Weather: dry.
Race Start Time: 18:00.
Good choice I reckon. There's no way my PC or my driving ability can handle the dark & wet together.

Might have to change cars though, the Aston destroys its tyres at every race & this circuit is more demanding (& enjoyable) then most :thumbup1:

Hadn't spotted the fixed weather  :-[ Lucky you guys did  ;D

I guess it means the temperature will not get stupidly high! Off to reset the server as I left it running variable weather last night.

This is going to be the first time I have raced on the GP version of this track.

First impressions are its a bit technical for my limited skills :o  I'm going to have to put some practice in.

Challenge excepted. Set sail. A boat race it is.  :boat:

I keep crashing that Saleen anyway. ;D

Weather: dry.

Does that mean we are not using the changeable weather at all? Understandable at thus circuit but, I for one really hope you are not going to use fixed weather much Dave. If you do, I will just have to get by.... Day by day(sigh).

Race Start Time: 18:00.

Superb! :)

It was excellent last time we raced here in the evening.

it will be the normal "Qually 2" settings for Dubai.

I think what the game does it time shift the session times to match the shift in the selected race time from the default. In any case, it'll be in the same conditions as Q2 is offline with an 18:00 race start.

Not sure I like Dubai but its a real stiff technical challenge for sure. Managed a low 59 in the 997 race trim but can't get very close to it in the Spyker, as yet. Maybe I'll use the 997 ;)

Will be on the server around half eight tonight.

i do like this track much, one of my favourite tracks.
i was between 0.2 seconds with lister, 575 and aston, looks like very equal cars this are.

So, I think my issues are related to using WiFi on this machine - I'm not in the position to be able to plumb in some Cat5 to run between here and the other end of the house, hence the use of WiFi - anyway, the connection doesn't drop, but when I just got disconnected twice in 5 mins on the server, I checked the signal strength and it was about 50% going by the graph, but it was operating at 24MBps.

I'm not sure if thats ~50% of the signal strength required for a 24MBps connection, or 50% signal strength, so the link bandwidth has negotiated down to 24MBps to maintain the link, I shall have to research it and find out, see if I can turn up the Tx on my router too, I'm on Ch. 11, and I set up my neighbours WiFi on Ch.1, so we don't have overlapping carriers, WiFi surver from my router suggests I'm clear of any other WiFi signals too.

I shall investigate in time for Season 12!

I use the homeplug units David as i would love to run cat5 around the house but would look too unsightly and have always had issues whenever i ran wifi.

I used to run these..
http://www.netgear.co.uk/home_powerline_adapters_performance.php

Anyway it seemd Bob was warping alot.

Was enjoying that, after finally switching on the G25 FFB affects :ninja: :whistling: lol I was a bit too forceful at times trying to defend from Matt but knew i could keep with Mcfids ahead. Sadly the leaders coming through helped spread it all out.

Actuall gave in as my brake foot is killing me! its going to take a while to get used to the extra strong pedal springs

Q.1...R.2

quali was ok.

i did a great race tonight, one of my best ever, i am happy with my speed, dubai is great track!
it looks like jayblue and me had same speed tonight in the race and perhaps i did loose it if the first much GTC cars to do lapping, is was suddently 5 sec. i think behind.
if we come to pistop i was perhaps 3-4 sec. behind and if we come out of pitbox i was 6.5-7 sec. behind, i did loose little time in pits because i was very close behind a GTC car in doing pitbox and i did not know when he will brake for speed limit and it did looks like he had same pit then me, but lucky for me he was 1 box in front, puh puh puh.
2nd stint was same as first, nearly same fast, sometimes i come little closer, sometime i loose a little, in one point of the race i had feeling i could perhaps can close the gap, but jayblue was to much constant and the more dark night was not easy for me, with the lights i was little confused.

congrats jayblue for win and strong race
congrats to 3rd simon and
congrats to GTC winner sponsored by ginster (no idea what this is??) and the GTC podium

good 4 races this was, see you next season

Cheers for quitting Bob, as I'm sure you were looking forward to that. Hope you get that sorted for next season.

