Title: UKGTL Season 10 Great German Touring Challenge - Lausitz (GP) - Jul 5
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 03, 2010, 04:38:01 PM +0100
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night ;)).

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=257;theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

If you intend to race please download both skinpacks and install the BMW 320i even if you don't intend to drive it.

Judging by the current TV advert, it looks like the Top Gear boys are at this circuit on Sunday night.

All planned and co-ordinated of course

Hmm won't be rushing back to this track in a hurry. If you got the braking points wrong you could lose a lot of time on those intricate tight corners. My setup wasn't as good as I had thought and by lap 15 my RH front tyre was right on the limit. Also pitted with only 0.4 litres left in the tank, phew!
Still it was an eventfull night especialy De Martini's spectacular crash when he clipped the turn 1 barrier.
Bill you were really on the pace tonight and I had no chance of catching you after the pitstops, well done mate.

Goldtop was with an astonishing pace last night.
A good start allowed me to get the 1st position and I was there untill I've got a 13 seconds freeze,
which made me lost 2 positions. I would like to know what you guys saw when I had it (Goldtop and ADE),
because when my PC resumed I was in the very same place on track, very odd! Maybe Dick Dastarly and Mutley had something to do with it.  ;D

Anyway, my front right tire wear was in 42  :o when I went to pits, by then I was putting my left foot on the tarmac to help the car to turn better.  8)

Very interesting track and congratulations to Goldtop pace and to ADE's podium.
Well done everybody.

Cheers

A new track for me and fortunately I was able to spend time yesterday learning it and developing my setup. Was still surprised to be so far ahead in pracci and quali  :o

The 320 is tricky to get off the line quickly and safely, so I was prepared to lose places and ran full fuel to be flexible in race. Sure enough Paulo had me into T1. He was very quick down the straights and I was able to close him down in the corners, but I couldn't see any obvious places to pass. Ade was also keeping in touch and looked as though he would close up when............. ???

Don't know what happened to you Paulo, but I drove straight through your frozen CSL  :o  I thought you'd discoed like last week and that my voodoo was again working  ;) but you then resurfaced down the pack. Very bad luck anyway.

From then on it was a steady drive to the line.

Congrats to rest of pody and all.

Made a bit of a mess of this one...
AN incident on 1st lap or so, where Phil spun or was pushed, not sure quite what, so I stopped and waited
anyway. then fell off somewhere, regained the track when two were hurtling past and spun into the wall trying to
keep half on the grass, took damage but carried on, took 162 sec stop to fix everything, but I may have
inadvertantly knocked the tyre change arrow keys, and the guys only changed the fronts  :o
Car became gradually more and more undrivable, and after my umpteenth spin in T1 just as Goldy was about to come round the corner I quit for safety.

Thanks Tony.  Yes I managed to sort out my spin problem from last race - altered the brake bias a couple of % and all was well.  I found my fastest laps were when I braked early and concentrated on hitting those kerbs getting power on asap.  I love the 320 it's a lovely steer on the throttle job and accelerate out of the bends, just the way I like it.  I was surprised you didn't appreciably catch me after the pit stop like you normally do, I was able to respond with a good lap when necessary and was only a few tenths below my PB with a load of fuel on board.  Towards the end I was confident enough to lift to ensure no mistakes, as I knew by keeping to the line you wouldn't get by and on the last series of curves to the last straight I had far better "drive" than you had so I could beat you to the line.  Whoops wrong, they had similar Capris  ::)  :o - it was Pelle but luckily I still had better drive through that section.

Had a few good laps before the pit stops racing with demartini he managed to get by but was able to contest the slower section with more drive out of the corners and retake him.  Tony and demartini pitted a lap before me and I got out before demartini but chickened out of contesting the corner with the green drum, as my tyres would have been cooler than his I didn't want to throw everthing away hitting that drum and killing my car.

Had a few other amusing situations, lifted to let PR by, he twitched and I had to passed him foot to the floor (never lift with BM in a turn the back will always pass the front) then lift again for the next curve and keeping well back so I didn't hit him under braking.  Ade had a torrid race at times with spins in practice, qualifying and the race.  I think I was a jinx he only had to pass me to go and spin - luckily I avoided him and he got by alright the second time or I was far enough back to lift and let him rejoin.

Thanks Tony and colleagues for an enjoyable nights racing.
