Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=235;theme=34)
(5) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(6) Remember that P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function, but our gentleman's agreement is that everyone will stick to a speed limit for the pit-lane of 40mph/60kph.

You should also bear in mind, that your worst score of the season (or a non-attendance) wont count. So your best 7 of 8 races for example.

Thanks for that sage advice Tony.  :P

Perhaps Mr Mestdag here could do with my extra portion, to make him regular!

Hi guys!
I tried with the Elan in Monaco, and I was surprised about the chance to race here without doing so much mistakes with the pad! I'm gonna race this one because I always liked this track! At the moment 1.53.0 for me with race fuel, but I can make at least a second better... probably my laptime limit will be a 51.5 with qualif fuel... or something like that... Hope to see someone of you for some training in the late evening.
Bye bye :)

Hi there,

After turning down every possible graphic option available I simply couldn't make Monaco playable on my equipment. Unless I can find a way to make it playable I won't be able to take part on this one. For the time being I'm not going to be there this time, sorry guys.

PS: Apart from SPA, all of the default tracks run fine on my rig even with most graphic options on high in some cases. I guess the addon tracks are more detailed or something.

My rig: AMD [email protected] + 1Gb RAM + GeForce 5500 256Mb + old 160Gb IDE HD :-( on Windows XP Pro

My system's not great & I can confirm that Monaco is probably the lowest dos we'll see this season.

If someone wants to start a separate thread on setting to change to make PnG faster, I'll sticky it for ease of future access.

Hope we see you Thursday... Or at least the one after that if not  :)

I'm not that much better off than you Rafael.
cpu is XP3200+ and my gfx card is a 7900GS and I do have 1.5Gb of RAM

I run in letterbox mode and have dropped to DirectX 8 at Legzy's suggestion when I had problems initially.

I run EnditAll and Gamebooster before launching PnG, including a defrag of the game folder.

Graphics options as low as possible and on 1680 x 1050 resolution

Hope that helps.

MoTeC suspension readings are a complete waste of time in PnG Clive. Even on the softest spring/damper settings the histograms remain blue for all cars from what I've seen. Either the suspension on these old cars is not sophisticated enough, or more likely, the suspension parameters in PnG just don't translate to MoTeC readings. It's one of the things I'm hoping for in V.3, but I'm not holding my breath.

1:48.7 ::)

Not quite on Clive's pace yet  :-\ Best so far 1.49.1, but a 48 is definitely in there as I was 0.6 off my previous best at the first split on that lap!

Great car on this track & I usually hate Monaco.

Post by: Clive Loynes on March 10, 2010, 10:31:33 AM +0000
If I'm reading it correctly, always a risk, then when MoTeC glues together all my very best bits then there is a 1:44.883 in there.

Which just goes to show what a mess I'm making of it at 1:48.4!

But plenty of room for the "tentacled ones" to slither into the 47 and 46s.

I must say that the Elan at this version of Monaco is pure joy compared to the 67 GPL version and the Lotus 49!  Particularly at the chicane!!!  Love the sense of acceleration coming out of Mirabeau!

Did a bit of practice tonight. Love the track, not the car. The Elan is an odd duck. It is suited to this track though. I don't like it's twitchy nature and I'm finding it difficult to find a setup to my liking. I've got a meeting tomorrow afternoon, but will likely make the race. I don't think I'll have much more practice time though.

I have tried a few laps last night, but after 2 laps I just quit, I was strugling and having no fun at all
driving this car at Monaco. Huge understeer (worst than a FWD car) and lots of oversteering when exiting corners. A nightmare. I guess I will race only for the team points with the fun factor disabled.  :P

Post by: spanner on March 11, 2010, 10:10:34 AM +0000
I want to know what your setup was PR, at no stage would the car understeer for me! The easy nature of the elan in GTL bares no relation the one here, its far too tail happy. Any of the braking areas and the back comes round as i'm turning in, any movement in the steering wheel while trying to brake sends it around. Whether its to do with no brake temps not sure but even on 55% bias it still does it. I've tried max dampers on the rear to try and slow the movement and max on the front to stiffen the car it has little affect.

Post by: pribeiro on March 11, 2010, 10:41:26 AM +0000
It's a bit odd to me, honestly, it seems that I never been able to setup the Elans, GTL or P&G.
I have huge understeer while cornering even with no throttle applied. At the exits I have lots
of natural Elan's oversteering, last setup I tried was with really soft suspension and low power/coast values.
But I just can't feel the car right. Undoubtadly a car that doesn't suit my driving style and poor hability I guess.

I should ask Ade.