Crikey, exciting way to end season there :)

Pleased to drive well around here as its a very tricky challenge and a very fitting venue for finale. It went as smoothly as I could have hoped for with only real excitement happening when Pete spun and narrowly avoided Simon and I  :o Fitting that Prof drove excellently to beat Andy and MJ too second place. He's not been consistently strong at every track, taken a real step forward in pace I believe and I've thoroughly enjoyed the fight :)

That said, the real goal has been Team Champs and I am chuffed with the result. A just reward for Eddie, JPV, Tudor and myself who have worked hard on improving our results. Like I said chuffed ;D

Thx to Dave, Pete and the moderator gents for making it happen. A full server through the whole season is a credit to you all. Congrats to all that took part.

S12? :)

Never enjoyed racing here and tonight just rammed that negative thought further home. I know everyone believes the Sypker is some super beast but I think I've proved that without decent setups and no talent it's not brilliant. I could keep up with the Z4 and Porkas on fresh tyres for about 5 laps before my setup went off and the car became almost undrivable :(

I must apologise to all those I hit tonight and spun in front of. It won't happen again as I'll not race Dubai ever again unless I can ever get at least consistent and that's very unlikely to happen. Glad this was the end of the season as a performance like that certain blows away one's mojo for all this :( Fingers crossed the iR race Tuesday goes better or I'll probably be suicidal  :-\

Awful race for me. Struggled for pace, as I have at all the low downforce circuits, and it became obvious quite early in proceedings that I couldn't brake anywhere near as late into the corner at the end of the back straight as others. After getting past JPV towards the end of the first stint (think my tyres lasted much better - he was locking up a lot), he ended up boxed in behind me by a lapping car, and I could only watch in horror as the inevitable happened and he ran smack into the back of me there.

I guess he quit - dead engine or just fed up? - and I pitted to repair the damage; only 8 seconds worth but the handling was off. In hindsight I think I should've hung on to half distance, as although the car was good for 35 minutes or so, once the rears went off it was a nightmare, and by the time we got down to the last 10 minutes it was desperately hard to hang on to the back in some places.

Sadly I never had the pace to help the team and it's gutting to see we missed out on the team championship by just 2 points. :'( At least my 3rd in the drivers was already sewn up.

EDIT: JPV, not Goldtop. All those Beetles look alike.

I use the homeplug units David as i would love to run cat5 around the house but would look too unsightly and have always had issues whenever i ran wifi.

Yeah, I use the HomePlug things too (four Devolo units in my case), absolutely marvellous bits of kit. :)

Anyway it seemd Bob was warping alot.

Yeah, sorry about that, Bob, but we really couldn't let you continue like that, you'd have had someone's eye out. :-\ It looked like the connection was in use by something else, pulsing every second or so for a while, then being smooth for a few seconds, then pulsing again. Might be something like Windows Update downloading patches?

I was no better than 4th fastest in GTC tonight but gained from late problems for Purdie and Jonzo to get second place. Thank you for the kind words SbG but I am still a class or two below you and not really competition. (I assume you meant consistently strong btw  :D)

Well it's been a fun and challenging season with plenty of weather to contend with. Time to say a few 'well dones' and 'thank yous'.

Well done to the two championship winners Gazza and Ginsters. SbG, it has been a pleasure watching you disappear into the distance this season and admiiring some of your stunning qually times and race pace. Well done to the other podium winners including my two Shark Gymer team-mates and Jay-Blue.

Well done to the Supersonic team for your GT1 championship and to the Kerbcrawlers who beat us Sharks by a single point in GTC.

Finally well done to all drivers on the quality of your racing and sportsmanship in some pretty grotty weather conditions at times. The standard of racing remains really high and is attracting a worrying number of aliens from other leagues (worrying in that this may be my only championship podium).

Huge thanks to Gizmo and Pete for organising such great league seasons and providing servers to race on and all people who have helped in the unglamourous but necessary task of moderating the occasional incident.

