Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=227)
(5) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(6) Remember that P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function, but our gentleman's agreement is that everyone will stick to a speed limit for the pit-lane of 40mph/60kph.

We've hit bottom folks. I'm interested in this race because I don't think I've ever driven any of those cars. Even the track is new to me.

aaaaaarrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh!

A couple of my favourite cars...and I can't make this one :(

Have fun.

This track has bittersweet memories for me. It was my first proper GTL event as Co-Director and my track choice but the network bombed out so we had to have two short races instead of the one long one. IIRC it was Tina's, Alfa's and Facons.

But it was a seriously great track. Looking forward to a return visit. Thanks Legzy  :thumbup2:

I seem to remember a cracking race here in GTL I think I drove the Falcon, and Phil drove his customary mini
Well, you will probably find the cars underpowered Mike. but they work for me here, they are for me at least
remarkably well matched, Just done 4 laps in each with a quick setup tweak, and did:

1:09.5 in Mini
1:09.6 in Arbarth
1:09.7 in Tina ( I assume Cortina GT?)
1:09.9 in Big Squealy

I drove in reverse order so I would be a bit quicker in Squealy.

It looks like work is likely to get in the way of my fun again. I've got a 4:00 PM EST (right around start time) meeting with clients. I thought I may be able to make a run for at least 1 championship, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get my way. Enjoy the race guys. I may practice with you at least.

Phspok has cheered my up, I'm only just over 0.2 sec off his Cortina GT time.  My Abarth time is about 1 sec down and I couldn't sort out a faster conforable setup for the Mini and the Healey was hopeless.  So I think I'll go with the Tina as that's the nicest drive.

Next some Yank Tank muscle.

Bill

Well let me cheer you up some more then Bill
Not sure if it's track temp or just practice, but I had a few laps on line at lunch and managed 1:08.5 fairly easily
in both flavours of Squealy, didn't have time to try any other cars.
The Healeys are a bit odd for gears, the older ones have 4 with an unfriendly gap 2nd - 3rd, where the later ones
have 6 gears  :o and 4th 5th and 6th are very close top speed for me is identical at 111 before braking for T1
the older one seems slightly more wayward, but I think I prefer it.
I don't like the PG Minis, they handle very odd to me, and are nasty compared to the GTL version which seems "normal"for a Fromt wheel drive.

I love the P&G Mini. You gotta raise the rear bar and ride height to make them slide and then use the front wheels to pull you forward. They are a hoot to drive.

Just as well cos the Mk II is not available.  Agree with you on the Mini - I couldn't get the front to tuck in and drive thro' the corners.  Raced the 1310 Mini here with the Antipodeans and that was brake down a cog or two and floor the throttle all the way thro' the corner.

Bill

I think that Matt is refering to the flavours of Mk1 Healey Bill.  There is a '60 version and a '61 version.  One of the latter apparently had overdrive on 3rd and 4th to effectively give it a six speed box.  Not really needed at Lakeside.

Sounds like my 1:07.3 is ok until the tentacle brigade get going.  ;D

Hmm the way these lap times are tumbling were approaching 35+ laps which is greater than the default fuel range for all but one of these cars.

Think I'll switch to the Cortina

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 2 - Classic Cup - Lakeside - Mar 4
Post by: Mike Miller on February 27, 2010, 05:09:55 PM +0000
So you're saying the only car that can make it without stopping is the Cortina? If so, it will be a 1 mark field.

I think that I have found generally that one is able to do more laps than the game thinks you can on a tank full.

Well the Healey is definately borderline, you could be crossing the line on fumes

There is every chance that I won't cross the line at all!  I'm having to be a bit brutal on the downshifts.

Just had a few laps in the Mini 8) 1:06.72 is my best up to now (don't do what i did and use your 1310 Mini setup, you only end up with 3 gears and 4th doesn't do anything) will give the other cars a go but I'm having too much fun in the Mini ;D

                                                                 Cheers Ade

Edit:-  Looks like a little bug with the Mini setups, if you load a hand crafted one it only gives you three gears so just drop them down a cog separately in the garage and you'll find fourth.

My lack of knowledge of the Healeys.  I've only driven the Mk II and 4 spd Mk I

I'm no expert either Bill.

Is it actually possible to set up an AI race with the  Healey mk1, mini 970, Ford Cortina, Abarth Gr2?

If so please do tell.

I'm down to a 1:6.8 in the Healey but want to know how the race is likely to pan out.  I've tried the mini and it feels that they will constitute a multicoloured and highly mobile chicane for the Healey to negotiate on the straight.

Post by: Wiltshire Tony on February 28, 2010, 11:15:44 PM +0000
Sure you can. But until someone brings out Car Manager for P&G you just have to put a * in front of the .car files that you don't need so it looks like this .*car

Then you can limit the cars in each group that you don't need.