He was lapping in the 1:46s last night.    :'(

It looked very agressive and he has promised to stuff it into the Armco before the end of the race.  ;D

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 2 - Shot Glass Challenge - Monaco (1979) - Mar 11
Post by: Geoffers on March 11, 2010, 01:08:19 PM +0000
I find the brake bias setup is really critical on the Elan, just a small change can make a big difference to the cornering. I'm using 61/49 at the moment but still need to be a bit gentle on the brakes to avoid locking the fronts. A click or two more to the rear makes the car very unstable, whereas a click or two more to the front & the car won't turn. I'm using 20/80 power/coast diff settings, although I think I could come down a bit on the coast.

Funny how two people can have almost completely opposite problems with a car.  ???

Hmmmm...      I was having stuttering problems too, which is unusual for me. Tried a few different settings, but no better.

Hate Monaco in real life as well as sim world. Lots of hype over what is frankly a ridiculous place to race around and one which should have been assigned to history years ago imho. As for my race; clipped a barrier going up through Rivage on lap 1 spinning me across track and hit esc hopefully before I caused any damage. ::)

Hope others had a better time.

Monaco or bust eh?....unfortunately i bust !  :-[

was having a good race up until Matt lost it in front of me and ploughed into my car  :'( but was able to continue with just body damage and chase the pack once more, albeit with lost time and places.

Fought my way upto 7th or 8th? past a few cars despite the odd hiccup like people typing just as i am about to brake for a fast turn  ::)...kiss in the bar after if you have to say sorry etc to each other.
Had a nasty clash with the armco later on, turning too tight at T1 and damaged my suspension so badly the car was crabbing around the track. Lost all my hard fought places and pace and slipped down about 5 slots on lap 14/15. Car became almost undriveable and had to park up with only 5 or 6 laps to go  :(

Well seems like I'm the odd one out, because I really enjoyed that.

Fought tooth & nail with PR from start to half way (when I forgot to brake for t1 ::)), but we'd traded placed about 5 times already & it was just truly great stuff. Move over Mansell & Sena ;D

When I saw the low turnout, I remembered that I don't think it was overly popular the last time we did it in GTL. Obviously a bit of a marmite track. Might be worth putting on the back burner for a while... it's not like we're short of other excellent tracks to race 8)

Chortle
Was having a good race until I lost it and MJ ploughed into my car  ::)
Spun round got going again, caught Alex, went up the inside of hairpin, instant stop/go
no cut tracks before. Caught and passed some, passe MJ and Hotkeys as they had
come off, passed Spanner as he seemd to lift out of the tunnel, I went left through chicane
he went right and caught the kerbs and launched into space, hated to see that in mirrors
thought maybe there was contact but felt nothing. Then caught Alex again who lifted
big time into the chicane and I did Spanner's trick, launched into space landed with
bent car and onlt 4 laps to go, steering well bent, but managed to go some
next time out of tunnel frozen black screen which didnt come back after a couple of
secs, so ctrl/alt/del out of it
Didn't really like the Elans here, was tempted to quit several times, only stubborness kept me going

p.s

This mod rerally is frozen fish fingers, it crashes to desktop, dosent let you in, then booted as possible cheat 1 out of every 3
the frozen screen is a GTR2 thing really, but all in all I too sometimes wonder why I bother with it.

Wish you would have stayed Ruskus. I would have enjoyed the challenge. My setup was better in race trim. I had a bit of trouble with the shadows early in quali and decided it would be best if I left and came back with a better frame rate. I dropped the reflection effects and shadows a bit. It worked well.

I couldn't find the lights at the start. Were they above me? I used the clock in the hud. Fortunately, nobody got past going tinto turn 1. I built up a nice gap in 4 laps and then just drove the gap and around the occasional car stopped in the middle of the track on the racing line. It really is difficult racing around here. Like others said earlier, racing shouldn't really go on here any longer. The F1 guys say Donnington isn't up to snuff. They should look at this place a little more carefully. Well, it really isn't about racing in F1 anyways from Bernie's perspective, but that is another topic.  I think Spanner went in the drink at one point.

Terrible car. It was fine in GTL. What happened to it here?

big time into the chicane and I did Spanner's trick, launched into space landed with
bent car and onlt 4 laps to go, steering well bent,
ehhmm.. well.. ah... that's me just being chicken before the chicane  :scared:
No brake testing or other nasty stuff intended.

Quite like the place because you have to focus all the time. For me very rewarding if I can get all the corners right in 1 lap...
And the Elan.. I guess I am used to scruffy setups because I had no other troubles than the usual ones ...

Oh.. could the leaders please turn their headlights on? I was a bit confused who ran were (car schemes were the same).