See you in S12 with a nicely painted Shark Z4!  :)

gutted gutted gutted.  :'(

Had 2nd place totally in the bag, only 9 minutes remaining after a faultless strong drive and my poxy pc went t*ts up  >:( Ive obviously got an overheating cpu or gfx card. It did exactly what it does when my IR goes pear shaped, instant drop to about 20fps and judder city, i couldnt even see the track edges and just had to pull off and retire  :'(

Qually was tight and Purds just pipped me by a 100th of a second, so was 3rd on grid.
Race start was nearly a disaster when i had a brain fade and put my lights on instead of the pit limiter off !!  :o Prof and the train behind must have wondered what was happening, sorry about that  :wetfish:

Chased hard after Purds for 2nd and really put the pressure on him after several laps. Then on lap 10 he cracked and i shot off into the dusk for the next half hour on my tod with a clear 10sec gap back to purds and Prof, whilst 30 secs behind Ginsters rocket ship ::)
Pitted on 50mins, all straight forward except for the tardy pit crew and was shocked to then rejoin as Purds shot past  ??? so his stop must have been much healthier than mine.  :-\
Chased him down hard again and with about 15mins left he ran wide again and i reclaimed my 2nd place. I then pulled a 5+ sec gap out on him and was just looking forward to finishing 2nd then the bastich pc let me down :censored:
Such a shame as was a great race long duel on one of my fave tracks with Purds and the track looked superb in the lighting conditions.

Something very odd going on - Picnic had ~1s pauses and I had a couple of long pauses too, luckily not in places where there was anything to run into. Most odd, although this is the first race I've done on my new Core i5 rig.

One of the more enjoyable GTR2 races for me, I'm not fond of this track, so did 5 mins testing in Ferri 430 and 5 mins in Viper.
VIper felt better. Spent all of prac and qual adjustin my race setup, should have set a bit more front grip, as the front left
wore faster than the rears (med fronts/hard rears) still got 2nd fastest lap in class I think, so was not too bad
Had great fun 1st half passing a couple of people, then spent most of the race chasing Spanner, I caught up a couple
of times, once got alongside, a bit of robust defense on the straight made me scowl, otherwise a good chase  8)

Oh BTW, you were warping quite a bit a couple of times, I had to lift once as you zoomed up to and then away.
only happened briefly, after that looked solid. Perhaps someone turned the kettle on.. TCP/IP over mains....?
get some cat6 strung around the house  :D

That was such a tense race for me. With all the effort the team has put in over the last few weeks, it all came down to the last couple of laps for the championship.

I had a race long battle with Peter, with both of us making mistakes and swapping places until he spun and I was through, for what turned out to be crucial points. Bad luck there Peter, the Spyker certainly looked very difficult to drive from where I was sitting.

After getting past Goldtop towards the end of the first stint (think my tyres lasted much better - he was locking up a lot), he ended up boxed in behind me by a lapping car, and I could only watch in horror as the inevitable happened and he ran smack into the back of me there.

I guess he quit - dead engine or just fed up?

I think you're confusing me with someone else there Dave. I was ahead of you all night ;)

Big congrats to all the race/championship winners, but especially (of course) to the Kerbies and in particular the mighty SBG for a great season 8).

I had this a bit in practice offline earlier in the week - never seen it before at any other track. I defragged my hard drives earlier today (even though all said 0%) and this seemed to stop it. Mine is a relatively new install of Windows 7 too.

In the race everytime someone left the server i had a slight pause, i was quite worried when i saw spanner quit :/

maybe the server needs a restart?

I still think it should be decided on results rather than attendance. Me and Simon have been saying that for a while.

In any case, congrats to Gazza and Jayblue for a close finish and some serious pace from the top 2 here. It's gonna be tough for me in S12 to keep up with you  :o

I wanted to say thank you for letting me jump in these last two races with your series.  Even though I crashed out on Mosport and I was distinctly off the pace at Dubai (never been fast there), I had alot of fun and coming back from a year off from racing, overall I was pleased with things.  I still remember the very first race I ever ran - it was with UKGTR at Monza about 4 years ago I think and succumbed to the 1 fps bug.  Hope I can continue to run with you guys next season.

