Something not quite right with the banner though, underneath the UKiR bit, or is that just my work pc fooling me?

I could obviously lengthen it and do it higher res.

Here's my idea, can only describe it sat at work.

UKiR in similiar font to the iRacing.com on their logo but the bloke with the arms out would sit directly behind inline with the 'i' with the red and blue background enlarged each side. If i get chance i'll butcher an iracing logo in word or something.

We can use any of the logos in the media pack as long as we attribute it with;

“iRacing.com^TM is a trademark of iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations."

It would be good if could include the logo, by itself, 'UKiR' is a bit meaningless.

Good design Paul. Can I suggest:
1) That "spirit" starts with an upper case letter.
2) That the UKiR text doesn't go right to the edge, but there is a small border that continues the background colour.

P.S. I don't think we should use the iRacing logo, we don't do that for the other games.

Not bothered either way (though it - the whole thing - probably needs to be slightly less wide), but I suspect the 'official unofficial' logo doesn't look like that. Has anyone actually got (or requested) the 'media kit'?

That text isn't on the logo itself, it's 'real text' inserted on top of the header. I can make it say anything we like.

2) Not sure this will be right - the whole idea was to divide the colours into 2 with the letter K. If I do this then there will be a small blue-red boundary which might look off.
PS) I put it there for balance really, but also because of this statement:

When we get the media pack it can perhaps replace what I put.

Btw, do you think the main UKiR bit would be better if less flat, perhaps with a bevel?

Something else to bear in mind is that my intention is to restyle the UKiR pages, along the lines of the UKGPL ones (but less green ;) ), so the logo doesn't have to fit with the SRou grey-blue colour scheme. I was going to go with blue and red but we'll probably get accused of looking like the iRacing site (but more professional, obviously :D ).

I don't think we can be accused of mimicking the iRacing site, just using a couple of themes (the colours of the logo really). We can ask Tim what the interpretation is on that.

OK, I've got the media pack. Reading the doc it seems we need to display their 'unofficial site' notice. Not sure if this is needed if we don't show their logo. If anyone wants the pack, pm me your email addr and I'll send it over.

I like, the second one. I think the border of colour around the letters is better and as the red continues the lines of the K that still works.

Its clearer, but less stylised, and to me a Logo should be stylish. I'm easy though on which one to use. Any other opinions?

Can we go with Lazlows? If so then we don't need the unofficial banner anyway as we are not using their logos. Personally I'd prefer to have the iRacing logo in there (not the website url though) as it makes it clear that this is the iRacing section. Not that fussed if people don't want it though.

Purely because most people won't see it. The point of putting it there (to me anyway) is to make it clear that this is the iRacing bit of the league, and this won't happen if people don't see it. I also think it would add some nice balance to the header (putting my novice graphic design hat on).

On that reasoning though I think we should put GTR2, GTL and GPL logos on the other headers. I think it should be all or none and I don't mind which.

• the 'tagline' is added as text, and besides, that's SRou's tag line, not UKiRs... ;)

Right, neither of those things were apparent to me, or I wouldn't have been posting all mine with that form factor and strap line.

If what you want is a small Logo only then I think you want something much more stylised, more along the lines of my original one but without the strap line. Like this:

I like the one currently in the header (the one by Lazlow, in case it's changed by the time you read this ;)). Now we just need the forum style to change to be red white and blue like the GPL forums, except not green. :)

OK, to me, Logos are more than just some text on a square background, and that is what we are left with imo. To my eye it really looks like it has been chopped short.

Only because

• you know it was longer; and
• the forums stylesheet needs updating so that it fits with the general colour scheme.

From what i can see its the UKi forum as its chopped off the rest.

What browser are you using? Looks okay in FireFox 3 and IE8 but the logos in the top left have always been done as background images in table cells (don't ask!) so if you've got a low screen resolution or a 'funny' browser it might well not show up quite right.

No, not really. I have to dabble in graphic design (I'm not a graphic designer though by any stretch of the imagination) and I have to discuss elements of visual designs and layouts we use with professional designers, so I've got used to certain principles of layout. What we have atm breaks a bunch of the rules, specifically it is far too symmetrical and square. When we had the strap line it provided a nice sense of asymmetrical balance as opposed to a very conventional and rather boring symmetry (big text right in the middle of a square). Isn't one of the Legends boys a designer? Be interesting to hear what a pro thinks.

As a Logo, I thought Wiltshire Tony's offering was pretty good.

I was looking at in a 1024x768 window using ie7 as we now have free'er access via a vitual desktop type thing at work.

I'm now confused, we have two seperate logos at opposite sides of the screen now. So what happened to the bit the middle? Actually like the full length one.

That was Paul Wright (PaulW). He's not been around for some time, he quit simracing I'm afraid due to health problems.

It does look a bit oddon my 1920x1200 screen with the UKiR on one side and the iRacing logo on the other and a big space in the middle.

I think it looks really good.

I like the larger size of the UKiR text in the first one best...great job!!

It wasn't in the middle... it was on the left. It was just longer.

It wasn't full length either - it just happened to be most of the width of the average screen.

On a lower or higher resolution it would've looked daft. Once the style has been adjusted to blend it in to the header, it'll look better as just a logo regardless of resolution.

I like the first one of Lazlow's new designs too. I'm just slightly concerned that the very bold red and blue will be hard to blend into a forum style that isn't hard on the old peepers...

Cheers chaps, glad you approve, I think it could probably be adapted fairly easily to do some consistent looking variations for the other sims if you want me to have a go?

Anyway yep no probs making whatever tweaks you like so just shout. I'd be tempted to stick with the official iR colours though ya know - I think it will work ok but the rest of the forum style sheet just needs to compliment it.

I suspect you could get a nice clean look if the backgrounds throughout were predominantly white and the navigation panels etc in shades of grey - in a similar way to the official iRacing forum. They use the strong colours very sparingly, so just blue for the text of selected headings and the vast majority of text stays in black. Very little red, just literally used for accents.

There's probably no substitute for just playing around with it until it looks somewhere close to what you're after.

Consistency isn't really a requirement when the purpose is to give each league its own identity. ;)

Both are quite possible - you simply keep a consistent theme ;)

For example, one approach would be to keep the "UK" part of the font, and the layout/ positioning of the left side and vary the right half to create an individual identity. You could incorporate different colours, even the game's logo, in fact the majority would change but each would still be instantly recognisable as being a part of the SROU family of leagues.