Nice time Ade, I'm about the same in the mini too, with the healey about half a second slower followed by the 'tina, not tried the Abarth yet but they're all little screamers around here!

In fact, if you give the bloke in front a thump it will probably go thump, thump, thump...............all around the circuit until the bloke behind you gives you a clout!

I'd hope mid 5's get you near the front as I'm some way off that  :) Are you suggesting the Fiat is fastest Clive? Will be on server later tonight to try a few.

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 2 - Classic Cup - Lakeside - Mar 4
Post by: Clive Loynes on March 03, 2010, 09:50:14 AM +0000
Nope, I'm guessing that the Fiat, with the lowest power to weight ratio, will be the slowest but that you aliens will be able to use it to be 1.5 seconds a lap faster than me!   :wheelchair:

I have no idea about the Fiat to be honest. I'm having so much fun in the Healey it doesn't matter anyways.

Comparing drivers and cars from pracci sessions this looks like the closest race so far this season and the it may throw up some suprises. Promising :)

Don't know if I'm getting my sums wrong but I reckon that the Healey will do about 60 laps on a tankful.

Perhaps I've got the mixture leaned off too far.

Last night I tried to run P&G for a few laps. Just when the screen changes to black to start the game,
I get a CTD with a windows error message.
I went to the P&G main folder and had copy/past the .exe file without success.
I even reinstalled the 'no CD patch' to the main folder, it didn't work aswell.
Windows XP home edition SP3 here.
Any sugestions that allow me to fix this for tonight's race, please?  :-[

Post by: phspok on March 04, 2010, 09:58:42 AM +0000
Mine CTDs every 3rd time I try to join an on line game. That or booted as possible cheat
Is this just on line or off line as well?
Try to make a new player and test it. People have talked about deleting/remaking .player files before

If all else fails it would be quicker to do a 2nd install and copy your setups over than spend hours troubleshooting.

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 2 - Classic Cup - Lakeside - Mar 4
Post by: pribeiro on March 04, 2010, 10:13:02 AM +0000
It's when I execute the game to begin Matt. There seems to be an issue in the .exe file.

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 2 - Classic Cup - Lakeside - Mar 4
Post by: phspok on March 04, 2010, 10:27:59 AM +0000
Oh I see. well stabbing inthe dark then....
Try to change the settings for the file, like ownership, compatibility setting might have somehow been turned on
Is User account control part of XP can't remember, but maybe something has happened to the permissions inthat
directory. right click the file you think is an issue and check it's not been set to read only.

It is probably something really simple, but, like I said, if it's not obvious I would just do a 2nd install.
Or, maybe you could run the update patch programme again - GTR2_1100_WE_Update.exe
that would overwrite the .exe or many of the files it depends on.

Mine does exactly what you describe when I have changed the game graphics resolution, as I sometimes use a friends monitor
It gives no error, just dies. Do the game setup and set it to what you normally run.

Would not have thought so, however I have wasted hours pratting around with GTR2 PG GTL as every time I work
away I use a friend's monitor and I have to reset the game resolutions at his, and then back at my house
I have been doing it without thinking now for so long I forgot what happens if I don't

Quite fancy this as the last GTL race here was an absolutel blast but seem to be struggling to find my groove somewhat!

Are the Abarth and Tina also capable of 1:06's!? I didn't do a very good job of driving the Healey so couldn't comment on that but felt I was slinging the Fiat about reasonably ok and was struggling to break the 1:07's!!

Hope you get it sorted PR!

Have you tried running the setup and matching the resolution to your desktop resolution PR?
also try setting DX8 or 7 instead of auto

The only one that broke under 1.8 time was the MKI, but I feel that I can't handle it for all race consistently.
The slower is the Abarth, due to lack of top speed, but very nice to drive around.
Cortina and Mini are in the middle, I wonder how the front tire wear will be in the Mini and the Tina seems to be too heavy. Oh well, no more time to practice, so I guess I will throw a 4 faces coin to chose.  ;D

I've driven the Fiat, Mini and Cortina consistently in the 06's. I've tickled 05's in the Mini and the Cortina. I've seen others in low 06's in the Mini as well.

Clearly need a lot more practice and some setup expertise wouldn't go amiss, I'll have a throw of your four faces when you're done Paulo ;)

The Mini is probably your best bet Mr Oily.

So long as you can do the FWD thing it gives the easiest fast ride.

When driving the Healey the minis seem to get inside and appear from your door pockets just when you thought you were getting it right!

Unless someone chooses something to be different (nowt wrong with that IMHO) On pace it will be a battle between
Big Squealies and a horde of 970S minis like piranhas nibbling at their flanks. I can get better consistent pace in the mini
though I fully expect to have Healeys sail past with a 10 mph speed advantage on the straight.