Cheers,

Steve

After practicing for this race by watching some TV before hand I was as well prepared as always. ;) Picked my Barcelona setup and made some tweaks through qualifying and just before the race. Considering how far ahead JB and Berger were on the grid I was suprised there was nobody inbetween me and them which saw me start an amazing 3rd.

Unlike a few of you other drivers I actually quite like Dubai. It has all sorts of different corners, down hill, up hill, long straights, hairpins, fast corners, double apex corners. With the track being so wide it's ideal for racing these big cars and also gives you the opportunity to make mistakes and get away with them, or even just try different lines.

Anyway, from 3rd on the grid I saw Berger let Jayblue through for the lead and then watched them both dissappear into the distance. I gained an early lead on the cars behind but when Gazza got through to 4th he started closing me down. Nearing the pit stops and I ran wide somewhere and he took the position. Up to that point I'd just been in cruise mode and it woke me up and I chased hiim very hard up the pit stops where I was a car length behind going into the pits.

As expected my pit stop was shorter and rather than the bottom wiggle I give Truetom when I pass him I flashed my lights a lot as I passed Gazza in the pits with my tongue sticking out. Sorry, couldn't resist. :P

This gave me a 4-5 second lead which I extended to 7-8 seconds. I really put the hammer down after the pit stops (although I'm sure my lap times weren't much better) and with only 5 minutes to go 3rd was in the bag. Unfortunately Picnic thought he would impress me with his drifting skills and span right in front of me and Ginsters as we were lapping him. Luckily we both had our eyes on stalks by that point and our lightning fast reactions amazingly avoided any contact between any of us.  ;D

After that it was a bit more tense to the finish, but I gathered myself together and came home third still for an unexpected podium position in the race.

Well done to all championship winners and losers and to the team behind the scenes that make this stuff happen.

I still think it should be decided on results rather than attendance. Me and Simon have been saying that for a while.

I still agree with that. I don't think it's fair that a driver with 4 wins should be 2nd to a driver that didn't win a race should they tie on points. ;) Encouraging attendance is one thing, but I don't see why you need to be at every race to be the worthy winner. We all have holidays (well apart from Gizmo!) or races for one reason or another we simply can't attend or races where we have a power cut or disconnection or where the server is full so we're all gonna miss races from time to time.

I don't think we need dropped scores but I do think ties should be settled on performance not attendance as that just seems plainly fair to me. I don't see what we're acheiving by deciding ties on attendance. If you are in a position to win the championship you are clearly not someone that just turns up from time-to-time anyway so how is it helping anyone?

I had this a bit in practice offline earlier in the week - never seen it before at any other track. I defragged my hard drives earlier today (even though all said 0%) and this seemed to stop it. Mine is a relatively new install of Windows 7 too.

Mine was only installed on Wednesday - not much danger of fragmentation on a box that new!

I actually thought i had won the championship last night on race wins but hey i guess i should read the rules!  :'(

Congrats Gazza on the title, i'm certainly wishing my ISP had not let me down at Brno and Oschersleben now, those two discos really cost me. Although the Aston suspension bug at Donny also cost me points  :o

The race last night was a tough one for me, Berger as i expected had an edge on me in both quali and race trim but as some of you have probably guessed a little bit of team work meant i knew if i was close to him i would get some "help." As it turned out i got a good slipstream on the opening lap and was able to move down the inside into the hairpin at the end of the back straight. After that Berger shadowed my every move for most of the first stint, only dropping back when i got some lucky breaks in the traffic. After our stops he was able to do the fastest race lap of 1:50.9 which i found incredible as i really wasn't hanging about either, but again the traffic seemed to keep the gap at 6 seconds. I had one scary moment when Dave lost it infront of me and i nearly collected him but other than that it was just a case of being absolutely on the edge every lap, it was certainly a challenge to my concentration!

Congrats to Berger and Simon on their podiums and SBG on another GTC win and championship. Maybe some aliens should join you in GTC next season to spice things up a little  :P

Thansk to everyone here for another great season. I know the mods work very hard to organise and supervise the league and i want to reiterate how impressed i have been with everyones driving here too, it really is a great place to race, thanks all and see you in S12  8)

Since getting back into simracing after 3 months off, its amazing how much time and effort required to get back up to speed of the top guys  ::) and then to keep that standard for 80 mins.

