Title: UKGTL Season 9 Stock Car Challenge - Thompson - Mar 16
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on February 14, 2010, 05:01:56 PM +0000
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Tuesday night ;)).

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (80 mins)
Qualifying: RANDOM GRID
Race: 20:40 (20 laps = ~30 mins)

Track: THOMPSON Download here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg109873#post_thompson62)
Cars allowed: Any car from the Stock Car pack (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_stock) except the BOSS302  plus the GT350's

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: Standing
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: UKGTL SCC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=238&theme=5)
(5) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

The location for this track is 40 minutes from my house. Too bad they dug up the road course and left the roundy roundy oval. The oval is in this layout too. You can find it on your left about midway through. You can also drive around it if you like. Be sure to reduce your shadow settings to medium for this one. The shadows from the trees at the end of the lap are brutal on all video cards known to man.

Advertised as the toughest track in the USA!

Yay found the oval and did a lap or two, rude not to. Although my frame rate dropped to the low 20's I experienced no judder and that's with all eye candy maxed out. Even the woody shadowy bit seemed fine however it could be a different story with more cars on track. I'll test that offline tonight and report back.

I found the Cuda hard work around this track, doable but hard work. So I'm going to change the car choice to give you all a choice.

How'd you like the bumps on track from frost heaves?

Stock car pack includes Shelby Boss 302. Is that car really allowed? Cause I just tried it, and got 1.32.4 with it right away.

So far
1:35.9 in Cuda
1:36.7 in Big 500
1:38.8 in either 350, though the 67 one is less fun.

Sqrtr joined prac earlier, his graphics card can't cope with the trees (7300GT) i turned shadows off on mine to stop the
annoying trees flashing on and off as I turned corners. frame rate is fine.

I thought that turned into a cracking little race considering what a tough circuit that was. Well done everyone who turned out to give it a go.

Was a good one. was VERY difficult to keep the rear behind the front for the last few as the tyres were jelly, fell off one time
too many as API and I were experimenting with how many times we could fall off and still beat the other  ;D I lost the bet.

No problem Marco.  :)

Nice track, I enjoyed it.
I would like to know if I could hold Mike, unfortunately the incident with Marco, let Mike get away.
Marco and Cosworth were clearly faster than me, but with a similar cars, I managed to hold them,
by using always the apex and the power exiting corners, thats why sometimes I had break earlier
to avoid miss the apex. However, I believe soon or later Mike would passed me, there was enough difference between our paces to achieve it. But would be very challenging for me undoubtedly.
Congrats to Mike and Cosworth and well done to all.

Cheers

That was a very difficult track to pass on. I don't know if I could have got by you PR. All I can realistically do is pressure you into a mistake and maybe rough you up a bit, but even through that, if you hit your brake points and stay online, it would be very difficult for me to get by. This track doesn't lend itself to a good overtaking brake zone. The only reason I got by Matt was I pressured him into a mistake.

Thanks Tony and Matt for persuading me not to quit as I was having no success at all.  I managed to get things together and put in a series of practice laps virtually all on the black stuff.  In the race 4th on the grid; made a reasonable start but soon lost all the  places I'd been given on the grid.  Managed to get things together again and put in a new PB a second faster than practice time.

Finished 2 laps behind Mike - at least I finished and didn't wreck my car.  Sorry folks but I had a mishap approaching T1 too fast and wiped out the 200 and 100 marker boards.
