Title: UKGTL Season 9 Stock Car Challenge - RIVERSIDE (Nascar) - Mar 30 DUSK RACE
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on January 27, 2010, 12:00:20 AM +0000
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Tuesday night ;)).

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (80 mins)
Qualifying: RANDOM GRID
Race: 20:40 (20 laps = ~30 mins)

Track: RIVERSIDE (Nascar) Download here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg109873#post_riverside)
Cars allowed: From the Stock Car pack (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_stock) Shelby BOSS 302

Time of Day Setting: 18:00 DUSK RACE
Start: Standing
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: UKGTL SCC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=238&theme=5)
(5) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Tony,  I have tried a couple of offline races against the AI's starting at 2200hrs.  In first race I just nudged the back of another car and lost my lights - impossible to race without them.

In the second race I was hit by a car returning to the track with same result - lost my lights.  Don't know if the Boss is more vulnerable than other cars but it doesn't bode well.

Maybe you can check it out.

Laurie

Thanks for the heads-up Mr L, I will look into that asap and report back. However I think you can drive without lights here, it's quite well lit.

Have you tried learning the track in daylight first Laurie? I've just had a blast round in the dark with no lights on and it's not too bad with the track lighting, helped enormously if you know exactly which way the track is going to twist and where them damn concrete tyres are.

This is a fantastic circuit. Too bad they dug it up and built condos.

It's more difficult for us oldies - we need more light.  :wheelchair: Also, more importantly is when a faster car catches you - it is invisible out in the bondu.  I shunted Ian off a couple years ago in an enduro on one of these USA tracks - can't remember which one now but I found it very difficult concentrating on where you are and driving in and out of illuminated and dark track.  ::) ??? (Missed braking points and kerbs or this case those supposed tyres).

Guys, due to your concerns over things that go bump in the night I have now re-scheduled this race as a Dusk event.

Hey guys. I remember last time me and Mike had problems with non-standart skins. I've already installed 1.8 skinpack but still have probs. Is there any extra pack i should download?

For this race we are not using any skin packed cars. As long as you downloaded the stock car pack it should be ok.

Was really enjoying that (love that Boss) & doing well in 5th place. Then at the start of lap eleven I got smacked in the rear on T1 & span. Mr Drake waited, but my car was damaged from the incident & I span twice in successive corners half way round that lap letting both Drake & Tony past. Had no interest in completing the race after that.

 >:(

(nice combo though Tony :thumbup1:)

My apologies Legzy. I drove about 10 laps some 2 seconds behind you, and first time I got close to you, at T1 you caught me out by being much slower in the middle of the corner than I expected. I had nowhere to go, and tapped you which sent you into a spin. Should have been more careful.
In the end a steady drive got me 4th place.
I might have a problem attending the last two races, as UKGPL and this division overlap.

Replay and results now posted.

That was great fun, I love that random grid, Bill was 3rd!

But how did Oily rig it so he stayed on pole ???

Sorry you had a tap Legzy, I couldn't believe my luck when I rounded the corner and you two were waiting for me

And Phil, you took your time didn't you! ;) Leaving it right until the last lap to loom large in my mirrors  :o but then I saw you spin and could relax again, phew

With just two more races to go, Pribeiro looks good for the trophy. But it's still possible for API, Phil or Matt to provide an upset, especially as the next two events are probably the toughest yet.

For the Team trophy, Prodigy are looking smug but they had better watch out for those Crawlers who could still snatch the prize.

Grats top three, nice dice PR/ Sqter - should probably point out Ade would have almost certainly been in it if I hadn't clobbered him on the main straight where he promptly jetted off to the moon. Apologies again.

 :wetfish:

Good combo WT, lovely to unleash the Boss properly....while it lasted  >:(.

Crazy race.
After the small ADE & mr_oily misunderstanding I got a lead of almost 10 seconds just to blow it 5 laps before race end, by hiting the wall at the triple chicane  ::)
The steering was a mess, to drive straight I had to pull the wheel to the left.  ;D
Charged on Sqter and managed to pass him on the penultimate lap.
Thank you both for the nice and fair scrapp.  ;)
Well done Sqter and API. Unlucky ADE and mr_oily.
Lots of fun driving at Riverside as usual.

Cheers

That was great fun, I love that random grid, Bill was 3rd!

Got my come uppance there for my inattention in P&G last week.  :hammer: Tried to make my grid position count and pulled away lovely on the green lights.  :thumbup1: The car in front didn't move,  ??? I lifted and away he went my engine died on me.  :cursing: Slipped the clutch and tried to coax the engine back on the cam only to be shunted from behind into the Armco.  After that it was disaster and I had a number of offs - suspension dodgy.  After I had to turn around behind the Armco and cars started streaming by I just quit.  tumbleweed

Hopefully I didn´t cause any problems at the start, we had some argumentational activities going on at home, I had my share of the shouting, couldn´t concentrate and ESCd out. This season has gone really badly from my part, but gladly TP is doing well without my contribution anyway.
