am not a mod so this is purely my opinion.

pulling over on someone as they are about to pass is a block and very dangerous. blocks like that are not allowed as far as im concerned.

changing line in a braking zone is also a very bad idea.

I enjoyed racing at this track for a change. There was some good close action at the start. Just a shame that a few drivers had to drop out due to technical difficulties and spins later on.

I was lucky to get a few decent runs in qualifying and was happy with my time which put me 9th on the grid. I took it steady for the first few laps trying to keep Shark and rest of the group behind me as long as possible, in front Apex and the leading group started to pull away. Then around lap 7, Apex spun I managed to get past. The gap then started to open up and I started to slowly catch Gazza and H@l with the just API closing up behind. I managed to keep around 3 sec's ahead of API until the pit stops. I pitted first, expecting it to be pretty close call when API completed his stop but for some reason I ended up around 15 secs in front. The second half of the race was a case of making sure I kept out of trouble. Very pleased with a 5th place at the end.

Many thanks to all the GTC's who were excellent throughout the race.

Congrats to Jayblue/SBG and the podiums.

Instead of discussing incidents here, why don't you lot go and actually read the rules? >:( The ones about passing, and the ones about not discussing incidents in public.

I actually had some time last week to practice properly for this one and knew a win was a must if i was to take any kind of hope of the drivers title to Dubai. I was very happy with the car setup and after doing some offline testing had noted the Aston was strong on the straights as Simon mentioned in his post. The 550 had a little more edge, maybe 0.2 on the long straight but i stuck with the Aston.

During quali i too experienced issues with the short lap and sheer number of cars on track but eventually i got a clear one and managed to hook it up pretty well. Berger snuck second late on so i knew i would need to be right on it from the word go. Luckily for me i was able to get a good gap at the start and from then on build a good lead. Nearly had a nasty crash when i followed Spanner off the road at turn two but recovered unharmed. After that i had a quiet race really, as usual the GTC's were all excellent at allowing themselves to be lapped, i didn't have one issue for the whole race with lapping, which is a real credit to everyone!

Had a laugh at Simons attempted pit stop from my pit bay as he hit the wall and also noticed some pit people running across the track mid race which was "interesting"

During the second stint the car was spot on and i really found a rhythm. So now to Dubai where i have an outside chance of sneaking the title - still cursing my two disco's earlier in the season... Congrats to Berger and TT and SBG, Dave and Prof on their podiums. Despite reading how some disliked the track yesterday i found it strangely enjoyable!

I think the only problem I had today was when API was caught in two minds going into T2 and I shut the door on him - sorry, but I tried to let FreQ through there in the test race and it was the last thing I did. :'(

No problems Dave. :)

The gap then started to open up and I started to slowly catch Gazza and H@l with the just API closing up behind. I managed to keep around 3 sec's ahead of API until the pit stops. Yeah, I made few mistakes just before pitting and my pit stops are usually pretty long (too much fuel etc.) . ;D