Here is my Mini setup. Check the fuel. It is close, I created before knowing how many laps the race would be. Try to not let the car slide. Follow the black rubber marks on track to the letter. Think about this while driving the Mini - "The shortest distance between two points is a straight line". You don't always need to track out while using the Mini.

Cheers Clive, Ade was trying to talk me into the same thing last night but I'm not a big FWD fan I must admit.

Thanks for that Mike, will give those settings a go although I actually quite fancy putting some more time in using the Abarth still if you reckon it's capable of a lot quicker but will have to see if there are some others up for the challenge too so I've got half a chance of rubbing some door handles tonight!

It's nice to see you back Mr_oily,. I am tempted to drive the Cortina...god knows why...

Aww you say the sweetest things Paulo   :-*. Will park the Mazda up for the night I reckon.

Seriously though, I thought the Tina would be a dead cert as it's mighty in GTL but I cannot get it to stop understeering and gimme some goddamn tail action!

That happens to me if I've updated my graphics drivers or directX(it usually changes the graphics settings to one not supported), just run the game config and change your settings.

                                                    Cheers Ade

The Cortina would have been my 2nd choice. For me, it is the 2nd quickest car.

Same here, Mini quickest by some margin, although the Cortina is pretty good here, regular 1.06's in both.

I'm not going to make it to the race guys. Work is getting in the way. Good luck to the Kerbies.

Arghh ... yet another DNF for me :(  got bumped a litlle, nothing much, but then stupidly had to chat np mate instead of just racing on  :stupid: and got so distracted, that I ended up spinning in front of 4 other cars --- pressed escape to avoid a mess in that turn.

T'was a great combo though  ;D

:) Had a fantastic scrap with Ian early on but the Mini is just not quick enough in a straight line, I tried to hold on for as long as I could but he was pulling away slowly.

And so it carried on, I drove that mini's little wheels off all race! There were some hairy moments for both of us lapping cars but on the whole everyone was most generous, thanks!  ;)

Congrats once again to Ian, good win.  ;D

Excellent race, I was gifted a good start, then also was lucky in a traffic jam towards the end
I should have put the gearing lower, I was only hitting 7k by the end of the straight, and the other minis were picking me off
down the main straight, no matter, It was a train with CLive up front trying to keep up with Lorenzo, me Ade and Geoffers
playing tag as to who would hassle CLive, I suspect if Clive had had a wobbly somewhere and we all got past he would not
have caught us easily.

Cheers Matt, good win indeed. That was a very hard race. I pretty much drove at my 100% from the get go, knowing that one mistake and you were through. Very tough and rewarding race as a result :)

Looked like there were great scraps throughout the field and I'd say that the best car/track choice for fun so far. Even though people had their own concerns they still let me pass when they could, excellent stuff. Less chat would be nice though ;)

Sounds like I missed a good one. Nice result for KC and Clive. Congrats on the win Ian. Fantastic pace from the Mini Madd. You were quicker in that then I was. I, like Ian, focused my efforts in the Healy.

Yeah great track  ;)  Made a great start then just drove across Geoffers path  ( sorry).   Then tried to fight back but was driving beyond my limits .

Grats Podium.

Great race for me - Had an awesome start from 12th on the grid, probably gaining about 4 places on the run to T1. Got lightly tapped on the rear by a mini in the second half of the corner (I had to back off due to the wall of cars blocking the road ahead!) but aside from loosing a brake light wasn't slowed or damaged.
Then got mugged repeatedly throughout the rest of the lap when cars infront crashed/span acrosss the road infront causing me to go evasive. Started lap 2 back in 12th again after all was said and done  ::)

Managed to fight my way back to 8th fairly easily, then passed Ade when he made a mistake. I then put in my FL while trying to hold his mini off but lost speed in an acciddental drift out of T2 on the following lap. From there I spent most of the race clinging on behind Ade, Ian Robey and Geoffers at about a 2 second gap - we later caught Clive up but I half span in T2 somewhere around the final 3rd of the race dooming myself to near enough zero chance of beating 8th.
Great fun otherwise, the 'Tina was a hoot once I'd overcome the understeer - and then overcome the wild oversteer my remedy created!  ;D
Ended up with an almost neutral car that could be mostly controlled on the throttle and had great fun trying not to waste momentum from lap to lap

I made a good start and ended up going from 6th to 3rd, with my teamie, Lorenzo just behind me.

After a few laps I made a mess of the second to last corner and whilst I could have defended it I took the opportunity to let Lorenzo through, expecting him to disappear into the distance.  But he didn’t.

That meant that I spent the whole race fending off Ade, Geoffers and Matt whilst also keeping a respectable distance from Lorenzo, so that we didn’t hit each other.

