Title: UKGTL Season 9 REPLI-race - WATKINS GLEN (GP) - Apr 20
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on January 26, 2010, 10:55:40 PM +0000
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Tuesday night ;)).

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=237;theme=5)
(5) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Just to remind you GTL fans that the poll for choosing next seasons main event has only one more day to run.

And I can tell you that it's mighty close between three choices  :-X

I know nothing about the 935 and 934, are they similar to the 906? And what is the BMW like, is that just a powerful version of the standard CSL?

934 is like a normal 911, 935 is a turbonutter 911ish animal with big toothypegs, which only unusually talented drivers can master.
Turbonutterbeemer is a CSL version of the 935, and slightly less maniacal.

Well here's my take:

934=911 on steroids. Big turbo lag, 4 gears and prefers not to go around corners. Quite fun, but not a competetive choice in this series.

935=911 on even more steroids. Unbelieveably quick, but likes to go around in circles if you don't treat the throttle with care.

Gr5 non turbo is like a very quick CSL. A joy to drive, but lacks the speed compared to 935 and Turbo Beamer....

Turbo CSL like the Gr5 but a lot quicker. Again big turbo lag and judicious use of the throttle required when exiting corners.

The Glen is a great track for the 935 and Turbo CSL. Hope to see you there :)

;D Goldtops descriptions are spot on, but I personally find the turbo lag less noticeable on the Beemer. The Porsche will break your wrists!

Another day, another enduro, another cock-up.  ::) Worried about fuel consumption with my setup so I went for a factionally higher gear race setup.  :stupid:  It was like driving a different car and my braking distances were too short  ??? so I cuffed the Armco and messed up the suspension.  :hammer: :hammer:  Another early bath.  :boat:

Bad luck Marco, you were flying.
I made a poor start, went with auto clutch for safety, Phil and Tony coasted by, but I got 'em at the 1st turn
and proceeded to hassle Ade for the next 6 laps,  :fencing: finally got past after he slipped up, and made a small gap
Caught Nav and Paulo near 1/2 way, couldn't quite get close enough to try for a pass, and then it was flashing
blue light time (no not the Cops) went into pits at end of lap 18 in 4th, came out 5th, Ade had somehow put his mechanics on
speed, and mine were dawdling, could not believe my luck when Paulo and then Nav both had to pit a second time
I did last lap with the blue light flashing but made it ok to luck a 2nd place  8)

Great fun at this track with these cars  :thumbup1:

Couldn't face 70 mins with the nutters, so opted for a leisurely drive in the RSR. Had a nice little battle with Alex, but was soon spending more time in my mirrors than looking ahead as the turbos started lapping. Inevitably I missed my mark into the fast corner and had a big off, which put me in the pits for seemingly endless repairs.

Ended up running out of fuel in the pitlane while trying to make a splash/dash late on and watched everyone finish as I tried to roll sloooooooooooooowly to my box. ::) Edit: Hope this didn't cause the delay in posting the results :-[

Congrats to pody and finishers and hard luck to CM.

Can I remind all drivers that swear words in chat will not be tolerated.

Also please always observe pit lane speed limits during all sessions.

A big congrats to Ade,Matt and Paulo for being the top finishers. I had a wonderful battle with Paulo through most of the race. Very fast, smooth and consistent mate ;)  I had some lag related frame rate issues around lap 3. Got very bad at one point so Paulo very sorry if I got in your way at all. I was just trying to keep her on the track and not crash(I did hit the wall a bit). Then after about 1/4 lap it cleared up and I was on my way again. Then I screwed up in the pits in 2 ways. Forgot to setup not to fix the small damage on the front wing/fender. Then not taking enough fuel because I was going off the fuel gauge(no XD on this install) which was right on half full at the halfway point so I put just a couple of gallons in it. Apparently it is optimistic gauge. Or maybe like so many real cars the last half tank of fuel on the gauge always seems to go down faster then the first half. So maybe it is a true Sim :-\ Either way I had a great time racing with all of you fellas again :D. The mixing of GTLDK and UKGTL has truly been a great success ;D

Exactly the same that happened to me with the fuel gauge Navin, when I had pit I add only fuel for more 5 laps which I thought would be enough for the half fuel I had at the time.  ::)

Anyway, this time my strategy was not so good as previous races.
For the first laps I was trying to pressure Marco, but then I remembered my usual strategy and stopped to drive near the limits to safe fuel and tires. Navin was always close to me and I believe he was at the very same strategy, because when our gap spread a bit he closed fast on me again, but never tried to overtook me, unless on the minor mistakes I have done. On the other hand, I was doing the same when Navin was ahead of me, stay close, waiting for a mistake but never triyng to overtake. I must say that Navin gave me many confidence for driving close without any danger, behind or ahead. Very good driving, perfect lines and fair duel. Not easy on these 935 rear tires eaters.  :)

Things began to going better when the gap for ADE and Matt were increasing and Marco got his pit stop on lap 17. I thought he would stop one more time and as the pit lane at W.G. is huge would be enough to get him on last two laps (well, at least if I wouldn't done the fuel mistake on my first stop)  :P
But indeed it was what I thought at the time. Unfortunately Marco got a disconnection and my doubts remains.
All in all, was a very pleasent race night always with full atention at Navin. Great race!

Congrats ADE and Matt and ofcourse Navin for the great driving and work, he could finish at the podium aswell, I was lucky this time. Well done to all finishers.

I hope in future, GTL races have also pit stops strategy, undoubtadly adds more real feel and interest to the race. Well done Tony.  :D

Cheers

A good race indeed. Seems there is some imbalance with the 935 and Turbonutterbeemer for either size of fuel tank
or consumption, or both. I went to pit at the end of Lap 18 with the red low fuel on and the blue pit light flashing
yet the 935s had almost half a tank left, Tony seems to have got the race lenght just right if it forces everyone
in the turbo cars to make a stop, though a 935 stop at less than half a tank is a good deal less time than the CSL time
to fill up completely. I now understand why Ade jumped me so much in the stops.
maybe the 935s are immune to the 2x fuel? something odd there for sure.

Your not wrong. One of the turbo's has a greater fuel capacity and the races were set up to force both types to pit at least once.

Dijon plays host to the final round of this marmite series.

And with three drivers and three teams hotly contesting the podium places their going to be as keen a mustard to get this one underway.

Tuesday 18th May is the date of the final round of REPLI-race, due to our GTL 4th Birthday event on the 4th May. Hope you will all join us for some cake and racing.

Tony,

Are we allowed to use our custom skins in the GTL series?

Thanks GT, for not letting me all alone with the stock 911 nut being lapped by these monsters is quite a thrill.

Yes you are. See Note 3 of the Announcement. However there will always be someone who gets errors cos they haven't downloaded the skin pack so generally we haven't been using it. Most drivers have been using the turbo mods hence no use of team skins.

With only one more race to go in the series it seems hardly worthwhile to make an issue of it now.