Teehee

Of course Alex, didn't mean to infer you were brake testing, just not used to people lifting there, and it caught me out
I could have rammed you up the posterior, or risked a pass, which I did, but hit the spring loaded part of the kerb
I think it must be manufactured in the same factory as that one in the chicane at Oulton

Chortle
Was having a good race until I lost it and MJ ploughed into my car  ::)
i take it you mean when your car bounced off the armco and came back diagonally straight into my path  ;) :o

I enjoy Monaco usually, just found the Elan a little too tetchy for it and too easy to bend the suspension. Perhaps the little Elites or Renault Alpines may have been better  :-\

As the race drew nearer and nearer, so I seemed to get slower and slower.

I managed one effort that was something like my best during practice but my attempt to leap onto the track and get a decent early lap in was thwarted by being beaten onto the circuit by Legzy.

My first few laps, and the crucial third one where I usually seemed to be able to put my best time in, were all spent watching our benevolent race organiser personally trying to widen the whole track for us.  With Legzy in front, and pressure from Ade behind, I came to the conclusion that I was not in the right place for a clean lap.

So I dropped back and completely failed to find a clear piece of tarmac for the whole session.  That is to say a, clear piece of tarmac when I hadn’t already made a complete Horlicks of the lap.

In the race I made a good start and had the opportunity to poke my nose between the two cars on the row in front but thought better of it.

I think that I was about fifth and had Legzy all over the back of me for a couple of laps.  He then discovered that I was a bit slow at Casino and his efforts not to hit me were rewarded by a meeting with the Armco and a loss of the place to Paulo.  Many thanks.

It also put that pair far enough behind me and busy enough with each other for me not to have to worry about who was in my mirrors.

I then spent the rest of the race in the ideal position, as far as Monaco is concerned, of nobody in front of me and nobody behind.  Perfect.

I was able to avoid the barriers for the whole race and at the end found myself fourth.

I’ve never been a big fan of Monaco, it’s just one of those things that has to be endured every now and then.

Congratulations to Mike, API and Ade.  Guess you didn’t hit the wall either.

Hmmm, I've never been a fan of Monaco but enjoy driving the Elans so decided to have a go.....

I was nowhere near the pace of the front runners, and decided my plan was to take it steady and not make any silly mistakes, which I did but didn't lead to a very exciting race. I had a few scraps with Tibs early on, but that was all.

I only made one mistake, a spin in Rascasse putting me tight against the barriers, I had to reverse out a little but got clipped by the lapping Ade or API. Sorry guys for getting in your way....  :(

Yeah, I'd normally stick to the slow stuff at this kind of track, but usually at least a couple of people ask for "something faster". I reckoned the Elan was about the quickest car that was basically still designed to turn corners... (i.e. not heavy metal)

For me, it was a nice challenge. But we've certainly done Monaco about 3 times in 2 years here now.... next ;)

I'm always a bit off pace but in Monaco it's even worse.
Practiced a few times this week but all I could do was a 1.58 while others were doing 1.48's already.
Because it is such a tight track I was not sure if it was wise to start here but decided to give it a go.

Wrecked my suspension twice and repaired it twice with a pitstop . But still had fun and even made it to the finish.
Oke, I was lapped 4 times but at least I made it  ;D

See you next week...

Fought tooth & nail with PR from start to half way (when I forgot to brake for t1 ::)), but we'd traded placed about 5 times already & it was just truly great stuff. Move over Mansell & Sena ;D

It was one of those epic battles. I believe we've achieved a new world record, 11 laps fighting at Monaco,
swapping places and we didn't touch each other once. Nice stuff mate.  :thumbup1:

Together with Nordscheliefe, I really don't like Monaco. I rather enjoy a really race in a circuit where cars can fight without walls and where we aren't doing rally stages for several kilometers without seeing another car, usually after half of the field quit because an excess driving that puts your car knock out.(or I would race Colin Mcrae or Richard Burns games).  ::)
But this is my personal taste and I agree in doing once a year....maybe once in 5 years... ;D
one race of this kind, for the sake of the difference.
Once again thanks to Legzy and Toni for the hard work, trying to please everybody and giving us so many good times.  :winkiss:

I was so frustrated at the quali session that I even thought to change to Need4speed or Mario Kart.

Anyway, with some help from the lads, I made a completely crazy setup (against all physics and inertia rules) and I even managed to qualified at 9th (well, after Jeff quit). What was amazing was that with the fuel added to race specs, the car felt better than before, as Mike's feelings aswell.

The race itself worth for the duel with Legzy who was unlucky and lost contact with me.
Excited to be in 5th, I began a chase to Clive but each time I was shortning the gap, Dick Dastarly and Mutley always pulled a wall against my car and I lose again the 2 seconds.  :hammer:

Totally happy with the final result then.

Congrats to Mike and podium, to Clive's consistent driving and well done to all finishers.

Hats off to Sandor that had pit, lost a few laps but continued untill the end.

Cheers
