Title: UKGTL Season 9 Stock Car Challenge - Heartland Park (Short) - Feb 16
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on January 25, 2010, 07:40:26 PM +0000
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Tuesday night ;)).

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (80 mins)
Qualifying: RANDOM GRID
Race: 20:40 (26 laps = ~30 mins)

Track: HEARTLAND PARK (Short) Download here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54520#post_HeartlandParkTopeka)
Cars allowed: From the Stock Car pack (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_stock) Shelby GT500 (290kW)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: Standing
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: UKGTL SCC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=238&theme=5)
(5) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Shame I missed LimeRock (looke like Indycars at Brands may have won out there) but been away in LA for work and just flew in yesterday, despite Air France doing their best to ensure I missed a connection at Paris.  Jetlagged so thought I'd try to learn the track....and a short phrase comes to mind.....front right tyre wear  :surrender:

Lotsa understeer, and the car is a sluggish nightmare in the final part of the track.  But the track is good and wide for some stock car panel rubbing.

Pretty random lap times overall, but low 20 at the moment.

Guy's, following Lime Rock I'd like to issue the following "advice". By all means battle hard (side by side) but please try to avoid front/rear contact as often the result is exagerrated to the victims cost. So tiny taps and nudges by all means but nothing more robust please.
Thanks
Tony

Totally new track to me & after about 4/5 laps, I've done 1:24. But lots to come off that I think.

Bring a map & compass to get out the pits ;)

This is the track the SCCA uses for their runoffs (national championships). I haven't driven it before, but from watching on TV it is clear it has 2 faces. A fast section early and a slow tight section late.

My best so far is a 1:22.3. I won't be going any faster.

1:19.6 best so far, fairly regular 20s, that is about the pace for me.
Front right is 111deg, but is still drivable in the 20s after a dozen laps.
Don't have XD in GTL so no idea on wear, is probably high, might do for more front grip in anticipation of
more understeer later in race.

Lapping at regular 1:20.5s in race trim. I'd estimate FR tyre wear to be around 25 to 30 by race end which shouldn't be too bad. A frustrating track to hotlap in these beasts, but should provide good racing as long as it doesn't get too bargy in the slower section

Be nice to see a decent turn out for these races :thumbup1:

Pit exit LOL, They have little hand written signs showing you the way, nice touch "Track ---->" but it's a bit like
trying to find the M62 when escaping from Liverpool, they show you signs until you are almost there.... then
the signs dissapear  :o

The last sign points down the gradient and to the right on a parking area; at the very end are cones to guide you left onto the track.  ::)

Haven't done a GTL race in ages.
So far I'm liking this car/track combo. Best of 1.21.1 so far, could be better if I get that t1/t2 right.

I'll be there tomorrow night. But my gpl league also runs on tuesdays. So I'll only be able to participate for a few weeks, until next season starts.

After quitting out of a lap my GTL broke, and was not going to let me rejoin.

Hope you all have a good'un

After I was spun out on the opening lap I got a little to aggressive in trying to make time back. I spun two cars on consecutive laps. After that I was too disgusted with my driving to continue and exited the race. Sorry to whoever I hit.

Had a great start from the back and was then taken out before even reaching T1 ??? Ended up on the wrong track which put me way down when I eventually rejoined. Lost interest and quit after a couple of laps.

I know this is stock cars, but it's pointless racing under these rules. We may aswell have figure 8 racing, it's much more fun.

Actually was fighting for position with Legzy, PR (I believe) and some others and then, then..  :'(

Apparently my car was flashing before the race restarted both times, don't know whether it caused it or vice versa.
I think I was the only one driving the #13 GT500, that could also be related.

Was interesting starting mid-pack each race. There was certainly some rubbing. I dished out a bit of side to side action too, but nothing that would take anyone out. In start #2, someone went way, way left to block me (no problem here), but missed the brake zone and drilled another car. Not sure who was involved. The mixed grid is going to shake things up even more than normal with cars on different pace and braking points mixed in the field.

Too bad we couldn't finish. I take off of work to do these races. In the future... it may make sense to have a stock backup track in the event something like this happens. The R2P does just that in situations like these. We've had to use it on more than one occassion with P&G.

OK, so it seems like it all went a bit Pete Tong tonight. Sometimes it doesn't matter how many ways you test tracks, you only really know if they are trouble on race night. I hope most of you were able to have some fun.
Unfortunately as I wasn't there I don't know if the results are correct or not but I'm sure you will tell me  ::)
Also the replay file gives me CTD so I've not even been able to watch a race.
At least next time it's at Portland where we have raced before.
Hope to see you all there, and once again my apologies for this evening.

Really... that's pretty fast considering we didn't have a qually  ;)
So a bit of a surprise anyone has a "qually" time.

Tony, I think you've posted the results from race 2 there... you need to swap it to Race one mate, when everyone was there (despite me finishing last ::)).

p.s. sorry again PR. :-[

You were right next to me at both race starts Tibs & you looked fine both times to me. You drove pretty well too, from what I saw 8)

Mike, could you PM me any tracks that you can recall that had problems from else where please. Can only help us. Thanks

Does that mean the replay currently available is also the wrong race?

Hmm, not sure how to delete the existing results  ???

Turn the race from Championship to Fun, then you can delete the event and recreate it. ;)

EDIT: or you can leave the current one in as "Fun" so it shows up here too - you'll have to blank out the SMF topic column from the current one and then add it back to both at once.

Lovely track/car combo IMHO!

Race 1: I was hit when we had 15 seconds of race, falling into last place. Was recovering well
with a cool and nice fights with a few drivers, Matt, Alex and another one or two.
Just when I got 6th place the track reloaded.  :D

Race 2: I was hit when we had 35 seconds of race (it was me Mike), falling into last place. But this time I had hit ESC key.

First time I was in 3rd, second time I was in 2nd, it wasn't to be my night for sure.

P.S. No problem Legzy.

Yup, Bill was the man ahead of me not Tibs. Maybe it's linked to that 'flashing' you said your car was doing Tibs? :-\