I knew I wouldn't keep the pace with SbG and 2nd in quali still 2.7s off his pole!....was interesting (be 0.1s ahead of MJ)... funny how we all set our times early.

Kept it steady and had a solid start  :P but was fending MJ for the opening laps and a lurking Prof  ;) I flunked completely under the pressure and MJ slipped past and I managed to keep 3rd. Started with 70L so I could run a few extra laps and take on less fuel at the stop if tyre wear was going well...... it did and I pitted lap 22 for a fresh set of tyres and 55L... somehow I managed to jump MJ doing this  ??? (loved to be a cool Ross Brawn  8) over this, but it was a suprise haha)

Running 2nd again I had it all to throw away and did so, MJ regaining his rightful 'pace' position  ;D and unfortunately his network problems handed the position back again before a final spin gave a deserving Prof the 2nd step!

Good fun but finding the Cup Car a little slow at the mo..... miss the RSR  :-X .... is there a better 997 Cup model about? The shape is a mutated version of the 996 Cup Car and doesn't quite look 'right'  ::)

Grats to SbG and Jayblue for their wins and Gazza49 for his win of GT1 Champ  O0 and SbG for his GTC Champ  O0

Can't wait for Season12  8)

cant believe you threw away 2nd to Prof after all that Purds !

I didnt even see you pit, prob because you were behind me, but yes was surprised to see my 10sec lead wiped out in the stop  :-X

Will say sorry to Jay for a scary moment (good reaction, btw :P ) and to Berger - I didn't know it was you behind as another driver with the same car / colour was sometimes behind, sometimes in front and sometimes to the side. :-X Grats to podys in race and Season.

No problem i had noticed that i was sometimes a little more "conservative" on the braking point for the hairpin than others. I was just glad you didn't decide to try and swerve to avoid me - i always watch my mirrors in those situations and normally get away safely unless i have to turn in otherwise i miss the corner completely! I think experience has taught me a lot about how to avoid accidents rather than become one  ;D

Well i have to admit that i thought the title would go to the one with most wins, but hey i'll take it  8)

I'll probably never have this chance again and coming 2nd twice behind Freq in previous seasons, does feel a little hallow to win it like that.

My race was so nearly all over before it began as Greg behind me forgot about the formation lap and took off when the green lights went on (well done for missing me)  :o After that i knew i had to get past Apex to get the 4th spot and try to chase Simon but it took quite a few laps to get by him. Once i did i got in a good rhythm and started closing on Simon who made a few mistakes and i got past just before the halfway point. We pitted together but i knew he would jump me as im terrible at pitstops and i came out 4 or 5 seconds back. The gap started rising and i didnt deal with traffic to well, had a hairy moment when a GTC missed his braking point and hit me but luckily didnt spin me  :o and then later on  i found a GTC in the middle of the track and it must of been millimeters as i went round.

With the traffic and Simon driving well i could catch him, was down to 4 secs at the end but he was always in control i suspect. Shame i couldnt of caught him and had a good battle there coz that would of been exciting.

Grats to Jayblue and Berger, you two really were from another planet, those times were amazing. Jayblue has been awesome in every race this season and my money is on you to win s12  8)

Grats to SBG for GTC title.

Crossed the line in 6th eventually, not quite my highest finish of the season (nicked a 4th at Donni) but definitely the most enjoyable race of S11 for me.

First third of race I was glued to H@L's rear bumper (wit not one single rub between us ;D) & finally I was able to use my Aston's cornering to squeak past his Viper :sweatdrop:, only to find TT had suddenly come back in range with a minor moment on his part. So I was stuck between a Marcos & a Viper :o with about an inch either side till the halfway pitstops . Some how H@L managed to jump me in the pits by a cars length & then TT came out... of the pits a fraction ahead of both of us :taz:

From then we had a bunch of laps where those two were swapping places & I would get along side, but couldn't hold it... truly amazingly enjoyable stuff from my POV (& again not one single rub between us either  8)). :fencing: Great driving guys!