I was a nervous wreck by the finish and on the last lap Ade actually managed to pass me on the outside of the last two corners but thankfully the Healey had enough grunt to reach the line before Ade could.  Hard luck Ade but if you will drive Mary Quant’s shopping car what do you expect?  ;D

I wasn’t at full tilt because I didn’t like the noises that the engine made when I changed down at the end of the straight when running in qually mode.

A brilliant result for the Soggies and with Ian clearing off for a couple of weeks we can only hope that Mike keeps getting these business commitments on a Thursday afternoon.  Think I will have to make a few phone calls.   :shifty:

It was well know that the Austin fleet would be faster.
As I have posted before, I didn't like the Healey driving even if it was faster.
So, I decided to chose between Mini and Cortina. But...I went for something more
challenging albeit after my usual 2 laps parctice found it the slower of them all.  ::)
In the end I enjoyed it, in a more twisted track I bet the Abarth would fight for a podium place.
The lack of top speed was a pitty, specially for its direct opponent.
I had lots of fun with the duel with API for many laps, it worth to see the replay.  :)
I'm happy with the final 9th place and the 1st of the no British cars.  ;D

Once more, the backmarkers were fantastic, even when I cought Bill, Laurie and Sandor fighting
each other. You three have done a great job.  :notworthy:

Congrats to the podium and well done to all.

Cheers

Another totally enjoyable race for me as I battled with Bill and Sandor - thanks guys for making it such a good night.

Not really one of my favourite circuits but have to agree it does produce great races. (A little disappointed that PR didn't put on his aerial acrobatics as he did last season in GTL  :w00t: :whistling:)

Congratulations to the podium and thanks to everyone who turned up.

Another hard but enjoyable evenings racing - nice one Tony and thanks folks for all your efforts in the race.  Made a good start and was OK into T1 but had a nudge on the exit and hit a spun Abarth - sorry for the push but it seemed the quickest way for both of us to get going again; then I threw it away by running wide and letting you through.  After that I put my head down and drove, passed a couple of cars and then caught up to Laurie and had a long battle to get past - that was great Laurie.  Sorry for the nudge, so I let you back through and I resisted the temptation of jumping onto the end of a train of cars you moved over for -  I wanted a clean overtaking. Once again we stayed close for the rest of the race.  Thanks for your compliments PR, with my Cortina GT faster than your Abarth in a straight line it was difficult to find the best place to let you through.  It was much more difficult to judge where best to move over and lift for another Cortina at times -  particularly since Laurie was driving one as well.

Congrats to the podium and see you all Tuesday - well some  of you GTL fanatics, for the real fanatics tonight on GTLDK.

Bill

Well it was kinda fun driving the Abarth but it was driving me mental in qually that despite feeling like I was hooking up decent laps was well off the pace.

Took me until lap three to realise I was having more bloomin' pedal problems with only 96% throttle on the straights! I knew it was linked to the earthing problem I'd been having so decided to yank the earth off half way down the straight. Unfortunately this caused total brake pedal failure instead lol - nice trade ;). Wiped out at T1 and it was game over.

A real shame I couldn't mix it up with my fellow Abarths at least but thanks to the Oldies and co for putting on a good show for me to watch from the pitlane. Was actually planning to bugger off to Laguna Seca after retiring but watching Legzy battle his bent and oversteering Healey with Lazlow's slightly less bent Abarth was enough to keep me entertained!

Highlight for me was the car park scene at the penultimate corner lol - I've never seen anything like that before, 6 or 7 cars all bunched up within inches and all seemingly having their own "mini-moments"! Hilarious.

Grats SBG and podium people - not forgetting PR and WT bringing home some strong finishes for us of the green persuasion.

Oh yeah, Monaco in the Elan is brilliant btw but that thing is somewhat "unique" in it's handling characteristics! As I'm writing this it just occurred to me I'm out for the old man's birthday next Thursday....Legz you're really gonna have to move it for both SBG and I ;)

Probably the most petty boring dull race. Only good thing was I wasnt last, I improved my laptimes by max 3 secs during the race over qualifying, ok I had odd 2-3 offs during the race, but thing that annoyed me most was I had 7.4gals = 39laps, yet it said with 1 to go I was out of fuel???

No worries Dan, I didn't know if you turned in a bit early or got forced over by another car. It all happened so quick I couldn't avoid spinning you around.  :(

Great race, all action from beginning to end. Tremendous tussle between the Mini trio of Matt, Ade & me all trying to find a way past Clive's Healey. We got a little spread out at one point until we came across a group of lapees which closed us all up again. Unfortunately ended up at the back of the group at the flag, but had a whale of a time  ;D.

Congrats to Ian, Madd & Lorenzo. :thumbup1:

cya all at Monaco in Ian's favourite cars  :D