Eventually managed to duck in front of H@L & keep it for a second time, but while I then started to edge away from H@L, TT was doing the same to me. But I guess his Marcos is even worse on tyres then my Aston, because with about 8 mins left I started pulling him back in. Then I think some confusion happened between TT & which one of three white Aston's (Jay, Jose or me) was behind him & he went wide as we all scuttled through with 4mins to go. Felt confident I'd be able to hold off any fightback, but was looking forward to the fight... so was a shame to see my rival exit out shortly after. Great to see you back in the Marcos TT, it's where you belong mate ;)

Really chuffed that our little Oldie's team  has managed to achieve 2nd spot in the GT1 Team event. More then we could have hoped for really & a great team effort with all of us chipping in points at one time or other. 8)

Congrats to the Hedgehogs SuperSonic team, you've just got too much talent for us. Good solid season long fight with H@L & Gazza too from the Pink team. Congrats to the Kerbies in GTC too, unlucky Sharks in a good close finish.

Well done to all the runners & riders, Gazza & Ginsters on their titles 8).

Thanks to all involved in this season, be it driving or organising or something.

It's "maroon" like an ancient Oldham bus - Maroon and Cream, good victorian civic colours...

Might go back to Marcos if the season goes really badly for me just for fun. ;)

I actually thought i had won the championship last night on race wins but hey i guess i should read the rules!  :'(

Me and Gazza were discussing that for a while on TeamSpeak. I was saying 'its probably on race wins'. In the end we had to get the rule book out. It clearly says in rule 1387X of Appendix 402A, sub section D8IZ; In the event of a draw, team shark have priority as they are pretty much 'Ferr - shark - ari' and team Psuedo get second dibs because they are so super cool and awesome. ;D

truly amazingly enjoyable stuff from my POV (& again not one single rub between us either  8)). :fencing: Great driving guys!

Yes it was most fun. :) I had a little giggle when I jumped you in the pit, same when we both caught TT. Some great driving indeed. 8)

The track was boring to practise on despite being quite technical but, it has always delivered a good race for me. Last night was no exception. Here are a few clips:

Loved the moody night lighting. :)

I'm a bit ashamed I didn't really drive the C6R yet, so that will be my ride for S12. :)
Might go back to Marcos if the season goes really badly for me just for fun. ;)

The C6R is a great car. It is the car that I have been most competitive in, I would say. I want to give mid engine another go so I will be in the Lambo or the MC12 next season. Most likely the Lambo because its easier.

Well done Gazza, well done SBG (stormed it), well done team Supersonic and the creepy crawlers. Team Psuedo get 3rd in both championships, well done Team! Darn oldies beat us by a very close margin in GT1. :P

Thanks to Dave and all organisers for a very high standard of organising and thanks to drivers for a very high standard of driving. See you all in S12 which will be soon helpfully. :D

How dare you compare us to Ferrari-scum, they're nothing like as bad as we are! :P

Forgot to say I really liked the dusk to night thing in that race, it felt right at Dubai for some reason, very cool and atmospheric. I don't think it works everywhere, but definately does in the Middle East circuits (all one of them that we have ;)).

Surprised we don't see more C6's out there. Its straight forward and rewarding to drive, and competitive, especially over race distance.

I really, really can't believe I'm gonna go down the same path, again, but seeing the MC12 around here (funnily enough it didn't last long ;))  rekindled my interest ::) I've got unfinished business with that thing but, at my age, I really should know better.

Presuming there will be GT1 in S12?

Cheers for the Homeplug suggestion, might be worth looking into.

I'm hoping we'll have some fun/test races between now and next season, 'cause I've just found a long run of Cat5 I had in the boot of my car, I've crimped the ends and I'll have to test it at some time - it runs from one end of the house to another, the father won't mind that for a few hours on a Sunday night. Its under 100m, so its within spec - should work alright!

Cheers to UKGTR staff for running a pretty slick operation, and for giving us all a place to race!
